There were a few fireworks, but the debate was mostly civil. 第一個是「火上加油」,英文說法 可直譯為 add fuel to the fire,在英式英文中也可以說 add fuel to the flames,兩者都是指「讓狀況更加惡化、變得更 糟」。例如:The media have added fuel to the fire, and the public is extremely angry.

You’re playing with fire if you lie to your wife.(如 果你對太太說謊,你就是在玩火自焚。) 「搧火」可以讓火燃燒得更強烈,這時英文為 fan a fire,但若是說 fan the fires (英式英語中用 fan the flames)呢?

Big Ben Is Back!

Just the Fax: The History and Modern Use of the Fax Machine

In Celebration of Fireworks

A Deep Dive into Seahorses

Everyone wants to do something good for the environment, but the trouble is knowing where to start. Luckily, there are some easy ways to have a greener lifestyle that anyone can try. To start with, waste less. It’s easy to do—you just need to make small changes in your daily life. For example, at home, you can turn off lights and unplug appliances when you do not need them.
