H

e oído que Málaga lo tiene todo; cultura, historia, sofisticación, buena comida, excelentes comercios y gente amable. Aunque todavía relativamente desconocida en comparación con otras zonas a lo largo y ancho de la Costa del Sol. Sin embargo, esto puede cambiar ya que el Ayuntamiento de Málaga ha presentado una propuesta a la Unión Europea para que la ciudad sea proclamada Capital Cultural Europea, para el año 2016. Esta declaración, por sí sola, ha impulsado el perfil de la ciudad de Málaga; lo que ha atraído a visitantes de muy lejos, y con razón.

Así cómo, el respeto y la admiración por el gran Picasso, con la apertura del tan aclamado Museo Picasso en el año 2003 y el hermoso y restaurado lugar de nacimiento del artista, encontramos también importante a destacar la imponente Catedral Barroca, el hotel El Parador y la fortaleza Alcazaba. Comúnmente conocida como “La Manquita”, como si fuera por la ausencia de uno de sus miembros, pero refiriéndose a su aspecto asimétrico dada la ausencia de su campanario del este, la Catedral Barroca genera tumultos por si sola. A su vez, y asentado en lo alto de una colina sobre la ciudad, el Hotel El Parador es también un fabuloso lugar que merece una visita. have heard it said that Málaga has it all, culture, history, sophistication, good food, great shops and friendly people. Yet it is still relatively undiscovered in comparison to other costal areas along the Costa del Sol. However, this perhaps is set to change since Málaga City Council decided to present a bid to the European Union requesting it be given the title of European Culture Capital in the year 2016. This statement alone has raised the profile of Málaga City and visitors are now coming from far and wide, and with good reason.

As well as homage to the great Picasso with the opening of the already well acclaimed Picasso Museum back in 2003 and the beautifully refurbished birthplace of the artist, there is the imposing Baroque Cathedral, The Parador hotel and u OCIO axarquía

antaño fue un castillo morisco. Se trata de un maravilloso lugar donde poder pasar la noche o disfrutar de una larga comida contemplando el privilegiado entorno, así cómo sus vistas panorámicas sobre la ciudad de Málaga, el puerto y el mar.

Aunque hubo mucha destrucción en Málaga durante la Guerra Civil, quedan aún abundantes muestras de la ocupación morisca y, la fortaleza de Alcazaba es un gran ejemplo de ello; data del año 1065 y aporta un muy interesante museo arqueológico.

Málaga no es tan sólo un lugar perfecto donde explorar monumentos históricos y dejarse envolver por el ambiente de sus pequeñas calles y plazas que alimentan la cultura del café, sino que además nos deleita con una exquisita variedad de tiendas y centros comerciales; haciendo de Málaga un destino perfectamente justificado, sean cuales sean sus motivos e intereses.

La calle principal a la cual dirigirnos en el centro, la Alameda, corre perpendicular a la impresionante avenida sembrada de árboles, la cual nace en la Plaza Marina, cerca del puerto. La calle Marqués de Larios (a menudo conocida por “Larios”) fue hecha peatonal en el año 2002, y el resultado ha sido una tumultuosa zona “chic”, con muchos locales, tiendas de diseñadores y bares y cafeterías estilosas, todo ello rodeado de hermosos edificios restaurados. Al final de la calle Larios encontramos la plaza principal, la Plaza de la Constitución, la cual es centro de atención a lo largo de todo el año, ya que alberga innumerables eventos culturales, religiosos y tradicionales. Por ejemplo, durante la Semana Santa, la ciudad de Málaga es tomada por increíbles procesiones religiosas, donde la plaza queda abarrotada de hileras de asientos para que los espectadores disfruten de las festividades.

La plaza principal situada al final de la calle Larios, en su lado norte, constituye la entrada del Hotel Larios de cinco estrellas; donde figuran el malagueño Antonio Banderas y su mujer Melanie Griffiths de entre su lista de celebridades. Existe un muy sofisticado bar de cocktail en la sexta planta del Hotel Larios, desde la cual se pueden apreciar las impresionantes vistas sobre la Catedral; especialmente espectaculares durante las noches inundadas de luz y color. Así cómo cocktails y otras bebidas, el bar ofrece aperitivos y comidas, en un entorno en el cual a menudo hay música en directo.

Es un escenario mágico en cualquier momento del año, aunque especialmente en una agradable tarde de verano. Una vez fuera de la calle Larios, en el tumulto de pequeñas calles encontrará interesantes bares de tapas, restaurantes, teterías de estilo marroquí, así cómo el agitado Mercado Central de Atarazanas.

Reconocerá sin sorpresa alguna que en Málaga no existe la escasez de lugares en los que comer y beber. La diversidad de las gastronomías internacionales de alrededor del mundo se encuentran una junto a la otra, desde el alto nivel de los restaurantes galardonados con estrellas Michelín hasta los bares de tapas más humildes. Tómese un refresco, un aperitivo, una comida o tan solo un café y observe a las gentes de Málaga en sus quehaceres.

En fin, Málaga tiene mucho que ofrecer a sus visitantes y residentes, no debe perdérsela. Desde el delicioso pescadito frito hasta el flamenco en directo, la ciudad es un reflejo intrínsico de la Andalucía auténtica; en parte, por el hecho de que no está incluida aún en los circuitos y rutas de viaje. Como tal, la ciudad resta impasible por la exuberancia turística de los alrededores.

the Alcazaba fortress to shout about. Popularly known as ‘La Manquita’ (One Armed Woman), referring to its rather lopsided appearance due to the missing east bell tower, the Baroque Cathedral draws a crowd all on it’s own. The Parador Hotel that sits high on the hill above the city is another fabulous location worthy of a visit in it’s own right. The Parador hotel is also of great historic importance as it was once a Moorish castle. It is a wonderful place to either stay the night or have a long lunch enjoying the privileged surroundings and panoramic views over Málaga city and out across the port to sea.

Although there was much destruction in Málaga during the time of the Spanish Civil War, there is still plenty of proof of the Moorish occupation and the Alcazaba fortress is a fine example of this, dating back to 1065 and features a very interesting archaeological museum.

Málaga is not only a perfect place to explore historical monuments but the atmospheric little streets and squares support a very busy café culture which, combined with a truly wonderful selection of boutique shops and large commercial shopping centres, makes Málaga a justified destination for visitors whatever their purpose or interests.

The main street to head for in the centre runs perpendicular to the stunning tree lined avenue, the Alameda, and starts at the Plaza Marina, near the port. Calle Marqués de Larios (often simply referred to as ‘Larios’) was made pedestrian in 2002 and the result is a busy chic area with many boutiques, designer shops and classy cafes, all surrounded by beautifully restored buildings.

At the top of Larios is the main square, Plaza de la Constitución, which is centre of attention throughout the year when cultural, traditional and religious events are being celebrated. During Semana Santa for example, Málaga is taken over by incredible religion processions and the square is decked out with tiers of seats for spectators to enjoy the festivities.

The main square at the north end of Larios is the entrance to the five star Larios Hotel, whose celebrity visitors include big names such as Málaga born Antonio Banderas and wife Melanie Griffiths. There is a very sophisticated cocktail bar on the six floor of the Larios Hotel, from which there are stunning views across to the top of the Cathedral – especially spectacular at night when it is floodlite. As well as cocktails and other drinks, the bar has food and snacks and there is often live music on. It is a magical venue at any time of year but especially on a balmy summers evening.

Off Calle Larios, in the melee of tiny streets you will find interesting tapas bars, restaurants, teterías (Moorish tearooms) and also the bustling main fresh food market, Mercado Central de Atarazanas.

It will come as no surprise that in Málaga there is no shortage of places to eat and drink. From top notch, Michelin rated restaurants to the most humble tapas bar, international cuisines from all around the world sit side by side. Stop for a drink, a snack, a meal or just a cup of coffee and watch the people of Málaga go about their business.

In short, Málaga has a lot to offer visitors and residents alike and should not be missed. From the delicious fried fish to live flamenco, the city is an intrinsic reflection of the real Andalucia due, in part, to the very fact that it is not yet on the coach tour circuit. As such, the city has remained untainted by the surrounding tourism boom.

How long it will remain this way is impossible to say, so I would n visit as soon as you can.

Mi empresa espera que la demanda de calidad continúe, porque los inversores buscan rendimientos sólidos en condiciones económicas adversas. e interviewed Simon Lawson, partner of a leading London based property investment group whose company analyses the worldwide property market for their private clients.

Simon told us that “on a risk-reward formula, certain areas in Europe – specifically Spain and to a degree Germany - remain at the forefront of the continent’s future”. He continued to say that “the European property market is creating some interesting dilemmas for investors”. He said “my company expect the demand for quality to continue as investors look for solid returns in difficult economic conditions. However, as prospects decline generally in the core Western European markets, Simon explained that “some investors want to consider less mature markets such as Moscow for example where on paper, prospects are stronger, albeit at a higher risk, however”, he continued, “it is this risk which will actually keep many investors out of locations like Moscow and interested in Spain and Germany where the risks are lower but the rewards are still high, even if a longer term investment is required, given todays market conditions”.

Simon suggested that his research into the Central European markets highlighted that total returns and rental growth prospects do not tell a complete story. His research includes analysis of liquidity, currency risk, transparency and volatility of the sector to establish a more thorough picture of the market. Simon explained that “with any investment, the potential reward must be balanced with the risks and under our analysis, Spain dominates the list by a very long way”.

Simon showed us some of his anylisis data and explained to us that “when looking across all sectors and countries in continental Europe, total returns are expected to remain slow for the remainder of the year before picking up in 2010. This of course could be perceived as bad news for some and certainly the media in general u

pring has finally sprung. The daylight hours are longer, the air is warmer and at last the winter days are behind us once more. It is officially time to bring the inside out and create a wonderful outdoor living space for the whole family to enjoy. Panicking already? Don’t! Living your inside life on the outside is far less complicated than it seems. For once, size doesn’t matter! You can have your own little piece of Heaven even on the smallest of terraces. If you don’t believe me, next time you’re out shopping look at as many window boxes as you can. Even the smallest of areas are just bursting with life. It’s a simple case of working with what you’ve got, and not craving for something else. Whatever space you are working with, before you start there are a few considerations to make.

Firstly, spend time in the area you wish to transform and consider what kind of outside room or space

Natural light will without doubt be the biggest influence you have, so position as they say is everything.

As Spring slowly becomes Summer, light is a stronger influence. Mediterranean life in Spain is all about understanding the natural world. So, when you’re sitting under a vast blue sky and considering what it actually is that makes a place so wonderful, go back to basics. Nature and the great outdoors are never cluttered.

So don’t try to achieve effect, achieve a balance. Budgeting will currently come high on the list of everyone’s priorities.

Be strong willed, and only buy the basics you need. Great design really isn’t expensive, achieving a style that is truly your own (and others will envy) is a gradual process.

y ten en cuenta qué tipo de habitación o espacio exterior quieres conseguir. La luz natural sin duda será el principal factor con la que podrás contar, así que todo lo que tienes que hacer optar por una posición acorde. Como después de la Primavera sigilosamente llega el Verano, la luz es una fuerte influencia. Las carpas son un medio ideal para cubrir todos los ángulos, menos delicadas y más dinámicas que las persianas o sombrillas; pueden crear un techo hábil para tu habitación exterior. Con un trazado cuidadoso y una pequeña planificación, tu lugar elegido puede resultar funcional además de estéticamente agradable. Si se trata de una zona con un tamaño considerable, debería ser posible comer, dormir, relajarse o divertirse en el mismo espacio.

Tratar de llevar el interior al exterior tendrá una mayor importancia. Unos pequeños cambios en las puertas y ventanas que conectan al exterior podrían ser el primer paso en la creación de un buen equilibrio, haciendo las dos áreas más utilizadas y admiradas. Recuerda, alguno de nosotros estará dispuesto a caminar durante más de 60 segundos hacia un nirvana de relax... ¡sin importar lo maravilloso que sea!

La vida mediterránea en España se mueve por la comprensión del mundo natural. Ya estés en el pueblo, la ciudad o el campo, seguirás estando a sólo unos minutos de un espacio natural abierto, que suele ser abundante, con productos alimenticios y resplandeciente de color. Así, cuando te sientas bajo un inmenso cielo azul, y teniendo en cuenta lo que realmente hace que este lugar sea tan maravilloso, retrocedes a los orígenes. La naturaleza y el estupendo exterior nunca están saturados. Así que no trates de alcanzar el efecto, sino el equilibrio. El presupuesto actualmente estará en lo más alto de todas las listas de prioridades. Ten fuerza de voluntad, y compra solo lo básico. The Bhua Luang restaurant is known by all as the Thai Restaurant in Archez (near Competa). After many successful years inland, this fabulous restaurant has now moved to the coast at Torre Del Mar. l caftán es el icono de moda de este año. Su reaparición ha desbancado y relegado al pareo para convertirse en pieza imprescindible del armario de verano. Sólo con mencionar la palabra caftán, esta aún puede evocar recuerdos (para aquellos que son lo suficientemente mayores para recordarlo) del cantante griego Demis Roussos vistiendo un diáfano poncho. To celebrate their second anniversary the proprietors of Aisha, Tracey and Britta, organised an open day at the shop in Trapiche. For the event, Tracey and Britta had arranged for a local lady to be present to offer the art of Henna tattooing, which is a traditional art form practised throughout Morocco for weddings, religious events and all kinds of festivities. The Henna tattoo is an intricate drawing on the skin, usually in a visible location like the hand or foot. It is not painful at all and is totally non invasive as the dye is simply painted onto the skin creating a fabulous individual design. The result is quite stunning and lasts for 3/4 days of normal wear and tear. Ashlyn was so pleased with her tattoo that she wants one on her ankle for a summer event we are attending. We enjoyed a lovely couple of hours at Aisha and have since returned to pick out a few nice Moroccan items for the home. If you are passing Trapiche at any time I encourage you to call in and browse this friendly shop. You will not be disappointed.

Para celebrar su segundo aniversario, los propietarios de Aisha, Tracey y Britta, celebraron una jornada de puertas abiertas en las instalaciones de El Trapiche. Para este acontecimiento, Tracey y Britta contrataron a una señora marroquí para que estuviese allí ofreciendo tatuajes de henna, un tipo de arte tradicional que se practica por todo Marruecos para bodas, eventos religiosos y todo tipo de festividades. El tatuaje de henna consiste en un complicado dibujo en la piel, normalmente en un lugar visible, como la mano o el pie. No duele en absoluto, y es un método no invasivo, dado que el tinte simplemente se aplica sobre la piel, creando un fabuloso diseño. El resultado es impresionante y dura unos 3 ó 4 días. Ashlyn estaba tan encantada con su tatuaje que quiere uno en su tobillo para un acontecimiento al que vamos a asistir en verano. Pasamos dos horas estupendas en Aisha y hemos regresado para elegir algunos artículos marroquíes para la casa. La Herradura A medida que nos embarcamos en una sucesión de visitas a la Costa Tropical, empezamos con La Herradura. Martina Rowland descubre qué es lo que hace tan popular a esta zona de la Costa Tropical, con sus habitantes, visitantes y turistas.

L

a Herradura alberga una historia realmente exitosa de hoy en día, que une su pasado histórico con las necesidades de la vida moderna, creando así una de las más hermosas regiones en toda la Costa Tropical. La Herradura comenzó a existir como una ciudad satélite de Almuñécar, que existió durante muchos años bajo la sombra de su gran hermana; pero en los últimos tiempos ha crecido hasta llegar a convertirse en un centro vacacional costero con su propia identidad, encanto y sofisticación.

La bahía de La Herradura es considerada una de las más bonitas de entre todas las Bahías de España. La mejor vista de la bahía (este es el enfoque de la fotografía que aparece aquí) se sitúa en el Restaurante El Mirador de Cerro Gordo. Pero existen maravillosas oportunidades fotográficas desde cualquier sitio donde mires, y los municipios de La Herradura con sus viviendas de cal, construidas precariamente sobre las laderas, son el sueño de cualquier fotógrafo.

Situada aproximadamente a 80 Km. tanto del aeropuerto de Málaga como del de Granada, La Herradura tiene una población residente que supera los 30.000 habitantes.

a Herradura is a truly modern day success story joining it’s historical past to the needs of modern day living creating one of the most beautiful regions in the entire Costa Tropical. La Herradura started its existence as a satellite town of Almunecar, existing for many years under the shadow of it’s big sister but in recent times it has grown to become a coastal resort with it’s own identity, charm and sophistication.

The bay of La Herradura is considered to be one of the most beautiful among all the Bays in Spain. My favourite vantage point of the bay (and the location for the lead photo of this feature) is from El Mirador de Cerro Gordo Restaurant. But there are fabulous photographic opportunities everywhere you look and La Herradura, with it’s whitewashed buildings, built precariously on the small mountain slopes, are every photographers dream.

Los visitantes vienen de todos sitios, y con razones para ello. No solo se trata de un fabuloso emplazamiento marítimo; también hay mucho más que ver y que hacer en la zona. Dos de mis favoritos, que llegan tan lejos como todos los destinos turísticos, son el nuevo Jardín Museo del Bonsái en la Avenida de Andalucía, y el acuario de fauna marina recién construido en Plaza Kuwait. Vale la pena visitarlos, si cuentas con algo de tiempo.

Por otro lado, si lo que quieres es practicar deportes acuáticos, la Herradura lo tiene todo, y no solamente para la experimentada natación para niños; también hay actividades para los principiantes. Existen dos lugares principales para los deportes acuáticos, Playa Berengueles y playa de La Herradura. Personalmente prefiero Playa de La Herradura, no solo porque son agradables, comprensivos y serviciales, sino también porque logran hacerme sentir muy cómoda en un ambiente que es muy distinto a mi área de bienestar.

Europe enjoy their leisure time here. The visitors come from far and wide and with good reason.

Not only is it a fabulous seafront location but there is also so much to see and do in the area. Two of my personal favourites, as far as tourist locations go anyway, are the new Jardin Museo del Bonsai on the Avenida de Andalucia (Almunecar) and the newly built sealife aquarium in Plaza Kuwait. These are both worth a visit if you have a little time on your hands.

Alternatively, if it’s watersports you want then La Herradura has it all and not only for the experienced water baby, beginners are well catered for also. There are two main locations for watersports, Playa Berengueles and playa de la Herradura. Personally I prefer Playa de la Herradura, not least of all because they are friendly, understanding and helpful but they manage to make me feel very comfortable in an environment that is a far cry from my comfort zone.

If watersports are a little too energetic for you and you see yourself as more of a lounger then there are various beaches in the area to choose from and again, from a personal point of view, I like Playa de le Herradura, Playa Berengueles and Playa Cantarriján. Playa Berengueles y Playa Cantarriján.

Playa de La Herradura es indiscutiblemente la mejor y más hermosa playa en toda la zona, con una anchura de 2 Km. en la enorme bahía con forma de herradura, que a propósito le da este nombre. La playa tiene arena y guijarros, y hay espacio para todo el mundo; ni en verano llega a estar abarrotada, a pesar del gran número de turistas. Estupendos chiringuitos, restaurantes y tiendas dan al servicio a la playa y, como mencioné anteriormente, hay gran número de deportes acuáticos entre los que elegir.

Berengueles es una pequeña playa junto al puerto deportivo Marina del Este, en la rocosa Punta de la Mona.

Es un área muy popular para deportes acuáticos situados en el puerto deportivo, (añadiría que vale la pena hacerle una visita, especialmente después de la puesta de sol, para disfrutar de un cóctel o una cena con vistas a las estupendas lanchas a motor y yates). Playa Berengueles también tiene arena y guijarros, y tiene buenos chiringuitos y restaurantes que ofrecen la comida típica en las playas españolas.

Playa de Cantarriján se sitúa al oeste de Cerro Gordo, y es la última playa del municipio, además de ser la más aislada.

Hay dos formas de llegar en coche. El acceso original está a la salida de la carretera antigua, que rodea Cerro Gordo, y está bastante bien señalizado. Sin embargo, se acaba de u

Y entonces, una vez que hayas disfrutado de unas compras en el pueblo, los deportes acuáticos en la playa, de tomar el sol, de pasear por el Jardín Museo del Bonsái y el acuario de fauna marina, el café en el bar y la comida en el restaurante, llega la vida nocturna que en La Herradura es la envidia de la Costa Tropical.

La música en vivo es bastante frecuente en muchos de los bares y restaurantes de la ciudad, pueblos, y por toda la costa, extendiéndose por el ambiente nocturno, con una mezcla ecléctica de sonidos tradicionales y modernos. No obstante, se advierte de que normalmente la vida nocturna no arranca hasta las diez de la noche, y en muchos casos continúa hasta la salida del sol. Es entonces cuando puedes empezar a pensar en un café y n un desayuno...y vuelves a salir.

entrance is off the old road that runs around Cerro Gordo and is quite well signposted.

However, a newer entrance leading off the main N340 about 200m from the tunnel has now been opened and is easier to navigate. This large sand and shingle beach has been designated a nudist bathing area, although the western end is normally occupied by conventional sunbathers. There are two good beach bars/ restaurants open throughout the season and you may be pleased to know that a degree of clothing is required in and around the bar and restaurant areas (it must be a health and safety issue I am sure).

And then, once you have enjoyed the shopping in the town, the watersports on the beach, the sunbathing on the beach, the walk around the Bonsai Garden and the sealife aquarium, the coffee in the bar and the lunch at the restaurant, there is the nightlife. The nightlife in La Herradura is the envy of the Costa Tropical. Live music is a regular feature in many of the bars and restaurants filling the night air with an eclectic mix of traditional and modern sounds. Be warned though, most of the nightlife doesn’t start until around 22.00hrs and in many cases will go on until sunrise. Then you can start to think about coffee and breakfast...and away you go again. n

WEALTH TAX CHANGES

L

a modificación de la Ley 19/1991, de 6 de junio, del Impuesto sobre el Patrimonio, realizada el pasado Diciembre ha supuesto la supresión del gravamen derivado de este impuesto. Por tal motivo, se ha procedido a derogar la “Declaración simplificada de los Impuestos sobre el Patrimonio y sobre la Renta de no Residentes”, así como se han aprobado los nuevos modelos de declaración del Impuesto sobre la Renta de No Residentes, que deben utilizarse para declarar las rentas obtenidas. Se han establecido las condiciones generales y el procedimiento para la presentación telemática por Internet de dichas declaraciones y otras normas referentes a la tributación de no residentes.

Hasta ahora, la declaración simplificada de los Impuestos sobre el Patrimonio y sobre la Renta de no Residentes, modelo 214, se utilizaba por los contribuyentes no residentes cuyo patrimonio sometido a gravamen en territorio español estaba constituido exclusivamente por una propiedad, con el fin de efectuar la declaración del Impuesto sobre el Patrimonio correspondiente a la titularidad de la misma y la declaración del Impuesto sobre la Renta de no Residentes por la renta imputada correspondiente a dicha vivienda.

Al eliminarse el gravamen por el Impuesto sobre el Patrimonio, a partir de ahora deberá utilizarse la declaración de la Renta de No Residentes, modelo 210. Ahora bien, considerando que el plazo de declaración del modelo 214, el año natural siguiente, era más amplio que el de la declaración modelo 210 para ese tipo de renta, y que los ingresos realizados utilizando el modelo 214 podían ser objeto de domiciliación, con la finalidad de facilitar el cumplimiento de sus obligaciones tributarias a los contribuyentes, se ha considerado conveniente modificar el plazo de declaración del modelo 210 para las rentas imputadas de bienes inmuebles, de forma que coincida con el del derogado modelo 214, y se ha incluido el modelo 210 dentro de las autoliquidaciones que pueden ser objeto de domiciliación.

Se han establecido las condiciones generales y el procedimiento para la

presentación telemática por Internet de dichas declaraciones y otras normas referentes a la tributación de no residentes, la aprobación de los modelos de declaración, autoliquidación y comunicación de datos, así como establecer la forma, lugar y plazos de su presentación.

Los puntos más importantes de esta nueva regulación, con efectos desde el período impositivo 2008 y siguientes son: 1. Se excluye del ámbito de aplicación del modelo 214 de declaración de “Impuestos sobre el Patrimonio y sobre la Renta de no Residentes”.

2. Las rentas imputadas de los bienes inmuebles situados en territorio español, deberán declararse durante el año natural siguiente a la fecha de devengo.

3. Se incluye el modelo 210 entre los modelos de declaraciones-liquidaciones y autoliquidaciones que pueden ser objeto de domiciliación bancaria.

4. De entre los plazos para realizar la domiciliación bancaria, se elimina el relativo al modelo 214, y se incluye el correspondiente al modelo 210, para la clave de tipo de renta 02, con el siguiente texto: «Modelo 210: Desde el día 1 de enero hasta el 23 de diciembre».

Las presentes modificaciones entraron en vigor el pasado 30 de Diciembre de 2008. No obstante lo anterior, la posibilidad de domiciliación bancaria del modelo 210, entrará en vigor el 1 de julio de 2009.

A MODO DE CONCLUSION: Aunque ha desaparecido el impuesto sobre el patrimonio, si es usted No Residente fiscal y tiene cualquier tipo de bien en España, está obligado a presentar la declaración del Impuesto sobre la Renta de los No Residentes, Modelo 210, como obligación establecida por las Autoridades Fiscales Españolas. Declaración que habrá de presentarse anualmente.

Es recomendable contactar con un abogado o fiscalista que le asista en la preparación y presentación de estas declaraciones para cumplir con sus obligaciones con Hacienda.

he modification on the Law 19/1991 of 6th of June, concerning wealth tax, carried out last December has meant the abolition of the burden derived from this tax. In it’s place is a new simplified wealth tax and non resident income tax.

So far, the simplified wealth tax and non resident income tax was used by non resident taxpayers whose personal assets were only one property, therefore tax was only corresponding to the ownership of the property and any income/profit derived from it.

Because of eliminating wealth tax, form 210 has to be used for the non resident income tax. However, if we take into account that the period for the submission of the 214 form (the following year) was broader than the one on 210 form for that kind of income tax, and the income carried out by using the 214 form could be object of direct billings, in order to make easier the performance of the tax duties to the taxpayers, it is convenient to modify the deadline of the 210 income tax for properties. So this period is the same one as the old 214 form and the 210 form is already included within the voluntary payment of tax that can be placed in your bank account.

The most important points of this new regulation, to be effective from the taxable period 2008 are: 1. It is excluded from the scope of the 214 form about “Wealth Tax and Non Resident Income Tax”.

2. The attributed income from properties placed in Spain, must be declared during the following year of the date of the amount due.

3. The form 210 is included within the Income taxpayment of tax liabilities and payment of tax in your bank account.

The current modifications came into force last 30th of December 2008. Notwithstanding the foregoing, the possibility of a standing order form 210 at your bank, will come into effect1st of July 2009.

BY MEANS OF CONCLUSION: Although the wealth tax has disappeared, if you are non tax resident and you have any assets in Spain, you are obliged to submit the Non Resident Wealth Tax Form 210, as an obligation stated by the Spanish Tax Authorities. This tax declaration must be submitted every year!

It is recommended that you contact a solicitor or tax specialist who may assist you in the preparation and submission of these Tax Returns so you will definitely accomplish with the Treasury.

he Paseo de Larios is the place to spend a few hours in Torre Del Mar. It links the seaside promenade to the church in Avenida de Andalucia. It is pedestrianised to make it safe for families to wander and for children to run free. Parking is easy with the on road spaces and parking areas beachside and the new underground car park next to the church. From the top to the bottom the Paseo de Larios has a fabulous selection of places in which to eat or drink offering everything from ice cream parlours to coffee bars, cocktail bars, and restaurants and there are also a few very nice shops in which to browse.

As you stroll the paseo do be aware that there are several small walkways off of the Paseo which hold a few pleasant surprises with more restaurants, bars and shops. Paseo de Larios really is the heart of Torre Del Mar and any visit to this delightful seaside town would not be complete without a stroll along it’s palm lined avenue. Whether you visit to eat, drink, shop or just to sit and enjoy people watching, each and every establishment will make you feel very welcome. Many would say that this is what Spain does best and if that is true, then I would add that Paseo de Larios does it better than most. ...enjoy.

t has been the talk of the town in Torre Del Mar for many months, the opening of a fabulous new bar restaurant, Trendy’s. Refurbished to the finest detail, the management team were keen to show the invited guests what Trendy’s was all about.

Champagne on arrival, tapas and canapés at every turn, chilled beer on tap and iced gin and tonics at the ready.

The invited guests included many local business people and residents of all ages from Torre Del Mar and further afield. In total some 250 guests were wined, dined and entertained.

I managed to get a few minutes with one of the partners to ask a few questions about the type of establishment Trendy’s is. Mark explained that “the most important factor is that the team have created something different, something new and fresh, something

elegant...trendy in fact”. He continued “The design is very striking and our international kitchen is offering some truly superb cuisine.

Our chefs offer daily fresh meat and fish dishes from our a la carte menu along with a great choice of salads, pastas and stir fry dishes.

We also have an exciting and changing selection of ‘menu del dia’ on a daily basis. Of course we also offer snacks and light bites and indeed our large bar area is ideal for just a drink. Here at Trendy’s we are all about quality but at very reasonable prices”.

As I stood back from the crowd and spent a little time people watching, I found myself thinking that this is quite probably the first of a new breed of bar restaurants for the eastern Costa del Sol. I think Paseo del Larios in Torre del Mar has just become trendy! n

e lleva comentando desde hace meses la apertura de Trendy’s, un nuevo y estupendo bar restaurante en Torre del Mar. Los gerentes de este negocio se han mostrado interesados en explicar a sus invitados en qué consistía Trendy’s, renovado al más fino detalle. Champán a la llegada, tapas y canapés a cada instante, además de heladas cervezas de barril y gin-tonic.

Entre los invitados se encontraban muchos empresarios de la zona, y personas de todas las edades residentes en Torre del Mar y de fuera. En resumen unos 250 invitados brindaron con vino, cenaron y disfrutaron del momento. Traté de pasar unos minutos con uno de los socios para preguntarle qué tipo de establecimiento es Trendy’s. Mark me explicó que el factor más importante es que el equipo ha creado algo diferente, algo nuevo y fresco, algo elegante...realmente Trendy’s. El diseño es muy llamativo y nuestra cocina internacional ofrece unos magníficos platos. Nuestros cocineros ofrecen diariamente platos de carne y pescado frescos en nuestro menú, junto con una gran variedad de ensaladas, pastas y frituras de verduras. También disponemos de una increíble y cambiante selección de menús del día. Por supuesto, también ofrecemos tapas y delicatessen; de hecho, si lo que quiere el cliente es tomar una copa, nuestra amplia zona de barra es ideal. rigiliana is not short of an accolade or two and was voted the ‘prettiest village in Andalucía’ by the Spanish tourism authority. This delightful white washed village is also rich in history. During the 16th Century there were many battles between the Moors and Christians in Andalucia, which culminated with the final expulsion of the Arabs with the battle of the Rock of Frigiliana in 1569. This historical rebellion between the local Moriscos in the village and surrounding area, and a Christian army led from Nerja was a particularly violent battle that is still remembered today. This fascinating story is depicted with twelve ceramic plaques posted on the corners of streets to be found within the village.

Small plazas provide shady seating while the village bars are popular with visitors who come here to taste the locally produced wine. There are also excellent shops selling pottery, ceramics, leather goods, clothing, local produce and so much more.

Frigiliana is best explored by foot so when you arrive do not be tempted to drive into the village, when Frigiliana was created it was done so without the modern day motor car in mind! There are plenty of parking spaces and a large underground car park at the foot of the village. Once on foot you are best suited to explore what many consider to be Frigiliana’s best asset, it’s food, drink and hospitality.

or tanto, para ti, que no eres español pero vives aquí, tenemos la siguiente pregunta: ¿cómo puedes preparar un picnic perfecto? La respuesta es simple, hazlo siguiendo el estilo español. Reúne a un grupo de familiares y amigos, prepara una nevera con unas cervezas, vinos y zumos, llévate la suficiente comida como para alimentar a un regimiento, y dirígete al “Parque Natural” de Nerja. En mi primera visita a esta particular zona de picnic, me quedé impresionado, por no decir más. Después de conducir durante 15 minutos por el parque, desde la entrada a las Cuevas de Nerja (no es necesario un 4x4, pero sí se recomienda), llegamos a la zona de picnic elegida. Un lugar estupendo con muchas mesas y asientos de picnic repartidos alrededor de las zonas de barbacoas, que se pueden utilizar de forma totalmente gratuita, e incluso se cuenta con suministro de leña. Cinco minutos después de llegar, ya teníamos las bebidas abiertas y las aceitunas sobre la mesa; los 76 OCIO axarquía

Estuvimos charlando, riendo y, como se dice en el anuncio de Veuve Clicquot Champagne, habíamos creado una fiesta improvisada. Estoy seguro de que esto suena muy bien pero, dado que estábamos allí para un picnic y no sólo para sentarnos en los asientos de matera dando sorbitos a la copa de vino, tuvimos que pensar en dar de comer a la gente. Con 22 personas a las que alimentar, siempre ayuda mucho si cuentas con un chef de primera clase. Kevin y Alix Robinson, del Restaurante Mirador de Cerro Gordo, estuvieron con nosotros aquel día, y habían cocinado para la ocasión.

o, for anyone who is not Spanish, living here in Spain, here is a question for you, how do you create the perfect picnic? The answer is simple, do it Spanish style. Gather a group of family and friends, pack a few cool boxes with beers, wines and juice, take along enough food to feed a small army and head off to the ‘Parque Natural’ in Nerja. This was to be my first visit to this particular picnic area and I was impressed to say the very least. After a 15 minute drive through the park, from the entrance to Nerja Caves, (4 x 4 not needed but recommended) we arrived at the designated picnic area. A fabulous location with an abundance of picnic tables and seating dotted around the central barbecue areas, which are free to use and even have a supply of chopped wood available for your use. Within 5 minutes of arriving we had the drinks open, olives on the table, children playing on the swings, dogs trying to play with children playing on the swings and Gipsy Kings music filling the

spring air. We were chatting, laughing and as the Veuve Clicquot Champagne advertisement says, we had created an instant party.

Now this all sounds great so far I am sure but as we were there for a picnic lunch and not just a pleasant sit in the woods sipping wine, thoughts needed to turn to feeding our crew. With 22 people to feed it always helps a great deal if you have a first class chef as one of your party. Kevin and Alix Robinson of the Restaurant Mirador de Cerro Gordo were with us on this day and they had prepared all the food for us. Chatting to Kevin before the day he told me “the key to a good picnic barbecue is proper preparation. Not only marinating the meats but also thinking about packing and transporting the food to your chosen location, in this case the Parque Natural”. He continued “ We all know that we need to keep our food stuffs cool at all times, so I pop my well covered items into the freezer for half an hour or so before heading off out to the barbecue, just to take the temperature u OCIO axarquía

elegido, en este caso el Parque Natural.” Él continuó: “todos sabemos lo que necesitamos hacer para mantener nuestra comida fresca a todas horas, así que, antes de llevarla a la barbacoa, la introduzco, bien tapada, en el congelador durante una media hora; con ello lo único que consigo es que se mantenga algo más fría que en la nevera. Procura tener siempre cada alimento bien tapado, hasta que vayas ponerlo en la parrilla, y nunca lo dejes en el exterior bajo los rayos del sol. Pasa un poco de aceite por la parrilla a medida que el fuego se aviva; esto te ayudará a evitar que se adhieran los alimentos. Normalmente utilizo pinchos de madera, que se deben poner en remojo en un recipiente con agua de media a una hora; de lo contrario arderán antes de que se haga la comida. No coloques la carne muy junta, dado que se cocinará más uniformemente si tiene un poco de espacio. Normalmente me sirvo de hierbas aromáticas de mi jardín (romero o hierba de limón) que dan una fragancia inmejorable, especialmente al pescado; pero ten cuidado porque algunas plantas son tóxicas y por tanto muy peligrosas. Escurre con un colador, sobre una bandeja, el líquido del adobo porque este puede provocar que las llamas adquieran más intensidad y terminen por quemar la carne. Siempre tengo preparada una botella dosificadora para controlar las llamas, y otra llena de cerveza para ayudar a 78 OCIO axarquía

mantener la comida jugosa, llena de sabor, ¡y también tener a los chicos contentos! Si es posible, limpia la barbacoa justo después de utilizarla (normalmente al día siguiente), y pasa por la parrilla un poco de aceite vegetal”.

Puede resultar complicado complacer a los niños en estos eventos, más que nada porque no se quedarán sentados lo suficiente como para que coman como es debido. Para asegurarte de que comen bien y disfrutan además de estas celebraciones tanto como los adultos, opta por las hamburguesas caseras en vez las que se venden en las tiendas. Kevin me afirma que son fáciles de preparar, rápidas de cocinar, y que garantizan las tripitas llenas. Kevin me ha facilitado una deliciosa receta de hamburguesas caseras que puedo enviarte (mira la dirección de e-mail). O mejor, si quisieras tener alguna receta de alguno de estos platos que Kevin cocinó para nuestro día, ¿por qué no te pasas por el Mirador de Cerro Gordo para tomar un café, beber algo, tapear, comer, o cenar, y de paso le pides a Alix o Kevin algunos detalles?; ellos estarán encantados de compartir esta información contigo. Sobra decir que nuestra tarde fue todo un éxito. Entiendo por qué el picnic al estilo español es tan popular. La próxima vez que quiera probar una paella en la playa...será al estilo español, ¡por supuesto! n

down just a little bit further than the fridge will. Always keep each item well covered until it’s to go onto the grill and don’t leave it out in the sun light. Brushing a little oil onto the grill as the fire is heating up will help to stop things sticking to it. Mostly I use wooden skewers Which need to be soaked in water for thirty minutes to an hour or else they will burn well before the food can cook. Don’t pack the meat too tightly either as it will cook more evenly with a little space. I often use twigs from my herb garden such as Rosemary or Lemon grass which pass on such a real fragrance, particularly fish but be really careful as some plants are poisonous and so very dangerous. Drain off excess marinade from meat on a wire rack over a tray as too much can cause the flames to flare up and burn the food. I always have a squirty bottle ready to dampen down flames and another filled with beer to help keep food moist, full of flavour and it keeps the boys happy too! Clean the barbecue up as soon after using as is possible (usually the next day) and wipe the grill with a little vegetable oil.”

Children can be difficult to cater for at these events, not least of all because they won’t sit still long enough to eat anything properly.

To make sure they eat well and enjoy the festivities as much as the adult members, try homemade burgers. Kevin tells me they are

simple to prepare, quick to cook and guarantee full tummies for the young ones. Kevin has given me a delicious recipe for homemade burgers which I am able to email to you (see email address). Or better still, if you would like recipes for any of the dishes Kevin created for our day, why not call in to the Mirador de Cerro Gordo for a coffee, drink, snack, lunch or dinner and ask Alix or Kevin for some details, they will be only too pleased to share the information with you.

Needless to say our afternoon was a fantastic success. Great company, great food and a great location, all the ingredients needed. I can see why this Spanish style picnic is so popular. Next time I want to try a paella on the beach...Spanish style, naturally! n
