New Managing Director for Damen Shipyards Singapore Mr Maarten Jongen has officially been appointed Managing Director of Damen Shipyards Singapore (DSSi) from March 2012. In his new role Mr Jongen will focus on marketing, services and further improving efficiency at the yard that has been building (aluminium) Damen vessels since 2000. DSSi has been part of the Damen Shipyards Group since 2000. Mr Jongen (35) originally joined Damen in 2002 straight from Delft University of Technology (The Netherlands) where he studied Naval Architecture and Marine Technology. He has several years of experience in the Asian market through his last position, since 2007, as Regional Sales Manager Asia Pacific.
Efficiency Mr Jongen’s major aim is to make Damen Shipyards Singapore into an even more efficient production yard, even though the South East Asian yard already enjoys a strong reputation for efficiency. “The cost price should be as low as possible, while maintaining Damen’s proven quality of course,” he says. “The construction of larger series of vessels enables us to evaluate and improve our production processes in a better way compared to when we are building one-offs. Our emphasis on environmentally friendly production and safety is added to this and will improve the level both our efficiency and quality.”
Local sourcing The shipyard will also start sourcing and purchasing locally more than it has done in the past. In addition, DSSi will be carrying out detailed engineering of vessels, so it can customise and tailor-make standard built vessels to specific client requests.
Portfolio DSSi specialises in building
aluminium vessels of up to 55 m, repairs and conversions. Additionally, the yard offers maintenance for aluminium and Glass Reinforced Polyester (GRP) vessels. It has a broad ranging product portfolio including Fast Ferries, water taxis, Fast Crew Suppliers, catamarans, high-speed craft, workboats and patrol vessels. If required DSSi can subcontract steel hulled vessels and do the outfitting and commissioning in
Damen Group”, adds Mr Jongen. The shipyard has two covered building halls, already has the ISO9001 certificate and it is presently working on ISO14001 and Occupational Health and Safety (OHSAS) 18001 program. Recently the yard has reduced its environmental footprint by installing low energy lighting, which is 80% more economical.
Expanding team With a 280-strong staff (including subcontractors), DSSi has a capacity of around 10-15 vessels a year. Recently, Ms Christine Yap joined DSSi as dedicated Singapore Sales Manager. She will be liaising with clients in Singapore and in addition handle sales for non-Singapore build products, such as offshore vessels and tugs.

Singapore as has been the case for several 50m crew boats. Currently, a monohull ferry for the local Singapore market is being designed in close cooperation with the Damen head office in The Netherlands. “This low-cost ferry is specifically designed for the local market and complies with latest regulations on safety. Important improvements in comfort and fuel economy are to be expected by using the latest design developments within the
Services hub Like Damen Shipyards Cape Town and other strategic Damen shipyards around the world, Singapore is also a Damen Services hub. As well as having a considerable spare parts store, the Services portfolio will also be expanding its after-sales support from Singapore, with the yard looking to employ local field engineers to deliver high quality maintenance for the entire lifecycle of the vessel.
RESERVOIR GROUP APPOINTS SIMON HOWES TO LEAD DATA MANAGEMENT BUSINESS International oilfield services company, Reservoir Group, today announces the appointment of Simon Howes to head up Interica, the Group’s all-in-one data management business. A former academic researcher at the University of Cambridge, Mr Howes spent more than a decade developing inhouse software and hardware designed to automate and drive the research process. This was followed by several product marketing roles across the high technology industry, before a move to the microscopy division of Carl Zeiss, a market leader in the fields of optics and precision engineering. In this role, Mr Howes successfully launched several unique solutions for the mining industry, most notably working in partnership with an oil and gas company to develop a ruggedized scanning electron microscope, designed to enable the automated rapid on-site analysis of drill cuttings, thereby revolutionising the speed and accuracy of wellsite mudlogging. Following the product’s launch, Mr Howes was invited to head up Reservoir Group’s data management business. Mr Howes said: “As managing director, my primary aim is to grow Interica into a consolidated solutions’ provider to both the oil and gas industry and associated sectors, such as mining and renewable energy.
photo: Damen Shipyarts
“My combined background in product marketing and market analysis means I will be able to lead Interica in the delivery of bespoke customer or market specific software solutions, with speed and accuracy. Reservoir Group is looking to expand its capabilities in the data management arena and I am delighted to have been given the chance to help the
company realise its goal of creating an end-to-end service offering.” A first for the oil and gas industry, the consolidated data management solution will allow companies to manage all wells information, from raw and stacked seismic data to the long-term storage of crucial files such as well logs and wellbore diagrams, vital for the long-term protection of a business. “Ultimately, Interica enables energy companies to generate and control seismic data, protect this data at each decision gate – from drilling and coring to analysis, well monitoring and wellbore intervention – and finally, protect each company’s reservoir estimation calculations and associated data,” Mr Howes added. “This is a unique offering, not only to upstream oil and gas businesses, but almost certainly to any data-centric industry. Several of our software products are unique within the energy sector and because they are vendor independent and hardware adaptable, provide all current and prospective customers with a total solution, irrespective of how they choose to process and store their valuable data. “Interica will spend considerable time ensuring that we fully understand all of the markets in which we operate, enabling us to provide adaptable solutions designed to offer immediate support to our customers, with the flexibility to adapt to ongoing and changing requirements.”

Fendercare Marine officially opens its great Yarmouth offshore wind turbine support base Norfolk-based Fendercare Marine will be hosting a launch event to officially open its Great Yarmouth offshore wind turbine support base. The company’s new facility on the Old Bure Marine site in Cobholm follows on from the success of its first base in Lyness, Orkney and will provide an extensive range of support services & equipment to the expanding offshore wind industry. The Great Yarmouth site, which cost in excess of £1million, includes a large set down and storage area as well as quay side frontage and office facilities. The base will be officially opened by the MP for Great Yarmouth, Brandon Lewis, and invited guests will also listen to talks by Mark Goodall, Board Member of New Anglia Local Enterprise Partnership and John Best, Head of Sustainable Energy, Fendercare Marine. Following the official opening, the guests will be treated to a “loop and swoop” flypast by Norfolk based formation display team, Wildcat Aerobatics and a rescue demonstration by the local RNLI vessel. This will be followed by lunch with an opportunity to network and view some of the products and services Fendercare Marine offer.
The new base will provide mobilisation and de-mobilisation facilities, maintenance and repair facilities with land storage, fully equipped project management offices and bunkering services. It is intended that the new Fendercare Marine base will provide a hub for all types of offshore activity in the Southern North Sea. The base has mooring facilities for up to three offshore support craft at a time, with additional capacity for a further five vessels on land. John Best, Fendercare Marine Head of Sustainable Energy, said ““I am very excited by the opportunity to work with other businesses in the local supply chain to ensure that we provide a full and comprehensive offer to our customers.” Fendercare Marine - a member of leading marine service provider James Fisher & Sons Plc - has seen considerable growth and expansion over the last few years and is expected to turnover in excess of £160m this year. It has ambitious targets to treble this over the next four
years and with a diverse and expanding portfolio of equipment and services operating in the marine and offshore industries worldwide, this target does not look unrealistic. Fendercare Marine Managing Director Eric Plane said: “This base is part of Fendercare’s overall strategy to becoming more involved in the energy industry worldwide, both in terms of the oil and gas industries as well as renewables. The facility will enable us to do what we do best: provide an excellent reliable service and it will act as a conduit to bring solutions from other James Fisher group companies to the Southern North Sea area.” “We are very excited by this opportunity to expand our local facilities and provide a very much needed service to the area” added Mr Plane. “We will be using this platform to evaluate further strategic locations around the country where additional support bases may be required in future.” The launch event is strictly invitation only and numbers are limited – for further details and to be placed on the invitation list, email Josie Scotchmer, Marketing Executive at josephine. scotchmer@fendercare.com

Grote ankerkooien voor Zweeds offshore
windmolenpark
WINDFORCE 2012 – Event deemed a great success 6,000 visitors were welcomed to Germany’s first trade fair for the offshore wind industry and WAB’s eighth offshore conference from 26 to 29 June 2012 in Bremen “Our expectations were more than met”, said Jens Eckhoff, managing director of the Offshore Wind Messe- und Veranstaltungs GmbH, after four successful days of the WINDFORCE 2012 fair. The organiser of Germany’s first trade show for the offshore wind industry was very pleased with the positive response he garnered from exhibitors and visitors alike. “Many exhibitors confirmed again and again how successful the trade fair was both in terms of its high quality and their business talks at stands. That makes us very happy and at the same time spurs us on for the coming years”, said Mr Eckhoff. WAB’s eighth offshore conference took place at the same time in Bremen. Ronny Meyer, managing director of Wind Energy Agency WAB, said: “Our conference has become a tradition in the industry in the past eight years and is still enjoying growing interest. Combining it with the trade fair
was another successful step we took. We are pleased with this cooperative effort and are looking forward to 2014 when we will join forces again in Bremen”. The organisers counted altogether 4,600 visitors to Halls 4 and 5 at the Bremen Fair between 26 and 28 June. When WINDFORCE 2012 opened the fair to the public on 29 June, nearly 1,400 visitors filled the halls, there to find out more about the future of offshore wind energy, career opportunities and vocational training, and to use this chance to talk to businesses in the industry. At the Job & Career Market in Hall 4, experts were there that day to answer questions and provide information to the public in brief talks about career choices in the offshore industry. WINDFORCE 2012 laid the groundwork for success in coming years, and organisers Ronny Meyer and Jens Eckhoff are looking forward to upcoming events. Next year the ninth WAB offshore conference will be back in Bremerhaven. In 2014, WINDFORCE will return to Bremen for the second WINDFORCE trade fair and the
9
tenth WAB conference. Several businesses have already booked a stand for the 2014 show. WINDFORCE 2012 took place in Bremen for the first time from 26 to 29 June 2012. The event was a continuation of the seasoned WINDFORCE – DIRECTION OFFSHORE industry conference. This year it combined Germany’s first offshore wind energy trade fair (26 – 29 June 2012) with the nation’s most important offshore conference (26 – 28 June 2012). In future, WINDFORCE will alternate each year between Bremen and Bremerhaven, with the trade fair being a feature of the event when it is held in Bremen. The dates for WINDFORCE until 2016: 4 – 6 June 2013 Conference in Bremerhaven 17 – 20 June 2014 Trade fair and conference in Bremen 9 – 11 June 2015 Conference in Bremerhaven 7 – 10 June 2016 Trade fair and conference in Bremen The organisers are the Wind Energy Agency WAB and the Offshore Wind Messe- und Veranstaltungs GmbH.
Shell signs new Upstream deals with CNOOC and CNPC Shell announces today that it has signed two offshore oil and gas Production Sharing Contracts (PSCs) with CNOOC, and a PSC amendment with CNPC for a new development phase for the Changbei gas field in China. Shell has also entered an agreement with CNOOC for its participation in two Shell exploration blocks offshore Gabon, West Africa. The two offshore oil and gas PSCs with CNOOC are for blocks 62/02 and 62/17 in the Yinggehai Basin. Shell, as operator, will apply advanced seismic acquisition and processing technologies to conduct 3D seismic data surveys in the Yinggehai blocks. Shell will cover the costs for the acquisition of seismic data and will use advanced drilling technologies to drill exploration wells during the exploration phase. Shell will hold a 100% working interest during the exploration phase, that will be reduced to 49% in any eventual development phase, with CNOOC as majority partner. The onshore tight gas PSC amendment with CNPC represents a new phase for the development of the existing Changbei block with 1,692.5 square kilometers in the Ordos Basin, and adds scope to develop additional tight gas sands and further develop the already producing main reservoir. Subject to government approval and pending the outcome of the appraisal campaign, this additional development project could increase the current production plateau of 320mmscf/d. Shell
will continue to be the operator at Changbei. In Gabon, CNOOC will acquire a 25% participating interest in offshore exploration blocks BC9 and BCD10. CNOOC will reimburse Shell for 25% of certain past exploration costs and carry part of the future exploration costs. Shell will remain operator with 75% interest. The agreement is subject to government approval. Lim Haw-Kuang, Executive Chairman of Shell Companies in China, said: “We are delighted about the return to offshore exploration in China and the opportunity to work with CNOOC again on a major project in the country. We are equally delighted to continue and expand the Changbei success story in partnership with CNPC. Moreover, we are very pleased to have entered the farm-out agreement with CNOOC in Gabon. These new projects in partnership with Chinese companies are the latest showcase of our China strategy to work with our Chinese counterparts both in China and globally to help meet the country’s energy needs to fuel its fast growing economy.

ADIL SUPPORTS ST UP FOR FORMULA A team of engineering students from the University of Aberdeen is set to swap the lecture theatre for the race track today, unveiling the racing car that they hope will put them in pole position at the world’s biggest motorsport event at Silverstone next month. A team of engineering students from the University of Aberdeen is set to swap the lecture theatre for the race track today, unveiling the racing car that they hope will put them in pole position at the world’s biggest motorsport event at Silverstone next month. The 22-strong group, known as TAU Racing, has largely designed and built the single-seater racing car from scratch, backed by donations from sponsors including ADIL, the Aberdeenheadquartered independent energy consultancy. This is the company’s fourth consecutive year as main sponsor. The challenge forms part of the 2012 Formula Student event, the testing ground for the next generation of engineers. An annual competition run by the Institution of Mechanical Engineers, student teams from around the world design, build, test and race a small-scale Formula One (F1) style racing car, a project that encourages them to develop their engineering skills while also teaching them about teamwork and working under pressure. Students from all years are taking part, including those completing postgraduate courses, across a variety of disciplines from mechanical and electrical engineering to computing. Technical director of ADIL, Tim Sibley, said: “Formula Student is a fantastic competition that
teaches students so much about the practical application of engineering. A project that provides the opportunity to design, build and race an F1 style car against teams from around the world is unrivalled in terms of offering an exciting and dynamic hands-on-experience. “As an organisation immersed in the energy industry, it is ADIL’s goal to help foster and develop a real enthusiasm for engineering and we view opportunities like this as vital in sustaining the future of the sector. “The team has worked extremely hard and I hope that their efforts will be reflected in the competition results.” The students designed and built the car’s bodywork panels, steering system, pedal box, gear selector and engine electronics. A weight reduction of 15kg on last year’s model has been introduced to improve performance, while the car’s electrical and mechanical systems have been designed to ensure greater reliability. Chris Lock, project manager of the TAU team, said: "I joined TAU Racing in 2009 and this is the third year that I have been involved. “I’ve always had a real interest in cars and motorbikes and joined because I wanted to be in the workshop fabricating things. This year, as project manager,
I’ve had a pivotal role in terms of coordinating all aspects of the car and team. “For students thinking of an engineering career, taking part in a project like this is priceless. It provides the chance to design and build components, learn to accept responsibility, work under pressure and put the theory we have learned into practice. I’m graduating this year and am
Repower: C-Power’s of farm Thornton BankII in World’s first wind farm with offshore turbines of the 6 megawatt dimension Installation of 30 REpower 6M wind turbines completed on time First turbines already commissioned Hamburg, 27 July 2012. REpower Systems SE yesterday afternoon installed the last of the 30 total REpower 6M wind turbines in the Belgian offshore wind farm Thornton Bank Phase II. The customer for this project is the Belgian offshore project development company C-Power, which was set up by four Belgian investors and counts REpower customers RWE Innogy and EDF EN amongst its shareholders. ABB and THV Seawind, a consortium between DEME and Fabricom, were among the installation partners. In 2008, REpower already delivered and installed six turbines of the REpower 5M type for the first construction phase of the Thornton Bank project. The offshore wind farm, located around 28 kilometres off the Belgian coast in waters between twelve and 27 metres deep, was officially commissioned at the end of June 2009. The 2012
construction phase covers a total of 30 turbines of the REpower 6M type. Each of the turbines has a rated power of 6.15 megawatts. In its current state before the third construction phase, the offshore wind farm thus has a total output of 215 megawatts. Andreas Nauen, CEO of REpower Systems SE, said: „With the
REpower 6M, we are proud to have installed the most powerful offshore wind turbine to date. The fact that we were able to complete Phase II successfully and on time is proof of our welldeveloped logistics concept and the good cooperation between the teams during the installation of the turbines. We look forward to initiating the third construction phase of Thornton Bank with a further 18 REpower 6M turbines next year together with our longstanding customer C-Power.” “Before the start of this installation phase, the project partners, our customer CPower, ABB, THV Seawind and REpower had all agreed to strict safety rules and to the principle of holding operational health and safety as our key priority. We all committed to this in a ‘Safety

Sinopec to Acquire pct 49 Stake in Talisman’s UK North Sea Assets Talisman Energy Inc. announced that it has reached an agreement in the North Sea with Sinopec International Petroleum Exploration and Production Corporation, whereby Sinopec will acquire a 49% equity interest in Talisman’s UK North Sea business, Talisman Energy (UK) Limited (TEUK), for $1.5 billion. “We are very pleased to reach this agreement with Sinopec for the next phase of development of our UK North Sea assets,” said John A. Manzoni, President and CEO. “This will provide additional resources and energy to the talented team on the ground, creating an exciting future for this portfolio. Collectively, we will invest more in the UK than Talisman would have on its own, leading to a stronger, more sustainable business.
preparing to start a position with a leading company in the energy industry. I have no doubt that the experience gained through Formula Student were key to securing the role.” Professor Tom O‘Donoghue, head of the School of Engineering at the university, said: “The competition is a prime opportunity for engineering students from across academic years to work
together and apply the knowledge they are gaining in their degree programmes to a real life scenario. “This year, the team has shown great enthusiasm and dedication towards the project and that certainly shows in the racing car they have developed.” Other sponsors include Technip, Moto GF, Nexen, Maersk Oil, Scots Bearings, Grampian Fasteners, University of Aberdeen
ffshore wind nstalled Charter’ before we had even shaken hands on anything else,” commented Frank Zimmermann, President Offshore at REpower. “During the execution phase we paid special attention to ensure that all people involved in the project thought and acted in a safety-conscious manner in accordance with our charter. In this way we were once again able to avoid noteworthy accidents in our offshore project, which in my opinion is the most important thing.” Companies from Belgium, Germany, France, the Netherlands, Denmark and Sweden are involved in Thornton Bank, making the wind farm a showcase project for the European offshore wind industry. Following the completion of all
three construction phases, the wind farm will have a total output of 325 megawatts – enough to supply 600.000 people or a city the size of Glasgow with electricity. In terms of investment volume, the contract marks the largest financing for a completed project to date in the offshore wind industry overall. In all three construction phases, REpower’s scope of delivery covers the production and supply of the nacelles, towers, blades and hubs as well as the preinstallation in the port of Oostende, the offshore installation and the commissioning and the test run of the turbines. With regards to service and maintenance, REpower will deliver its full service product OFS for all three phases, which includes responsibility for transportation at sea.

“At the same time, Talisman has delivered on two key promises for the year. We are reducing our working interest and capital spend in the UK business by approximately half, allowing us to focus on and fund growth areas within our portfolio. This brings our total divestment proceeds to approximately $2.5 billion so far this year. We plan to utilize approximately $500 million of the proceeds from this sale to repurchase shares.” Transaction Details The deal structure will be a corporate joint venture whereby Sinopec will buy 49% of the shares of TEUK for $1.5 billion, with adjustments for working capital. This will proportionately reduce Talisman’s share of capital spending, production and abandonment liabilities for
its UK business. The effective date of the sale is January 1, 2012, and the transaction is expected to close by the end of this year, subject to government and regulatory approval. The joint venture plans to invest to improve ongoing operating performance, as well as infill drilling, exploration opportunities and major projects, thereby extending field life and deferring decommissioning. Talisman and Sinopec share a philosophy of safe operations, which will continue to be the number one priority of the joint venture. TEUK will operate the assets, and Sinopec will appoint select personnel into key positions within the organization. TEUK is based in Aberdeen, Scotland and employs 564 full-time employees, with approximately 1,950 core contractors. No reductions to TEUK personnel are expected as a result of this transaction. Talisman entered the North Sea in 1994 and today holds operated and nonoperated interests in 46 fields, and operates 11 offshore installations and an onshore terminal. The portfolio includes opportunities for infill wells, project developments and exploration.

ROV survey has identified a second leak on the Fairfield Energy-operated Osprey subsea facilities in the UK northern North Sea. Until equipment can be mobilized for the repair, the Osprey manifold and associated pipe work will be filled with seawater. The two Osprey wells will remain closed in until the work is completed.

different part of the manifold. Fairfield stresses that all relevant UK authorities are aware of the situation and there is continuing dialogue with the Department of Energy and Climate Change. Osprey is a multi-well development tied back to the Fairfield-owned Dunlin Alpha platform, 195 km (121 mi) northeast of Shetland.
The Large Hadron Collider (LHC) at CERN, the European Organisation for Nuclear Research, in Geneva, combines state-of-the-art science and engineering. Its revolutionary cryogenics system has been designed to keep the machine at a temperature so close to absolute zero that it can operate in a superconductive state.
Suncor Energy has failed to prove more oil at the Beta discovery in the North Sea
Now similar technologies are being considered for use in both the energy and electrical power industries.
The Songa Delta drilled appraisal well 33/6-3 on the Beta oil structure, proven in 2010, about 20 km (12.4 mi) northwest of the Snorre field. According to the Norwegian Petroleum Directorate.
Dr Philippe Lebrun, who led CERN’s Accelerator Technology Department for the construction of the LHC, has today been revealed as one of speakers at Gastech’s CoTEs seminars. He will talk about the cryogenic technology at the heart of the system, and several projects that are following this trend.
Following reporting of a small oil spill earlier this month, intervention work pinpointed a leak on a line between an Osprey wellhead and the subsea manifold. Divers successfully isolated the pipe work on July 20. Last week, however, an ROV assisting in monitoring start-up operations detected another leak on a
The resource estimate for the discovery had been in the range 7-40 MMcm recoverable oil. Suncor’s well, the first on license PL375 B, was designed to delineate a separate structure southwest of the 34/4-11 discovery. It encountered Early Jurassic reservoir rocks in the Statfjord formation, but the well was dry. Valemon field is in blocks 34/10 and 34/11, between the Kvitebjørn and Gullfaks Sør platforms.
He said: “While the work we are doing is very exotic and has not yet fully invaded the field of energy, there is the potential in the longer-term for it to be applied more to the mainstream. There is, for example, a link with liquefied natural gas (LNG) in that we share a number
of technologies used for the liquefaction and distillation processes, as well as for the construction of LNG tankers.” While natural gas is used as an ambient temperature gas rather than a liquid, liquefaction allows it to be transferred over long distances to a receiving terminal with cryogenics equipment. Development of such technology will make it possible for larger quantities of LNG to be transferred more efficiently. Gastech’s Centres of Technical Excellence (CoTEs) is a crucial showcase for the latest innovation, technologies, products, services and suppliers involved in the energy industry, with the full speaker programme now available at http://www. gastech.co.uk/visit-exhibition/ cotes/. Siemens and Dong energy sign €2.5bn offshore wind power deal Deal to supply 300 offshore wind turbines increases likelihood of Siemens green-lighting new UK manufacturing plant Siemens' plans for a new wind turbine manufacturing facility in the UK have taken a significant step forward, after the company announced it has inked a major new offshore-turbine supply deal with developer DONG energy. The two companies have signed a framework agreement that will see Siemens supply 300 of its 6MW offshore turbines to offshore wind-farm projects planned by DONG for UK waters between 2014 and 2017. The financial details of the deal were not disclosed, but analysts estimate that offshore turbines typically cost around €1.4m per MW, putting the total cost of the 1,800MW at €2.52bn. "The agreement will enable DONG Energy to install a significantly larger turbine from 2014 compared with the turbines we know today," said acting DONG Energy chief executive Carsten Krogsgaard Thomsen in a statement. "The agreement on the supply of the new turbines totalling 1,800MW is an important step towards the growing wind
industry, and will help make offshore wind more competitive." Under the terms of the deal, Siemens will "design, manufacture, supply, install and service" the turbines, while the two firms have also agreed product and performance warranties. Significantly, the agreement commits DONG Energy to pay a cancellation fee if the projects covered by the deal are cancelled. As such, the move significantly increases the likelihood of Siemens moving forward with plans for a new £210m wind turbine factory in Hull. The company has already gained approval from a local planning committee for the development, and had been waiting to secure orders to move forward with the investment. Siemens today declined to confirm whether it would definitely green-light the project, but a source close to the

company acknowledged that the deal with DONG Energy significantly increased the likelihood of the factory being built. "Transporting big turbine nacelles is not easy, and this deal is for wind farms in UK waters," the source said. The deal builds on DONG Energy's long-standing partnership with Siemens, which currently supplies turbines for DONG's Lincs, London Array and West of Duddon Sands offshore wind farms in the UK, as well as its Borkum Riffgrund 1 development in Germany and Anholt offshore wind farm in Denmark. The news comes just a day after new figures from the European
Wind Energy Association confirmed the UK's position as the world's leading offshore wind market. The report revealed that the rate at which new offshore turbines are being erected increased by 50 per cent during the first six months of the year, while 114 of the 132 turbines connected to the grid in Europe over the same period were located in UK waters. This week also saw DONG Energy and Centrica edge forward with plans for a major new offshore wind farm in the Irish Sea as part of the UK's so-called Round 3 developments, after the two companies submitted initial proposals to the National Infrastructure Planning agency.
transportation, processing, and sales of hydrocarbons. Juan Carlos Arancón, director of Enagás’ transmission division and Daniel Velez, a project engineer with the company, will discuss the firm’s role in the design and construction of the Balearic Submarine Pipeline Project. Spain’s principal highpressure natural gas transport company undertook the design and installation of a submarine pipeline, linking the mainland to the Balearic Islands of Ibiza and Mallorca. Saudi Aramco operations’ superintendent, Salem Al-Huraish, will share information about the Karan Gas Field, the national oil major’s first offshore gas field and a key part of the country’s plan to reduce oil dependency through increased gas production. Meanwhile, INFRA Technology’s chief technical officer, Dr Vladimir Mordkovich, will discuss the organisation’s new energy transformation technologies, which enable the production of high quality, low cost synthetic oil or motor fuel from natural gas, coal, biomass or other carboncontaining feedstock. The CoTEs involve the industry’s most respected associations to ensure that sessions are both informative and educational. These include the Gas Technology Institute for Unconventional Gas, Lloyd’s Register for LNG as a Shipping Fuel, the International Institute of Refrigeration for Cryogenics and Gas Processors Association Europe (GPAE) for the Gas Processing stream. Amanda Basi, the producer of the CoTEs, said: “The impressive speaker line-up is a real testament to the level of interest in Gastech this year. It is one of the most anticipated events on the industry calendar and we are looking to welcoming delegates and visitors from around the world.” Created to deliver knowledge, education and awareness of new innovations and developments in gas technology, the CoTEs exhibition show floor seminars are designed to provide a platform for many of the world’s most-respected industry associations and organisations. Utilising high-level speakers throughout the four days of the show, the seminars will focus on specific areas of interest to those working in the global gas industry, encouraging thoughtprovoking discussion. The CoTEs comprise 12 different streams, focused on specific interest areas, from Gas Processing and Unconventional Gas to Floating LNG. LUBBERS LOGISTICS B.V. AWARDED WITH AEO STATUS Lubbers Logistics B.V. (founded in 1929) carried out the first transports for the Oil & Gas industry in 1947, when the Schoonebeek oilfield close to Lubbers home base was discovered. From this moment Lubbers specialized further in transportation for the O&G industry and invested in experienced personnel and specialized equipment. The activities in the Netherlands increased and finally Lubbers network expanded to its current size with 11 bases in 7 countries. To optimise the service level Lubbers added new activities to its service package. New services such as offshore container rentals, flex power (Oil & Gas), rig moves (onshore), intercontinental transports & projects and warehousing are now offered to customers. This wide service portfolio gives Lubbers an eminent role within the international supply chains. This “new” role brings new responsibilities and obligations. The international supply chains, especially within the Oil & Gas industry, require stricter cost control, health & safety and security measures. After the terrorist attacks in the USA in 2011
with the Authorized Economic Operator (AEO) status. Dutch Customs has accredited Lubbers Logistics B.V. on behalf of the EU with the AEO status for “Customs Simplifications” and “Security Facilitations”. This means that Lubbers is appointed officially as a secure member of the supply chain and as a reliable trading partner.
Following the enhanced safety and security regulations, the Logistics community identified a need for standard procedures on European level. These procedures facilitate a safer supply chain and enable smooth customs handling. It has been decided that reliable operators, who are compliant to these standards will be awarded
