Tailored Damen Shoalbuster SD for Smit Lamnalco The recently delivered ‘SL Mbissi’ will be the next Damen-built vessel in fleet of Smit Lamnalco. Nonetheless, the 25 metre shallow water workship is special in more ways than one. Firstly, it’s the firstever Damen Shoalbuster for Smit Lamnalco.
“By changing a proven standard design into a bespoke, ‘made-tomeasure’ vessel, we’ve united our group’s edge in both fields. Which itself is a unique selling point”, Palle Bonemeijer, the project manager involved with Damen Shipyards Harxdinxveld adds.
Although Smit Lamnalco, leading provider of integrated marine services, already deploys a lot of Damen-built vessels – six of which having been delivered in the past 15 months alone – it had yet to order a Damen Shoalbuster SD. The series’ name is a poetic licence to ‘shallow draught’ (SD).
Versatile Smit Lamnalco will mainly deploy the versatile Shoalbuster for marine support services for offshore oil facilities. This will include buoy maintenance and hose handling.
Standard turned bespoke The ‘SL Mbissi’ was built by Damen Shipyards Hardinxveld (the Netherlands) which also designs all Damen Multi Cat and Shoalbuster ‘jack of all trades’ workships series. The SBu 2508 SD is also special in that it is a standard design turned tailormade vessel.
Main characteristics of the Damen Shoalbuster 2508 SD: • Length o.a. 24.82 m (2508) • Width 8,00 m (2508) • Draught 1.80 m • Bollard pull 19.7 tonnes • Speed 11 knots • Propulsion 1,360 bhp at 2,100 rpm from 2 main engines. 2 fixed pitch propellers in 1,400 mm nozzles.
125 bhp bowthruster. • Deck equipment Feat. electrical towing winch 200m 40mm, 30t 6,5m/min and 9,5t 24m/min. Brake 50t. • Accommodation 6 persons. Smit Lamnalco Smit Lamnalco is the leading provider of safe and efficient towage and associated marine services to the oil and gas terminal industry. With more than 190 vessels and over 3,000 staff worldwide, Smit Lamnalco is dedicated to providing marine support services tailored to the operational needs of global customers in local markets. Active in over 30 countries, Smit Lamnalco specialises in bringing international standards on safety, logistics, mooring and towage to onshore and offshore operations in challenging environments. www.smitlamnalco.com
“We sought a draught not exceeding 1.80 metres, to cope with a bar in the vessel’s operational area”, Smit Lamnalco’s CTO Rick Maliepaard says. “The shipyard’s engineering added a good metre to their 23.8 metre long standard design and suggested lighter main engines, to get the draught down (or up if you will). It has taken a minimum 20 centimetres off the standard 2308 SD’s draught, whilst still maintaining a truly potent 19.7 tonne bollard pull.”
In addition, Siemens will provide spare parts for the components through a long-term parts supply agreement. The plant will be operated by Société Algérienne de Production de l’Electricité (SPE) - a company of the state-owned utility Socièté Nationale de l’Electricité et du Gaz (Sonelgaz). Commissioning is scheduled for August 2014. The simple cycle power plant Biskra will be constructed in the capital city of Biskra province, North Eastern part of Algeria. It will have an installed capacity of approximately 460 megawatts. Siemens’ scope of supply includes two Model SGT5-4000F gas turbines, two SGen5-1000A generators as well as technical field assistance during the erection and commissioning phase. A 10year spare parts supply agreement has also been concluded. This is the third order placed with Siemens Energy within the last year for power plant components

New CEO takes the helm as Air2Work invests £1million in UKCS base ENERGY sector breathing equipment specialist Air2Work today announces the appointment of new CEO Kevin O’Connor in Aberdeen, as it confirms an investment of more than £1million to expand its UKCS fleet of equipment for workers operating in hazardous environments on and offshore. Air2Work markets and services breathing air systems, developed and built by parent company E Innovation in Norway, delivering them across the UKCS North Sea and Norwegian sector, with a target to grow the business into the US, Canada and Australia. The company, which secured contracts with operators and oilfield service companies worth a substantial six-figure sum in the final quarter of 2013, currently has six staff at its base at Wellheads Industrial Estate, Aberdeen in addition to a team of 50 in Norway. Air2Work will employ two additional staff to support its technical engineering and sales teams in Aberdeen, as it doubles its rental fleet of breathing air systems to 30 units, with further capital investment expected to follow on the back of contract wins expected later in the year. Kevin O’Connor will lead Air2Work’s UKCS growth plans as former CEO Alan Brodie moves into a non-executive director’s position. “The marketplace is continually growing and there are significant opportunities for Air2Work, particularly given the ageing nature of assets throughout the global oil and gas industry – both in terms of renovation and decommissioning,” says Kevin. “Major renovation programmes, as part of shutdown and turnaround operations, involve exposing energy sector workers to hazardous conditions and our equipment provides them with guaranteed safe breathing air.“We are seeing
rising demand from asset maintenance contractors, with projects such as blasting and painting, tank cleaning and non-destructive testing campaigns, sandblasting and painting also involving specialists undertaking works in hazardous environment operations. “Continuously monitoring air quality and remediating the effects of hazardous substances for those contractors is absolutely crucial to ensuring their safety – providing the capability to deliver safe air is the cornerstone of Air2Work’s business.” A former engineer and commissioned education officer in the RAF, Kevin is an experienced sales, operations and business restructuring director with a background in the civil, aviation and defence sectors. He has worked across the energy sector for companies including Baker Hughes, Halliburton and Cameron. Air2Work was established in 2010, and moved into the UKCS in 2012 following the opening of its Aberdeen base. Its breathing air systems are the first ATEX Zone 1-certified technology of its kind, combining an oil-free air compressor, real-time air quality monitoring equipment and emergency back-up air source in a portable unit. The equipment is designed for use on offshore platforms and vessels as well as at land-based worksites. In addition to monitoring and filtering air, the Air2Work system delivers it at a temperature which ensures technicians’ masks don’t steam up, with a dew point less dry than that supplied by HP bottled air significantly improving their ability to work safely. Air2Work is exhibiting at the Shutdowns & Turnarounds Europe 2014 Conference, at Aberdeen Exhibition and Conference Centre, from February 24-26 – Stand 2.
Multiple objectives reported for Edvard Grieg appraisal well The semisubmersible Island Innovator has spudded an appraisal well on the southeastern part of the Edvard Grieg field in the Norwegian central North Sea. According to operator Lundin Petroleum, well 16/1-18 on license PL338 is designed to confirm the geological model at this part of the field to optimize drainage strategy
and placement of development wells. Another goal is to prove additional reserve volumes. The location is around 2.4 km (1.5 mi) east of the Edvard Grieg platform location. Planned TD is roughly 2,300 m (7,546 ft) below mean sea level. Drilling operations are estimated to last 55 days.
DOUBLE BOOST FOR AB SCOTTISH GOVERNMEN REPORT BACK EXPANS “Aberdeen Harbour has a vital role to play in the future of Scotland’s oil and gas, renewable and decommissioning industries”. Plans by Aberdeen Harbour Board to create additional berthing facilities at Nigg Bay have received a double boost. An independent report has estimated the economic benefit of the development to the local and national economies to be nearly £1billion per annum. This report has been published in the same month that the Scottish Government, in their National Planning Process, has named the Nigg Bay Development as one of only 14 projects that they consider to be of national importance to Scotland. The independent report, Economic Impact of Aberdeen Harbour Nigg Bay Development, commissioned by Scottish Enterprise and produced by Midlothian-based BiGGAR Economics, studies the
impacts of a potential second harbour being constructed within Nigg Bay. It estimates that under a full development scenario, which includes upgrading the road infrastructure around Nigg Bay, and in particular, an improved coastal road linking through to the Aberdeen Western Peripheral Route (AWPR), would result in Aberdeen Harbour, as a whole, contributing £2billion annually, to the Scottish economy and supporting 15,000 jobs, an increase of 30% on the port’s current impact. Of this figure the port would contribute an additional £500million directly to Aberdeen City and Shire.
According to findings, failure to expand the harbour would lead to a decrease of £500million per annum to the Scottish economy by 2034, an outcome largely attributed to likely increased competition from abroad. The findings of the Report come as the potential development at Nigg Bay is shortlisted in the Scottish Government’s proposed third National Planning Framework (NPF3), with the document identifying the project as one of national significance due to its major contribution to the oil and gas industry. Welcoming these publications, Aberdeen Harbour Board chief executive, Colin Parker said: “We are delighted that our project is being recognised for its full worth,

BERDEEN HARBOUR AS NT AND INDEPENDENT SION PLANS both independently, and by the Scottish Government. As a Trust Port, our mission is to create a harbour that is fit for purpose for future generations, and which truly reflects our customers’ needs. We believe that a second harbour at Nigg Bay would fulfill both of these requirements. This report, and the support of the government, reinforces our belief that the development would provide significant economic rewards, not only for our customers, local communities, Aberdeen City and Shire, but for Scotland as a whole”. Mr. Parker continues: “The initial studies indicate that the £320million development at Nigg Bay could create up to 1500 metres of deep-water quays. This increase in capacity is vital in order to accommodate the demands
that the harbour is currently facing, whilst also positioning us to attract future traffic flows associated with the subsea and renewables sectors. Scottish Enterprise energy sector portfolio director, Maggie McGinlay, added: “Aberdeen Harbour is one of Europe’s leading marine support centres for offshore energy and makes a significant contribution to the Scottish Economy. Aberdeen Harbour links with over 40 countries across the world and plays a critical role in supporting Scotland’s oil and gas sector. “The results of this research show that any additional capacity at the port would further support the oil and gas industry supply chain ensuring there is a longterm vibrant sector anchored in Scotland.”
In addition, the improved facilities at Nigg Bay could also generate a significant increase in cruise ship visits. Mr Parker added: “The Harbour at present is operating at near capacity. Over the past few years we have experienced increased demand from our customers and have developed, as far as possible, the existing infrastructure of the port. It is clear that additional capacity is required to retain this activity, and avoid losing this work to our overseas competitors, whilst also taking advantage of new opportunities in the subsea, cruise and renewable energy markets. That the development at Nigg Bay provides such benefits to the national economy only strengthens our belief in the far reaching value of the project for all concerned”.
SAFE MOBILE DEVICES DELIVERING EFFICIENCY IMPROVEMENTS OFFSHORE IN-FOCUS IN STAVANGER ADVANCED mobile technology which enables offshore workers to use handheld computers equipped with vital inventory management systems in explosive environments will be the focus of an event in Stavanger next month. Aberdeen-based SAP specialist Absoft has partnered with smartphone developer Airacom to provide SAP Syclo Mobile apps, which increase efficiency and improve productivity, for the devices in response to demand from offshore operators and service companies. Syclo Mobile enables operations teams to communicate with the supply chain more effectively, reducing paperwork by allowing data to be electronically delivered to SAP systems which manage offshore inventory, from any remote location in the field. Oil and gas maintenance and inventory managers will have the chance to discuss the ATEX-certified technology with specialists from Absoft and Airacom in Stavanger on Tuesday March 4, 2014. Bjorn Harzer, SAP solutions architect at Absoft, will demonstrate how three SAP Syclo applications - Rounds Manager, Inventory Manager and Works Manager – can be used to ensure orders can be made, parts delivered and workers mobilised to site to carry out vital installation, inspection and maintenance operations.
Mr Harzer says: “Syclo Mobile streamlines work cycles, generates instant notifications and removes the need for archaic paper systems – and its availability on an ATEX-certified mobile device means that the system can be used in any area of an offshore asset “Safety and efficiency are major considerations in any E&P environment so the availability of smartphones which can be used without the risk of causing an explosion is a major step forward. “Previously, data from the field was recorded on paper and then sent on for input into SAP systems used to manage offshore processes, and replacing that method with a reliable digital platform is also a significant, positive change for operators.” The event runs from 8.30am to 11am at The Park Inn by Radisson, Lagårdsveien 61, 4010 Stavanger.
We zullen hem uitnodigen!

Petrotechnics Sponsors SPE’s first Human Factors Risk Management Conference with Keynote Addressed by Rt Hon Lord Cullen Petrotechnics, the global leader in transforming frontline operational performance and lowering operational risk is pleased to announce its supporting sponsorship of what is set to be one of the most prominent SPE conferences of the year - Another Perspective on Risk. Held at the Aberdeen Exhibition Centre on 05 March, the conference will review a range of risk dimensions including those affected by human factors. In addition, it will take a deeper look at the next generation sources of risk that have emerged since Cullen’s recommendations in the 1990’s, following the Piper disaster. Another Persepctive on Risk will gather a prestigious collection of experts from around the world, including Susan Mckenzie (Head of HSE Executive) and Les Linklater (Team Leader of Step Change in Safety). This will be the first SPE event to focus on human factors and their role in driving risk. Petrotechnics has spent 25 years working with companies to consider the impact of human factors on the riskier part of their operational environment – the interaction between plant and people - work control and execution. Sponsoring the event was a natural and welcome opportunity. Petrotechnics’ CEO Phil Murray explains ‘For decades, SPE have been delivering thought leading and provocative conferences for oil and gas professionals all over the world. It has won the global reputation for sharing insights, best practices and providing a platform for practical discussion about ensuring organisational and individual competency. With the first human factors risk event of its kind in our home market, we felt it was appropriate to support and sponsor an event addressing such pertinent issues,
particularly since our domain is in risk management.’ Murray continues ‘As a technology provider, we understand the risks of deploying technology without understanding the impact of both processes and people. Over the years, we’ve helped many organisations identify how and where to simplify the complexities of the frontline operations to take the human factors into account. Empowering the human is important to us, where better support is required when it comes to operational decision making in such an unpredictable environment. Hopefully, we can contribute to this event as well as learn from some of our peers’ Chair of SPE Another Perspective Committee, Ella Minty commented: “Human risk, just like Lord Cullen said in his latest interview for the Conference, is a topic that has been constantly avoided for many years. However, no forward and sustainable industry progress can be achieved without allowing the human risk to be one of the main pillars of HSE. In constantly changing working environments, in introducing new plant and equipment, in rolling out a variety of initiatives across the business or project regions, people play a major and often overlooked role. Petrotechnics, one of the risk management leaders of the UK oil and gas industry, has certainly understood that there is a need to genuinely address the human risk and their supporting sponsorship of the AP Conference came very shortly after its official launch. As one of the Sections of the largest membership organisation in the world, SPE Aberdeen is grateful to Petrotechnics for its support - attainable outcomes cannot be achieved without the sponsors’ support and willingness to take them further.”
United industry behind joint seismic acquisition The project for joint seismic acquisition in the southeastern Barents Sea has been joined by 16 new companies. A total of 33 companies are now part of this project, which will secure good data quality and low acquisition costs. A joint acquisition of data will also limit any possible negative consequences for the fishing industry. The recently opened southeastern Barents Sea is part of the 23rd licensing round on the Norwegian continental shelf in 2014. At the request of the Norwegian Ministry of Petroleum and Energy (OED), the Norwegian Oil and Gas Association launched an initiative for a joint project relating to acquiring 3D seismic data from blocks in this area. Statoil
took on the operator role for the acquisition. On 10 December last year, 17 companies joined the project as early participants. A further 16 companies followed suit after the OED on 14 February circulated a proposal regarding block announcements for public consultation. A doubling of the number of companies in the project shows that the initiative enjoys solid industry support. It is a project that will further reduce costs while ensuring good quality data by utilising the companies’ concerted competencies. In March the project will announce the awarding of contracts and present further plans for the acquisition.

EnQuest pioneers game-changing approach to incident management in the North Sea A new, fully-integrated incident investigation, reporting and management tool being implemented by EnQuest is believed to be an industry first for the North Sea. The innovation integrates two well-established market-leading systems for the first time, which together enable seamless incident investigation, reporting and management from start to finish, unlike many standalone, off-theshelf solutions. EnQuest, the largest UK independent producer in the UK North Sea, was the driving force behind the development of the tool, which involved embedding Kelvin TOP-SET’s specialist investigation software with DNV GL’s Synergi™ Life tool, which is dedicated to capturing, categorising and recording incidents. Barry Quinn, senior health, safety, environment and assurance advisor at EnQuest, who led the development of the integrated system said: “At EnQuest our top priority is to achieve and maintain excellence in health, safety and environmental performance, which means we are always looking at ways in which we can learn lessons and continually improve the way we operate. “We wanted to create a tool that would give us a complete, endto-end process from incident identification, recording and investigation through to cause analysis and effective corrective action, and while there are many great solutions on the market we were unable to identify any that fully incorporated incident management and investigation capabilities. “In bringing the two systems together we have created a tool that standardises our approach to incident investigation and gives us a complete and accurate picture of all incidents across our assets, which will be extremely valuable in helping us to learn lessons and ensure we continue to deliver safe
results. It is also time and cost effective because it removes the need to manually cross-reference or transfer information from one system to another.” Mr Quinn added: “More than 100 people in our offshore and onshore teams have already been trained in the system and the feedback has been extremely positive. We’ve also had a lot of interest from other operators, particularly from those in the Norwegian sector, who are keen to see the work we have done.” George Dyer-Wilson, global business development manager at Kelvin TOP-SET said: “The benefits of merging the Synergi Life and TOP-SET systems have been well recognised for some time but EnQuest was instrumental in bringing all parties together and making it happen. “Although relatively young, EnQuest is a very dynamic, agile and visionary company. They know what they want and they get it done. As a result, DNV GL and Kelvin TOP-SET were able to get all the key people around a table and work collaboratively to deliver a solution that we believe has the potential to change the way the oil and gas industry looks at incident management.” Mr Dyer-Wilson believes the integrated software system is also likely to receive widespread interest on a global scale from a number of other industries. Paul Stanfield from DNV GL Software said: “EnQuest is a longstanding and valued customer for our Synergi Life solution, and we are delighted that this integration with Kelvin TOP-SET is adding real value to their system. I am sure that many other organisations in the oil and gas sector anywhere in the world will be interested in this best-practice collaboration.” Picture caption: EnQuest’s new incident management system believed to be a first for the North Sea.

Senergy engineers prepare two papers for international conference Engineers from global leading energy services company Senergy are set to share their expertise across two presentations at an international conference focusing on formation damage. Mike Byrne, global technical head in formation damage will put forward papers at the SPE International Symposium and Exhibition on Formation Damage Control in Louisiana from 26-28 February. The event, which includes training courses and technical sessions, aims to cover the range of challenges and remedies for all things related to the identification, prevention, and remediation of formation damage. Delegates will hear two presentations from Senergy’s team – the first is entitled ‘Complex Completion Design and Inflow Prediction Enabled by Detailed Numerical Modeling’ which will be presented by Senior CFD Consultant, Lesmana Djayapertapa and the second, ‘Fines Migration in Oil and Gas Reservoirs: Quantification and Qualification Through Detailed Study’, will be presented by Mr Byrne. Mr Byrne will also chair a session entitled, ‘New Developments and Field Experiences’ at the conference and will present a two day course in Formation Damage Prevention.
formation damage is an extremely important area in enabling us to maximise production. “Examining ways to increase efficiency and cost effectiveness will benefit the industry as a whole. I look forward to discussing the latest ideas and believe the conference will allow us to consider the different ways we can refine and improve upon current practices.” Senergy delivers fully integrated project and asset development services across the energy industry. Its services encompass geosciences, reservoir engineering, geohazard assessment, marine site surveys, rig positioning, wells engineering and operations, production optimisation, reserve and asset evaluation, facilities engineering, project management, power engineering and alternative energy solutions. Senergy also develops and supports innovative software technologies including Interactive Petrophysics™ and Oilfield Data Manager™. Senergy developed a market first in Wellscope™ in 2010. Mr Byrne was instrumental in its development.
The package addresses drilling and completing wells from an entirely new perspective by using computational fluid dynamics (CFD). CFD is a computational technology that enables the study of the dynamics of things that flow. The tool has the capability to produce 3D models of prospective wells to estimate the inflow performance of horizontal, deviated and vertical wells under various damage and completion scenarios. Wellscope provides a more accurate prediction of a well’s performance. In addition, the cells can be recalculated individually or collectively at the touch of a button to provide ongoing updates of a well’s condition. This offers users insight into how to best evaluate and approach the near wellbore inflow performance and as a result maximise the well’s performance. The CFD based technology is set to transform the industry’s approach to inflow performance, ultimately increasing productivity and costeffectiveness for clients.
The exhibition is aimed at engineers and geoscientists including reservoir, petroleum, drilling and completion engineers, production technologists, reservoir geologists, production chemists, and formation damage specialists. Mr Byrne said: “The oil & gas industry is putting an ever increasing focus on making the most of our resources. Understanding and controlling
Outlook for offshore pipe industry strong
in 2014 according to Tata Steel report The European outlook for the offshore pipe industry in 2014 is positive, according to a recent report conducted by Tata Steel, a leader in the supply of innovative deep-water pipe line solutions.
as a consequence progress in major infrastructure projects has been delayed, we are now experiencing real signs of recovery and a change in momentum, both onshore and offshore.
The study, conducted by Europe’s second largest steel producer, points to high energy demand from Africa, Asia and BRIC (Brazil, Russia, India and China) nations which will continue to drive offshore developments.
Budgets will continue to be challenged, but the industry will continue to step up to the challenge, push the boundaries and drive innovation.”
The study highlights the growth in deepwater developments in Africa and Europe as signs that the offshore pipe line industry is set to continue its recovery. Richard Broughton, Commercial Manager for the pipe lines division of Tata Steel, said: “Whilst it is undeniable that the economic recovery has been sluggish and
Investment in deepwater exploration has increased significantly over the past year and is expected to continue as easyto-reach reserves continue to be depleted. Also emphasised is the likely growth in pipe line transportation as new sources of shale gas come on line. In particular the report highlights Russia as a region of significance for 2014.
Mr Broughton added: “Increased investment from operators will see infrastructure requirements grow. Already we are beginning to see the signs of this offshore activity in regions like the Gulf of Mexico, where spending will represent a third of all deepwater activity globally and the Middle East, where existing brownfield infrastructure needs to be replaced and new installed. Both represent significant opportunities for the pipe line industry. Shale will also play an important role, particularly as renewable energy progress has been intermittent.” Tata Steel is a sponsor and attending the Offshore Pipeline Technology Conference, Amsterdam on 26-27 February at the Krasnapolsky Hotel. Oil prices fall as US crude stocks likely to increase Oil prices fell today as investors worried that US commercial crude stocks are expected to rise with signs of winter fading, which could lead to a decrease in demand for heating fuel. Brent crude dropped by 19 cents to $110.45 a barrel, while US oil was down by 44 cents to $102.39, reported Reuters. According to Reuters’s latest survey, US commercial crude stocks were expected to rise by 1.4 million barrels on average for the week ending 21 February. The survey revealed that stocks of heating oil and diesel fuels were forecast to drop by 1.5 million barrels on average last week. Investors are waiting for the American Petroleum Institute (API) and the US Department of Energy’s Energy Information Administration (EIA) weekly
inventory reports. Crude prices were under pressure as upcoming summer maintenance in US and North Sea refineries is likely to cause stockpiles to accumulate. But analysts believe that a steep fall in crude is unlikely with worries of further supply disruption continuing due to ongoing unrest in Libya, South Sudan and Nigeria. Libyan production plunged further
over the weekend, falling to 230,000bpd on Sunday after new protests led to the shut down of the El Sharara field. The Government of Libya introduced spending caps as some ministries struggled to pay their bills. Brent prices received more support as South Sudan’s oil production dropped to around a third of its capacity at 170,000bpd.
Barents Sea seismic collaboration grows The Statoil ASA-operated collaboration of oil and gas companies for joint seismic acquisition in the southeastern Barents Sea has expanded, adding 16 companies to reach an updated total of 33. Airbus Helicopters brings a new vision, Sure Wind takes delivery enhanced product line and innovative of second Damen Twin service solutions to Heli-Expo 2014 Axe FCS 2610 Heli-Expo 2014 will mark Airbus Helicopters’ first major rotorcraft industry event in its new identity, with the company showcasing an evolved product line, diversified service offerings and a strategy that reflects its core changes. “Under our new name, Airbus Helicopters, we have redefined our priorities. We are committed to new standards with respect to customer satisfaction, quality and safety, and competitiveness,” said Airbus Helicopters President Guillaume Faury. “We’re implementing these priorities by placing our efforts on product reliability and availability, the reduction of lead times and production costs, and integrating the Airbus Group’s standards of quality – all while setting new standards in the helicopter industry in the key domain of aviation safety.” To be announced at the exposition’s Anaheim Convention Center venue is Airbus Helicopter’s upgraded version of its proven EC225 Super Puma: the EC225e. This new variant responds to operators’ requirements for extended-range missions – particularly in support of deep-water oil and gas airlift duties. Airbus Helicopters’ nextgeneration EC175, which received European certification in January, will be represented at Heli-Expo with the display of a high-fidelity full-scale mockup in the corporate configuration. To support the
EC175’s service entry, dedicated resources will be available to customers, including spare parts inventories and on-site technical assistance.
By the time EC175 deliveries begin later this year, the initial pilots will have received training on a flight navigation procedure training (FNPT) and Level D fullflight simulator – both located in Marignane and operational in spring and summer 2014, respectively. As the fleet expands, other EC175 full-flight simulators will be deployed in close proximity to regions where customers are introducing the aircraft into service. Also exhibited at Heli-Expo is the new EC145 T2, to be certified and delivered in 2014. This latest evolution of the EC145 is equipped for the first time with Airbus Helicopters’ signature Fenestron® shrouded tail rotor, as well as upgraded main and tail rotor gear boxes. Operators of the EC145 T2 will have access to a service portfolio that includes training and operations, system and software maintenance, and turnkey solutions. An EC145 T2 full-flight simulator will be deployed at Donäuworth, Germany in 2015. Another helicopter making its Heli-Expo debut is the AS332 C1e, representing the company’s approach to offering standardized helicopter versions that respond to multi-role mission needs. This enables a streamlined production process for reduced delivery
lead times while incorporating modern avionics and system improvements. Features of the AS332 C1e include the glass cockpit, four-axis autopilot and associated automatic flight control system from the EC225 Super Puma, which provides flight envelope protection, unrivalled precision and stability in even the harshest operating conditions. Joining these helicopters on Airbus Helicopters’ exhibit in Anaheim will be the EC135 T2 in a law enforcement configuration for the Massachusetts State Police, and an EC130 T2 with a glass cockpit.
Another emphasis of Airbus Helicopters’ Heli-Expo 2014 presence will be the company’s comprehensive support and services portfolio, which is tailored to meet operators’ unique requirements. On display will be exhibits dedicated to support for new aircraft and the Helionix avionics system (now incorporated in the EC175 and EC145 T2), training and operations, helicopter upgrades, and e-services such as the Keycopter® customer portal. Airbus Helicopters’ Heli-Expo 2014 exhibit stand will be located in Hall A, Booth 523 in the Anaheim Convention Center during the February 25-27 event. Follow all of Airbus Helicopters’ activities at this major helicopter industry gathering, including daily announcements and feature stories, by visiting the dedicated website at: http://events. airbushelicopters.com
British company Sure Wind Marine Ltd. has taken delivery of its second Damen Twin Axe Fast Crew Supplier – the Sure Swift - in a little over a month after the first joined the company’s fleet. presence. Customers want these vessels.” The Sure Shamal will have been working at the Barrow Offshore Wind Farm from October 2013 to end-March this year, before heading off for her next job in April.
Sure Wind also owns the first FCS 2610 ever built – the pioneering ‘Shamal’ (renamed Sure Shamal) which it acquired in July 2013.
Sure Star and Sure Swift will be based in Eemshaven before being deployed in the German offshore wind market but again, the Sure Star has pretty much had non-stop work since joining Sure Wind’s fleet.
The Damen vessels have certainly proven themselves and are hugely popular with customers, says Lucy Kibler, Sure Wind Vessel Operations Coordinator. “Enquiries are unbelievable, Damen has really set the standard for a crew transfer vessel. The Twin Axe is in a different league in terms of seakeeping and crew comfort.” New standard in crew transfer “We aim to be the preferred crew transport vessel company and Damen helps give us the market
“One of the advantages of the vessels is that they are excellent sea keeping vessels even in the winter months, and still maintain their passenger comfort ,” she adds. “Sure Wind does not rule out the addition of more Damen vessels in the future. The company has exciting expansion plans, which would involve an extensive fleet expansion. We can see more Damen vessels on the horizon.”
