Fairmount Marine towed pipelayvessel Castoro Sei to Rotterdam Tug Fairmount Glacier has towed pipelay-vessel Castoro Sei to Rotterdam,the Netherlands, from where the vessel will start her seasonal activities on the North Sea. The Fairmount Glacier hooked-up with Castoro Sei in Genoa, Italy. The Castoro Sei is a 28,000 ton DWT 152 meters long semi-submersible pipelay-vessel operated by Italian Saipem. For her towage from Genoa towards Rotterdam the Fairmount Glacier was mobilized from Las Palmas. The convoy reached Gibraltar within six days. For the next part of the voyage, including the passage of the English Channel, the Fairmount Glacier was assisted by tug Salviceroy. Despite

the bad weather encountered offshore Portugal on the Atlantic, the convoy made progress and continued towards its destination. Upon arrival Rotterdam the Castoro Sei was towed inside and safely moored. Fairmount Marine is a marine contractor for ocean towage and heavy lift transportation, headquartered in Rotterdam, the Netherlands.Fairmount’s fleet of tugs consists of five modern super tugs of 205 tons bollard pull each, especially designed for long distance towing, a multipurpose support vessel and a large submersible transport barge. Fairmount Marine is part of Royal Boskalis Westminster.

Paradigm Flow Services to showcase blockage technology at NOG 2014

Een bevrachtingsovereenkomst tussen het snel groeiende DeepOcean (gespecialiseerd in werkzaamheden onder water) en Maersk Supply Service was de aanleiding voor de order van een Damen Offshore Carrier DOC 8500. Dit is de tweede order voor dit nieuwe scheepsontwerp van de Damen Shipyards Group.

Innovations improve safety and boost production in West Africa

Paradigm Flow Services, the blockage remediation specialist for the oil and gas sector, is sharing its expertise in production optimisation and asset integrity at Nigeria Oil & Gas (NOG) 2014 this week. The company, which has developed technology for the integrity management of deluge systems and flow assurance through offshore blockage removal, is exhibiting at this key event for the region from 17-20 March. Rob Bain, managing director of Paradigm Flow Services said: “In West Africa, operators face integrity issues in both subsea and topsides systems. Working in these deepwater fields poses maintenance problems which are made more challenging by the remote location of the blockages from the host platform, and access to the pipelines and the subsea infrastructure. “Ageing of assets also raises issues in this mature oil province and safeguarding the integrity of the platforms is a priority. We have developed a number of technologies to address these pitfalls and help oil and gas companies continue safe and efficient operations. We have delivered a number of successful projects in West Africa and are working with operators in the region who are experiencing increasing challenges.” As well as subsea blockage removal using Pipe-Pulse and

the company’s innovative Deluge System Integrity Assurance programme, Paradigm Flow Services has also recently launched a Subsea Umbilical Flushing Unit (SUFU) which eliminates environmental issues and reduces cost for operators. These services have been complimented by the development of Flexi-Coil Extended Reach, groundbreaking technology that has taken riser and flowline blockage remediation and internal inspection to new lengths. Flexi-Coil Extended Reach has been proven in tests up to 2,000m. As the technology continues to be enhanced, Paradigm is positive of its potential to tackle more than double that distance to 4,000m. The firm is currently undertaking major projects with an international operator in West Africa.

Met de DOC 8500 krijgt DeepOcean meer armslag op de markt voor het leggen van lange kabels. Hiermee richt DeepOcean zich naast haar bestaande activiteiten op het gebied van de olieen gasindustrie en duurzame energie nadrukkelijker op interconnectorprojecten. Het speciaal uitgeruste schip wordt geleverd vanaf de Damen Galatiwerf in Roemenië. De DOC 8500 wordt eigendom van Maersk Supply Service en wordt ook door haar geëxploiteerd. Het is daarmee de jongste aanwinst in de ruim 60 hulpschepen tellende offshore-vloot van Maersk. René Berkvens, Chief Executive Officer van Damen Shipyards Group: “Wij zijn bijzonder trots dat Maersk Supply Service en DeepOcean ons de order hebben gegeven voor dit kabellegschip. Wij geloven echt in dit nieuwe ontwerp, dat het resultaat is van jarenlang R&D-onderzoek. Omdat het gaat om een flexibel concept, kunnen wij het schip voor klanten in tal van opzichten zodanig aanpassen dat dit voldoet aan het specifieke doel waarvoor de klant het nodig heeft. Het veelzijdige nieuwe schip is dankzij zijn carrousel van 7000 ton geschikt voor installatie- en graafprojecten vanaf de aanlanding tot in diep water, ook op afgelegen locaties. “Het schip is zodanig ontworpen dat het voldoet aan de hoge eisen van de olieen gasbedrijven die actief zijn op de Noordzee. We zijn blij dat dit schip, dat we samen met Maersk Supply Service en Damen op de markt brengen, ons zo veel nieuwe mogelijkheden biedt.”

Flexibel platform Remko Bouma van Damen Shipyards Bergum, die de leiding heeft over de bouw van het schip, beschrijft de DOC 8500 als een semi-maatwerkschip volgens modulair concept. Voor DeepOcean is dit schip zodanig aangepast dat er 90 man personeel kan worden ondergebracht, voor het grootste deel in eenpersoonshutten. “De DOC 8500 is ontwikkeld als een flexibel platform voor transport en offshoreinstallatiewerkzaamheden”, aldus Remko Bouma. “Met zijn speciale boegontwerp en slanke romp zijn de vaareigenschappen ook bij ruw weer optimaal en heeft het schip weinig last van slamming. Het schip vaart zowel op MGO als HFO, en heeft DP2-eigenschappen die zijn afgestemd op de eisen van de offshore-markt. Doordat het een grote bovendekse kabelcapaciteit heeft, is het zeer concurrerend als kabellegschip. Tegelijkertijd is het geoptimaliseerd voor ondiep water, onder andere dankzij het 7-puntsankersysteem. De DOC 8500 heeft met zijn 138 m lengte en 27,5 m breedte 2.200 m2 open dek beschikbaar met een laadcapaciteit van 20 T/m2 en roro-mogelijkheid. Met een maximaal draagvermogen van 9.300 ton haalt het schip een snelheid van 12 knopen.

Het gebruik van hijskranen is gebonden aan specifieke weten regelgeving. Onderhoud wordt gepland o.b.v. het planningssysteem. RAMCO TUBULAR SERVICES First Twin Axe delivery for Njord Offshore ACQUIRES PIPETECH Aberdeen-based Ramco Tubular Services has strengthened its position as the oil and gas sector’s leading provider of tubular services, by acquiring a controlling interest in Norwegian-based Pipetech International AS. Pipetech is a leading player in the provision of advanced and environmentally friendly waterbased cleaning technologies to the North Sea oil and gas and petrochemical industries. The company has a suite of highpressure water technologies that remove scale and debris from pipelines safely and without the need for environmentally harmful chemicals. The technologies, Aqua Sonic and Aqua Milling are operated remotely which also greatly enhances safety and means the pipework can be cleaned in position. This, coupled with the capability to reach down to 500 metres from a single entry point, hugely reduces setup requirements and down time.

Pipetech will now establish a permanent presence in the UK and look to increase its business in the offshore sector. In addition to the Pipetech investment, Ramco has also announced the appointment of Lindsay Young as its international business development director. As well as helping further internationalise Ramco’s business, Lindsay will also be responsible for driving the growth of Pipetech in the UK. Lindsay has extensive knowledge of the oil and gas sector through previous roles as managing director of Offshore Solutions BV and UK operations director for RBG. He will work closely with May Britt Lilletvedt the CEO of Pipetech International AS. Both Lindsay and May Britt will join the Ramco Board. DNV GL awarded major verification services contract with Apache The new contract, which has a primary term of three years, and two one year extension options, involves operations and project verification for all Apache’s North Sea assets; Beryl A & B and Forties A, B, C, D & E. DNV GL has had a long history on the Beryl Alpha and Bravo installations, which have been operated by Apache since January 2012, delivering both the Safety Case and the former Certificate of Fitness regimes. With the new contract in place, DNV GL offers a range of verification services to Apache, including Risk-based verification (RBV) with the ultimate aim to ensure that field developments are designed, constructed and installed in accordance with project objectives. RBV is a structured, systematic process using risk and cost-benefit analysis to strike a balance both between technical and operational issues and between safety and cost. This provides the ability to focus the verification effort where the contribution is most costeffective and provides the required assurance towards stakeholders and regulatory authorities that projects are implemented right the first time. Triple contract boost for XPD8 Solutions Asset integrity management specialist XPD8 Solutions has secured contracts worth a combined £4million for work in the North Sea and Africa and boosted its senior management team. The Aberdeen-based company has added contracts to its order book for condition monitoring services, taking it through to March 2019, for Wood Group, on behalf of Dana Petroleum, and Apache on the UK Continental Shelf and with a further operator in Equatorial Guinea. In addition, the company has promoted Gordon Ellis, who leads the condition monitoring department, to the position of operations director. He previously held the role of condition monitoring manager XPD8 is recognised as a leader in maintenance engineering, condition monitoring and integrity services for the oil & gas sector. The company’s international reach has grown over the past 12 months to cover Europe, South East Asia and Africa. As a result of the increased workload XPD8 will create a further

five posts within its condition monitoring department over the next 12 months. With more than 20 years industry experience, Mr Ellis joined the company during 2005 the same year that the condition monitoring department was formed. The department, which currently has 20 members of staff, implements programmes that record the age and state of apparatus to improve reliability, prolong equipment life and minimise the risk of failure.

VECTOR BIEDT MEDEWERKERS UNIEKE KANSEN Vector Maintenance Management in Den Helder is gespecialiseerd in het ontwikkelen van onderhoudsen inspectiemanagementsystemen en onderhoudsstrategieën die inspectie- en onderhoudsprocessen beheersbaar maken. Dit betekent tegelijkertijd dat Vector M.M. een kennisinstituut is. Want om bestaande procedures en systemen te kunnen doorgronden en er vervolgens mee te gaan ‘stoeien’ om ze te verbeteren, aan te passen of zelfs helemaal om te gooien voor meer efficiëntie en lagere kosten danwel betere kostenbeheersing, heb je veel kennis nodig. Die kennis hebben de medewerkers van Vector M.M. en dat bewijzen de twee broers Bart en Bouke van Jaarsveld. Bart van Jaarsveld bijvoorbeeld is HBO afgestudeerd in chemische technologie maar niet met betrekking tot olie-, gas- en windenergie. Toch kwam hij na enkele omzwervingen in andere bedrijfstakken in de offshoresector terecht toen hij in aanraking kwam met Vector Maintenance Management. “Iedereen moet hier kennis hebben van de basisstructuur van onderhoudsmethoden en – processen én de implementatie daarvan in het ERP systeem van de klant. Bij het ontwikkelen van een onderhouds- of inspectiestrategie loop je tegen zaken aan die naast ‘slim plannen’ specialisme vereisen en dat zijn verschillende disciplines, in technische vakgebieden, in wetgeving of in vaardigheden in diverse software”, vertelt hij. Die hele filosofie spreekt hem enorm aan. Daarom biedt het bedrijf uitgebreide mogelijkheden om aanvullende kennis te vergaren via zowel opleidingen aan (andere) hogescholen als via specialistische cursussen. “Tot en met cursussen in de Verenigde Staten”, knikt hij. Er aan toevoegend dat hij binnenkort

voor zo’n specialistische cursus vertrekt naar de USA. “Ik ben bezig mij te specialiseren tot corrosie engineer”, legt hij uit. Een taak die in de offshorewereld van groot belang is doordat alle installaties - platforms, schepen - voortdurend bloot staan aan de verwoestende inbreng van de maritieme omgeving. “Maar ook binnen de muren van een installatie en de scheepshuid lopen de installaties en machines risico op aantasting door corrosie”, weet hij. Dus is het voor zowel Vector M.M. als voor de opdrachtgevende maatschappijen van groot belang dat er deskundigen zijn in dergelijke vakgebieden.

Uit de feedback die hij vanuit het werkveld krijgt, blijkt dat deze tekeningen - veelal ook voorzien van een detailfoto zodat men in één oogopslag ziet welk apparaat of onderdeel het

betreft - buitengewoon goed in een behoefte voorzien. En ook laat men Bouke weten welke aanpassingen een bepaalde tekening of een detail daarvan nog behoeft. “Op die manier werken we als één team samen aan de verdere optimalisatie van de informatie die men offshore nodig heeft”, besluit hij. Met de aantekening dat dit alles eigenlijk alleen maar mogelijk is doordat het management van Vector haar medewerkers de kans geeft dergelijke initiatieven te ontwikkelen en te ontplooien.

Feedback vanuit het werkveld Bart’s broer Bouke van Jaarsveld heeft instemmend zitten luisteren. Hij is kort na Bart bij Vector aangetreden als deskundige op het gebied van werkvoorbereiding en inspecties. Niet zozeer om die zelf uit te voeren - hij is tot bouwkundige opgeleid en heeft vanuit die hoek heel veel werk verricht als werkvoorbereider én als constructeur - maar om met die kennis de inspectie-, onderhoudsen reparatieteams bij te staan die offshore aan het

Het gaat Marotechniek voor de wind! Marotechniek is op vele fronten actief bij het installeren van offshore windmolenpark projecten. Het Zutphens bedrijf heeft op dit moment 3 projecten in opdracht welke allen gerelateerd zijn aan de installatie van offshore windmolenparken; Voor Ballast Nedam Offshore zijn 4 stuks 60 ton hydraulische verhaallieren met CT-functie geleverd, voor het positioneren van een NMS-systeem aan boord van de HLV “Swanen.” Met deze equipment gaat Ballast Nedam Offshore 80 fundatiepalen voor windmolens in de zeebodem hijen, ter hoogte van Denemarken voor het windmolenpark, project Butendiek. Voor het plaatsen van offshore windmolen masten, heeft Marotechniek een 75 ton hijslier en

tuggerlier in opdracht, welke een enorme constructie van verticalenaar horizontale positie beweegt en vice versa. Met deze grijper-constructie worden de windmolen masten op positie gehouden voor montage op de fundatie. Dit geheel wordt gemonteerd op een offshore wind farm transport and installation vessel. In nauwe samenwerking met onze Duitse offshore relatie zijn 16 stuks hydraulische 8 ton hijslieren met load monitoring en data logging tot stand gekomen. Met deze lieren worden elektra kabels van de zeebodem ingevoerd in de offshore windmolens, waarbij de trekkracht nauwkeurig gemonitord moet worden om beschadiging van de elektra kabel tegen te gaan.

CARRIÈREBEURS VOOR SCHOLIEREN EN STUDENTEN Onder de noemer ‘Carrières aan Zee’ wordt donderdag 27 maart van 10 tot 19 uur in Den Helder een bijzonder voorlichtingsevenement georganiseerd voor VMBO/MBO/ HAVO/VWO-scholieren en HBOstudenten. Hierbij worden hun carrièrekansen gepresenteerd in met name de sectoren maritieme techniek en olie&gas en windenergie offshore. De organisatie van het voorlichtingsevenement is in handen van Maritime Campus Netherlands (MCN) en Skills Netherlands. Jongeren wordt getoond welke beroepsrichtingen er in voornoemde sectoren zijn, wat deze voor banen opleveren en welke opleidingen hiervoor kunnen worden gevolgd. En de organisatoren willen de

jongeren kennis laten maken met de mooie kansen die met name de regio Noord-Holland op deze gebieden biedt. Hiervoor is samen met het offshore- en maritieme bedrijfsleven, de opleidingsinstituten, de Koninklijke Marine en het Marinebedrijf een informatief en educatief evenement georganiseerd.

In Gebouw 66 op het Willemsoordcomplex bieden de exposanten de bezoekers een interactief activiteitenprogramma aan, waarmee de betrokken branche of opleiding zo levensecht mogelijk kan worden ervaren. Hierbij kan het onder andere gaan om laswerk, de aanleg van elektronische systemen, simulaties van getijdenbewegingen, games en demo’s van energiebronnen. Met andere woorden: ‘zien, doen

Tata Steel sees strong 2014 for offshore pipe demand The European outlook for the offshore pipe industry in 2014 is positive, according to a recent report conducted by Tata Steel, which supplies deepwater pipeline solutions.

Petrobras starts 7th round of OSV Fleet Renewal Plan Petrobras President Maria das Graças Silva Foster and Director of Exploration and Production José Formigli announced the start of the seventh round of the Fleet Renewal Plan for Offshore Support Vessels (Prorefam). Contracts were also signed for the fifth round of the program. Formigli said that calls for bids for the sventh and final round will be issued by March 21, and that proposals must be submitted to Petrobras by June 27. Contract signing is scheduled for Oct. 30. Speaking about Petrobras’ expectations for the round, the director reinforced the importance of the Brazilian industry setting competitive prices. “The expectation is to sign these contracts on a competitive basis, and this is very important, Formigli said. “We are always comparing Brazilian prices with foreign ones,

and we are definitely not willing to sign contracts if there is a significant difference.” The director presented the program’s scope, which includes a total of up to 146 vessels over seven rounds between 2008 and 2014. The minimum local construction content varies between 50% and 60%, depending on the type of vessel, and is 70% for the offshore operations phase. “At this point, we have managed to sign contracts for 87 of 146 vessels,” stated Formigli, who added that, of these 87 vessels, 61 are under construction and 26 are operating. Contracts were signed with Bram Offshore Transportes Maritimos Ltda, Norskan Offshore Ltda, and Starnav Serviços Marítimos Ltda. for eight vessels from the fifth round call. Contracts were signed for 13

vessels in the first round, 27 in the second, 16 in the third, 23 in the fourth, and eight in the last round. Of these, 76 vessels are platform supply vessels (PSVs) used for loading platforms with liquid and solid loads, and oil-spill response vessels (OSRVs) designed for recovering oil offshore. Eleven are anchor handling tug supply (AHTS) vessels that are built to handle anchors, tow-vessels, and transport supplies. Out of the fleet of offshore support vessels working with Petrobras, 53% are Brazilian. Construction timeframes are three years from the time of contract execution for PSVs and OSRVs, and four years for AHTSs. Contracts are valid for up to eight years. Minimum local construction content is 60% for PSVs and OSRVs, and 50% for AHTS vessels. For vessel operations, minimum local content is 70%.
