COLLISION BACK IN FACE-TO-FACE FORMAT LUIS BARROCA MONTEIRO CEO FINY VENTURES
T
he Collision, sister event of the Web Summit, by Paddy Cosgrave, took place in Toronto between June 20th and 23rd. One of the highlights of this year was its return to face-to-face meetings, after two years in which it took place virtually, due to the covid-19 pandemic. The other highlight was the number of participants, which, according to the Organization, grew by 40% compared to the last in-person edition, which took place in 2019. Just to give you an idea, the event had more than 33 thousand people, more than 1250 startups, 900 speakers, 1200 journalists, 850 investors and 100 unicorns from more than 140 countries. This event, which is a fantastic gateway to the North American market, was attended by around 40 Portuguese startups, who for three days were able to interact with ideas and people from all over the world. Furthermore, for the first time, there was an exclusive event for the Portuguese delegation and its partners on the North American continent, including investors, incubators, universities and others, in order to leverage potential transatlantic synergies between the Portuguese and Canadian communities. . And if we compare with our sister country, where only one Brazilian speaker was present, a speaker who has lived in the US for years, and no startup, then we can see that the entrepreneurial ecosystem in Lusophony is a success.

António Godinho
“THE ENTREPRENEURIAL VEIN ALREADY BEGAN TO PULSE AS A CHILD”
“S
omeone with an entrepreneurial spirit who is passionate about business and people”, this is how António Godinho describes himself. With decades of experience leading companies, he´s looking for exciting projects to invest in. Linked to the Euronext Stock Exchange, but is also president of SAD at SC Salgueiros. Get to know a little more about António Godinho...
FIRST, TELL US A LITTLE ABOUT YOURSELF: WHO IS ANTÓNIO GODINHO PERSONALLY? AG: It’s not easy to define
J U LY 2 0 2 2
ourselves. Maybe just in one sentence: I am someone with an entrepreneurial spirit who is passionate about business and people.
YOU HAVE A DEGREE IN BUSINESS MANAGEMENT AND ADVANCED TRAINING IN CORPORATE & PROJECT FINANCE AND MARKETING. WHY WAS THE REASON OF THIS CHOICE? AG: Because I’m passionate about business and business systems. Business management came naturally to me because of this appeal for entrepreneurship. The remaining choices are natural and complementary to the basic training.
YOUR CAREER HAS BEEN LINKED TO THE BANKING AREA, NAMELY AT BANCO MONTEPIO, A MUTUAL BANK, DIFFERENT FROM THE OTHERS. HOW WAS THAT EXPERIENCE? AG: It was my first job and it was a fantastic experience. I got to know the banking activity and the mutual universe. I was lucky enough to join Montepio at a stage of growth in its activity and it was really challenging and a very enriching experience from a professional but also a personal point of view. As you rightly say, it is a different institution from the others not only because it has a mutualist action logic, but because it has a set of
7
people and staff that are distinguished by their values.
YOU WERE CO-FOUNDER & CEO AND DIRECTOR OF SEVERAL COMPANIES, SUCH AS GRUPO ONEBIZ, NBBMERGERS & ACQUISITIONS, GE CAPITAL, ACCIVE - CORRETOR DE SEGUROS, MDS (SONAE) AND SARTORIAL-SOCIEDADE FINANCEIRA DE CORRETAGEM. WHAT DID YOU GET OUT OF THESE EXPERIENCES? AG: It was a very enriching experience in all respects and that largely goes beyond the professional aspect of the different experiences inherent in the financial area. It was, above all, an opportunity to work with extraordinary people from a personal and professional point of view and to expand some businesses internationally to other geographies. This challenge of internationalization is perhaps the most striking fact of all the experiences.

company. I believe that the entrepreneurial vein already began to pulse as a child. Therefore, saying goodbye to Montepio was the corollary of building my path at a business level, responding to that entrepreneurial desire.
YOU ARE LISTING SPONSOR EURONEXT STOCK EXCHANGE. HOW DID THIS CONNECTION COME ABOUT IN YOUR LIFE? AG: Through a company I co-founded, NBB, which was dedicated to consulting on company acquisitions and mergers. This company was present in 22 countries. One of the services was the search for alternative sources of financing for the growth of companies. Naturally, the capital market is one of the ways and hence the link to the Euronext Stock Exchange.
HOW DOES ENTREPRENEURSHIP APPEAR IN YOUR LIFE?
AS A BUSINESS ANGEL, WHAT KIND OF BUSINESS ARE YOU LOOKING FOR? WHAT IS YOUR INVOLVEMENT IN STARTUPS?
AG: It came very early. When I was studying, I already thought about having a
AG: I’m looking for exciting deals not only from the point of view of the market and
its potential profitability, but above all because of the quality of the people, that is, the promoters involved.
FEW KNOW ANOTHER ASPECT: YOU ARE PRESIDENT OF THE SAD OF SPORT COMÉRCIO E SALGUEIROS, WHICH PLAYS IN THE PORTUGUESE CHAMPIONSHIP. HOW DID FOOTBALL COME INTO YOUR LIFE? AG: Almost by chance, as a consultant I became a shareholder in a SAD, Leixões in the case. After supporting its restructuring, I ended up selling it. Soon after, the opportunity arose to do the same with another historic brand in Porto... And here we are on this path of putting Salgueiros in the place it deserves. INTERVIEW
BLANCA SILVA:
“To be an ambassador not only for a style of coffee, but for a nation”
B
lanca Silva, Nena to family and friends, is a Colombian living in Portugal for over 30 years. She is passionate about everything she does, and after a career spanning more than three decades in the printing industry, she changed her life and dedicated herself to coffee. Adventurous by nature, she decided to show her country to the world through her coffee: Nena Selected Coffee. Her dream? Create in everyone who tastes their coffee, “the crazy desire to visit Colombia”.
FIRST, TELL US A LITTLE ABOUT YOURSELF: WHO IS BLANCA ELENA AVENDAÑO SILVA? I am from Colombia, and I have lived in Portugal for over 30 years, mother of 3
10
children born in Portugal and I am very grateful and happy to live in this country. I love Portugal. I am an adventurous, fearless, passionate woman, capable of facing the various challenges and difficulties of life, with a lot of faith in God and hope that a better day will always come. That’s how I was raised by my Parents, my great mentors, inspirers and friends to this day. Just like my children, they are the fundamental reason to move on, leave a legacy, and be hardworking and honest in everything I do! I have a high sense of love for others and I try to help, whenever I can, those who need me. Therefore, I have always been passionate about causes and missions
of a humanitarian scope or in which I find purpose and meaning. That’s where my strength and resilience comes from, believing that we can be part of the solution and not the problem. My life in Portugal began in Praia da Rocha where I spent a year in various jobs, from working for a restaurant dedicated to sardines, playing basketball for the Portimonense team and working as a freelance graphic designer for Aero Algarve, where I did the advertising sleeves that the plane promoted on the beaches. After that year in the Algarve, I moved to Lisbon, where I have stayed ever since.

YOU HAVE A DEGREE IN GRAPHIC DESIGN, AND HAVE BEEN LINKED TO DECO PROTESTE FOR ALMOST 30 YEARS. HOW WAS THAT EXPERIENCE? Fabulous!! I can only thank DECO Proteste for believing in me and giving me constant new challenges and opportunities. During this period, I created the Department of National Production, I was responsible for the local area and I took on a position within the Multinational to which Deco Proteste belongs. DECO was, without a doubt, a great school, where I managed to develop 5 languages, manage multicultural teams, travel and build a fabulous network of contacts. Today, I recognize that I take the benefit of that construction, the result of my complete dedication and commitment throughout my journey at Deco Proteste.
IN 2021, YOU COMPLETELY CHANGED YOUR AREA, AND ENTERED THE WORLD OF COFFEE, AT CAFÉ PRIMITIVO. WHAT ATTRACTED YOU? After 30 years in the graphic arts world, I understood that I could explore something that, deep down, met my
12
roots, culture, purpose and vision of the future. Primitivo was looking for a person capable of representing them in Europe and within the context we were experiencing in the company I understood that he was the most suitable for me.
MONTHS LATER, YOU FOUNDED NENA SELECTED COFFEE. WHAT LED YOU TO MAKE THIS DECISION? Effectively, Primitivo was and is for me the starting point of my coffee journey. I greatly admire its CEO, a woman passionate about the coffee world, innovative and principled. We both have the same vision of life and business, but her core business is green coffee. I noticed that this market was already very saturated here in Europe and I decided to launch, create my own brand, with other coffee profiles and a slightly different market niche.
WHAT DOES NENA SELECTED COFFEE CONSIST OF? WHAT IS YOUR GOAL? Nena Selected Coffee is a company that also aims to be a Life Style. My goal is to make known the particularities and benefits of a 100% Arabica coffee, clean, with fruit notes and floral aromas that elevate the feeling of traveling to a world of incredible natural wealth. I believe that through this coffee I will be able to show Portugal and Europe the beauty of the Colombian Andes, its culture and richness and also clean up the image we have of a Colombia devastated by drugs. That’s why I’m talking about a coffee with purpose. A cup of good coffee here, a happy family there.
NENA’S COFFEE IS ECO-FRIENDLY. WHAT DOES THIS DESIGNATION CONSIST OF? Basically it has to do with not using pesticides, chemicals, ON STARTUPS MAGAZINE
etc. Colombia has developed very good and natural methods of fertilizing the land and fighting pests through organic composting methods that have been tried for many years. Promoting the growth of plants and the production of excellent coffee, through different stimulations, which occur not only in this product, but also in the banana trees that surround them, in the avocado pear, in the flowers, etc… And it’s these coffees we’re talking about when we talk about Café “Nena Selected Coffee”.
THE BRAND HAS 5 VARIETIES OF ARABICA COFFEE FROM COLOMBIA. DO YOU INTEND TO KEEP THESE VARIETIES, OR DO YOU INTEND TO EXPAND THE BRAND’S VARIETIES IN THE FUTURE? Yes, my goal, and as the name implies, Nena Selected Coffee, will be to grow within Colombia. In Colombia alone, we have 42 departments, of which 36 are dedicated to coffee cultivation, so I still have a lot to explore. Besides, Colombia is my homeland and I intend to make its richnesses known. Going forward, I intend to J U LY 2 0 2 2
explore other geographies, always maintaining the same premises and guarantees that the coffee is high quality, and that in the production chain there is respect for farmers, their families and the environment.
WE KNOW THAT BLANCA HAS BEEN INVESTING IN HER TRAINING, NAMELY THROUGH SOME COURSES AT ACADEMIA DO CAFÉ. CAN YOU EXPLAIN BETTER WHAT THEY CONSIST OF? Academia do Café is a specialized training and consultancy company that offers “tailor-made” training courses on coffee. I have already taken the Sensory course - which gives me the ability to taste and discover the coffee’s main notes, give a score, make a good choice, etc., and I am currently finishing the De Brewing course, dedicated to different ways of extracting the coffee correctly and being able to advise my customers so that they get the best out of their purchase. These courses not only help me to offer a better service and high quality products, but they also give me the confidence and credibility I need when I give lectures or workshops. Above
13
all, thanks to Academia de Café I have developed the technique of preparing coffee, tasting it, talking about it, and even teaching about this wonderful product, so unknown to most people.
WHAT ARE BLANCA’S UPCOMING EVENTS IN WHERE CAN WE FIND YOUR COFFEE? The next event will be from the 23rd to the 25th of September, also at the Vila de Cascais market. It will be an event organized by Casa da América Latina, where several Latin American countries will participate and I will have a stand representing my coffee.
WHAT GOALS DO YOU INTEND TO ACHIEVE IN THE FUTURE? I would like Nena Selected Coffee, in addition to selling high quality coffee, to be a school, a culture of respect and love for others and for the Planet. In the end, we are not the ones who sustain the planet, it is the planet that sustains us and for that reason we must take care of it. In this way, I intend that by drinking good coffee, we can learn about the entire value chain, and get to know

the landscapes, people and cultures that surround it. I would like to impregnate Europe with an aroma of love and well-being, to be able to influence my clients and friends so that they get back their desire to return to the conquering Portugal, land of Navegadores, but this time to navigate the flavors and aromas of a coffee undoubtedly exceptional. To make a strong and commercial alliance between Portugal and Colombia, with doors open to Europe and the world. To be an ambassador not only for a style of coffee,
but for a nation. I can only thank you for this opportunity, and here is my commitment: to create in you the crazy desire to visit Colombia!! Beautiful land, full of music, flavor, landscapes, flowers, colors, birds, waterfalls and much more!! And, of course, to introduce you to the best coffee in the world! When you enter a Coffee Nena, where the protagonist is the 100% Arabica Coffee, you will undoubtedly want to book your next vacation in Colombia!! Here’s the challenge! ON STARTUPS MAGAZINE

ÁLVARO CARDOSO
“Multiculturalism is omnipresent. Which enriches each and every experience.”
Á
lvaro Cardoso studied Law, but his dream was to see the world. He soon left Portugal and traveled to several countries, where he had remarkable and unforgettable experiences. He has lived in Dubai for 11 years, where he took advantage of the sea to do two of his passions, kitesurfing and swimming in the open sea, while having the opportunity to live with different nationalities and learn from different cultures. But it was his passion for nature and sport that led him to create the startup UPNDO, which aims to combat sedentary lifestyle and support NGOs at a global level.
J U LY 2 0 2 2
FIRST, TELL US A LITTLE ABOUT YOURSELF: WHO IS ÁLVARO CARDOSO PERSONALLY? I was born in Lisbon, lived in Cascais, so I always had a special connection to the sea and the Atlantic Ocean. I studied Law, but always with the desire to make an international career and experience several countries, so after the course I started to work in a global company, where I was about 14 years, in various positions, in Portugal, Europe and finally in the Middle East. Living in London, in a giant city, was an incredible experience, we feel that we live in the center of the world, everything relevant in the arts, culture, politics, business passes through
London. In England, the connection to nature is immense, with numerous parks spread across London and across the country. We ended up having a lot of unforgettable adventures, such as doing the 3 peaks challenge, climbing the 3 highest mountains in one day (24 hours), and the 3 mountains are in 3 different countries (Scotland, England and Wales) that is, 24 hours driving the car (1600km) or climbing the mountains.
YOU DON’T LIVE IN PORTUGAL, BUT IN THE UNITED ARAB EMIRATES. HOW IS THIS EXPERIENCE? I left Portugal about 15 years ago, the last 11 of which I live in Dubai. It was an incredible discovery, I never expected
17
to fall in love with a place so much. Dubai has great and present diversity, a dinner or a business meeting with 5 people means 5 absolutely different nationalities, a person from Nigeria, a Japanese, a Greek and a Filipino... Multiculturalism is omnipresent. Which enriches each and every experience. Another aspect that I love about Dubai is the variety of options: on the one hand we have the best restaurants in the world, the headquarters of the biggest companies; but on the other hand we have beaches with a fantastic sea (which for me is very important because I do kitesurfing and swimming in the open sea), we have desert
18
for adventures and safaris. We have conditions to do sports like nowhere else in the world, the place where I ride a bike is 150 km of perfect track in the middle of the desert... The geographical location and the ease of flying anywhere is also very important, I am 6 hours from Lisbon, on the other hand I am 2 hours from India, Sri Lanka, Maldives, Kenya, Tanzania, Iran, Lebanon. We have made the most of this proximity, from going for a marathon to Teran (Iran), kitesurfing to
Kenya or Tanzania, skiing to Lebanon. I didn’t want to forget to mention the discovery of the Arab and Muslim culture, so close in the social habits of Portugal and the Mediterranean countries. Ingrained family values. Valuing personal relationships, unlike the Nordic countries or the United Kingdom where everything is a little colder. Living this multicultural reality has a direct impact on UPNDO because our team, which is totally remote, has people from Poland, Slovakia and Portugal, which gives us a much more global and richer vision.
ON STARTUPS MAGAZINE
GRADUATED IN LAW AND WITH A SPECIALIZATION IN HEALTH LAW, YOU STARTED WORKING IN THE HEALTH AREA AT JOHNSON & JOHNSON, WHERE YOU SPENT ABOUT 13 YEARS. HOW WAS THAT EXPERIENCE? WHAT DID YOU LIKE BEST? Working at Johnson gave me the opportunity to make an international career. Being a company and a brand with immense history, it was a very rich experience. One of the things I liked the most was certainly the possibility of working in several countries from Portugal, Spain, United Kingdom, Sweden, Denmark, Middle East. One of the aspects that impressed me was the strength of Johnson & Johnson’s company culture. J U LY 2 0 2 2
SO YOU DECIDED TO CREATE UPNDO IN 2018. WHAT LED YOU TO THIS DECISION? I saw that more and more people are concerned about their health, a sedentary lifestyle at work is a very important factor for companies, which affects productivity… it is the biggest cause of absenteeism! We also want to buy, work and connect with brands and companies with a social purpose, with a positive impact on our community. So, knowing from experience that physical movement is important, I saw an immense opportunity in bringing these two elements together, physical movement rewarded with
the possibility of helping our community. In terms of corporate well-being, we are talking about a market of around US$4 billion worldwide, and in corporate responsibility the scale is even greater: around US$80 billion. I saw an opportunity to combine two of my passions and do something with an impact on the world. Combat sedentary lifestyle and support NGOs at a global level. The decision was quick and became a mission. As a founder, I want UPNDO to be an inclusive platform where companies, individuals and NGOs work together for positive transformation.
WHAT DOES UPNDO CONSIST OF? WHAT IS YOUR GOAL? WHAT DO YOU WANT TO ACHIEVE? The concept is simple, we convert human energy into positive social impact, that is, promoting and encouraging people to be healthier through physical movement (the World Health Organization says that to be healthy adults we have to move about 30 to 45 minutes per day). On the other hand, to involve more and more companies with
19
the community, creating more efficient ways in which Corporate Social Responsibility budgets are better used. UPNDO is an innovative way to — Fight sedentary lifestyle; — Promoting a culture and spirit of community; — and give recognition to the Social Impact of companies. Our main objective is to combat sedentary lifestyle and promote the mission of the various NGOs at a global level that we support together with companies and thousands of people who are part of the UPNDO community. In terms of future vision, we want to grow in the European market and continue to expand this healthy and positive movement.
YOU ARE A KITESURFER AND A TRIATHLETE. DID THAT INFLUENCE THE CREATION OF UPNDO? Yes, I’m fanatical about kitesurfing, I try to take every opportunity to go to the water. Triathlon has a more mental influence and overcoming limits, much like creating and
20
growing a technological startup, in which resilience, persistence, overcoming challenges and a focus on improving every day are critical success factors, whether run an Ironman or grow UPNDO. One of the triathlon elements that is reflected daily at UPNDO is that I use running and cycling training to learn. I always have podcasts or audio books and I take advantage of these 2 or 3 hours a day to learn, get inspired.
WHAT ADVICE DO YOU HAVE FOR THOSE WHO WANT TO OPEN THEIR STARTUP? I’m lucky to be doing something that I’m passionate about and motivates me limitlessly. Yes, the headaches, the constant challenges, are present in everyday life. But I know that my work and the work of my team have a tangible, material impact on the health of the thousands of users who use UPNDO and that we see ourselves every day moving more and more, and becoming
a little healthier, as we also see the impact of the hundreds of thousands of euros that are distributed by social organizations at a global level. The fruit of our labor results in better health and a more thriving community. My advice is: yes, we need more startups, more entrepreneurs who are passionate and have very clear goals. With strong purposes. With a big and clear purpose we can make amazing things happen. Finally, I would like to share a testimonial from one of our users: “Upndo changed my life in two ways, first it was the satisfaction of contributing to causes and NGOs that I got to know better, and through that contribution I felt an impact on my physical health because I had to become more active in order to generate more support for these causes. A very positive vicious cycle.” Receiving such feedback makes our work so much easier and more motivating.

fter Cozumel Island, in Mexico, it’s Oeiras Valley’s turn to host the “Pitch at the Beach”, the biggest investment event in America. The first edition in Europe takes place between the 2nd and the 4th of July, with the presence of thirty startups that aim to meet a group of business angels, venture capitalists, family offices and private investors, from all over the world, looking forward to get financing and closing deals. Israel Pons, co-founder of Pitch at the Beach, told NOVO how the idea came about:
22
“One day I thought: when are we most predisposed to communicate and talk to strangers? When we’re on vacation! We have a smile on our face, we talk with hotel employees, with other guests, and, almost always, this happens in places surrounded by nature or in paradise. So why not extend this concept to an event that brings together investors and entrepreneurs? Thus, the idea of Pitch at the Beach was born. It is a business, investment, but also networking event, where business angels, venture
capital, entrepreneurs and speakers participate without using facts or titles. There is only one rule: Everyone has to talk to everyone”. This event has an accumulated investment of over eight million dollars. In each event, an average of 300 startups apply, but only 30 are selected to present their projects and try to get out of there with funding. The “Pitch at the Beach” has the support of Taguspark, Oeiras county, Altice Portugal and Huawei.

Visitors to the public space have different needs and interests: they have different or limited time-frames to perform the visit, they speak different languages, or may have some visual or hearing disability. At O Gabinete we are convinced that it is of great importance to manage and deliver information and content using the technologies vastly available

for the public. Our job is to facilitate what visitors are looking for and how they want it, and reduce any frictions on the delivery of that experience. We achieve this by creating and distributing interactive content to each visitor profile with no need for downloading an app as well as providing tools to find their way around, even if there is no internet connection. Unlike an audio guide or a typical app, we provide content and wayfinding according to the visitor’s expectations, language, available time and interests. We work with different types of content: • Text and Images • Sign language
videos, Subtitles, other languages, and Audiodesciptions • Video, Audio, Augmented Reality (AR), Virtual Reality (VR) Wayfinding is not only about getting from point A to point B but showing the most significant route to that specific visitor. Our wayfinding tools include custom maps to locate relevant points of interest and an Augmented Reality function to help visitors locate themselves and find routes. Furthermore, venues obtain visitors’ data about their behaviour, route, interests, and a tool to analyse it. Árvores is our web platform that manages and delivers content in the visitor’s own

mobile, or to a touchscreen or a tablet installed onsite. It includes tools to automatically translate and produce audios in 39 languages. If there is no internet, we have a solution: BoxToLife is our low-energy IoT device for content distribution that provides a WiFi network without internet connection. Mar Fuentes has been working for museums for 25 years, and in the last 12, she has mixed technology and exhibition design to improve visitors’ experience. She founded O Gabinete in Portugal in 2019 with business partner Carlos Mondragón from their obsession with the idea of making heritage places accessible to anyone and

where people can learn and have fun. Carlos has been developing technology for culture and education for the last 15 years. He has focused mainly in designing products that are usable for different user profiles. O Gabinete has projects in Spain, Mexico, and Portugal. For Parques de Sintra in Portugal O Gabinete developed PenaQuest. PenaQuest is an interactive guide to promote and enhance the visitor experience to the Parque da Pena outdoors. It is a tour used in a gamified way using a web app, including BoxToLife devices that allow visitors to access the experience without the need for an internet
connection, and the content is in Portuguese, English, and Spanish. It holds an interactive map and an AR tool for showing directions. In 2019 O Gabinete received an award from the American Alliance of Museums in New Orleans for our project Tumba 7, in Mexico. It consisted of a digital replica of the tomb using large-format screens and augmented reality. Currently, O Gabinete is developing new projects with heritage venues such as wineries and vineyards, natural parks and historical towns. And, we are developing our new version of products for weatherproof content delivery.

ssedius.pt results from the channeling of the personal experience of labor harassment, explained in the work “Labor Harassment: When Work Aprisiona”, by Noémia Carvalho, and from her knowledge in Digital Marketing, in the construction of a safe and transparent space psychological and legal support for victims of workplace harassment. Harassment begins in the workplace, harming professional performance, but it extends to all areas of human life: it affects family, social and individual coexistence, it is a factor of serious disturbance of mental health and contaminates the legitimate “inner peace”. ”. Assedius.pt has as structural pillars of its cause, transparency, political, economic, social and religious exemption, efficiency, loyalty, respect and confidentiality of testimonies and the identity of all victims. Presenting itself as a pioneering project in Portugal, bringing together, in a single platform, all the necessary means, through professionals of excellence, to give voice to a current and increasingly significant labor, social and emotional scourge in society: 16.5 % of the population in Portugal has already suffered, at least once, during their working life, a form of

harassment at work. As you read these words, someone is harassed. The platform offers, on the one hand, an anonymous and secure vehicle for receiving complaints, and on the other hand, it is concerned with providing companies and other entities with an opportunity to improve their internal communication, creating trust and improving the working environment. , acting preventively in the fight against labor harassment. Expectations for the future focus on deepening the path we have been following: on the one hand, continuing to promote our platform as a “safe place”, never discrediting the victim, much less devaluing the relevance of their problem, and debating , with employers, preventive solutions so that they are concerned with taking on an urgent and necessary ethical and legal commitment to internally combat the various forms of labor harassment. A “victim” is never just a “victim”: it has a face, it has a name, it has rights, it has duties and it has a voice that cannot, and should not, be silenced. We want to encourage that voice to be heard and credible, within the workplace and throughout the social community.

n 2015, Forbes praised Portuguese startups, making a comparison with the entrepreneurial spirit, inherent to the Portuguese DNA, referring to the discoveries, which are one of our greatest historical marks in this civilization. According to the article published by the magazine, the nation famous for “sea voyages” had returned to discoveries. And this time, through entrepreneurship. ON STARTUPS MAGAZINE
From 2015 to now, seven years later, and after many seas sailed, we were able to witness a true wave of entrepreneurship that, inland and out to sea, raised us to levels where the most enterprising countries in the world appear. Riding on this wave, much has been debated, studied and researched on the increasingly desired gender equality, or social equivalence between the various genders. Female entrepreneurship thus gained strength and awakened a new generation of women entrepreneurs. The journey of a woman entrepreneur is arduous, as well as that of men. Entrepreneurship means taking risks and for a woman it means facing a series of obstacles, especially when it is more than demonstrated that there is still a long way to go to balance this balance of inequalities. Entrepreneurship can be understood not only as creating one’s own business / job, but also as climbing the positions in the top management of companies. We undertake to become empowered and after this J U LY 2 0 2 2
level, to be leaders. The question that is asked is: Why is it so important and why is there so much talk about female entrepreneurship? The known answer is because in the path of equality between men and women, entrepreneurship in women brings, in addition to the necessary diversity, a paradigm shift and oxygenation in the business world, contributing in a fundamental way to the generation of an entrepreneurial ecosystem. All this favors the emergence of new companies, new ideas, new ways of doing business. Allied to these ideas, softskills or behavioral skills, are extremely valued in the current market and notoriously well developed by women, we know that. Since the beginning of this decade, our generation of women entrepreneurs has faced uncontrollable adversities, first a pandemic and then a military conflict in Eastern Europe, which is causing changes and uncertainties in the international economic landscape, changes that
bring the economic crisis, food and rising unemployment. We speak within a European context, but with worldwide repercussion, which will require fast-paced actions, in economic innovations and in the restructuring of markets, especially new ways of thinking about work and business. In 2014, on November 19, the “Women’s Entrepreneurship Day” was established by the United Nations (UN). The idea is to attract worldwide attention to the economic and social impact of the movement. The leadership and political participation of women, economic empowerment, among other issues, are priority areas for the initiatives coordinated by UN Women, in order to strengthen the role of women, which we thus witness, is gaining more and more strength. Also according to the Global Entrepreneurship Monitor – “Portugal’s TEA rate has consistently shown values close to the average of innovation-oriented economies, and since 2010, this consistency was already particularly robust”, read

that TEA corresponds to Total Entrepreneurial Activity and converts the current entrepreneurial landscape into numbers. European funds have also contributed through their incentive instruments, so that these processes, which involve relevant investments, can be scaled and allow for faster and more consistent results. Portugal enters this ecosystem with our entrepreneurial fabric already well known for its innovation and more importantly, with the notorious growth of female entrepreneurship. But where are we situated in this ecosystem? Many more barometers and studies point to this growth. According to the latest edition of the Mastercard Women Entrepreneurs Index (MIWE), «Portugal is in the 22nd place in the global ranking and in the 6th place in the ranking of countries with the highest percentage of women entrepreneurs», ahead of countries like Spain , Italy or Ireland. The indicators of short-term economic projections cannot be clear
J U LY 2 0 2 2
at the moment, as we are still waiting for an economic recovery to unfold, which still suffers from many upheavals. Mastercard also mentions its goals for 2025, whose objective is to connect 25 million women entrepreneurs to the digital economy in a project aimed at young people between the ages of 8 and 16, to encourage them to pursue careers in the STEM (science, technology, engineering and mathematics), through the Girls4Tech programme, which took place this year in Portugal for the second time. Still within the scope of technology and innovation, Woman In Tech (which in Portugal is led by Cláudia Mendes Silva and Romana Ibrahim) is a global movement whose mission is to empower 5 million women and girls by 2030. A Woman in Tech is an international non-profit organization with a mission to bridge the gender gap and help women adopt technology, promoting the empowerment of girls and women around the world. These incentive programs
and initiatives are premised on the strong resilience and adaptability of women at the head of startups or the companies they lead. These skills are key factors, which can be an important driving force in the transformation and innovation of the business world. According to Jane Prokop, Global Segment Leader for Small Businesses at Mastercard, “The global economic recovery depends on resuming more sustainable and inclusive growth that empowers women entrepreneurs and supports their businesses”. This observation meets the need to address the possibilities that exist for the internationalization of entrepreneurial projects and characterize the different means of financing available in the market. There are many eyes focused on Portugal at the moment, we attract investments and major events of innovation and entrepreneurship, such as the Web Summit or even the example of the G-100 (Global Networking Meeting), held in Cascais last May and which was brought to Portugal by Linda
41
Pereira from CPL Events. The G-100 is a group of 100 women global leaders, businesswomen, political leaders, Nobel laureates and other women who inspire entrepreneurship and female empowerment in our country. Leadership, entrepreneurship and the debate on gender equality policies, as well as the position of women in the fabric that makes up the business world, were extremely important topics discussed at this global meeting, which is repeated in our country. in 2023. We still have a long way to go, in search of the absolute
success of Portuguese entrepreneurs. We are no longer in the 15th century, nor in the era of great navigations and discoveries, we do have other enormous challenges, many miles to navigate, but this time in a more technological and competitive world, with tools that we women know how to use very well. The context is not an epic poem by Virgil, but we know that being a woman and being an entrepreneur is to be daring. And as the poet said in his work “Aeneid”: “Fortis fortuna adiuvat” or luck favors the bold... And we women are bold, every day.
The G-100 is a group of 100 women global leaders, businesswomen, political leaders, Nobel laureates and other women who inspire entrepreneurship and female empowerment in our country.”

1 It is essential to have quality external consultants, namely in the accounting and legal areas. These professionals, being always important, in the startup of companies gain an even greater preponderance;
2 Focus on the elaboration of a business plan that is not just to impress investors or partners, but should be the lighthouse that guides the company on its path towards success;
3 Periodic elaboration of a written budget of the company and respective continuous control of costs and income in a logic of analysis of the company’s exploitation to correct the company’s route in time, whether in a conjunctural or even structural perspective.

TOYOTA GR86 SO T
he new GR86, a sports car designed by Toyota Gazoo Racing, will be marketed in Portugal for just two years. This is Toyota’s third global GR model, comprising three sports cars: a 2+2 sports car that joins the GR Supra and the GR Yaris. This model features a new 2.4-liter front boxer engine with 234 horsepower, rear-wheel drive and remarkable dynamics. The naturally aspirated 16-valve dual overhead camshaft (DOHC) four-cylinder unit uses the same cylinder block as before, but the displacement has been increased from 1998 to 2387 cc. This was achieved by increasing the diameter of the cylinders from 86 to 94 mm. Maximum power increased by around 17%, from 200 hp/147 kW to 234 hp/172 kW at 7000 rpm, which allowed acceleration time from 0 to 100 km/h to be reduced by more than a second, to 6 .3 seconds (6.9 seconds with automatic transmission). The top speed of the GR86 is 226 km/h with manual transmission, 216 km/h for automatic.

Synopsis: This book talks about José Neves, who until 2007 kept two businesses in parallel: a footwear brand and a software company. He understood both branches, but he had no competitive advantage in either. He ended up merging the two concepts at Farfetch. And by launching a platform for luxury fashion, he created the first Portuguese unicorn: a business that in 2015 was valued at more than a billion dollars. Ana Pimentel accompanied this unicorn with national DNA from day one. Here we discover the magic, but also the practical side of the business, from investment to IPO. It is a true account of a story with no end in sight.
