August 2016
A message from the new Board of Trustees for Opening Doors London It gives me great pleasure to introduce myself as the new chair of the board of ODL. As many of you will know, the past few months have led to a major change in the status of ODL as we have moved from being a project or series of projects within Age UK Camden to being an autonomous charity with our own aims and objectives and an expanding brief for London and beyond. We are still part of the wider family of Age UK Camden and maintain strong links with them (and we are grateful for all the support they continue to give us), but the new status gives us new opportunities - and challenges – to continue to improve what we do and to expand our services and activities in new directions. I have personally had links with ODL since its beginning. I was involved in the early discussions about setting up and getting funding for its work, and I spoke at several early meetings and at the first conference. I have continued to follow its development closely, and I know how important it has been for so many people in the past seven or eight years. I want to pay tribute to everyone who has made it a success – the members and participants, the volunteers and ambassadors, and the staff team. We now hope to build on that success, and we are currently exploring how best to do that – and expand our funding base. Funding as ever remains the key, and the climate is very challenging. We recently received a new grant from the Big Lottery, which secures our core funding for next few years, but we do need to broaden the base for longer term security, and that is the major reason for developing our new charity status. It gives us the opportunity to seek funding for work outside our North London base, and to explore new activities and innovations. The new board of the ODL charity consists of people who have been closely involved with ODL as volunteers and ambassadors and with Age UK Camden, and people drawn from business and the community who have been involved in LGBT activities over a number of years. We feel very committed as a group and are looking forward to working closely with the staff, members and volunteers in the time ahead. I think there are great opportunities for us in the next few years, and there is certainly a great need for our various activities. As a board we will do our best to fulfil the trust put in us, and we look forward to getting to know you and working closely with you over the next few years. Jeffrey Weeks, Chair, Board of Trustees, Opening Doors London 7

This is a leisurely stroll to enjoy watching the sunset over Wanstead Flats. The walk passes the previously LGBT* friendly The Golden Fleece public house with its lovely gardens where some may choose to stay. We will return via the cheaper Brakespear Arms which is adjacent to the Manor Park Station. The more energetic among us can enjoy a stroll across the playing fields (and possibly watch games in progress) or visit the wilder areas and nearby lake. With its wide open vista the sunset can be glorious (this is not under ODL control!). If we are lucky we will be able to enjoy it from seats at the front of the pub. The early bird catches the worm for these. Otherwise there is a garden. Miles: Approx. 2 (more if you choose to explore Wanstead Flats) Evening meal options: Bring

Mention Chelsea to most people and they mostly think of the King's Road. However, less than five minutes away from it, you are in another world. This is the village of Chelsea, much loved by Kings and Queens, and a host of artistic, literary and illustrious personages. Of all London districts, Chelsea has produced the greatest number of celebrities: great works of art were born there. It was the

A magnificent building by Sir Christopher Wren, avenues of lime trees, delightful gardens, one of which is world famous, and beautiful houses and cottages. We shall be exploring its hidden corners and visiting a remarkable church.
