Inky Cloak movement workshop for older LGBTQ people The Place, The Place, 17 Duke's Road, London WC1H 9PY Saturday 20 April, 10am-5pm Queer theatre company Inky Cloak are hosting a free movement workshop for older LGBTQ people, led by the brilliant movement director Gary Clarke. In this free workshop, we will create a safe, non-judgmental environment in which people can be themselves and unlock their creativity and confidence through movement and play. No performing experience of any kind is necessary. Gary Clarke has a huge amount of experience working with communitydriven projects, most recently with the LGBTQ community in Hull and the queer performance collective Duckie for Hull City of Culture 2017. You can read more about that piece, Into The Light, which explored the 50 years of LGBT life since partial decriminalisation at https://yorkshiredance.com/news/into-the-light-reflection/ Please, wear comfortable, loose clothing that is easy to move around in and bring a bottle of water, if you like. The workshop is happening at The Place, which is a friendly hub for dance training: https://www.theplace.org.uk/ It’s an eight-minute walk from King’s Cross St Pancras or a five-minute walk from Euston. We will be at reception to direct you to the studio. We are holding this workshop to help develop Inky Cloak’s new theatre show, which tells the interweaving stories of three queer elders who all rebel – in their different ways – against the efforts of their carers to drive them back into the closet. We’ll talk a little more about the show at the workshop. To book your free place or get in touch with any questions, please, email info@inkycloak.co.uk. Feel free to pass on this offer to any other LGBTQ friends who might be interested in taking part. We would love to hear from them, too! To find out more about Inky Cloak and our new show, please, visit our website: inkycloak.co.uk

Help you look for support and explore these options, if this is what you want

Our online support service also includes the following:

Trans and Non Binary sessions

Advocacy sessions, giving instant access to a member of the MindOut advocacy team

Oh, the lovely fickleness of an April day! w. h. gibson At Opening Doors London our work is underpinned by four values: We are dynamic, collaborative, inclusive, and we have integrity. And as we develop as an organisation it is important to the staff and trustees that we live out these values. This means that over the coming year we aim to develop our services aimed at LGBT+ people over 50. How are we dynamic? Well, we continue to provide an exciting programme of activities and events. Last year we held a number of very successful panel events and will be doing more this year! We also want to provide a more personalised approach and will be exploring developing telephone befriending which will enable us to reach more people in less accessible parts of London. It might also provide new volunteering opportunities for people who are less mobile themselves. We are also developing our buddying service to support new members of the ODL community to re-engage with the LGBT+ community by coming along to ODL activities and events. I’ve previously written about how we want to be inclusive and reach out across the wider LGBT+ communities and to ensure that everyone receives a warm welcome. Rachel and Jess are doing some great work engaging with BAME and Trans/non-binary communities, but we are still looking for people to join our team of Member Engagement Volunteers. If you could spare a few hours a week to make some phone calls – check out the role description on our website: http://openingdoorslondon.org.uk/vacancies/#engage or call Juliet or Adrian to have a chat. It is a great opportunity to make a real difference for the growing ODL community. So much of what ODL does is in collaboration with other organisations – some of our events are done in partnerships with other charities (e.g: The Mary Ward Centre and London Friend); our corporate partners; and we are developing some great relationships with academic institutions (volunteer recruitment, research). Our training is usually hosted by other charities. And I hope that all we do is delivered with integrity! All these values will underpin our 5-year Business Plan as we continue to develop ODL in addressing the needs of LGBT+ people who are over 50 in London … and beyond! As ever, we have a fantastic selection of activities and events for you to enjoy this month – I hope the warming weather encourages you to get out and try something new this month.
