We would like to thank our incredible sessional workers Danny West, Nic Humberstone and Linnea Frank who all have made amazing contributions over the years. All have run groups across London, and Lin has also tirelessly created our listings over the last two years. We hope to see them continue to be involved in the work of Opening Doors London in the future through new and emerging areas of work. Thank you from all at ODL xxx
As well as celebrating Pride this July, we can also celebrate three years since Opening Doors London became an independent charity. Whilst we remain part of the Age UK Camden group, ODL has its own Board of Trustees and is responsible for raising all the funds we need for our growing programme of activities and services. During this time we have grown from strength to strength. Our membership has grown significantly, our volunteers have increased and together we are successfully building a stronger and better supported older LGBT community in London and beyond. My role is, as a member of the board of Trustees and as the organisation’s Treasurer, to keep a very close eye on our financial position and our continuous work to raise funds to support all the activities. Alice and the team have worked tirelessly to raise funds for our work, mainly through submitting innovative, well researched and carefully costed bids for charitable funds. We have also started to bring in income from our training work and Pride in Care, our national quality standard. Significant support has been forthcoming from our many corporate supporters, our members and volunteers and a growing group of individual donors. The demands on sources of charitable funding have grown, and the competition is fierce. Whilst we have an excellent track record in winning grants, we are also looking to increase both our earned income and donations, in order to secure ODL’s future work. Over the coming months we will be creating opportunities for everyone and their friends and colleagues to contribute to ODL through a number of fundraising events. Whilst we are committed to continuing to offer free events and activities to ensure as many older LGBT+ people as possible are able to participate, we are also asking everyone to think about whether you can donate or contribute in any way to help us meet our costs. If you have any ideas or suggestions, please, let Alice know in the office. Every donation, whatever size, is very much appreciated and valued. We thank you all for your support.
