Hello to you all and a very happy 2019! The festive season over, its time again for LGBT History Month with the theme of Peace, Activism and Reconciliation. Its time for us to remember how we have changed the face of equality in England with brave acts, with discussion, argument and listening, Many battles fought and won and many lives made happier. And still a way to go, particularly in becoming firm allies for our trans communities. I’ve been a trustee of ODL since we became a charity on our own right, and its been a total privilege to see us grow and develop services for older LGBT members. I signed up as a volunteer to help people get together and form friendships that we hope will sustain us into a happy and healthy older age. And if you want to help, think about becoming one of our new member engagement volunteers who are around to introduce new members to groups and activities, to get over that initial hurdle of walking into the room and feeling welcome. So a big thanks from me to all involved and have a truly great year.

Annie Southerst Trustee and Vice Chair

At the facility, Cameron is subjected to outlandish discipline, dubious “de-gaying” methods, and earnest Christian rock songs-but this unusual setting also provides her with an unlikely gay community. Starring James Franco as Ginsberg, the film explores the life and works of 20th-century American poet. Constructed in a nonlinear fashion, the film juxtaposes historical events with a variety of cinematic techniques including extended animation sequences bringing to life his seminal poem. 6.00pm – 9.30pm

Walkabout, Talkabout, and Pig out; New Cross Gate to Greenwich We meet in the ticket hall of New Cross Gate station (Overground and trains from London Bridge etc.) Lift from platform to street. Toilets available at the nearby Sainsburys. Firstly we have a 1 mile walk to Deptford; we walk through Fordham Park, then under New Cross station (this is a walk for railway geeks!), through Margaret McMillan Park, where we can watch the pigeons and seagulls cooing and warbling, probably after some mischief. We can pause to feed the birds, but not white bread, as it is not good for them; much better some cereal, or muesli. We pass the Albany social centre (toilets here).

Secondly, lunch at Cafe Bianca (65 Deptford High St.), serving all day breakfasts (£6), hot meals, jacket potatoes, burgers, omelettes, salads and sandwiches. Thirdly (optional), a further walk of ¾ mile to Greenwich. We continue along Giffin St, into the Crossfields estate, and cross the Ha’penny Hatch footbridge across Deptford Creek. This is the continuation of the River Ravensbourne that we have seen twice already. Beside the footbridge is a railway bridge - the section was lifted vertically to give clearance, but it is no longer in use. We carry on to Greenwich station (train to London Bridge etc, and DLR).
