2016 Opening Doors London July groups and activities Exciting Times / Challenging Times As ODL edges closer to becoming a charity in its own right on the 1st of July, we have been working hard to ensure a smooth transfer from ODL the project to ODL the organisation. Exciting times! I have now been in post since the start of May and been on a rollercoaster ride of getting to know the ODL team; meeting members, Ambassadors, volunteers and Trustees; and getting all the things which need to be in place for ODL to transfer into a new charity – in place. We hope that this change will not only make ODL even more responsive to the needs of older LGBT* people – but also help our fundraising endeavours. These are challenging times for charities – and so, more than ever, we need all members to help us raise funds. This month’s fundraising focus is to encourage all members to sponsor the GLEE/ PwC team to take part in the Pride Run on 13th August to raise funds for ODL. Last year they raised £3k … let’s help them double that here: https://mydonate.bt.com/fundraisers/gleepride10k2016 We have a fabulous new Board of 7 under the leadership of our new Chair: Professor Jeffrey Weeks. They have now met twice and are balancing getting to know each other with learning more about the business of running ODL as a subsidiary charity - and are really enthusiastic about ODL and ensuring that we continue champion and meet the needs of the older LGBT* community. We are delighted to have Camden Tour Guides' top graduate and City of London Guide, Amanda McKerracher, leading us upon an exploration of a truly intriguing area away from the tourist trail The Gray’s Inn Road and some of the byways and backstreets that lie around it. Hear remarkable stories in an area where every building seems to have a tale to tell and where past events have shaped the way we live now. A place where seemingly ordinary streets have witnessed extraordinary scenes. We will hear of a lost river and a forgotten underground railway; literary giants, unsung heroes and a very tubby cat. We will find a ground-breaking hospital with a surprisingly explosive neighbour. An old pub which harbours more than one dark secret. And a garden where the peaceful mood is disturbed by the occasional dentist’s drill! It is workaday London, and all human life is here. If you would like more info or to join the walk you can either:

Would you like to sponsor the GLEE@PwC runners team as they raise money for ODL in the London Frontrunners 10km Pride Run this August? Nick from the team said “After the success of last year's race where GLEE@PwC runners raised £3,000 for Opening Doors London, we'll be running again in August and trying to beat that fundraising total. Despite not all of us being seasoned runners (or any sort of runners) we all made it across the finish line and had a great day out, knowing we were running to support such a great charity kept us going. We can't wait for the run again this year to raise more money for ODL. Thanks to anybody who is able to sponsor us!” To sponsor the team please see their fundraising page on: https://mydonate.bt.com/fundraisers/gleepride10k2016
