Clapham Common Northern line underground station 1.1 miles away and stop outside the café at the “Eccles Road” bus stop. 4 – 6pm Tuesday 6th September Clive’s Exercise Walk: Katy Andrews Memorial Walk. Explore Leyton and Walthamstow Marshes and The River Lea We will pass the Coppermill Water works and open water areas to Walthamstow Marsh. This is 3 Miles from the city yet contains land that has never been ploughed. It is a Site of Special Scientific Interest. As such it is partly defended. We will cross the marsh and go under a rail bridge to re-join it on a Boardwalk at a site where AV Roe did early flight trials. Katy worked very hard to save Leyton Marsh which is under threat from development. She cared too much and died young. But she helped save it for us to enjoy. The struggle continues. Miles: Approx. 4-5 Lunch plans: There are picnic areas and there is much to say for using these. There is a café. I will locate an affordable pub or café to dine in but our usual Steak Night deal would require a bus ride (for those who choose it).
