Smith, a 33-year Orlando resident, will oversee the day-to-day operations of the department and serve as the mayor's senior adviser on public safety matters. During his tenure with the Orlando Police Department, Smith has worked or supervised three of the four Departmental Bureaux and 10 of the 11 Divisions in the Department, in addition to being a deputy chief for eight years. Most recently, he served as Commander of the Bureau of Patrol Services, OPD's largest section of more than 500 sworn officers. He also serves as OPD's High Risk Incident Commander, where he leads the SWAT Team, Crisis Negotiations Team, Emergency Response Team, Emergency Services Team, and Crisis Intervention Team. In addition to his regular work assignments, Smith also served for more than 19 years as a member of the SWAT Team, including the position of Team Commander. Smith is a graduate of the 269th Session of the FBI National Academy and has also completed the FBI's Florida Executive Development
Program. In addition to his role at OPD, Smith is active in the community, including serving on numerous boards, including the YMCA of Central Florida, Valencia College Student Affairs, the After-School All-Stars, United Against Poverty, the Camaraderie Foundation, and the Boy
Scouts of America. from Central Florida. Rolón's last day in office will be August 19, 2022 and his retirement will be effective November 1, 2022. Following Rolón's last day in office, Smith will serve as Acting Chief and assume the role of Chief of Police on November 2, 2022.
