Estatal Paula Stark, del Distrito 47, celebró la apertura de su nueva oficina en Kissimmee, el martes 28 de febrero, con un Meet & Greet, acompañada por su eqipo de trabajo.

La representante se dirigió a la comunidad y compartió sus planes y los esfuerzos que llevará a Tallahassee. Ella representa los condados Osceola y Southeast Orange.

Desde proyectos para educación, vivienda y construccion, justicia criminal, empleos, reducción de impuestos y la creación de una junta asesora, su agenda está llena para éste próximo año.

Kissimmee, FL - State Representative Paula Stark, District 47, celebrated the opening of her new office in Kissimmee on Tuesday, February 28 with a Meet & Greet joined by her staff.

Rep. Paula Stark addressed the community on the plans and efforts she will take to Tallahassee. She represents Osceola and Southeast Orange Counties.

With projects for education, housing and construction, criminal justice, jobs, tax cuts and the creation of an advisory board, hes agenda is full for this coming year.

Rep. Stark invited the attendees to communicate with the other representatives and let them know what projects they

support, since these being at the state level, she is not the only one to make the final decision.

Representatives from The Osceola Chamber, Dirk Webb, President/CEO of the St. Cloud Greater Osceola Chamber of Commerce, and Julius Melendez from Osceola County School Board attended the event and participated in the ribbon cutting, among others.

In the well-attended event, government officials, business and community leaders were present and enjoyed refreshments on-site.

Road Construction

Desvío de Lakeshore Blvd de Kissimmee y St. Cloud comenzó

Condado Osceola, FL - La construcción del proyecto F ortune-Lakeshore Multi-Use Trail requerirá un cierre de carretera en Lakeshore Boulevard y Brown Chapel Road a partir del 28 de febrero.

Kissimmee and St. Cloud Lakeshore Blvd detour started

Osceola County, FL - Construction on the Fortune-Lakeshore Multi-Use Trail project will require a road closure at Lakeshore Boulevard and Brown Chapel Road starting on Feb. 28.

While the detour is estimated to be in place for 180 days, County officials are working with the contractor to reduce the length of the closure.

The road closure will allow installation of a pedestrian bridge over the C-31 Canal and the construction of structures and pipes to improve the drainage system in the area affected by the trail.

During the detour period, motorists in the area are asked to be attentive to installed road signs and maintain awareness of workers in the construction zone.

John C. Hitt

En una carta Alexander N. Cartwright, presidente de la Universidad de Florida Central expresó: “El Dr. Hitt fue el cuarto presidente de UCF durante un excepcional mandato de 26 años, de 1992 a 2018. Transformó UCF en una líder nacional en el aumento del acceso de los estudiantes para obtener un título universitario e innovar a través de asociaciones significativas que tocaron nuestra comunidad, estado y muchas de las industrias que llaman hogar a Florida Central. Su fallecimiento es una gran pérdida para nuestra universidad, nuestra comunidad y toda la educación superior".

Nacido en Texas, el Dr. Hitt fue el primero de su familia en asistir a la universidad, y su amor por el fútbol y el trabajo en equipo comenzó en Austin College, donde jugó como liniero ofensivo. Orlando, FL - On Feb. 16 the Orlando Economic Partnership welcomed sponsors, champions of Broad-based Prosperity, the Governor's Council, the Board of Directors, local elected officials, and community members at large who joined the celebration of the Partnership’s Annual Dinner featuring the James B. Greene Awards.

The event, honored Dr. Barbara M. Jenkins, Ed.D., and Dr. Sandy C. Shugart, Ph.D with the James B. Greene Award. First presented in 1990, the James B. Greene Award recognizes an individual whose work has contributed substantially to the economic prosperity of the region.

Dr. Jenkins and Dr. Shugart are, without a doubt, individuals who have exhibited community leadership that contributes to the Orlando region’s growth, quality of life and economic well-being.

college degree and innovating through meaningful partnerships that touched our community, state, and many of the industries that call Central Florida home. His passing is a tremendous loss to our university, our community, and all of higher education.

Born in Texas, Dr. Hitt was the first in his family to attend college, and his love for football and teamwork began at Austin College, where he played as an offensive lineman. He strongly believed in the transformative power of education and was extremely proud of the 260,000 UCF degrees awarded during his tenure, with first-generation students earning nearly one in four of those degrees toward the end of his term as president.

On behalf of the Valencia College Board of Trustees, Kathleen Plinske, president of Valencia College received Dr. Shugart’s award on his behalf.

As a first-generation college graduate, Plinske is passionate about the role education can play in transforming the lives of students and their families, and in turn, our communities. She spoke about her first-time meeting Dr. Shugart and remembered how he told her that age was not something that would prevent her from achieving great things. Plinske said that Dr. Shugart always emphasized that “anyone, can learn anything under the right conditions.” Plinske said that that has been “the fundamental big idea on which all the work at Valencia is based.”

Dr. Hitt's legacy can be felt all over UCF's campuses, including the John C. Hitt Library, the College of Medicine, the Rosen College of Hospitality Management, UCF Downtown, the Burnett Honors College, and DirectConnect to UCF.

Dr. Hitt was deeply devoted to his family — his wife, Martha, UCF's beloved first lady, and their two children, two grandchildren, and great grandson, all of whom survive him. The Hitts described their time at UCF as "one of the greatest joys of our lives."

We will always remember Dr. Hitt as a visionary leader, a champion of education, and a beloved member of the UCF community.

Se expande alcance de negocios hispanos con alianza histórica

Orlando, FL - La Administración Federal de Pequeñas Empresas (SBA, por sus siglas en inglés) está comprometida a ayudar a las pequeñas empresas, especialmente aquellas con desventajas. Las oficinas distritales del SBA del norte de Florida, Georgia y Carolina del Norte forjaron una alianza estratégica histórica con Prospera, la organización sin fines de lucro de desarrollo económico especializada en servicios bilingües para ayudar a hispanos a iniciar, fortalecer e impulsar sus negocios, siendo esta la primera vez que lo han hecho para varios estados. El objetivo del nuevo acuerdo es proveerle a empresarios hispanos en el sureste del país mayor acceso a los programas y servicios del SBA.

“En el año fiscal ‘22, se destinaron más de $506 millones en préstamos del SBA a empresas hispanas en Florida, y nuestro objetivo es aumentar esa cifra. Este año, el enfoque principal del SBA es ayudar a las pequeñas empresas a superar el desafío del capital, especialmente para las que son nuevas o tienen desventajas. Trabajar con organizaciones como Prospera es una de las formas en que pretendemos hacerlo. Expands outreach to Hispanic Businesses with historic multi-state alliance

Orlando, FL – The U.S. Small Business Administration (SBA) is committed to helping small businesses, especially those in underserved markets. SBA’s North Florida District Office, along with the Georgia District Office and North Carolina District Office, entered a firstof-its-kind multi-state Strategic Alliance Memorandum with Prospera to help bring resources to Hispanic-owned businesses in the Southeast U.S. Prospera is an economic development, nonprofit organization headquartered in Orlando and specialized in providing bilingual assistance to Hispanic entrepreneurs trying to start, sustain, or grow their business.

“In FY22, over $506 million in SBA loans went to Hispanic businesses in Florida, and we intend to grow that number. This year, SBA’s top focus is helping small businesses overcome the capital challenge, especially startups and small, disadvantaged businesses. Working with organizations like Prospera is one of the ways we intend to do that. This strategic alliance will bring SBA’s most valuable small business resources into reach for many entrepreneurs and furthers the Biden-Harris Administration’s commitment to build equity and opportunity in Hispanic communities,” stated Allen Thomas, SBA Region IV Administrator.

The North Florida District has worked with Prospera since 2014 to provide counseling and technical assistance for bilingual business owners. In part as a result of the Alliance, Prospera has assisted

Hispanic business owners in the process of applying for over $70 million in SBAbacked loans.

The newly signed multi-state Strategic Alliance Memorandum (SAM) will increase the participation of Prospera’s clients with special emphasis on WomenOwned, Minority, Hispanic, and VeteranOwned businesses in the SBA’s capitalaccess, procurement, international trade, women’s business, and advocacy programs.

Jonel Hein, SBA North Florida District Director stated, “Hispanic businesses contribute to their communities, they hire from their neighborhoods, and they pay into their local tax base; but significant opportunity gaps persist due to underinvestment. We hope partnerships like this will continue to help lessen the gap and increase opportunities for our Hispanic business owners in our district, and across the region.”

“The U.S. Small Business Administration has been an important partner to Prospera in helping us strengthen and grow Hispanic-owned small businesses,” said Prospera President and CEO Augusto Sanabria. “As we continue to grow, we are grateful to renew our partnership with the SBA and extend its reach across the three states we currently serve – Florida, Georgia, and North Carolina. Orlando Health lanza un programa de cirugía cardiaca robótica

Orlando, FL - Vascular Institute se está preparando para la cirugía cardíaca con tecnología robótica asistida. El programa de cirugía cardíaca robótica es actualmente el único programa de este tipo en Orlando, que ofrece cirugía asistida por robot para enfermedades estructurales y valvulares.

"Sin comprometer la calidad ni los resultados, podemos ofrecer a los pacientes el enfoque mínimamente invasivo de la cirugía cardíaca", afirma Michael Hanna, MD, MS, FACS, cirujano cardíaco del Orlando Health Heart and Vascular Institute.

Con las técnicas de cirugía asistida por robot, los cirujanos cardiacos utilizan incisiones muy pequeñas para reparar el corazón, lo que se traduce en menos dolor, menos complicaciones, una recuperación más corta y una mayor satisfacción para los pacientes. La longitud de la incisión varía, pero puede ser de entre 3/8 y 1 pulgada. Dos tipos frecuentes de valvulopatía mitral son la regurgitación y la estenosis. La regurgitación se produce cuando las válvulas no se cierran herméticamente. La estenosis se produce cuando las valvas de la válvula se endurecen o se pegan entre sí.

Orlando Health launches robotic cardiac surgery program

Orlando, FL - Cardiovascular surgeons at Orlando Health Heart and Vascular Institute are scrubbing in for heart surgery with robotic assisted technology. The robotic cardiac surgery program is currently the only program of its kind in Orlando, providing roboticassisted surgery for structural and valve disease.

“Without compromising quality or outcomes, we are able to offer patients the most minimally invasive approach to heart surgery,” said Michael Hanna, MD, MS, FACS, cardiac surgeon, Orlando Health Heart and Vascular Institute.

With robotic-assisted surgery techniques cardiac surgeons use very small incisions to repair the heart, which means less pain, fewer complications, shorter recovery, and greater satisfaction for patients. Incision length varies but could be as small as 3/8 inch to 1 inch. Incision with traditional heart surgery, which requires an incision through the sternum to access the heart, can be as long as 7 to ten inches.

“The r obotic cardiac surgery program is the latest offering in the Comprehensive Mitral Center offering patients an array of treatment options for mitral valve disease,” said Farhan Khawaja, MD, cardiologist and president, Orlando Health Heart and Vascular Institute.

Robotic-assisted surgery also provides benefits to surgeons, including three-dimensional visualization during the procedure, improved access to anatomical structures, and an ergonomic environment.

“This results in improved patient outcomes, less blood transfusions, infections and morbidity,” said Dr. Hanna.

Mitral valve disease occurs when one or more of the four heart valves do not function properly to allow blood flow in the right direction through your heart to the rest of your body.

Two common types of mitral valve disease are regurgitation and stenosis. Regurgitation happens wh en valve leaflets don’t close tightly. Stenosis is when the valve leaflets harden or stick together.

The robotic cardiac surgery program is part of the Orlando Health Advanced Robotic Surgery Center.

Mes Nacional de la Historia de la Mujer

Esta celebración tiene sus raíces el 8 de marzo de 1857, cuando mujeres de varias fábricas de la ciudad de Nueva York organizaron una protesta por las malas condiciones de trabajo. La primera celebración del Día de la Mujer en los Estados Unidos fue en 1909, también en la ciudad de Nueva York.

Más de siete décadas después, el Congreso estableció en el 1981 la Semana Nacional de la Historia de la Mujer para conmemorarse anualmente la segunda semana de marzo. En el 1987 el Congreso amplió la semana a un mes y cada año desde entonces ha aprobado una resolución (y el presidente ha emitido una proclamación) designando marzo el Mes de la Historia de la Mujer.

Durante toda mi vida, los deportes de motor han sido un entorno curioso... Las máquinas se conciben, diseñan, construyen, ensamblan y se llevan a arenas de varios tipos, nacionalidades y tecnologías, sin embargo, todas tienen un denominador común; el humano controlándolos, llegando a la meta.

Aunque entendemos todos los fundamentos básicos que conspiran para que un “don nadie” se convierta en alguien en éstas competencias, desde los pilotos hasta los técnicos, los equipos están hechos para soportar todo lo que se les presente, incluida la nutrición. Este es el enfoque de nuestro artículo de hoy; alimentación, gastronomía y automovilismo.

Productores, patrocinadores, pilotos, miembros del equipo, fanáticos y entusiastas se reúnen en éstas gigantescas arenas, ya sea una pista de carreras de nivel NASCAR o una pista local rural, la comida se ha convertido en una opción de valor PRINCIPAL durante la última década. Muchos proveedores como Aramark, Center Plate, Sysco, Gordon Foods, US Foods y otros se alinean con un conglomerado de asociaciones de deportes de motor para presentar lo mejor de lo mejor en una variedad de ofertas de alimentos. El Daytona International Speedway, propiedad de NASCAR, está entusiasmado con sus vendedores de comida, por lo que lo visitamos recientemente..

Como es habitual, hay carpas de prensa y ofertas de Café VIP para los participantes acreditados, también plataformas VIP, servicios de catering para equipos y secciones privadas corporativas con una selección de menús dignos de un rey. Aún así, los técnicos y el personal del “pit lane” se ven obligados a depender de frutas, barras/bebidas energéticas y comida para llevar en platos desechables para satisfacer sus necesidades las 24 horas del día en un evento de maratón continuo como las Rolex24 horas de IMSA. Vimos todo, desde las rondas de práctica hasta la calificación, el día de la carrera y el día de llegada (domingo), y una cosa está justificada; nada se detiene para nadie!

A lo largo de nuestra jornada habitual, visitamos los garajes, la pista de carreras, los “pits”, los vendedores de comida, la plaza principal, las barbacoas en el campo y los “tailgaters”, así como el club corporativo e incluso las instalaciones de operaciones de la pista de carreras donde TODOS estaban de primera clase, felices, atendiendo, prácticamente sin estrés, sin largas esperas, y sobre todo, alimentos y bebidas de CALIDAD para todos. Obviamente, en comparación, las bebidas tienen precios proporcionalmente más altos que los alimentos, pero bueno; ¡estás en una de las mejores arenas de los deportes de motor y todo está a tu alcance para disfrutar!

Entrar al estacionamiento fue una gran experiencia, especialmente en el estacionamiento interior, ya que todo estuvo perfectamente orquestado y bien organizado durante la semana de eventos. Cualquiera puede moverse caminando desde las gradas y hacia el interior del campo a través de túneles subterráneos, a través de un tranvía o en su propio vehículo si pertenece a clubes de automóviles, corrales de fabricantes o cualquier RV con reserva previa para tal.

En general, nuestra experiencia gastronómica fue suburbana, desde 4Rivers BBQ, pasando por pequeños vendedores con sus ofertas únicas, hasta la ESTRELLA real del evento, una fogata familiar conocida como VARA RACING. Cuentan con una variedad de bistecs cocidos al fuego de leña, sándwiches y cortes especiales como Picanha. ¡DELICIOSO y taaaan único!

Por lo que sea que cuente, un día en las carreras de Daytona, ya sea por la COKE500, por la Rolex24, por el Turkey Run Day u otros,, vale su “peso en oro”; pues en comparación, los precios de INDICAR, IMSA o NASCAR comienzan en $40(adultos)/menores <12 son gratis, cuando Fórmula 1 inician en $125-$180 (adultos). Una noche de ver películas, un concierto musical o una cena fuera, claramente cuesta muchísimo más, ofreciendo muchísimo menos. En fin, todos se divertirán, comerán bien, rugirán al son de los motores o de la música, en variedades que “AMERICANA” tiene para ofrecer…

The Real BEHIND-the-SCENES Life of Motorsports

Through my life, motorsports has been a curious environment… Machines are conceived, designed, built, assembled and brought to arenas of various sorts, nationalities and technologies, however, they all have one common denominator; the human controlling them, reaching the finish line.

Although we all understand all basic fundamentals conspiring to get a nobody become a somebody in these competitions, from drivers to techs, teams are built to endure everything thrown at them, including nutrition. This is the focus of our article today; nourishment, gastronomy and motorsports.

Producers, sponsors, drivers, team members, fans and enthusiast gather in these gargantuan arenas, be it a NASCAR level speedway or a local heartland track, food has become a MAJOR value of options over the last decade. Many providers like Aramark, Center Plate, Sysco, Gordon Foods, US Foods and others align themselves with a conglomerate of motorsports associations to present the best of the best in a variety of food offerings. Daytona International Speedway, owners by NASCAR, is riding high with their food vendors, as we recently visited for the 2023 Rolex 24.

As usual, there are media tents, and VIP Café offerings for the credentialed participants, also VIP rigs, catering services for teams as well as corporate private sections with a selection of menus worthy of a king. Still, pit lane techs and staff are forced to rely on fruits, energy bars/ drinks, and take-outs in foam dishes in order to fulfill their around the clock necessities on a 24 hour non-stop marathon event like the IMSA Rolex 24. We saw everything, from practice rounds, to qualifying to race day and finish day (Sunday), and one thing is warranted; nothing stops for anyone!

Through our usual journey we visited the garages, the race track, the pits, the food vendors, the main plaza, the infield BBQ’s and tailgaters, as well as the corporate club and even the race track operations facilities where EVERYONE was top notch, happy to assist, with practically no stress, no long waits, and above all, QUALITY food and beverages for all. Obviously, beverages have a proportional higher price tags than food, but hey; you are at one of motorsports greatest arenas…, and everything is available to enjoy!

Getting into the parking was a great experience, especially into the infield parking, as everything was perfectly orchestrated and well organized throughout the week of events. Anyone can get around by either walking from the stands and into the infield via underground tunnels, via a tram or via their own vehicle if the belong to car clubs, manufacturers corrals or any RV with previous reservations for such.

All in all, our food experience was suburb, from 4Rivers BBQ, to small vendors with their unique offerings, to the actual STAR of the event, a mom ‘n pops fire pit known as VARA RACING. They feature a variety of wood fire cooked steaks, sandwiches and specialty cuts lie Picanah. DELICIOUS and soooooo unique!

For whatever is worth, a day at the races in Daytona, be it for the COKE500, for the Rolex24, for the Turkey Run Day, or else, is worth its “weight in gold”; as in comparison, INDYCAR, IMSA or NASCAR start at $40(adults)/children <12 are free, when Formula 1 starts at $125-$180 (adult). A night at the movies, a musical concert or a dinner out, clearly cost a lot more, offering a lot less. You will all have a great time, eat well, roar with the beat of the engines or of the music, and over one of the best activities AMERICANA has to offer…

El juego de la paciencia

Fans del Orlando Magic están ansiosos por ver a su equipo regresar a la élite de la NBA. Fuera de un par de viajes sin pena ni gloria a playoffs, no podemos decir que Orlando ha sido protagonista desde la época de Dwight Howard. Tener a la selección global #1 fue el detonante de toda la ilusión, pero aquí siempre hemos dicho que crecer es un proceso largo y doloroso. Entrando en el penúltimo mes de la temporada, el Magic está en el lugar 13 de 15, a tan solo 3.5 juegos de entrar en el play-in. Pero ello debería ser lo último en la mente de tanto fans como del propio equipo, ya que la meta este año nunca fue volver a playoffs, sino dar el primer paso en la reconstrucción. La buena noticia es que, precisamente, ese paso se está dando. Ya pudieron regresar Jonathan Isaac y Markelle Fultz, quienes habían estado fuera más de tres años entre los dos, y Orlando ha dejado de ser el equipo más lesionado de la liga. Lo más importante es que el futuro de la franquicia, de nombre Paolo y apellido Banchero, ha sido todo lo que habían anunciado, y va que vuela para ganar el premio al novato del año. Pese a un febrero discreto, en especial en triples (solo encestó uno de 33 intentos), el novato lidera al equipo en puntos, asistencias y rebotes, además de que en toda la clase de novatos es #1, #3 y #4 en esas categorías. El de Duke ha superado las expectativas y será la estrella del equipo, y puesto que Orlando tendrá 55 millones libres en el tope sala -

rial (2º en la NBA) para el próximo año, no es descabellado pensar que una o dos estrellas puedan hacer de Florida Central su próxima residencia. Mucho tendrá que ver el desarrollo de otras promesas como Suggs, Anthony, Bol o los hermanos Wagner, quienes se han estancado un poco este año, pero Orlando solo debe pensar en el futuro, y hasta ahora sigue luciendo prometedor. Eso sí, recuerden tener paciencia.

Los candidatos

Los que no necesitan mucha paciencia son los fans de los candidatos este año. La liga está tan abierta como nunca, y el nivel del Este se ha emparejado, o hasta superado, el del Oeste. Hoy por hoy, el mejor equipo se llama Milwaukee. Con sus 15 victorias al hilo (antes de su partido en Orlando), han superado a Boston y tienen el mejor récord de la liga. Bucks y Celtics parecen destinados a encontrarse en las finales de conferencia, a menos que Philadelphia tenga algo que decir (que, por la historia reciente, no será así). Del otro lado del país es Denver el ligero favorito, con Memphis, Golden State y sobre todo Phoenix, a punto de iniciar la era Kevin Durant, como los fuertes contendientes. A la vez, podemos ir descartando a Dallas, con marca perdedora desde que llegó la bomba humana Kyrie Irving, Clippers, Nets, y, por si alguien tenía esperanzas, con la lesión de LeBron, a los Lakers.

Orlando Magic fans are eager to see their team return to the NBA’s elite. Outside of a couple of uneventful trips to the playoffs, we can't say that Orlando has been a protagonist since the days of Dwight Howard. Having the #1 overall team was the trigger for all the illusion, but here we have always said that growing up is a long and painful process. Entering the penultimate month of the season, the Magic sit 13th out of 15, just 3.5 games shy of making the play-in. But that should be the last thing on the minds of both fans and the team itself, since the goal this year was never to return to the playoffs, but to take the first step in rebuilding. The good news is that precisely this step is being taken. Now Jonathan Isaac and Markelle Fultz, who had been out more than three years between them, have returned to the court, and Orlando’s no longer the most injured team in the league. The most important thing is that the future of the franchise, first named Paolo last name Banchero, has been everything they had advertised, and it’s on its course to win the Rookie of the Year award. Despite a discreet February, especially in triples (he only made one of 33 attempts), the rookie leads the team in points, assists and rebounds, in addition to being #1, #3 and #4 in those in the entire rookie class. Duke’s prospect has exceeded expectations and will be the star of the team, and since Orlando will have 55 million free in

Nowadays, the best team is called Milwaukee. With their 15-win streak (before their game in Orlando), they’ve surpassed Boston and have the best record in the league. Inició una semana nueva y también otro de los participantes del programa fue despedido, con un rumbo cada vez más cercano a la gran final. Este lunes 27 de febrero, el líder semanal tuvo que salvar a uno de los cuatro nominados. Los tres restantes esperaron en medio de una ceremonia los resultados de la votación del público.

Samira Jalil, Rey Grupero, José Rodríguez y Diego Soldano fueron sentenciados el jueves por sus mismos compañeros. Todos los competidores habían entrado al llamado zoom para decir ante las cámaras los motivos por los cuales nominaban a cada persona. Después, quienes obtuvieron más menciones fueron sometidos a los votos de la audiencia.

Ante la salida del influencer, cuyo nombre real es Luis Alberto Ordaz, los televidentes reaccionaron de inmediato. Si bien hubo gente que lamentó la noticia, la mayoría

El líder de la semana, Osmel Sousa, decidió quitarle el riesgo a Samira. Por lo tanto, los otros tres hombres quedaron expuestos a la eliminación. Two people left the program in the last elimination: one of them by their own will and another one by the viewers' decision.

Telemundo announced a new elimination from its reality show La Casa de los Famosos. A new week began and another of the show's participants was also dismissed, with a course that is getting closer and closer to the grand finale.
