Anstey Nomads F.C. vs Aylestone Park F.C. A big welcome to all supporters, players, and officials for this evening’s East Midlands Counties League fixture. A midweek Leicestershire clash tonight, as the season draws to a close, both Anstey and Aylestone have had a pretty good season, with both teams in the top half of the table in 5th and 6th respectively. Last week Nomads staged a second half comeback at home against Borrowash, adding to our almost perfect home record this year. Aylestone Park hosted Ellistown & Ibstock United this past Saturday, they started off well with an early goal but the travelling side leveld before the half, Aylestone left it till the final 10 minutes to put 2 more past Ellis’stock to seal the win. Nomads have the home advantage but Aylestone got the win over Nomads at their ground earlier in the season, with only last remain points to fight for the pressure shouldn’t be too high for either side and a more relaxed game could bring out the best of some players and even allow for some creative tactics and plays to be tried out. Whatever the result of the game, it should be a great matchup and I hope Anstey and Aylestone (and any neutrals) fans alike will enjoy this one!

Around the Counties by Stan Wilton Midweek saw ANSTEY NOMADS come from behind to extend their already impressive home record. Idris Kabongo had given BORROWASH VICTORIA a 35th minute lead but goals from Stephen and Jonathon Armson inside five minutes around the hour mark gave Nomads the points. GRAHAM STREET PR IMS scored two early goals through Kurt Allison and Jack Tyson in their game against KIMBERLEY MINERS WELFARE, but the visitors fought back before half time to level with two goals from Chris Sankey. James Rushby restored Prims advantage on the hour and Michael Fitzhugh made it 4-2. A last minute Graham Wells goal was all that stood between HOLWELL SPORTS and BARROW TOWN, while the unexpected revival of GREENWOOD MEADOWS saw them come from behind to take a point from their visit to RADCLIFFE OLYMPIC. Conor Moore on 31 minutes and Ewan Sweeting five minutes later had given Olympic a two-goal cushion by the interval. But six minutes after the restart Joshua Gordon pulled one back for the Greens and put new life into them. Dwain Millor completed the come-back for a deserved point eleven minutes from the end. There was high drama at Canal Street as well where an 89th minute winner from Shay Brennan in front of a crowd of 146 set up the momentum for ST ANDREWS to clinch the title on Saturday. Paul Pallett on 13 minutes and Brennan on 22 had made things look comfortable for the Saints, but BLABY & WHETSTONE ATHLETIC had other ideas and goals from Tom Hill and Alex Morris midway through the second half set up a nervy finish before Brennan struck late on for his second goal of the game. Two Isaac Minnot goals, one in each half, gave HOLBROOK SPORTS a comfortable home win over ARNOLD TOWN, and two first half goals from Conor Ward were responsible for giving STAPENHILL all three points on their visit to BORROWASH VICTORIA for whom Alexander Marshall’s 67th minute goal proved to be a mere cdonsolation. SATURDAY’S ACTION …and so…Set up by Shay Brennan’s late winner on Tuesday evening ST ANDREWS duly clinched the league title with an 8-0 thumping of lowly ARNOLD TOWN who just couldn’t repeat the performance of the previous week when they won for the first time in 18 games. Shay Brennan could only manage one goal in the romp, the fourth, and remains two goals adrift of Blaby & Whetstone’s Aaron Preston in the race for the League’s Golden Boot award. Goals from Elliot Putman, Joe Latham, Robert Morgan, Steve Hart and Brennan put the Saints five up at the interval. Hart, last season’s Golden Boot winner with Bardon Hill, completed his hat-trick and Morgan added his second of the game. At the conclusion League Chairman David Holland assisted by Board Member Graham Parker presented the championship

trophy to the happy Saints. Relegated GREENWOOD MEADOWS were at it again, winning at STAPENHILL having come from behind for the second time this week, to take their points tally into double figures. Tom Ellerton had given Stapenhill a third minute lead but second half goals from Dwain Millor and Dwayne Brown gave the Greens their third victory of the season. ASHBY IVANHOE, RADFORD and SOUTH NORMANTON ATHLETIC are all battling for runners-up spot, each with one game left, and with the first two mentioned out of action today Athletic took advantage to beat visiting RADCLIFFE OLYMPIC although it took two second half Luke Crosby penalties to overturn the 53rd minute lead given to the visitors by Ewan Sweeting. HOLBROOK SPORTS made it two home wins in a week by beating BLABY & WHETSTONE ATHLETIC 5-0 with Isaac Minnot getting a hat-trick to take his tally of goals for the week to five. Jermaine Palmer and Kyle Hazeldine were the Brookies other marksmen. Two late goals in the last five minutes from Adam Joynson and Nuno Monteiro gave AYLESTONE PARK the points against visiting ELLISTOWN & IBSTOCK UNITED. Monteiro had earlier given Park a tenth minute advantage only for Joseph Neal to restore parity fifteen minutes later. Two Nduoma Chilaka goals, one in each half, gave BARROW TOWN victory over BORROWASH VICTORIA.

Brothers in Arms(on) lead the Nomads comeback. Nomads came back from 1 goal down to win 2-1 against Borrowash. By Reece Preston-Hayes Tuesday 19th April, in the run up to the end of the season Nomads host Borrowash Victoria in a mid-table clash, Borrowash would be hoping to pull a double over Nomads after a healthy victory over us earlier in the season, however that loss for Nomads marked the last loss for a long time as we went on a healthy unbeaten streak which was only ended late in February by the eventual league winners St Andrews*. The game got on the way and both sides eager to get stuck in. After the initial back and forth, Nomads began to struggle to keep the ball as the stronger Borrowash side passed it around well and had a better Aerial presence which has been a weak point for Nomads a couple times over the course of the season.

Borrowash Victoria continued to press on well, and came close with a very ambitious attempt at long range. They won the ball in the middle of park and playing from a few yards out from the box a rocket of shop blasted towards goal, Taylor McMillan making the save with an outstretched leg after perfectly plotting the path of the incoming attack. However, Borrowash continued to have the majority of the possession and kept attacking, Nomads defence held on firm and created some opportunities for counter-attacks but in the end Borrowash’s pressured presence would force the ball back into their grasp. After 35minutes of play Borrowash found themselves inside the Nomads box, Idris Kabongo smashed the ball into the back of the net with such velocity that it bounced back out of the net after wards, nether-the-less Borrowash were deservedly infront as the half ended. With the second half kicking of Nomads would have to play a lot better if they hope to get anything out of the match, and straight the way things looked up, a long ball was picked up by Joe Hartopp, who inside the Vic’s box, took a chance at goal but it went wide this time but a key step in the right direction. Nomads continued to improve, Ash Day moved down the wing and put the ball over into the box and Nick Reeves got his head on the end of it but shy from the goal, the ball is kept in play and swept back over but a chance passes us by. Nomads completed their turnaround of the match on the exact hour mark, Nomads with a corner being whipped in by Steve Armson and the ball entered some kind of pinball madness deflecting off several players and just as the Keeper tries to flip the ball away but with a miss-timed kick the ball tucks itself under his leg and sneaks it’s way past the goal-line to make this game level-peggy. 5 minutes later Nomads had another corner and this time Steve links up with his brother Jon Armson who leaped up high, using his head to deliver the ball into the net, 2-1 to Nomads. With another 30 minutes left to play Nomads continue to command the half, regular danger-men Joe Hartopp, Ash Day, Nick Reeves amongst others all had chances to further Nomads lead but it would remain 2-1 as the final whistle blew. A game of two halves, but one team’s half just better than the others. Final Score: Anstey Nomads 2-1 Borrowash Victoria

A Brief history of the Anstey Nomads F.C. The Anstey Nomads were formed in 1947 and were champions of the Leicestershire Senior League in the seasons 1951-52 and 1953-54. The following season the Club recorded its’ highest ever attendance of 4,500 against the Athenian League side Hayes in the 2nd round of the FA Amateur Cup. But just one year later the Club decided to join the Central Alliance. In 1966-67 the East Midlands Regional League was formed, mainly from Clubs in the Central Alliance, and of the six seasons the Nomads spent in this League, they gained a top four place in three of them. In 1971 Anstey Nomads were chosen to feature on Bartholomew’s Football map of England and Wales, our badge and information (albeit with incorrect founding date) is listed 5th between Andover and Arsenal! In 1994-95 the Nomads created history by winning both the Leicestershire FA Senior Cup and the Junior Cup in the same season. In 2008-2009 season the Nomads had one of their most successful seasons by winning the Leicestershire Senior League, The Battle of Britain Cup, The Rollestone Charity Cup and The Beacon Bitter League Cup. Our first season in the EMCL 2009/2010 saw the Nomads finish bottom but our good reputation helped us not get relegated and we stayed in the EMCL. Season 2011-12 Nomads were in the F.A Cup for the first time in our history The 13/14 season was a time of transition for the Nomads, with some struggle, we managed to remain in the EMCL. Nomads also had their first Under 18's Floodlit team; they had an impressive season with several players stepping up to our senior sides. 2014/15 Rob Harris became first team manager alongside former Manager Jimmy Withers; Nomads' continued in with Youth development with the Under18's floodlit side, and debuted a new Under 16's side. 2015/16 Rob and Jimmy look to continue the form the ended on last season and have a successful season after pulling Nomads out of transitional stage, Nomads will be fielding an U21s side instead of the Reserve side in an attempt to continue our youth development programme. We will also continue with an U18’s team for the 3rd year running.

A brief history of Aylestone Park F.C. Aylestone Park Senior Section was formed way back in 1980 and at that point it was a natural progression from youth team football where we were very successful at local level. Our early years saw us develop from Sunday morning adult football in the Charnwood League to our first taste of Saturday football courtesy of the Leicester&District League where we were very successful, gaining many league honours and various County F.A Cup succeses. Without doubt this was a very vibrant time for the club and on the back of our previous achievements we were eventually accepted into the Leicestershire Senior League,a major step up in not only playing standards but also level of facility.Floodlights, spectator stand and post and rail pitch were standard requirements back then in the late 80’s and without doubt Leicestershire football was at a very good level, with the likes of Shepsed Charterhouse,Quorn,Coalville Town,Barwell,Friar Lane Old Boys to name but a few,all making for some very attractive fixtures. Although ‘The Park’ thoroughly enjoyed their many years of Senior League membership, it became clear that the established clubs were looking to make progress and pursue pastures new. This ‘progression’ wasn’t lost on us and following our recent re-location to our new facilities in 2010 we finally enjoyed our best season to date in 2011-12,gaining promotion to the East Midlands Counties League which provides football at Step 6 on the National Football Pyramid System. On a broader scale, Aylestone Park F.C provides football in the local community for not only adult football but also a wide range of age group sections i,e minisoccer, junior ,youth and, ladies football plus an inclusive section for youngsters with learning difficulties. It is this vision of how we see the whole footballing picture and what is required in our community that has enabled us to be assisted by various grant aid in addition to our own dedicated fundraising efforts that have gave us an outstanding, firstclass facility.
