Saturday 22th August 2015. Anstey Nomads F.C. vs Barrow Town F.C. A big welcome to all supporters, players, and officials for this afternoon’s league fixture. A local derby for us all to witness today as we welcome Barrow Town to Davidsons Homes Park. The two clubs have met plenty of times before and last season Barrow had the slight advantage winning the early October game by 3-2 here at Davidsons Homes Park. Nomads went through several improvements before we met again just before Nomads really struck their good form, this match at Barrow in January ended a 1-1 draw. Barrow sit in the same position that Nomads did just last week with a win and a draw in their first two games, but after a heavy loss in the F.A. Cup last week it’ll be interesting to see if it will affect their confidence at all. Nomads have a bit of bumpy start, a win on the opening day set the bar high but with a draw and two losses since then it’s time to really lace up and put points on the board. Whatever the result of the game it should be a great matchup and I hope Anstey and Barrow fans alike will enjoy this one! Key Things to watch for: I’ve seen plenty of battles between Anstey and Barrow, and it might sound a little bit obvious but whichever team can get control of the play first and keep control strongly in their grasp should have the opportunity to put plenty chances against their opposition, expect a varied match as both teams look to keep the ball for themselves or desperately counter an offensive assault.

Around the Counties by Stan Wilton The Extra Preliminary Round of the Emirates FA Cup dominated proceedings this week end with six of our clubs involved. Two goals from Joe Meakin and one from Corey Knight were enough to see RADFORD recover from a half time deficit to defeat UCL side Sleaford Town 3-2 and make progress to the next round. SOUTH NORMANTON ATHLETIC also made home advantage count when they beat AFC Mansfield by the odd goal of 3. Kane Jellyman and Shane Newton were the second half marksmen for the Shiners. One of our clubs was forced to be in the Preliminary Round that was due to the all Leicestershire local clash between ELLISTOWN & IBSTOCK UNITED and HOLWELL SPORTS. And this turned out to be something of a whitewash for the hosts who went down by five clear goals. Liam Chapman started the ball rolling just ten minutes in; Julian Joachin got his first for the club on 24 minutes and ten minutes later Graham Wells got the first of his brace to put Holwell into a comfortable three-goal advantage at the interval. Tom Harris and a second from Graham Wells sealed a 5-0 win in the second half. A 5-0 scoreline was also recorded at BLABY & WHETSTONE ATHLETIC, but this was in favour of UCL side Leicester (formerly Thurnby) Nirvana, whilst Midland League side Loughborough University accounted for BARROW TOWN by 4-1 with Francis Fennemore being the lone scorer for the Quarrymen. ST ANDREWS were the other side to crash out at this stage of the competition, beaten at Canal Street by Northern Counties East League side Clipstone. A brace of goals from Andy Fell in 53 and 65 minutes was not enough to see the Saints make progress as the visitors, who led by two goals at the interval, won 32. MICKLEOVER SPORTS continue to head the League table with a 100% record, but they were made to work hard for their success by bottom-of-the-table GREENWOOD MEADOWS. Steve O’Connell put the visitors ahead in the 19th minute, and got a second almost immediately after Conor Scott had equalised for the Greens. Alex Marshall opened up the two-goal gap again on the hour only for Dwain Miller to pull one back again nine minutes later. But the league newcomers held on to their 3-2 score to stay at the top. AYLESTONE PARK stay in second spot after beating visitors RADCLIFFE OLYMPIC 3-1. Jack Smith put the O’s ahead on twenty minutes and it looked like they might follow up their midweek demolition of GRAHAM STREET PRIMS with another win. But Park had other ideas even if they did leave it late to turn things round, Adam Joynson on 78 minutes and a brace from Ben Harris in 81 and 88 minutes gave them the points. ASHBY IVANHOE moved into third place after beating BORROWASH VICTORIA by a similar 3-1 score. Dan Stevenson opened the scoring on 34 minutes only for Dominic Williamson to level with six minutes of the game remaining. This woke up Ivanhoe who grabbed the points with an 89th minute goal from Luke Thorogrood and a stoppage time third from substitute Daniel Quinn. GRAHAM STREET PRIMS and GEDLING MINERS WELFARE couldn’t be separated as they shared the points in a goal-less draw, but there was no cheer for STAPENHILL who went down by the odd goal of three at home to a KIMBERLEY MINERS WELFARE side who moved into fourth spot in the table as a result. Steve Chaplin gave the visitors the advantage in the third minute only for Tom Ellerton to level thirteen minutes later. Matt Hassett got the goal which proved to be the winner in the 34th minute with neither side managing to find the net in the second half.

'ARD FOUGHT MATCH AGAINST ARNOLD Nomads’ reach stalemate with Arnold By Reece Preston-Hayes Nomads welcomed their 3rd opponents of the season, Arnold Town for what would be a physical game of two sides aiming to improve on a decent run last season. Before the match up was a mini-soccor match for the young players of the Anstey Swifts who we are closely partnered with, the Swift players and their parents were guests of honour as well as our sponsor Sturgess who continued their great support of our club. The Nomads' squad was very similar to the one that played against Arnold last season with a few new additions and changes to improve on the great run of form Nomads ended last season with and came into this season with. The Nomads side also included young talent in-between the posts, which arguably is the most difficult position for a young lad to step into, it holds a lot of responsibility and if you can't command your box and organise the defence when you’re under a barrage of pressure then you're going to struggle to make an impression, but impress he did with some absolutely cracking saves and will most likely be appearing again when the opportunity arises, and while he's playing for the youth sides of our Nomads family those other teams better come up with something spectacular to get the better of him. The match started out very cliché both sides having possession, trying to find their stride and making a few attempts on goal with either not much luck or too little on the finish touch to get an early lead, although Arnold seemed to have the better of the chances with Nomads defence a little unsettled. About 10 or 15 minutes (depending on who's watch you look at) Arnold push forward with another attack and with some uneasy defending they put the ball in the back of the net via Corey Nightingale, Nomads were unlucky to not clear it off the line but it was too late as the linesman had declared it a goal. Nomads however continued to try their luck with two good plays to forward Daz Taylor in close succession come close to leveling the game up for the Nomads. We couldn't however get that last bit of luck or as they say "Rub of the green," to put it even and the rest of the first half is a back and forth battle between the Nomads and the Eagles. As the half draws to a close Arnold get themselves a free kick well within shooting range and shoot they did but the young gloves between the posts

makes an excellent save to ensure Arnold don't go into the break with an additional cushion. Half time: Nomads 0-1 Arnold The half seemed to repeat the events of the first as after 15 or so minutes into the second half Arnold were pushing forward again and looking likely to score another, it seemed Nomads lacked the energy and were just taking a rest, and on the 65th minute James Price scores the second for the travelling side. The second goal must of finally awoke the Nomads side as within a minute they answer back in the form of pacey striker Joe Hartopp, the goal came after a surge in midfield which was seemingly non-existent before, Nomads finally have some control and stability. After a foul was called against Nomads a big fight broke out with the resulting being both sides lose a man. This put a little more cautious style onto the game, nobody wants an early shower. Arnold almost made it 3 but the defence found where they had hidden their confidence and managed to halt the oncoming attack and relay the pressure onto Arnold's defence, the pressure earned Nomads a free kick outside the box but only just, as the Nomads player steps up he unleashes a monstrous shot heading straight for the noggin' of a Arnold defender who put his arm up in protection of his face much to relief his wallet because a replacement passport, driver and any other photograph would have been expensive. The downside to the defenders escape from a makeover was a penalty. Daz Taylor steps up for Nomads and bravely fires it low into the corner, the keeper guessing the right direction almost gets his body in the way, probably wishing his head was as attractive to footballs as his defensive friends' but Nomads equalise and put an evenly fought game, well even. With the final 10 minutes it was anyone’s for the taking but in the end both teams share a point each and although they both probably expected more they can be happy that they all go home with the faces they came with. Final score Nomads 2-2 Arnold Full Report is available on the Nomads’ website www.pitchero.com/clubs/ansteynomadsfc

A Brief history of the Anstey Nomads F.C. The Nomads were formed in 1947 and were champions of the Leicestershire Senior League in the seasons 1951-52 and 1953-54. The following season the Club recorded its’ highest ever attendance of 4,500 against the Athenian League side Hayes in the 2nd round of the FA Amateur Cup. But just one year later the Club decided to join the Central Alliance. In 1966-67 the East Midlands Regional League was formed, mainly from Clubs in the Central Alliance, and of the six seasons the Nomads spent in this League, they gained a top four place in three of them. In 1994-95 the Nomads created history by winning both the Leicestershire FA Senior Cup and the Junior Cup in the same season. In 2008-2009 season the Nomads had one of their most successful seasons by winning the Leicestershire Senior League, The Battle of Britain Cup, The Rollestone Charity Cup and The Beacon Bitter League Cup. Our first season in the EMCL 2009/2010 saw the Nomads finish bottom but our good reputation helped us not get relegated and we stayed in the EMCL Season 2011-12 Nomads were in the F.A Cup for the first time in our history The 13/14 season was a time of transition for the Nomads, with some struggle, we managed to remain in the EMCL. Nomads also had their first Under 18's Floodlit team; they had an impressive season with several players stepping up to our senior sides. 2014/15 Rob Harris became first team manager alongside former Manager Jimmy Withers; Nomads' continued in with Youth development with the Under18's floodlit side, and also will debuted a new Under 16's side. 2015/16 Rob and Jimmy look to continue the form the ended on last season and have a successful season after pulling Nomads out of transitional stage, Nomads will be fielding an U21s side instead of the Reserve side in an attempt to continue our youth development programme. We’ll also continue with an U18’s team for the 3rd year running.

A brief history of Barrow Town F.C. Football in Barrow upon Soar has its' origins in the late 19th century. The population of the village at that time would have numbered around 1000, compared with around 7000 today. The team, known as the Barrow Rising Stars were based at The Railway Inn (now the Soar bridge), and played their football near the Mill. Members of the Loughborough and District League, they were obviously formidable opposition as their record shows they were winners of Division 1 in 1901/2 and 1902/3 and also Division 2 champions in 1911/12. Cup success included the Bass Charity Cup, Rolleston Cup, and the County Cup. In one particular season four trophies came their way. The early years of the century saw the birth of the Old Boys (now Barrow Town). This team also played down "Mill Lane", and comprised mainly of boys from the village grammar school, their record though did not compare with the stars. After the Second World War, The Old Boys reformed in 1947 and following a public meeting at The Working Men's Club, entered the Leicestershire Senior League with immediate impact. They reached the semi-final of The Senior Cup but were beaten by Whitwick Colliery. The competition also included Leicester City Reserves. In 1968/69 The Old Boys finished runners-up in Division 2 and were promoted to what was then Division 1. Managed by much respected local man Billy Williamson, they were also winners of The Loughborough Charity Cup and The Sileby Cup, (later renamed The Billy Williamson trophy in his honour). Soon after Barrow moved to their current headquarters at Riverside Park under the new title of Barrow Town. The success of 68/69 was emulated by the team of 92/93 managed by two more local favourites Arthur Chadburn and Colin Sykes. This team gained promotion to the Premier Division as champions. The 94/95 season was a landmark in Barrow's history with a number of records being broken. Highest ever placings for the 1st and 2nd teams. Ian Hunter's haul of 61 league and cup goals. 119 goals scored, with an 18 game unbeaten run-in, culminating in being pipped to the Premiership title by one point. The team again consisted of the nucleus of the promotion winning side, under the same successful management team. In recent years, the club has grown in stature and maintained their Premier Division status. Three times winners of The Loughborough Charity Cup, defeating Coalville 3-1 in 96/97, Ibstock 1-0 in 98/99 (the competition's centenary year), and under Richard Pitman defeating Shepshed Dynamo on penalties in 2000/1 after the teams were locked at 2-2 after extra time. Riverside Park has undergone several improvements in recent years, most notably the addition of floodlighting for both the main pitch and training area; a new clubhouse and changing rooms; a 50 seater grandstand; covered standing paddock; and new dugouts. The recent amalgamation of all junior, youth and senior teams, makes Barrow Town one of the largest football organisations in the county, which now caters for soccer from under eight to senior level.
