Anstey Nomads F.C. vs Blaby & Whetstone F.C. A big welcome to all supporters, players, and officials for this afternoon’s East Midlands Counties League fixture. Today we host another Leicestershire battle as we welcome Blaby & Whetstone to Davidsons Homes Park for the final fixture in the EMCL for both sides. Both Anstey and Blaby have had a fairly respectable season and with Blaby sit only 2 points below Nomads it means that if they win today they will climb above us and finish in 6th leaving us in a still respectable 7th. This would be 4th consecutive away match for Blaby & Whetstone, with only 1 win out of the 3 played, in the last two weeks they struggled to gain any momentum against Holbrook, losing 5-0. The week before they played the eventual league winners St Andrews but gave them a good show, just missing out with a 3-2 scoreline. Nomads have played their last 2 games at home, both Tuesday night games, this week we drew against 5th placed Aylestone Park, both teams having spells of dominance and both leaving on equal terms at 2-2. The week before saw us host Borrowash in a game of two halves, Nomads struggled in the first half going down by 1, but came out with a much better showing to win the game by 2 goals to 1 with goals from the Armson brothers. We’d also like to welcome our partners in sport Anstey Swifts and all parents, volunteers and supporters who have come down to enjoy our community day, with a firework show on later tonight let’s hope the season ends with an explosive game. Whatever the result of the game, it should be a great matchup to end a fantastic season, I hope Anstey & Blaby fans will enjoy the final 90 minutes of the 2015/16 EMCL Season!

Around the Counties by Stan Wilton Midweek saw ANSTEY NOMADS come from behind to extend their already impressive home record. Idris Kabongo had given BORROWASH VICTORIA a 35th minute lead but goals from Stephen and Jonathon Armson inside five minutes around the hour mark gave Nomads the points. GRAHAM STREET PR IMS scored two early goals through Kurt Allison and Jack Tyson in their game against KIMBERLEY MINERS WELFARE, but the visitors fought back before half time to level with two goals from Chris Sankey. James Rushby restored Prims advantage on the hour and Michael Fitzhugh made it 4-2. A last minute Graham Wells goal was all that stood between HOLWELL SPORTS and BARROW TOWN, while the unexpected revival of GREENWOOD MEADOWS saw them come from behind to take a point from their visit to RADCLIFFE OLYMPIC. Conor Moore on 31 minutes and Ewan Sweeting five minutes later had given Olympic a two-goal cushion by the interval. But six minutes after the restart Joshua Gordon pulled one back for the Greens and put new life into them. Dwain Millor completed the come-back for a deserved point eleven minutes from the end. There was high drama at Canal Street as well where an 89th minute winner from Shay Brennan in front of a crowd of 146 set up the momentum for ST ANDREWS to clinch the title on Saturday. Paul Pallett on 13 minutes and Brennan on 22 had made things look comfortable for the Saints, but BLABY & WHETSTONE ATHLETIC had other ideas and goals from Tom Hill and Alex Morris midway through the second half set up a nervy finish before Brennan struck late on for his second goal of the game. Two Isaac Minnot goals, one in each half, gave HOLBROOK SPORTS a comfortable home win over ARNOLD TOWN, and two first half goals from Conor Ward were responsible for giving STAPENHILL all three points on their visit to BORROWASH VICTORIA for whom Alexander Marshall’s 67th minute goal proved to be a mere cdonsolation. SATURDAY’S ACTION …and so…Set up by Shay Brennan’s late winner on Tuesday evening ST ANDREWS duly clinched the league title with an 8-0 thumping of lowly ARNOLD TOWN who just couldn’t repeat the performance of the previous week when they won for the first time in 18 games. Shay Brennan could only manage one goal in the romp, the fourth, and remains two goals adrift of Blaby & Whetstone’s Aaron Preston in the race for the League’s Golden Boot award. Goals from Elliot Putman, Joe Latham, Robert Morgan, Steve Hart and Brennan put the Saints five up at the interval. Hart, last season’s Golden Boot winner with Bardon Hill, completed his hat-trick and Morgan added his second of the game. At the conclusion League Chairman David Holland assisted by Board Member Graham Parker presented the championship

trophy to the happy Saints. Relegated GREENWOOD MEADOWS were at it again, winning at STAPENHILL having come from behind for the second time this week, to take their points tally into double figures. Tom Ellerton had given Stapenhill a third minute lead but second half goals from Dwain Millor and Dwayne Brown gave the Greens their third victory of the season. ASHBY IVANHOE, RADFORD and SOUTH NORMANTON ATHLETIC are all battling for runners-up spot, each with one game left, and with the first two mentioned out of action today Athletic took advantage to beat visiting RADCLIFFE OLYMPIC although it took two second half Luke Crosby penalties to overturn the 53rd minute lead given to the visitors by Ewan Sweeting. HOLBROOK SPORTS made it two home wins in a week by beating BLABY & WHETSTONE ATHLETIC 5-0 with Isaac Minnot getting a hat-trick to take his tally of goals for the week to five. Jermaine Palmer and Kyle Hazeldine were the Brookies other marksmen. Two late goals in the last five minutes from Adam Joynson and Nuno Monteiro gave AYLESTONE PARK the points against visiting ELLISTOWN & IBSTOCK UNITED. Monteiro had earlier given Park a tenth minute advantage only for Joseph Neal to restore parity fifteen minutes later. Two Nduoma Chilaka goals, one in each half, gave BARROW TOWN victory over BORROWASH VICTORIA.

Nomads and Aylestone leave on level terms. Nomads and Aylestone Park draw 2-2. By Reece Preston-Hayes The final midweek game for the first team this season as we host fellow Leicestershire side Aylestone Park in a battle for final positions at the top end of the table. Aylestone currently sat at 5th and Nomads 6th, Nomads need a win in order to overtake The Park in the top 5. Both teams start with some early chances, Joe Hartopp, Nomads top scorer, breaking out wide but could not find a way into the box. Aylestone Park replied with their own chances and only ten minutes into the game found themselves leading the way.

Just shy of the ten minute mark a scramble in the Nomads box lead to an opportunity that Aylestone weren’t going to waste, Kieran Neat living up to his name by cleanly slotting the ball into the net. Aylestone came close to a second not too long after with a ball over the top finding its’ way onto the end of a very hit volley but Nomads able to clear the danger, Nomads get the ball up the pitch quickly, as Aylestone call for offside but no signal given as Joe Hartopp speeds his way towards the box, a last ditch but very well timed tackle from the last defender stopping a chance to go 1v1. Nomads begin to pick up pace, Ash Day in the middle of park making room to move but not able to find a pass before being closed down. Joe Hartopp found himself back in front of goal, a well placed shot would have made it past the keeper on another day but The Park’s keeper reacted bang on time saving the shot with his leg, however Daz Taylor’s nose for danger came sniffing onto the rebound and he fired home the equalising goal. Both teams now in the game for the final 15 minutes of the first half and Nomads seemed to be getting on top with Aylestone getting slightly frustrated that things are slipping out of their grasp. Just as it felt like a goal was coming the half draws in, really the wrong time for Nomads but hopefully we can start the second half as we finished the first. With the second half getting the action going again Nomads continued to press like they were before the half. Ash Day found space for Nomads on the 51st minute and put us in-front (as well as forcing me to quickly chomp on the chips in my mouth to sing along with the Noisy Nomads.) It would seem things were going to be a repeat of last week with a comeback from Nomads to put us in charge. Aylestone Park weren’t out of it yet though and despite some frustrations with eachother and some decisions, they continued to show passion that would be rewarded on the 71st minute when Joeul Potter finished of a set piece play to level the game. Substitute Joshua Unsworth almost snatched a victory for Nomads with the last chance of the game, he found himself on the end of a cross inside the box, and blasted the ball quickly towards goal but his shot goes high of the goal. A fairly even game with both teams having spells of dominance, and a fair result. Final Score: Anstey Nomads 2-2 Aylestone Park

A Brief history of the Anstey Nomads F.C. The Anstey Nomads were formed in 1947 and were champions of the Leicestershire Senior League in the seasons 1951-52 and 1953-54. The following season the Club recorded its’ highest ever attendance of 4,500 against the Athenian League side Hayes in the 2nd round of the FA Amateur Cup. But just one year later the Club decided to join the Central Alliance. In 1966-67 the East Midlands Regional League was formed, mainly from Clubs in the Central Alliance, and of the six seasons the Nomads spent in this League, they gained a top four place in three of them. In 1971 Anstey Nomads were chosen to feature on Bartholomew’s Football map of England and Wales, our badge and information (albeit with incorrect founding date) is listed 5th between Andover and Arsenal! In 1994-95 the Nomads created history by winning both the Leicestershire FA Senior Cup and the Junior Cup in the same season. In 2008-2009 season the Nomads had one of their most successful seasons by winning the Leicestershire Senior League, The Battle of Britain Cup, The Rollestone Charity Cup and The Beacon Bitter League Cup. Our first season in the EMCL 2009/2010 saw the Nomads finish bottom but our good reputation helped us not get relegated and we stayed in the EMCL. Season 2011-12 Nomads were in the F.A Cup for the first time in our history The 13/14 season was a time of transition for the Nomads, with some struggle, we managed to remain in the EMCL. Nomads also had their first Under 18's Floodlit team; they had an impressive season with several players stepping up to our senior sides. 2014/15 Rob Harris became first team manager alongside former Manager Jimmy Withers; Nomads' continued in with Youth development with the Under18's floodlit side, and debuted a new Under 16's side. 2015/16 Rob and Jimmy look to continue the form the ended on last season and have a successful season after pulling Nomads out of transitional stage, Nomads will be fielding an U21s side instead of the Reserve side in an attempt to continue our youth development programme. We will also continue with an U18’s team for the 3rd year running.

A brief history of Blaby & Whetstone F.C. Whetstone Athletic F C was founded in 1928 playing in the Leicester City League until 1967 when they were elected to diversion one of the Leicestershire Senior league. The Club achieved promotion as runners-up in 1971 & 1975, but unfortunately, relegation followed on both occasions. The club moved from the Warwick Road Recreation Ground in 1993 to maintain their Senior League status with that saw a name change to Blaby and Whetstone Athletic F.C. The club integrating with the boys club structure, who were running sides from U8 to U17, an Old Boys side on Sundays and a midweek floodlit U18 side. Season, 2013/14, saw Blaby & Whetstone achieve their most successful season to date. Under the leadership of Steve Orme, the first team achieved their highest league position in the EMCL, finishing fourth in the league. A great run in the FA Cup saw the club reach the second preliminary round for the first time. The season finale saw the club play at the home of Leicester City Football Club to clinch the Westerby Cup for the first time in our history. The first team success rubbed off on the reserve team and saw them clinch the Leicestershire Senior League Division One title under the leadership of Gaz Allen. Season 2014/2015 saw Blaby off to a good start in the League but could not reproduce the form in the Westerby Cup and went out to St Andrews in round 1. Winning the Westerby Cup last season earned the right to face a Leicester City X1 at Holmes Park and after putting in a good performance, they finally went down 4-2. The FA Cup run was again at the fore and 3 wins should have been 4 at home to a lacklustre Stourbridge side, who squeezed a draw and comfortably won the home replay 4-1. Having seen off Radford in the FA Vase, Borrowash were the visitors and in a very winnable game Blaby threw a 1 -0 lead away going down 2-1. An early finish in the League Cup meant Blaby were clear to concentrate on the League and were top some 4 points clear but a spell in the New Year saw that lead crumble away and had to gain points in the last few games to hold on to 5th spot. Disappointment overall but Steve Orme continues in charge this season and with some new signings and nearly all of last season’s squad is confident Blaby will be up there again.

The End of a Successful Season for the Anstey Nomads So here, we are at the end to another season and looking back, it has been a successful season for the Nomads this year. There is no doubts that there has been ups and downs, no season would be complete without disappointments and surprises. This year the first team built on our performances of last season and moving out of the transition period of managers we have been in for the seasons before, Rob Harris and Jimmy Withers at the helm and many players from last year returning to put in another year full of dedication. Our first team got off to a good start in the year, in the F.A. Vase we hosted Friar Lane & Epworth, who are managed by former Nomads manager Nick Brett, not only that but many former Nomad players were lined up against us but the real Nomads shined through and saw us through to next round against Clifton All Whites, who were one of the most humble clubs we’ve welcomed to Davidsons Homes Park over the year, despite their kindness we made sure we were clinical on the pitch. Moving into the 1st round proper of the Vase for the first time in 5 years, however as we travelled to Nuneaton Griff we found ourselves in a deadlock, in the end Nuneaton prevailed. Back in the league Nomads had some mixed results but mainly positive and sat in the upper half of the table, in late November we lost at Borrowash but this marked the last loss of 2015 as we went until February without a loss, we were eventually defeated by league winners St Andrews at home, this being the only loss at Davidsons Homes Park for the first team. The first team currently sit at 6th, with 61 points which is the highest amount of points we’ve achieved in the EMCL as well as the best position we’ve achieved so far. We’d like to thank all the supporters who have stuck it out over the year, home and away, without your support their wouldn’t be much of a club to run, and thanks to your continued support we are yet again at the top end of the attendance table, currently second, if we have 288+ turnout today then we could just slip ahead into first but non-the-less thank you to all the fans, Noisy or not!
