Saturday 3rd October 2015 Anstey Nomads F.C. vs Clifton All Whites F.C. A big welcome to all supporters, players, and officials for this afternoon’s F.A. Vase 2nd Round Qual. Today we welcome a team that has seen many stars come through its ranks, they are famous in their county for their connections. Clifton found their way to this round of the Vase by seeing out Belper United by 4-2 but only after extra time! Anstey Nomads also won by 4-2 against Friar Lane & Epworth but the fixture was settled without the need for extra time after a very controlling performance from the Nomads. Both Clifton and Nomads are doing well in their respective leagues and this game could go either way, I’m not clued up about Clifton and how they play and I’d assume that wildcard aspect by come into play for both sides. Whatever the result of the game, it should be a great matchup and I hope Anstey and Clifton fans alike will enjoy this one!
Key Things to watch for: An important F.A. Vase game is a must win, no doubt that. Both teams will be looking to take chances and to take risks. However, with risks comes mistakes and then opportunities for opposing team to counter. Nomads have looked good on the counter in recent games but have struggled against counters so this one is going to be a game of football chess and whoever is bold enough to make an ambitious move could win or lose the game.

ASHBY IVANHOE extended their lead at the top of the table to nine points with a narrow 2-1 home win over AYLESTONE PARK. Royce Turville gave Ashby the lead on 22 minutes, but Lee Tyers levelled five minutes before the break. Ivanhoe then took only a matter of seconds to go back in front through Luke Thorogood and then missed the chance to extend the lead in stoppage time at the end of the game by missing a penalty. Second place RADFORD missed the chance to stay in contention when they could only draw 2-2 on their visit to BARROW TOWN, but the game did extend their unbeaten league run to six games. John King put Radford in front on 17 minutes but George Himan levelled just before the break. Himan then put Barrow in front midway through the second half, but the lead only lasted three minutes before David Udoh brought the scores back level again. SOUTH NORMANTON ATHLETIC eased themselves into third place courtesy of a1-1 draw at KIMBERLEY MINERS WELFARE. Ashley Whitt put them ahead on 54 minutes but four minutes later Joshua Stevenson levelled and the contestants settled for a point each. HOLBROOK SPORTS slipped up though going down to two Tom Hill goals at BLABY & WHETSTONE ATHLETIC in front of a crowd of just ten. The battle of the basement ended with an emphatic win for ELLISTOWN & IBSTOCK UNITED. They were three goals better than GREENWOOD MEADOW on the day and the defeat sent the Greens back to the foot of the table. All the goals came in the first half through a brace from Lee Hillier and one from Peter Horton. ANSTEY NOMADS claimed a place in the top six with their fifth consecutive win. GRAHAM STREET PRIMS were the latest side to go down to them with league top marksman Joe Hartopp extending his good run to nine goals with the opener on 18 minutes. Joe Harris got the second on 65. Steve Cox scored after eleven minutes for the only goal of a hard fought game, which gave ARNOLD TOWN the points at Eagle Valley from visiting STAPENHILL. Quietly slipping up to third place and extending their current unbeaten run to seven games are ST ANDREWS. Their latest success came as a result of a 1-0 home win over BORROWASH VICTORIA with Callum Earls getting the only goal after 29 minutes.
NOMADS IN THEIR PRIME Nomads extended their recent form with a 2-0 home victory against Graham Street Prims. By Reece Preston-Hayes The 25th of September and Nomads look forward to a what should be a good match against travelling Graham Street Prims, Nomads are on a good run at the moment and no disrespect to the opponents but Nomads the clear favourite to come out on top in another game today. Graham Street Prims got the ambitious chances started, with an early cross coming over and an ambitious aerial volley is hit towards goal but Nomads keeper Taylor McMillan handles it well. Nomads answered back passing around well in the final third of the pitch as Zak Harris, Joe Hartopp, and Nathan Dale move it towards the box but the end cross is picked up by the Prims keeper. Nomads had a good chance after being award a free kick, they played it out wide and Nathan Dale tapping it back to Simon Richmond crossing it in towards Joe Harris who’s attempt just fades wide, a quick chance for the Nomads there that could of easily opened up the scoring but play continues. Nomads found themselves with another free kick as Graham Street Prims struggle to take the ball out of our possession cleanly, the ball comes in towards the box but the keeper is the only one at the end of this attempt. 20 minutes into the game so far, Nomads fire a long ball over the top and East Midlands Counties League top goal scorer Joe Hartopp plucks it out the sky runs with the ball and slides it past the keeper to put Nomads 1-0 up. The Prims looked to equalise with a chance but it is not creative enough to beat a solid Nomads back line, another free kick given to the Nomads and the Ref having a stern word and a card to ensure that these silly tackles
stop from now. The free kick the last attempt in the half as the signals for the break and Nomads lead by 1 goal to nil. Second half, back on the way, Prims would hope the break would give them a fresh start as they look to equalise in this game but Nomads are going to be looking for a cushion to ensure victory is safe today. Nomads using the wings once again very close, Joe Hartopp crossing it goal-wards and Joe Harris much like in the first half reaches the ball well but again just slightly off target. Just over an hour into the game Joe Harris WOULD hit the target this time using his outstretched leg to fire the ball into the net from a Nomads corner. Joe Harris has been working hard to get a goal this game and fully deserves this one as he puts Nomads 2-0 up now. Graham Streets Prims had a close chance coming at goal it took Taylor two stretching saves to see it out for a corner and keep the clean sheet so far, the corner whipped it but nothing is at the end of this attempt and the ball is back with the Nomads. A substitution by the Nomads now as Steve Armson and Nathan Dale come off for Simon Alexander and Jake Rouse respectively. Both Steve and Nathan had a good game causing plenty of trouble the latter of which making his first start (I hope) for the Nomads after appearing off the bench in previous games and certainly didn’t look out of place in the start XI. Nomads continued their chances but the game evened out in terms of possession as the game comes to a close and Nomads deservedly take all 3points from a game they controlled well from the start. Final Score: Nomads 2-0 Graham Street Prims
NAPPING NOMADS ‘NOCKED OUT THE CUP! Nomads were knocked out the Leicestershire Senior Cup after a 32 comeback from Melton Mowbray. By Reece Preston-Hayes Tuesday 29th September, Nomads playing host to Melton Mowbray in the Jelson Homes Leicestershire Senior Cup. Anstey have been on good form recently and should go in as favourites but if history is any indication then Melton have just as much chances to topple the inform Nomads side. Nomads got started early, looking to play just like we did against Graham Street Prims, a cross from out wide picked up by the defence though and Melton countering very strong, as they keep the ball in Nomads ball against a pressuring Nomads. The play ends with an ambitious long shot struck like a rocket but Taylor, Nomads own rocket defence system to speak, diverts the ball for a corner. Joe Hartopp came close from a chance out wide hitting the crossbar and then coming out to Melton as they try to counter act but it’s stopped by Nomads in the midfield and Zak Harris moves the ball into the box and is brought down needlessly by the Melton defence. A penalty kick awarded as Nathan Dale steps up hoping to put Nomads in front, he fires it and it smashes into the net, Nomads 1-0. Melton still playing well despite being down one goal, they look very good in control of the ball but cannot seem to find that final touch to put them equal in this match up. Melton awarded a free kick after a silly tackle from Nomads. Melton step up for the free kick and they must have been watching too much of that Rugby world cup, hitting ball perfectly down the middle, just a bit too high as it flies over the crossbar! Nathan Dale had a close chance to put Nomads even more infront, he comes through the middle and a left footed strike at goal but it’s just gone curling wide this time. Nomads having some more chances as the game draws to a half, Melton countering still occasionally but they are dealt with before they become too threaten and Nomads go into the break with a 1 goal lead much like they did on Saturday against EMCL opponents Graham Street Prims. Nomads getting the second half started with plenty of ambition with lots of early chances in the second half, Nathan Dale and Simon Richmond having some fine attempts but still 1-0. Nomads would get their 2nd goal after playing out wide and then crossing in it to Nathan Dale who’s first go is stopped by the keeper but the loose ball is opens up the goal line and with the keeper not able to recover to his feet quick enough, Nathan puts Nomads 2-0 up.
Melton came close to getting a penalty when some handball shouts in the box after a dangerous counter attack but the linesman saving the Nomads with his offside flag held hide before the decision. Melton continue to attack as Nomads seemingly sitting back on 2-0. Nomads made all three subs at once as, Nick Reeves, Nathan Dale, and Jon Armson come off for Oliver Creese, Harry Calver, and Olly Preston come on. Melton still seemingly in control of possession despite being 2 goals down as they look to try to claw back. Nomads had a chance themselves as Creese out wide causes some danger until a crunching tackle takes him down. The reaction from the Melton man (BIASED WARNING) is absolutely dreadful, getting head to head with young Creese who tries to put him at arm’s length only to be for them both to punished for the Ref and linesman non-involvement in the scuffle, 3 days later and still can’t get my head around that one. The Nomads free kick doesn’t come to any danger and Melton come back at the Nomads and they get their first goal of the game against a Nomads defence that was too relaxed. Melton would waste absolutely no time, confidence on their side and a bit of fire that Nomads lacked tonight and they equalised only a minute after their first goal. Melton continue to dominate possession as the game runs close to an end, extra time would be played if there is no winner at the end of 90. Melton however would ensure this wouldn’t happen with a lighting quick break passing it around they top the play with a fantastic goal. The game fades to its conclusion as the Ref blows his whistle, Nomads started well but they sat back too much and let Melton have control, and Melton had much more ambitious than Nomads so they deserve to move forward into the next round. We’d like to wish Melton a good cup run, and we hope they all the way, that way at-least we can say we lost to the winners of the cup! Final Score: Nomads 2-3 Melton Mowbray

A Brief history of the Anstey Nomads F.C. The Nomads were formed in 1947 and were champions of the Leicestershire Senior League in the seasons 1951-52 and 1953-54. The following season the Club recorded its’ highest ever attendance of 4,500 against the Athenian League side Hayes in the 2nd round of the FA Amateur Cup. But just one year later the Club decided to join the Central Alliance. In 1966-67 the East Midlands Regional League was formed, mainly from Clubs in the Central Alliance, and of the six seasons the Nomads spent in this League, they gained a top four place in three of them. In 1971 Anstey Nomads were chosen to feature on Bartholomew’s Football map of England and Wales, our badge and information (albeit with incorrect founding date) is listed 5th between Andover and Arsenal! In 1994-95 the Nomads created history by winning both the Leicestershire FA Senior Cup and the Junior Cup in the same season. In 2008-2009 season the Nomads had one of their most successful seasons by winning the Leicestershire Senior League, The Battle of Britain Cup, The Rollestone Charity Cup and The Beacon Bitter League Cup. Our first season in the EMCL 2009/2010 saw the Nomads finish bottom but our good reputation helped us not get relegated and we stayed in the EMCL. Season 2011-12 Nomads were in the F.A Cup for the first time in our history The 13/14 season was a time of transition for the Nomads, with some struggle, we managed to remain in the EMCL. Nomads also had their first Under 18's Floodlit team; they had an impressive season with several players stepping up to our senior sides. 2014/15 Rob Harris became first team manager alongside former Manager Jimmy Withers; Nomads' continued in with Youth development with the Under18's floodlit side, and also debuted a new Under 16's side. 2015/16 Rob and Jimmy look to continue the form the ended on last season and have a successful season after pulling Nomads out of transitional stage, Nomads will be fielding an U21s side instead of the Reserve side in an attempt to continue our youth development programme. We’ll also continue with an U18’s team for the 3rd year running.

In addition, for the infamous ‘All White’ nickname which caused controversy amongst some quarters in the mid-nineties leading to the ‘official’ scrapping of that tag. Players such as Gary Birtles, Jermaine Pennent, Darren Huckerby, Jermaine Jenas, Michael Johnson to name a few have all come through the clubs youth structure over the past years. Clifton FC have also been successful on the pitch, formerly playing in the Midland’s League and Notts Alliance the club also reached the Third Round of the FA Vase in 1975/76. Winning the Senior League Cup in 2006, a year later the Reserves won their first NSL honour gaining the First Division Championship under the guidance of James Turner & Chris Driffill and in 2010 the same management team took the clubs first team to deliver the Senior Division title for the first time in the clubs history. On the back of this success and the development of the Green Lane facility the club decided to make the step up to the CML and hopes the recent progression continues.
Today’s Match Ball Sponsor: Nomads would like to thank Audrey Preston for sponsoring today’s match ball. All of you should know this VERY NOISY Nomad, who often comes out with some of the most bizarre sayings and often gets the fans in the stands having a good a time. She is certainly no Namby-Pamby so again we would like to thank her for sponsoring today’s match ball and her continued support to the Nomads!
A Brief Chat with Nomads Chairman Mike Prizeman. Reece – Interviewer Mike Prizeman – Nomads Chairman Ahead of our big F.A. Vase game, I had a brief talk with Nomads’ new Chairman Mike Prizeman, who has been part of our club for a few months now. First of Mike, Tell us about yourself and your background in Football? “Well, I was previously the President of Ellistown & Ibstock and I was given the opportunity to come to, what I feel is a good club. There is not many clubs like Nomads in Leicestershire. Nomads have a great ground, and great people that keep it running.” What are your aims as the Anstey Nomads Chairman? “The main aim is to give confidence to everyone in the club, we can have a club that players enjoy coming to play and people enjoying coming to watch and being a part of. I think building the club as well as the team is of massive importance to me.” The F.A. Vase is approaching us fast; we face Clifton All Whites, a team with obvious history and a list of alumni that have made it to the higher stages. What are your thoughts as we approach this big game? “Clifton are certainly a good side and when you play in the F.A. Vase you get one opportunity, I think we have got the team that CAN play, and I think the management is extremely good here. There’s no reason we shouldn’t be able to win this game, and I think to win this game puts the club back on the map, it adds prestige to our club and I think everyone that puts so much effort into the club deserve to see us in that spotlight.” Thanks for your brief time Mike. Let’s hope for an amazingly fantastic F.A. Vase tie and I glad you’ve got honourable goals for our club. “Thank you Reece, I appreciate it!”
