Saturday 17th October 2015 Anstey Nomads F.C. vs Gedling Miners Welfare F.C. A big welcome to all supporters, players, and officials for this afternoon’s East Midlands Counties League fixture. Today’s match should be a very interesting one indeed, as Nomads host Nottinghamshire side Gedling Miners Welfare. Both teams have had different starts to the season as Gedling currently sit 14th and Nomads say 6th. With Nomads good run of form as of late and the gap in position in the table many would expect Nomads to take the three points but you cannot write of Gedling just yet as they recorded a good 2-0 win against St Andrews and may thrive with the underdog label to pull off their second surprise of the week. Just a quick heads up for the supporters today, there will be no HOT food for sale due to the hospitality manager deciding Ibiza was better than Anstey, but we will be selling cold, delicious cobs at £1 each! Whatever the result of the game, it should be a great matchup and I hope Anstey and Gedling fans alike will enjoy this one!
Key Things to watch for: I can see this one being yet another game FULL to the brim with fast pace attacks and even faster counters. It could be one of these attacks that seals the game, so today is all about how well the defence and keeper can prevent chances converting into goals. However the strikers must insure they finish their chances as although I predict there will be plenty of chances I can’t predict too many goals for either side.

Around the Counties by Stan Wilton WEEK END ACTION ARNOLD TOWN could not keep up the pace in the league on Saturday, going down at home to BORROWASH VICTORIA. The improving Vics went ahead through Alex Marshall in the 59th minute. Owen Brown increased that advantage ten minutes from the end but Ross Cherry pulled one back almost immediately, and that was how it stayed. ASHBY IVANHOE slipped up, losing at home for the first time this season to a SOUTH NORMANTON ATHLETIC side who have moved up to fourth and are beginning to be a title threat. Lee Fell put the Shiners in front in first half stoppage time, but goals from Chris Waldrum on 50 minutes and Danny Quinn four minutes later turned the tide in favour of the league leaders. Michael Lyons restored parity on 69 minutes and Tom Lewis popped up with the Shiners winner thirteen minutes from time. This gave ST ANDREWS the opportunity to become more than a distant threat, and they took full advantage beating visiting HOLBROOK SPORTS by three clear goals. Andy Fell after three minutes gave them the best possible start and second half goals from Lewis Turland on 54 minutes and Ryan Hodkinson on 85 sealed the win. A goal from Keaton Towers after 35 minutes looked to have put BLABY & WHETSTONE ATHLETIC on track for three points, but the ever-improving ANSTEY NOMADS hit back for a point in the second half through league leading goalscorer Joe Hartopp after 58 minutes. RADFORD took advantage of Ashby Ivanhoe’s slip to cut the lead at the top to nine points, but with four games in hand. They ran out easy winners at ELLISTOWN & IBSTOCK UNITED by 4-0 with goals from Jahred Russell (4) and John King (26) in the first half, and James Slack (80) and David Udoh (81). HOLWELL SPORTS don’t seem to have recovered from their FA Cup run and their latest slump was by a nap hand at home to AYLESTONE PARK. Matters were not helped by a ninth minute own goal which put the visitors in charge, and from then on scoring was fairly regular with Rich Lewis’s brace making him the highest individual scorer of the day. Further goals from Kieran Neat and Ben Harris sealed an easy win. Goals either side of the half time interval from Jawanza Grant and Mitch Slawson put KIMBERLEY MINERS WELFARE in charge of their game against GEDLING MINERS WELFARE, who could only find Malaky Eshelby’s 67th minute reply a consolation. After a goal-less first half BARROW TOWN surprisingly went down at Earl Shilton Albion in the Jelson Leicestershire FA Senior Cup by 2-1. Ben Law being Town’s marksman. In the Nottinghamshire FA Senior Cup Central Midlands Leaguers Selston saw off RADCLIFFE OLYMPIC with a 4-2 win in extra time after the scores had been tied 2-2 after 90 minutes. Aaron Martin and Ryan Smith were the Radcliffe scorers. STAPENHILL’s second win of the week saw them make progress in the Derbyshire FA Senior Challenge Cup with a 2-1 win at Glapwell courtesy of goals from Tom Liversedge and Alex Rowland. GRAHAM STREET PRIMS went out of their second cup competition in a week to Central Midlands League opposition when they lost at Swanwick Pentrich Road. Jim Rushby put Prims ahead on 37 minutes but the outstanding Chris Turner levelled in the last first half minute. Spectators were then treated to a fantastic sight as the Vulcan aeroplane made a splendid diagonal run across the ground on its very last flight. Mark Farthing missed a 64th minute spot kick for the home side and Prims had Ben Rushby sent off for two bookables, before Guy Wilding prevented an extra half hour by popping in the Swanwick winner in the fourth minute of added time.
BLABY HOLD NOMADS TO A POINT Nomads faced off against a decent Blaby side who managed to hold Nomads to one point despite many chance for us to take all 3 points. By Reece Preston-Hayes 10th October, a week after Nomads impressive win against Clifton All Whites in the Vase. Nomads would hope to continue our improving form as we travel to fellow Leicestershire side Blaby & Whetstone Athletic. Nomads currently sat towards the top end of table and Blaby near the middle of the table would be the perfect ingredients for a great match up. Early on, it was the typical cliché of early chances but the Blaby keeper saves a very interesting and ambitious attempt from Nomads with Simon Richmond trying an aerial volley at goal. Blaby were ambitious too with the counter of the previous attack making its way down the wing before the cross is cleared out the box onto another Blaby player about half way between the box and the half way line, he fires it at goal but it remains 0-0. 15 minutes in, it remains even but Nomads coming forward with a chance Nick Reeves who has been praised not only by me but also by fellow supporters for his creativity over the past few weeks. Nick brings the ball into the middle of the pitch just outside the box and he unleashes a wicked shot but somehow the Blaby keeper stretching out as much as he could tips this one away, and the ball goes out for a Nomads corner. Corner coming in for the Nomads, as we continue this attack on the Blaby goal, Jake Rouse playing it to Nathan Dale, who plays the ball across the box to Simon Richmond, who puts it over to Joe Hartopp but the chance is knocked out by Blaby landing back at Jack Rouse who tries a long range shot, this time the danger is stopped for good as Blaby’s keeper holds on cleanly. Blaby had a free kick a short time after but again the Nomads defence doing exceptionally well to manage the danger and they return the pressure back to Blaby before winning a free kick for themselves. Blaby deals with the free kick and this stalemate continues. About 35 minutes into this match up, Blaby finding room on wing before trying to cut into the box, the man is stopped in his tracks as Daz Russell wins the ball but confusion around the ground in both biased and non-biased eyes as the Ref awards Blaby with a free kick in a very dangerous position. The ball whipped in and it looks as if there is some pulling as Blaby break through the defence and an easy header into the back of the net to open the scoring as Nomads for a brief moment looking less strong than we know they are. It’s been a very aerial game so far and Blaby have some strong aerial presence and as the half draws to a close the hosts go in one goal up!
The second half starts fast with Blaby looking very strong in the opening 5 minutes with two chances at goal prevented by Jon Armson via a couple of deflections and clearances. The whole defence continuing to play well despite the single anomaly that cost the goal. Nomads keeper Taylor also very much on form as chances come at him but he saves them nice and cleanly to keep Blaby at only a one goal lead. Nomads starting to pick up the pace with plenty of pacing up the pitch between the middle and the two strikers. 11 minutes into the second half and Nomads get the equaliser after building up pressure with previous chances, with some neat passing between Nathan Dale and Joe Hartopp, the latter one-on-one with the keeper and buries the shot to add another goal to his already leading tally in the league. Nomads continuing to attack very strong, Nick Reeves trying an ambitious shot but one that could only be tipped away by Blaby’s keeper much akin to his first half attempts. Nomads making their first substitution in this match as Jake Rouse comes off after picking up a little injury. His replacement is a young up and comer, one who doesn’t have too much experience at this step… Stacy Coore! All jokes aside Stacy, a strong player who can hold the ball well and release it to create plenty of chances for Nomads, we are happy to see him return after his enjoyable vacation in the States. Nomads yet again putting pressure on Blaby as Nick Reeves plays it towards Nathan Dale, who impressed fans in previous weeks but I will be honest and say he has not had too much say so far in this match up but a very venomous shot here shows that his performances are no fluke. The Blaby keeper by far Blaby’s man of the match as he tips the shot over the bar for a corner. Joe Hartopp almost made it 2 for Nomads as a long ball skips towards the box and Joe Hartopp tries to obtain possession in time but the space is closed down by the keeper and Joe can’t get a shot off. Nick Reeves coming in sight of the goal, he has forced the keeper to tip his shots away and with another ferocious attempt but this time the Blaby keeper cleanly saves it. Again almost all Nomads, sorry to seem biased but Nomads building plenty of momentum. The game is stopped for 10 minutes or so as all the match balls seemingly going missing but finally the game resumes. Nomads continue their assault Nick Reeves is there once more and yet this keeper, plenty of credit to him, stops another attempt as he alone holds Nomads to a draw with the game closing at 1-1.
Final Score: Blaby & Whetstone 1-1 Nomads

A Brief history of the Anstey Nomads F.C. The Nomads were formed in 1947 and were champions of the Leicestershire Senior League in the seasons 1951-52 and 1953-54. The following season the Club recorded its’ highest ever attendance of 4,500 against the Athenian League side Hayes in the 2nd round of the FA Amateur Cup. But just one year later the Club decided to join the Central Alliance. In 1966-67 the East Midlands Regional League was formed, mainly from Clubs in the Central Alliance, and of the six seasons the Nomads spent in this League, they gained a top four place in three of them. In 1971 Anstey Nomads were chosen to feature on Bartholomew’s Football map of England and Wales, our badge and information (albeit with incorrect founding date) is listed 5th between Andover and Arsenal! In 1994-95 the Nomads created history by winning both the Leicestershire FA Senior Cup and the Junior Cup in the same season. In 2008-2009 season the Nomads had one of their most successful seasons by winning the Leicestershire Senior League, The Battle of Britain Cup, The Rollestone Charity Cup and The Beacon Bitter League Cup. Our first season in the EMCL 2009/2010 saw the Nomads finish bottom but our good reputation helped us not get relegated and we stayed in the EMCL. Season 2011-12 Nomads were in the F.A Cup for the first time in our history The 13/14 season was a time of transition for the Nomads, with some struggle, we managed to remain in the EMCL. Nomads also had their first Under 18's Floodlit team; they had an impressive season with several players stepping up to our senior sides. 2014/15 Rob Harris became first team manager alongside former Manager Jimmy Withers; Nomads' continued in with Youth development with the Under18's floodlit side, and debuted a new Under 16's side. 2015/16 Rob and Jimmy look to continue the form the ended on last season and have a successful season after pulling Nomads out of transitional stage, Nomads will be fielding an U21s side instead of the Reserve side in an attempt to continue our youth development programme. We will also continue with an U18’s team for the 3rd year running.

A brief history of Gedling Miners Welfare F.C. The Club was formed in 1919, at the same time as the Notts Alliance Football league resumed playing football again after the First World War. In their first Season they finished 3rd in the League and won the League Cup by defeating Sneinton FC (now Carlton Town FC) 1 - 0. These were the good times at Plains Road and unfortunately, the Club has not had the same degree of success since then. At the end of Season 2001-02 Vic stepped aside as Manager and took up the post of Chairman of the Club. This left the way open for the appointment of Duncan Broad and Mark Allison as the management team for the start of the 2002-03 Season. They had the task of building a team to match the ambitions of the Club and this was achieved when at the end of the next Season we applied and were accepted into the Central Midlands Football League, we then gained promotion to the Supreme Division in our first season which was more than we had anticipated. The club spent five years in the Central Midlands Football League under their guidance before they left the Club, to take up appointment with our near neighbours Gedling Town in May 2009.During that time the Ground has seen a remarkable transformation from virtually a ‘Parks Pitch’ to what is now probably the best amateur ground in the area. These facilities stood us in good stead when we applied and were accepted for the start of the 2008-09 season into the newly formed East Midland Counties Football League at Step 6 of the Pyramid System. This promotion has also enabled us to apply to play in the FA Cup. We played and lost away to Westfield FC of the MFA in our first attempt, but have great hopes of progressing further in the years to come. The Committee acted quickly to appoint ex Arnold Town Manager Andy Muldoon as our next manager for the remainder of the 2011-12 season. At the start of the 2013-14 Season, the Committee appointed Jonathon (Trigger) Simpson who has spent his previous three years managing Southwell City in the CMFL. Prior to that Trigger had played for Radcliffe Olympic and Gedling under Duncan Broad, So he knows the Club well and just the type of young manager the club was looking to appoint, we were delighted when he accepted our offer of management. The first season for Jonathon and his assistant Mark Foster was really one of transition. Both for the Club and them as managers, but sound solid decisions were made as the Season progressed and the Team finished a creditable 12th with 42 points. This is something Jonathon is keen to build on for the coming Season and the prize of an FA Cup place being his main target. So we are all looking forward to a successful campaign and forging a squad capable of competing at this level. Training sessions have never been so well attended and progress is being made, but it will take time to get where we want to be. This is still a period of rebuilding at Gedling but we are confident that Trigger and his team will deliver. They will be backed up by the Committee and everyone at the Club to produce a team that we can all be proud of. Full History Available on Gedling’s website!
