Saturday 26th September 2015 Anstey Nomads F.C. vs Graham Street Prims F.C. A big welcome to all supporters, players, and officials for this afternoon’s East Midlands Counties League fixture. Today we welcome Graham Street Prims to Davidsons Homes Park. There has been many matches played between our two clubs as GSP were already in the EMCL as founders before we were promoted into the league. Since then there’s plenty of exciting and close matches and last season both games saw Nomads come away with a win in close fashion, winning 3-2 at home in November, and 2-1 away in April. Graham Street Prims have won 3 out of there 9 league games so far and a win today would see them climb above a close knit mid-table, assuming results go their way of course. Nomads on the other hand look to pick up their 3rd consecutive win, we’re also unbeaten so far at home so that puts us as slight favourites in this contest. Whatever the result of the game, it should be a great matchup and I hope Anstey and G.S.P. fans alike will enjoy this one! Key Things to watch for: As mentioned above many of our past meetings have been very close games, expect similar today, and if one team starts gaining a cushion the other will likely start clawing back. One mistake could turn a draw into a loss for either side but they should be both willing to take the risk and pick up 3points.

ASHBY IVANHOE took advantage of HOLBROOK SPORTS having no game to pull four points clear at the top with a 3-1 win over visitors ARNOLD TOWN. Scott Cordy scored twice in the first half and Kerr Horn also added a third before the break to give the home side a handsome interval advantage. James Price pulled one back on 77 minutes but there was no storming finish from the Eagles. SOUTH NORMANTON ATHLETIC moved up to fourth with a home win over struggling ELLISTOWN & IBSTOCK UNITED. But they had to come from behind to do it as Mohammed Mahir gave the Leicestershire side a 20th minute lead. Kyle Johnson levelled things up a minute before the interval and Ashley Whitt scored what proved to be the winner a minute after the break. Two goals in two minutes either side of the break takes the Shiners up to fourth (2+2=4!!!) The biggest win of the day came from RADFORD who thumped HOLWELL SPORTS 4-0 at Selhurst Street. Arash Abdollahi started the ball rolling in the 16th minute, but the visitors didn’t then capitulate until the last twelve minutes when Jarrad Russell (78), David Udoh (82) and Ken Reeves in stoppage time completed the win. The only hat-trick of the day was completed by Steve Chaplin for KIMBERLEY MINERS WELFARE. He scored all the goals in the Stags 3-0 win over GRAHAM STREET PRIMS. His first came from the penalty spot after 31 minutes, and his others in the last nine minutes of the game. Three clubs claimed all three points with the only goal of the game. Scott Birch bagged the only one in the 69th minute which gave BORROWASH VICTORIA the points over visiting GEDLING MINERS WELFARE. Nick Reeves left it even later, scoring ANSTEY NOMADS’ winner at GREENWOOD MEADOWS with just four minutes remaining, whilst Jan Yeomans got RADCLIFFE OLYMPIC their three points with his 57th minute effort against BARROW TOWN. ST ANDREWS have moved swiftly into contention and up into fifth place with another excellent win at STAPENHILL. Justin Peace opened the scoring in the 43rd minute and Dan Henfrey’s second three minutes after the break was enough to give the Saints the points. BLABY & WHETSTONE ATHLETIC also came from behind to record a welcome win to take them away from the bottom reaches of the table. Callum Ross scored first in the 12th minute, but the lead only lasted three minutes before Sam Hankin levelled for hosts AYLESTONE PARK. Kieran Neat then put the home side in front on half an hour but Ross netted his second of the afternoon for Blaby to level things up again four minutes before half-time. The only goal of the second half, from Tom Langton on 70 minutes, was enough to give the visitors that welcome away win.
ONE HUNDRED CHANCES, ONE GOAL. Plenty of ambitious chances, but only one goal to separate the two sides. . By Reece Preston-Hayes Saturday 20th September, Nomads were on the road to face Nottingham side Greenwood who sit a little above the bottom spot in the table. However despite the gap between the two sides in the table it would be no easy game for Anstey. It has never been an easy game of football when we travel to Greenwood, there has also been some rather humours moments in recent history, such as the famous floodlight failure leading to Nomads winning goal a few years back. Nomads would not be allowed to rely on gimmicks today, unless the sun strikes only the Greenwood keepers eyes atleast! The game got started very positively for Nomads, the first ten minutes already having some early chances, top goalscorers Daz and Joe coming close. Greenwood broke on their own attack after a defensive misstep saw them through but the chance fizzles away for the home side. Joe Hartopp showed of his usual pace and determination forcing panic in the Greenwood box after a defender’s attempted header back home found itself instead at Joe’s feet. Joe’s shot saved well by Greenwood young keeper. Again, Joe running through with another chance but his shot was wide of the mark this time. Nomads kept the pressure on using the wings to good effect as Nick Reeves plays plenty of crosses into the box with danger man Daz in there to attempt to finish them off, but again the Greenwood keeper in fine form. Nomads’ were very much on top of the game controlling lots of the play and having a bucket load of chances, I think most players had a go at the goal, even Luke West, who makes his first start since returning from injury, had a go at goal but Nomads could not break deadlock.
The first half comes to an end, an almost all Nomads half, we should be up by plenty of goals but to be fair the young Greenwood keeper has certainly earned his gloves and has handled an onslaught of Nomads chances very calmly. No changes as the second half gets started, Nomads continuing to pile pressure on and Stacy Coore has a go this time trying desperately to break the young keepers clean sheet but the keeper stretching out wide makes a fantastic one handed save to tip the ball out for a corner. Joe Hartopp breaking through once again, his pace his unstoppable and if he finds the ball past the defenders then all the keepers in the league have something to fear, but not this young Greenwood one as yet again he calmly makes a clean save. 25 minutes into the second half, Nomads making a substitution as Harry Culver comes off for Nathan Dale. The game slowly started to balance out a little more as the full time whistle was only ten minutes away, Greenwood having a couple of chances to snatch a win in a game that so far, they had little influence on. The scoreline remains 0-0 and stays that way till right on the edge of time. Anstey Nomads coming through with yet another chance on goal, and this time a bit of a scuffle in the box sees the ball at Nick Reeves’ feet who desperately hits the ball goal wards, overstretching his leg in the process but the ball finally sails past the seemingly unbeatable keeper and Nomads are 1-0 up. Reeves takes a moment on the floor, whether injured or just in disbelief that it took almost injuring himself to beat this Greenwood keeper, I’m not sure. Fulltime in a game where Nomads could of easily whitewashed the opponents but all credit to a fantastic performance from the Greenwood Goalkeeper who no doubt has a promising career ahead of him. Final Score: Greenwood 0-1 Nomads Full Report is available on the Nomads’ website www.pitchero.com/clubs/ansteynomadsfc

A Brief history of the Anstey Nomads F.C. The Nomads were formed in 1947 and were champions of the Leicestershire Senior League in the seasons 1951-52 and 1953-54. The following season the Club recorded its’ highest ever attendance of 4,500 against the Athenian League side Hayes in the 2nd round of the FA Amateur Cup. But just one year later the Club decided to join the Central Alliance. In 1966-67 the East Midlands Regional League was formed, mainly from Clubs in the Central Alliance, and of the six seasons the Nomads spent in this League, they gained a top four place in three of them. In 1971 Anstey Nomads were chosen to feature on Bartholomew’s Football map of England and Wales, our badge and information (albeit with incorrect founding date) is listed 5th between Andover and Arsenal! In 1994-95 the Nomads created history by winning both the Leicestershire FA Senior Cup and the Junior Cup in the same season. In 2008-2009 season the Nomads had one of their most successful seasons by winning the Leicestershire Senior League, The Battle of Britain Cup, The Rollestone Charity Cup and The Beacon Bitter League Cup. Our first season in the EMCL 2009/2010 saw the Nomads finish bottom but our good reputation helped us not get relegated and we stayed in the EMCL. Season 2011-12 Nomads were in the F.A Cup for the first time in our history The 13/14 season was a time of transition for the Nomads, with some struggle, we managed to remain in the EMCL. Nomads also had their first Under 18's Floodlit team; they had an impressive season with several players stepping up to our senior sides. 2014/15 Rob Harris became first team manager alongside former Manager Jimmy Withers; Nomads' continued in with Youth development with the Under18's floodlit side, and also debuted a new Under 16's side. 2015/16 Rob and Jimmy look to continue the form the ended on last season and have a successful season after pulling Nomads out of transitional stage, Nomads will be fielding an U21s side instead of the Reserve side in an attempt to continue our youth development programme. We’ll also continue with an U18’s team for the 3rd year running.

A brief history of Graham Street Prims F.C. Graham Street Prims were originally founded in 1904, being formed from a primitive Methodist Church from which they derived the name “Prims”. Graham Street itself is actually situated off Osmaston Road in the city of Derby and is close to the Baseball Ground, former home of Derby County F.C. until they moved to their new home at Pride Park. Prims were reformed in 1953 and achieved many honours, mainly in the Central Alliance, The East Midlands League and the Derbyshire Senior League. The finest years came between 1971 and 1981 when they won no less than fifteen major honours including seven Derbyshire FA Cup wins and eight League titles. In 1991 Prims were again disbanded due to not having a suitable ground of the required league standard but in 1995 were reformed through a merger with Derby Carriage & Wagon FC. After suffering four years of continual vandalism at the Railway Ground in Longbridge Lane, Derby and having been relegated for not having floodlights, the club was on the verge of folding once more. But a determined committee met with officials from Borrowash Victoria FC at the Asterdale Sports and Social Club in Spondon and owners of the land, The Heritage Pub Company as a result, a pitch and the promise of a lease was offered. Raising the money for this operation, which has taken place over a number of years was a mammoth task with fund raising, loans and grants being obtained, this resulted in the club paying out around £90 -100K. On the playing side season 2008-09 saw a new league formed for the East Midlands at step six, teams primarily from the Central Midlands League, Leicester Senior League and the Notts Alliance was formed with Prims among the teams competing as founder members. We were also joined by our near neighbours, Borrowash Victoria, ensuring two excellent local derbys in prospect. Mark Webster was appointed in December 2009 with the task of keeping Prims in the EMCL. Mark was joined by Tony Collins and Mark Harris who brought their own young Chellaston team to form the nucleus of the Reserves. In 2011-12 season Ian McAndrew joined Prims from Mickleover Sports as Mark’s assistant. Mark demanded loyalty from everyone at the club including the committee and last season saw his efforts bear fruit with the 1st team reaching the final of the league cup and finishing eighth in the league. The reserves reaching the semi-final of the DFA Divisional cup and finishing fifth in their league and the Youth team finishing runners-up in the Derby City under 18 league. The club now enjoys a welcome return to the days of the “Community Spirit” which must go down to the discipline Mark has instilled in his players.. The 2013-14 season sees a new club structure launched and designed by Tony Collins to bring a more professional look to the committee and throughout the club. With everyone pulling in the right direction and if we can get the dressing room plans sorted the outlook for the club is very bright indeed. This season Prims will be competing in the FA Cup for the first time in their history as well as the FA Vase. Full-uncut history available on Graham Street Prims’ website.

Since then the Youth had the long journey out to Boston United Youth, for their F.A. Youth Cup fixture. After gaining a half time lead all look well but the hosts put 3 more goals on the board in the second half to go through to the next round.
