Saturday 6th August 2016 The Emirates F.A. Cup Extra Preliminary Round
Anstey Nomads F.C. vs Harborough Town F.C. A big welcome to all supporters, players, and officials for this afternoon’s F.A. Cup tie between Anstey Nomads and Harborough Town F.C. Firstly don’t panic you are at the right ground (unless someone is selling my programmes elsewhere!) As you can see we’ve been hard at work since the season ended and have totally revamped our ground, which is ironic after winning the EMCL Ground Award for 2015/16 before the new changing rooms and clubhouse and all the rest of it. Well what a way to start the 2016/17 season, for the first time in 4 years we are back in this historic cup, and not only that we get to host it for the first time in the club’s history. Could it also be that today Anstey Nomads achieve their first win in the F.A. Cup, if we could get rid of those old changing rooms then I’m sure this club is capable of anything right now. Travelling Harborough Town will no doubt give the red and white army a tough time, with much more experience in these cup circumstances, and being a step higher than the Nomads, “The Bees” won their Extra Preliminary game against Shirebrook last season. Finishing 11th in UCL Premier with 60 points after 42 games, however they had -2 goal difference which could be a sign that they lose confidence after have pressure poured in their hive, half, of the pitch. Nomads and Harborough share some similarities in their principles, in recent years both have put a lot of effort and faith into youth development and both clubs own their premises and are doing the best to utilise it to the best, so who knows maybe we can all be friends after this. Now not to be the biased person everyone knows I am but let’s look at Nomads chances, last season we made it to the first proper round of the Vase, Nuneaton Griff played a slow grinding game against us pulling out the only goal of honestly a boring match to end our run. However in the League we had one of BEST season in recent years, and certainly our best performance in the EMCL, finishing 6th after 32 games, with 64 points and +11 Goal Difference. This season there’s only one direction and that’s up, so let’s get behind our lads, let’s make some noise, sorry Harborough but the Noisy Nomads aren’t allergic to Bees!* *may not be factually correct.

Nomads News
Written by Reece Preston-Hayes and Edited by John “Sutty” Sutherington for the Anstey Local and then shamelessly posted into the programme so you can know exactly what has been going on with YOUR local club!
So here we are again! A brand new season, and this year a totally revamped ground, many of you that have walked by the Cropston Road Ground may have wondered what has been going on these past few weeks. I can tell you that there has been a lot of hard work been put in. Firstly our clubhouse opened in 1981 by the late Jock Wallace manager of LCFC, has been stripped bare from the old double doors all the way through into the bar and has now been replaced with lots more room for functions. There is a new much nicer, modern looking bar area. Go and have a look, be amazed and if you want to book “a do” then ask the bar staff or ring Tony 07737 344089. Next up is the big one, after 69 years of service the old changing rooms have finally gone, completely removed! Honestly we’ve trying to part ways with it for many, many years, I found a programme from ’95 which details our hopes/plans to replace it that year, well at least we finally got around to it. The stone slabs, the ones that were a popular standing area have been replaced with a sleek looking wooden standing area that overlooks the pitch and the added height gives linesmen the excuse of “you’re too high to see if he’s really offside” (ANFC values all officials and their word is law.) With help from Charnwood Borough and Anstey Parish Councils they have recently had delived new changing rooms. They may look
a bit like odd looking cubes, but inside they are fantastic, it has modern showers, separate Referees room and most importantly solid floorboards! To put all this hard work into perspective we won the Ground Award from the East Midlands Counties league for the 15/16 season but that was before any of this work had commenced. We also continuing to improve on some minor parts of the ground and also have a conservatory like entrance to the front of our clubhouse. This season Rob Harris and Jimmy Withers continue to lead the first team after one of the best seasons in recent history last year. There is also a reserve team playing in the Leicestershire & Rutland senior league Division 1, this replaces the u21’s last year mainly due to financial reasons so the reserves will still have a focus on new talent and youth but it also gives returning players or injured players a chance to gain more match fitness. Admission charges remain the same as last season, supporters cards are available from Ian Grogan with the same benefits as last year, for fixtures and more keep reading the rest of this programme! Not all News is good news. It is with warm memories in our hearts as we are parted with a friend of our club. Gizmo was a joyful dog who was part of the Preston-Hayes family but also a part of the Nomads family, he came down almost every Tuesday with his pal Norman and would have a good run round the pitch removing any bones, making sure no chicken bits were on the pitch and fertilising the grass. Many of the volunteers down in the week already miss his furry face and we hope his jolly spirit lives on.

A Brief history of the Anstey Nomads F.C. The Anstey Nomads were formed in 1947 and were champions of the Leicestershire Senior League in the seasons 1951-52 and 1953-54. The following season the Club recorded its’ highest ever attendance of 4,500 against the Athenian League side Hayes in the 2nd round of the FA Amateur Cup. But just one year later the Club decided to join the Central Alliance. In 1966-67 the East Midlands Regional League was formed, mainly from Clubs in the Central Alliance, and of the six seasons the Nomads spent in this League, they gained a top four place in three of them. In 1971 Anstey Nomads were chosen to feature on Bartholomew’s Football map of England and Wales, our badge and information (albeit with incorrect founding date) is listed 5th between Andover and Arsenal! In 1994-95 the Nomads created history by winning both the Leicestershire FA Senior Cup and the Junior Cup in the same season. In 2008-2009 season the Nomads had one of their most successful seasons by winning the Leicestershire Senior League, The Battle of Britain Cup, The Rollestone Charity Cup and The Beacon Bitter League Cup. Our first season in the EMCL 2009/2010 saw the Nomads finish bottom but our good reputation helped us not get relegated and we stayed in the EMCL. Season 2011-12 Nomads were in the F.A Cup for the first time in our history The 13/14 season was a time of transition for the Nomads, with some struggle, we managed to remain in the EMCL. Nomads also had their first Under 18's Floodlit team; they had an impressive season with several players stepping up to our senior sides. 2014/15 Rob Harris became first team manager alongside former Manager Jimmy Withers; Nomads' continued in with Youth development with the Under18's floodlit side, and debuted a new Under 16's side. 2015/16 Rob & Jimmy lead Nomads first team to their best EMCL performance, our u18’s continued with our youth progression and a u21’s side provided further youth development. Club won Grounds award from EMCL. 2016/17 Ground overhauled with a fresh new setup for the clubhouse and surround buildings, the old changing rooms that we got 2nd hand in 1947 have finally gone and replaced with more modern rooms for players and officials.

A brief history of Harborough Town FC Formed as Harborough Town Juniors FC at the start of the 1975/1976 season the club has now been providing quality football in the community for over 30 years and has been based in its own facilities at Northampton Road since the early 1990’s. The club became an FA Charter Standard Club in 2004 and through consistent development has also achieved FA Charter Standard Community Club status which is the highest accolade currently available and recognises best practice, on-going development and a positive impact within the local community. Harborough Town FC now consists of Junior, Youth, Girls, Senior and Veteran sections accommodating 36 teams playing regular league football and has a playing membership now approaching 300 with around 90% of those being under the age of 18. The club has also been actively involved in the formation and development of the Harborough Alliance Football Partnership which provides training and game opportunities for children with learning and physical difficulties. Former players at the club have included Richard Stearman (Leicester City FC + England), Chris Carruthers (Northampton Town FC, Bristol Rovers FC + England) and Martin Johnson (Leicester Tigers FC, England + British Lions). The club has also over recent years seen a number of players, boys and girls, progress into Centre of Excellence and Elite squads at local Professional Clubs and it is rewarding to hear of their individual progress. The Senior section was formed in 2008 as Spencer’s United FC was amalgamated into the set up and the name was inevitably changed to Harborough Town FC. In the 8 seasons since, Harborough have progressed beyond all expectations, with 3 x promotions now seeing them playing in the UCL Premier - the first time the town of Harborough has seen Step 5 standard Football. The 2012-13 season saw manager Andrew “Stan” Wilson leave for a post at Histon midway through the season leaving Chris Church & Mick Ogier in charge. The pair put together a run that saw Harboro’ maintain their Premiership status. Church then took complete control at the beginning of the 2013-14 season but a run of poor results saw him replaced by the management duo of Gordon Kyle & Rob Dunnion who managed a last game of the season escape with an away victory at Sleaford again maintaining our Premiership survival. Season 2014 – 2015 saw us again struggle at the bottom of the League and with 10 games remaining Gordon Kyle stood down (Rob Dunnion had stepped down earlier in the season due to health issues). Kyle was replaced by experienced player Nick Pollard and again we turned to Chris Church to assist Pollard and help us avoid relegation. The last 10 games saw an upturn in form as we won 4, drew 4 and lost only 2, we had won only 4 of our previous 30 games. We again escaped the drop and Pollard & Church were asked to continue for the season 2015-16. Season 2015 -2016 saw us finish the season in 11th place a fantastic achievement with Pollard & Church in charge of the youngest side in the UCL on a shoestring budget the Clubs policy of promoting from our U18’s paid dividends.

Programme Sponsors Needed! The Nomads are in need of new programme sponsors for the coming season, we are looking for full page, half page, and even quarter pages at very affordable rates. If you are interested in advertising your business in this seasons programme then please talk to Reece and Helen in the Tea-Bar.
Seat Sponsors Needed!! This year we are renewing the seat sponsorship scheme, as you know a few years ago we purchased new seating, to cover the costs of this we had our loyal fans sponsor a chair in their name, on behalf of a family member, or on behalf of a local business. This time around we are trying to raise funds to cover some of the hard work that has gone into ground development, please see Reece to sign your name up to the list, if you already sponsored before you have first priority to re-sponsor. It is only ÂŁ5 per seat so get your name down at your local club, fantastic!
