Saturday 12th September 2015 Anstey Nomads F.C. vs South Normanton Athletic F.C. A big welcome to all supporters, players, and officials for this afternoon’s East Midlands Counties League fixture. It seems a long time since we last played South Normanton, both the fixtures last season being played in 2014, with the away leg being the first game of the campaign. This time around, both teams have had some time to settle in and bond. South Normanton remain undefeated after 5 games in the league and gave Lincoln United a good challenge in the F.A. Cup forcing a replay before losing 2-1 in a closely contested match Nomads enjoyed cup success in the F.A. Vase beating out local Leicestershire side Friar Lane & Epworth before drawing 4-4 against Radcliffe this past Tuesday. Nomads certainly go in as under dogs to this match but it could go either way, Nomads have had some great success in front of goal with Hartopp and Daz at 1 and 2 top goal scorers in the league. Whatever the result of the game, it should be a great matchup and I hope Anstey and South Normanton fans alike will enjoy this one! Key Things to watch for: South Normanton have only been behind once at half time and that was against their cup opponents Lincoln, if Nomads can take a leaf out of their book, start early and build a strong lead at half time, they may just be able to defend against a second half come back, however they must stay strong and not let their heads go down if South Normanton score else we will be facing an assault ourselves.

Around the Counties by Stan Wilton WEEK END ACTION The First qualifying Round of the FA Vase took place and there were mixed fortunes for our clubs. ANSTEY NOMADS progressed having hit the ground running in the first half with four goals against their Leicestershire Senior League opponents Friar Lane & Epworth. Joe Hartopp hit a brace in the first fifteen minutes and Chris Rudkin got a third with just 21 minutes gone. Darren Taylor added another before the break leaving the visitors with a mountain to climb. Dan Hodgkinson pulled one back for them with ten minutes to go and Mark Foster made the final scoreline closer with a last minute strike. In an all East Midlands Counties League clash, ARNOLD TOWN came off best in their game with GEDLING MINERS WELFARE at Eagle Valley. There was no goals in a tight first half, but Stephen Cox opened the scoring for the Eagles within two minutes of the restart. Barry Payne got a second moments before the hour mark. Dalton Stephens made it 2-1 with sixteen minutes to go and that was how it finished. Another all East Midlands clash saw BORROWASH VICTORIA beat KIMBERLEY MINERS WELFARE in extra time having got out of jail initially with a 90th minute equaliser through Alexander Marshall. Kimberley had lead through Elliott King’s 39th minute goal and were disappointed to concede the equaliser so late. However, the Vics came out victorious with Marshall scoring again seven minutes into the extra time period and Carl Spencer making the game safe for them in the 111th minute. RADCLIFFE OLYMPIC came out on top of their tie with fellow League members HOLBROOK SPORTS. Luke Parsons gave them a 27th minute lead and Jan Yeomans sealed their Second Qualifying Round match with his side’s second with six minutes left. ST ANDREWS were our other team to progress. They won an exciting and entertaining game at Central Midlands League side Ollerton Town, coming from behind at the interval to win 2-1. Gary Armstrong had put the Abacus Lighting side ahead in the 35th minute, but the Saints came out of the blocks strongly after the interval and equalised on 51 minutes through Shay Brennan’s beautifully controlled volley. Callum Earls broke through the home rearguard to finish clinically with the winner on 67 minutes after Ollerton’s striker Kyle Ludlow had missed a golden opportunity to give his side the lead back minutes earlier. Sunday brought more success, this time for ELLISTOWN & IBSTOCK UNITED who triumphed 3-2 away to Continental Star. An own goal and a brace from Nathan Jones – one in each half – did the trick. It was exit time for BLABY & WHETSTONE ATHLETIC despite taking the lead through Ryan Shilton after just ten minutes. Brad Kerr, Julian Lawrence and Adam Lee put Northern Counties East Leaguers Retford United in front before the interval, and Kerr added his second of the game in the second half. ASHBY IVANHOE lost at home to Racing Club Warwick for whom Jake Brown and Wade Malley were the scorers, and STAPENHILL went down by four goals away to unbeaten Central Midlands League side Hucknall Town for whom Niall Thompson scored twice supported by strikes from Liam Aikman and Neil Francis. In the League, HOLWELL SPORTS continued their good start with a 2-1 win over bottom club GREENWOOD MEADOWS. Michael Stevenson gave Sports a second minute lead, but Ricky Cross had restored parity within three minutes. Liam Chapman made sure the points stayed at home with his 57th minute winner. RADFORD took all the points from their home game against AYLESTONE PARK with a four goal first half burst.
Jean-Ruben Desrosiers opened his account for them fourteen minutes in, Ken Reeves bagged a brace in 28 and 42 minutes, and Joe Meakin scored on half an hour. SOUTH NORMANTON ATHLETIC also scored four times without replay in their game against BARROW TOWN at Lees Lane, but they spread the load more evenly with two goals in each half. Ryan Baker started the flow in the eleventh minute and Shane Newton added the second just before the break. Luke Crosby and Kyle Johnson added second half goals for the Shiners to give them an emphatic win.
ALL THE FOURS, 4-4 Nomads forced to share a point away to Radcliffe in a high scoring game. By Reece Preston-Hayes The final midweek game for September as Nomads travel out to Radcliffe, just as I arrive at the ground which was about 5 minutes into the game it seemed like Radcliffe were having plenty of early chances with their best efforts only being stopped at the last moment. The midweek games always have an air of mystery as you never know if players are going to be available or how tired they’re after a long day of work but it certainly seems that Radcliffe have plenty of energy and desire early on. Anstey Nomads however, against the run of play so far, would score the first goal of the day after Joe Hartopp finds his way onto the end of a well-placed short pass and places the ball finely into the back of the net. Radcliffe did not waste any time to answer back and only minute late get their equalising goal to put the game level again. Ten minutes later as the game seems fairly balanced between the two sides, both having some close chances. Joe Hartopp pressures the Radcliffe keeper as they both race for the ball, and with his fast pace there could only be one winner as he hits the ball up and quite amazingly the ball bounces on the edge of playing field, staying in play. Joe then whips the ball in nicely, and Callum Ball directs it into the goal, making it 2-1 for Nomads. The balance of play seemed to shift towards Nomads as they put on more and more pressure and Radcliffe’s chances fade away. On the 41st minute, Joe Hartopp gets his second from a perfectly timed header sending the ball sailing over the keeper and dipping down into the net to make it 3-1 for Nomads and half time looms in.
The second half as always slows the game’s pace a little, as the players look to get back into gear. 15minutes into the second 45mins of play Joe Hartopp completes his hattrick, he said at half time he wouldn’t get a header like his one in the first half again, but he did different header and it still paid of wonderfully. Nomads lead by 4 goals to 1 now. Radcliffe would have a mountain to climb now but 10 minutes after Joe’s hattrick Radcliffe begun their ascent up the mountain, a silly mistake from the Nomads playing it around far too much in their own third of the pitch. All Radcliffe had to do was run onto the loose pass and place the ball into the back of the net to make it 4-2. A tussle for dominance began, as the Radcliffe desperately wanted to keep scaling the mountain and overcome the onslaught they faced in the first half and after another 20minutes of play, they took a massive leap closer to earning a point. They had a corner and Radcliffe had looked dangerous from set pieces so far, and they get something to show for those well-taken corners. The ball whipped in and met well by the Radcliffe player, heading it into the back of the net. Now only 1 goal between 3 points and 1 point, and only a minute after their corner the ball was out wide again and Radcliffe sent a dangerous cross into the box and it’s met right at the far post as the player stretches his leg and deservedly gets the equaliser. Radcliffe almost had a chance to do a complete steal with a late free kick only a few yards out from the box, the free kick didn’t have too much venom on it but it was deflected out for a corner and the ball whipped it once more but this time it was cleared out as the final whistle blows. A game that lives up to the “Game of two halves” cliché, it took Nomads 15minutes to get into the game in the first half but once they did they put on a nice display. Joe Hartopp getting his hattrick before Radcliffe deservedly began clawing back and in the end, both sides share one point each. An excellent game for the neutrals and one that highlights all the ups, the downs, and excitement the EMCL has to offer. Final score Radcliffe 4-4 Nomads Full Report is available on the Nomads’ website www.pitchero.com/clubs/ansteynomadsfc

A Brief history of the Anstey Nomads F.C. The Nomads were formed in 1947 and were champions of the Leicestershire Senior League in the seasons 1951-52 and 1953-54. The following season the Club recorded its’ highest ever attendance of 4,500 against the Athenian League side Hayes in the 2nd round of the FA Amateur Cup. But just one year later the Club decided to join the Central Alliance. In 1966-67 the East Midlands Regional League was formed, mainly from Clubs in the Central Alliance, and of the six seasons the Nomads spent in this League, they gained a top four place in three of them. In 1994-95 the Nomads created history by winning both the Leicestershire FA Senior Cup and the Junior Cup in the same season. In 2008-2009 season the Nomads had one of their most successful seasons by winning the Leicestershire Senior League, The Battle of Britain Cup, The Rollestone Charity Cup and The Beacon Bitter League Cup. Our first season in the EMCL 2009/2010 saw the Nomads finish bottom but our good reputation helped us not get relegated and we stayed in the EMCL Season 2011-12 Nomads were in the F.A Cup for the first time in our history The 13/14 season was a time of transition for the Nomads, with some struggle, we managed to remain in the EMCL. Nomads also had their first Under 18's Floodlit team; they had an impressive season with several players stepping up to our senior sides. 2014/15 Rob Harris became first team manager alongside former Manager Jimmy Withers; Nomads' continued in with Youth development with the Under18's floodlit side, and also will debuted a new Under 16's side. 2015/16 Rob and Jimmy look to continue the form the ended on last season and have a successful season after pulling Nomads out of transitional stage, Nomads will be fielding an U21s side instead of the Reserve side in an attempt to continue our youth development programme. We’ll also continue with an U18’s team for the 3rd year running.

A brief history of South Normanton Athletic F.C. Football was first played at lees lane in the 1926/27 season playing under the name of South Normanton Miners Welfare, and progressed to the Central Alliance Football League and after into the Sutton and Skegby League. The nickname ‘Shiners’ derives from the mid 1750’s when South Normanton was at the heart of the ribbed stocking industry. The people involved in this craft worked long hours sitting at there windows on wooden stools, so much so, that the backsides of there trousers became very shiny making them instantly recognisable as coming from the South Normanton area since then local people have been referred to and called ‘Shiners’. Under the new name South Normanton Athletic joined the Central Midlands Football League in the 1990/91 season. The clubs first major success came in the 1993/94 season when the finished runners up in the premier division. This gained them promotion to the supreme division. The club made there first entry into the F.A Vase in the 1994/95 season. In the 1996/97 season disaster struck when the old changing rooms where destroyed by fire. The clubs future lay in the balance and with limited time available members of the committee virtually worked round the clock to convert a derelict building into suitable changing rooms, which at the time were intended to be for a temporary period only the leagues deadline for completion was accomplished with little time to spare. At the end of the 1996/97 season, the club was relegated due to the 3 year flood light installation rule not being met; funds set aside to complete this project had been spent in establishing new changing rooms. The floodlights were completed in 1998 and the club was reinstated back into the supreme division. The team’s best position being 3rd which a promotion place was awarded. The club was promoted to the NCEL for the start of the 2003/2004 season where they played till the club decided to fold at the end of the 2007/08 season due to an ageing committee and no new blood coming to the club. We have now reformed the club with a new committee, management and players. For the first time in a long while there is an air of optimism and expectancy of bigger and better things to come at Lees Lane. As one of the old committee members said “it’s just nice to see football being played here again”. That enthusiasm bore fruit last season when the club were promoted to Step 6 of the football pyramid and were accepted into the East Midlands Counties League. We hope to keep the momentum going and hopefully achieve further success. The clubs reserve team were also accepted into the Notts. Senior League in season 2014/15 to open another chapter in the clubs history.
