SATURDAY 25TH OCTOBER 2014 ANSTEY NOMADS F.C WELCOME BORROWASH VICTORIA F.C TO DAVIDSONS HOME PARK FOR TODAYS LEAGUE GAME THE LAST FEW YEARS OF HISTORY AT BORROWASH On the field, The Vics joined the East Midlands Counties League as founder members for the 2008/09 season. This proved to be the first of many near-misses with promotion, with the side finishing second just three points adrift. 2010/11 was even closer, two points this time. 2011/12 second again but seven points adrift of a very good Heanor Town side. Last season saw several significant changes on and off the field. Ian Anderson stood down as Chair after over 30 years’ service; he does however remain on the committee. His successor is Frazer Watson and he has brought some new faces onto the committee and these changes have continued this season. At the end of the 2012/13 season Ian Collins, affectionately known as “Chunky” in footballing circles decided to part ways with the club and move on to pastures new. Long serving committee member John Bishop eventually moved with Chunky to Gresley FC. John Robinson, local resident and committee member took on the reins as secretary of the club under the football leadership of Kev Bunting. This move also reunited the Kellogg family with the club with Thom and brother Sam rejoining the club as player/Assistant Manager and player respectively. Two weeks into the season Kev sadly resigned due to personal issues, and like their farther Neil, the two brothers took charge of the first team. The 2013/14 season had ups and downs, with the club deducted three points for fielding an ineligible player, ultimately this had no effect on the promotion standings due to a loss of form at the tail end of the season. The high points of the season undoubtedly came in cup competitions, notably beating Belper Town and Chesterfield in the Derbyshire Senior Cup, only to succumb to a 6-0 defeat in the semi final to Glossop North End. Later in the season, due to Sam becoming a father once again he decided that he wished to take a back seat, and Thom enlisted the help of Dick Pratley for the end of the season, a move that was to become permanent for the 2014/15 season, along with the capture of Lee Barrow, with over 170 games experience in the Football league. Borrowash Victoria now has a successful junior setup with teams from Under 18’s down to Under 9’s. Last season those junior teams collected three major trophies and numerous other awards. It is from this young crop that the next generation of Vics will appear, following the example of former junior players who are now regular members of the senior squad.

AROUND THE COUNTIES
By STAN WILTON
ST ANDREWS stay top of the table after destroying bottom rungers GREENWOOD MEADOWS at Lenton Lane with six of the best. Leon Doughty got the ball rolling after 24 minutes after which the Saints never looked back. Ben Stephens doubled the advantage before the break and a second half brace from Toby Warner was added to by Brady Hickey and Ryan Hodkinson to ensure that the Greens were on the end of the day’s biggest defeat. The day’s top game though was at Lees Lane where SOUTH NORMANTON ATHLETIC pushed visitors KIMBERLEY MINERS WELFARE down the table to fifth with a 2-0 win secured by Sam Sims who got both goals in 38 and 61 minutes to keep the Shiners in second place. But Match-of-the-Day was undoubtedly at Plains Road where a flurry of six goals were scored in twelve second half minutes. Much-travelled Kelvin Mushambi put GEDLING MINERS WELFARE ahead four minutes before the break and then doubled their advantage two minutes into the second period. Then came five goals in a fantastic eight minute spell. Isaac Minnot pulled one back for HOLBROOK SPORTS on the hour only for Tony Law to reopen the two goal gap a minute later. There had hardly been time to draw breath before the Brookies went back down the field for Sam Ridgard to cut the deficit again. Isaac Minnot restored parity on 66 minutes which lasted just two minutes before Tony Law’s second of the game edged the home side back in front again. Kyle Hazeldine brought the scores level again on 72 minutes and it looked like the contestants would share eight goals until three minutes from the end when Isaac Minnot scored from the penalty spot to give Holbrook the points which keeps them in third place and secure his second hat-trick in eight days. Elsewhere, BORROWASH VICTORIA put some of their troubles behind them having switched their game to ARNOLD TOWN’s Eagle Valley. Here three goals in seven minutes secured them all three points after the game looked destined to finish without a goal. Former Prims striker Jim Rushby put Vics in front on 82 minutes and Ryan Baker made it two a minute later. Courtney Hastings pulled one back for the Eagles in the last minute to complete the scoring. First half goals from Josh Lowe (21) and Luke Thorogood (41) were enough to see ASHBY IVANHOE nick the points from AYLESTONE PARK and move up into fourth spot in the table. And a brace of goals from Rich Hanslow and one from Dan Chatfield were the three goals which saw BARDON HILL see off visitors STAPENHILL. BLABY & WHETSTONE ATHLETIC came back from their midweek defeat by hitting GRAHAM th STREET PRIMS for six after the visitors had taken a 19 minute lead through Sebastian Szonbi. Tom Hill from the penalty spot, Joe Preston, Josh Unsworth and a threesome from Jake Limbert made sure the points stayed at Warwick Road. Jon Hamilton got Prims second in their 6-2 reverse. Joe Hanlow put BARROW TOWN ahead on their visit to ELLISTOWN & IBSTOCK UNITED after eight minutes, but Chris Rudkin levelled after 66 to ensure the points were shared. th It seems that RADCLIFFE OLYMPIC can’t buy a goal or a win these days as Graham Wells 37 minute shot for HOLWELL SPORTS proved to be the only goal of the game at the Recreation Ground. Jahred Russell gave RADFORD an interval advantage over visitors ANSTEY NOMADS at Selhurst Street, and the points were confirmed with second half goals from Daniel King-Bisungu and th Sheriff-Deen Babatunde to move they up to 12 in the table. Seems like the Nottingham side like playing on their newly-laid pitch!
