AROUND THE COUNTIES by STAN WILTON Amazingly, and somewhat against the odds during this period of inclement weather, both the midweek Jenkins & Jenkins League Cup Quarter Final ties ended all square after extra time. GEDLING MINERS WELFARE and RADCLIFFE OLYMPIC shared eight goals at Plains Road where the outcome was in doubt right up to the 120th minute. Connor Hardy after four minutes and Lee Potts four minutes later put the visitors in command, and Gedling didn’t get back into the game until a couple of minutes before the break when Tony Law pulled one back. Substitute Alex Clarson levelled things up on 69 minutes and it stayed like that until five minutes from the end of normal time when Potts put Olympic back in front again. Kelvin Mushambi brought about extra time with his 90th minute equaliser. Jake Morris again put Radcliffe in front in the extra period and then with a minute of stoppage time played at the end of extra time Mushambi squared things up again necessitating a replay. And the same applied at BARROW TOWN where ST ANDREWS were the visitors and this time six goals were shared. The only goal of the first half went to the Saints from Ryan Hodgkinson after 26 minutes. Chris Davies levelled after 69 only for Dan Henfrey to put the visitors back in front with nine minutes left. Ebony Asante brought about extra time with his 87th minute goal and Ben Law put Barrow in front for the first time after 106 minutes. The lead lasted just three minutes and Henfrey scored the goal that ensured a replay in this game would be necessary. Only two games survived the weather on Saturday, the majority of pitches suffering from flooding rather than being snow bound. Second and third met at Selhurst Street which found RADFORD, on the back of five straight wins, entertaining BARDON HILL. Radford started brightly and eventually went in front after 20 minutes when John King met a cross from the right and bundled the ball into the net. Visitors Bardon were quick out of the blocks in the second half and Steve Chaplin restored parity almost from the restart. Radford keeper Callum Dunning clawed a Steve Hart effort round the post and then saw a thunderous Chaplin effort crash against his crossbar. Steve Hart was sensationally sent off five minutes from the end for re-entering the field of play after injury without permission thus picking up his second yellow card of the game. At Canal Street ST ANDREWS totally dominated the first half with Dan Henfrey being denied giving the host the lead after dancing round the keeper and seeing his shot cleared off the line. However, Luke Coxon headed in the resultant corner. Ben Stephens latched onto a Toby Warner pass to double the advantage after 20 minutes and Henfrey got his goal for a 3-0 lead on 41 minutes. ELLISTOWN & IBSTOCK UNITED hit back hard after the break. Home keeper Shane Antcliffe saved Ben Harris’ penalty with 15 minutes left, but the kick was ordered to be retaken and Harris cut the lead on 75 minutes. The Saints were under the cosh to hold out, particularly after Tendal Chitiza made it 3-2 with nine minutes left, but resolute defending and a bit of good fortune saw St Andrews hold out for the points.
