Established in 1904. In 1988, Holwell Works F.C. changed their name to their present name of Holwell Sports. They reached the 2nd round of the FA Vase three times in their history, the last time was thanks to goals from Gary Drake and Leigh Fox and a man of the match performance from fans favourite Andy Teare. They currently play in the East Midlands Counties League, having joined from the Leicestershire Senior League at the end of the 2007–08 seasons.

AROUND THE COUNTIES by STAN WILTON BLABY & WHETSTONE ATHLETIC went six points clear at the top of the table with a 5-3 win at BORROWASH VICTORIA as ST ANDREWS game at STAPENHILL was a victim of the weather. Louis Finney-Neckles put the Leicestershire visitors ahead after 12 minutes, but Borrowash hit back to go ahead at the break through Lee Sutton and James Slack. Aaron Preston quickly levelled up the scores again in the second half and Jake Limbert put Blaby back in front on 58 minutes. Bryn Statham and Stuart Verrall then added to the score with Lee Sutton’s second of the game for the home side coming in stoppage time. BARDON HILL hopped into second place with a 2-0 win at Eagle Valley against ARNOLD TOWN. Carl Slater broke the deadlock on 24 minutes and Andy Fell got a second for them with five minutes remaining. RADFORD continue to impress and remain third following Carey Knight on 17 minutes and John King on 46 scoring the goals which defeated RADCLIFFE OLYMPIC at Selhurst Street. SOUTH NORMANTON ATHLETIC enjoyed their trip to AYLESTONE PARK scoring five times without reply through Tommy Leighton, Rob Spencer, Anthony Fay, Tom Lewis and Alex Elliker. Leighton’s goal was the only one of the first half before the Shiners hit a scoring patch in the second period. BARROW TOWN though went two goals better, scoring seven times on their trip to poor GREENWOOD MEADOWS. Ebony Asante, Francis Finnemore, Dave Coleman, James Allen and an own goal made it five before the break. Lee Linnett and Ben Law increased the score in the second half before Dwayne Ngandi-Bessaia got a 87th minute consolation for the Greens. Three second half goals did the trick for ELLISTOWN & IBSTOCK UNITED as they overcame Joe Hartopp’s 12th minute opener for visitors ANSTEY NOMANDS. Richard Wileman and Sam Carline scored twice in as many minutes and Robert Lea added a third for the Mergers with a few minutes left. HOLWELL SPORTS game at home to HOLBROOK SPORTS was another to fall victim of the weather, and the day’s final two games ended with the points being shared. Sebastian Szondi put GRAHAM STREET PRIMS in front on their visit to GEDLING MINERS WELFARE after 33 minutes, but Kelvin Mushambi and Tony Law scored twice within a minute to reverse the lead. Graham O’Reilly rescued a point for Prims three minutes into stoppage time. And for much of the second half it looked as if Elliott King’s 58th minute goal would give KIMBERLEY MINERS WELFARE maximum points, but Callum McBride levelled things up for ASHBY IVANHOE in the last minute to rescue a point for the visitors.
