SATURDAY 14TH FEBRUARY 2015 ANSTEY NOMADS F.C WELCOME RADCLIFFE OLYMPIC F.C. TO DAVIDSONS HOMES PARK FOR TODAY’S LEAGUE GAME Radcliffe Olympic FC History: Radcliffe Olympic FC was founded in 1876, making it one of the oldest football Clubs in Nottinghamshire, a forerunner for other Clubs. During the early period the standard of players at the Club was extremely high. One player who was to go on to play international football was Harry Butler Daft who played for the Club in the early 1890's. Although long term history is hard to find when looking for Club honours Olympic enjoyed early success as a Club. In the 1900/01 season Olympic were the Notts Alliance Champions. The next period that we found Olympic success was the early 1930's. In the 1929/30 season the Club won the Notts Alliance Divisional 2 Cup. The 1931/32 season saw the Club win both the Notts Alliance Division Town and the South Notts League. The 1940's brought more silverware when in 1946/47 Olympic won both the Notts Realm League Division One and the Notts Realm League Division One Cup. In the 1947/48 season the Notts Realm League Division One Cup was retained. Olympic next had success in the mid to late 1960's. In a six year period between the 1965/66 and 1970/71 seasons Olympic won three Midlands Amateur Alliance League titles, the Central Alliance Premier Division, the East Midlands Regional League Division One and the Midlands Amateur Alliance Senior Cup in the 1967/88 season. Throughout the 1990's Radcliffe Olympic hit a purple patch winning the Notts Alliance Division One in 1990/91 and the Nottm & District Spartan League Division One in 1991/92. As well as these two league Championships Olympic had Cup success winning the Nottm & District Spartan League Cup in 1990/91, the Midland Amateur Alliance Intermediate Cup 1996/97 and were runners up in the Notts FA Intermediate Cup in 1992/93 and in the Notts Alliance Intermediate Cup in 1996/97. As the Club entered its third century the success continued. In the 2001/02 season they won the Notts Alliance Division Three Championship and the Notts Intermediate Cup. In 2002/03 the First Team won the Notts Alliance Senior Division and the Notts Alliance Senior Cup. In the summer of 2003 Radcliffe Olympic amalgamated with local Club ASC Dayncourt to create one of the biggest Clubs in Nottinghamshire with it retaining the famous Radcliffe Olympic name. The Club created four sections the Seniors, Intermediates, Juniors and Ladies to provided equal opportunities for everyone to play football. The success continued in the 2003/04 season when the First Team were crowed Champions of the Central Midland League Premier Division. This was mirrored by the Reserve Team who won the Central Midlands League Reserve Division One. The 2004/05 season saw the Seniors First Team play in the Central Midlands League Supreme Division. The 2006/07 season saw the Seniors First Team make their debut in the FA Vase. The 2008/09 saw the Seniors First Team crowned Champions of the Central Midlands League Supreme Division. The 2009/10 season saw the Seniors First Team play in the East Midlands Counties Football League Premier Division. The 2010/11 season was a historic moment as the Seniors First Team made their debut in the FA Cup and played seven ties in five rounds before eventually being knocked out in the Third Round Qualifier. The 2011/12 season saw the Seniors First Team rebuild under Kevin Waddley, Wayne Miles and Steve Morris. They reached the EMC League Cup Final. The 2013/14 season saw the Seniors First Team make it into the EMC League Cup Semi Final. This season the management have been busy bringing in new players to strengthen the squad as they look to improve on last season’s finish. The future of Radcliffe Olympic FC is looking bright. The Club is at its strongest position in probably its entire history on and off the pitch.

AROUND THE COUNTIES by STAN WILTON BARDON HILL extended their unbeaten away record to ten games with a 3-1 win at BORROWASH VICTORIA to leapfrog Blaby & Whetstone Athletic and take over at the top of the table. Last season’s leading goalscorer Steve Hart was destroyer in chief as he put the Quarrymen in front on 35 minutes. Lee Fell levelled things up just before the break but Hart’s second goal of the game on 67 minutes and a third from Louis Keenan seven minutes later sewed up the points for the new table toppers. BLABY & WHETSTONE ATHLETIC meanwhile slipped to defeat at ASHBY IVANHOE where a goal from Chris Saunders nine minutes from the end proved to be the match winner. On a day when goals seemed particularly hard to come by, RADFORD moved into second place with their fifth away win of the season – a comfortable 3-0 success at struggling AYLESTONE PARK. Jarrad Westcarr, Joe Meakin and Ken Reeves all scoring in the first half. Goal-less draws are hard to come by in the East Midlands Counties League and prior to today I believe there has been only one previously this season. Today broke the mould though with ST ANDREWS being held at GEDLING MINERS WELFARE and KIMBERLEY MINERS WELFARE and visitors HOLWELL SPORTS also failing to break the deadlock. The result was least helpful to St Andrews and leaves them four points behind the leaders and having played a game more. This having looked potential champions for much of the first half of the season. ANSTEY NOMADS picked up a valuable three points from their home game against rock bottom GREENWOOD MEADOWS. Joe Hartopp broke the deadlock four minutes before the interval and a late second from Darren Taylor took Nomads out of the bottom four. They were replaced by GRAHAM STREET PRIMS who couldn’t strike the same momentum which saw them take a valuable point in midweek at Lees Lane. Today they went down by the odd goal of three at home to RADCLIFFE OLYMPIC despite taking a 29th minute lead through Toby Warner. Connor Hardy restored parity two minutes before the break and Paul Durham scored the visitors winner with thirteen minutes of the game remaining. First half goals from Jimmy Spiers and Craig Meakin set up the three points for ARNOLD TOWN against a BARROW TOWN side who could only find a consolation goal in the 86th minute from Dave Coleman to take back to Leicestershire with them. And it was also two first half goals from from Shane Newton and Ash Whitt which set up all three points for SOUTH NORMANTON ATHLETIC against visiting STAPENHILL. The visitors goal coming in the last minute of the game from Jamie Disney. Another team to show an alarming slide down the table after such a promising start at HOLBROOK SPORTS. They suffered their sixth away defeat of the season going down at ELLISTOWN & IBSTOCK UNITED by the odd goal of five – a win which keeps the hosts in fifth place in the table. Rich Lewis got the home side off to a good start with a goal in the 29th minute and Sam Carline added a second just before the break. The second half got off to a sensational start when Tendal Chitiza made it 3-0 in the 47th minute. A minute later Declan Carney pulled one back for the Brookies. Niall Mather got a second for Holbrook but that was as good as it got for them.

Nomads Youth in the final! It’s been an impressive season for the Anstey Nomads U18’s this season who in their second you have continued to excite our loyal Nomads on Wednesday nights. The season campaign itself has been a truly marvellous display of what football should be, fast, creative, and exciting. There has really been no lack of thrills. The county cup run though, although short in games due to a quarter final bye round (The opponents had folded) has still been a historical one. After their semi-final oppenents were named I had a big smile on my face, former senior rivals Oadby Town, who’s large and vocal fanbase seeps down deep into their youth side. After a couple of postponements my smile grew bigger as the fixture was reverse so that we’d not only play the one team I’d love to beat, but we’d play them at their ground with their vocal fanbase. Perfect Match for me indeed. The cup tie proved actaully to be an almost clear perfect match, the teams very evenly matched in skill and with similar playing styles and all conquering counter attack for both sides the score was firmly placed at 1-1 at half time. Both teams knew they’d have to pull of something special, or maybe just have that inch of luck to poke the ball into the net. The battle was a tough one but after a wonderfully taken corner dropped right into the middle it was aperfect oppurtunity to take the lead for the second time and ultimately take the win. Manager Wayne Beck and his lads will be marching on to Leicester’s answer to Wembley… well maybe the old wembley, but nevertheless they’ll hope to finish there historical run and even if they end up beaten they’ve already done us proud, so well done to all the lads, Wayne and everyone who’s helped and supported them!
