SATURDAY 14TH DECEMBER 2014 ANSTEY NOMADS F.C WELCOME SOUTH NORMANTON F.C TO DAVIDSONS HOMES PARK FOR TODAY’S LEAGUE GAME SOUTH NORMANTON F.C. HISTORY. South Normanton Athletic joined the Central Midlands Football League in the 1990/91 season. The clubs first major success came in the 1993/94 season when the finished runners up in the premier division. This gained them promotion to the supreme division. The club made there first entry into the F.A Vase in the 1994/95 season. In the 1996/97 season disaster struck when the old changing rooms where destroyed by fire. The clubs future lay in the balance and with limited time available members of the committee virtually worked round the clock to convert a derelict building into suitable changing rooms, which at the time were intended to be for a temporary period only the leagues deadline for completion was accomplished with little time to spare. At the end of the 1996/97 season, the club was relegated due to the 3 year flood light installation rule not being met; funds set aside to complete this project had been spent in establishing new changing rooms. The floodlights were completed in 1998 and the club was reinstated back into the supreme division. The team’s best position being 3rd which a promotion place was awarded. The club was promoted to the NCEL for the start of the 2003/2004 season where they played till the club decided to fold at the end of the 2007/08 season due to an ageing committee and no new blood coming to the club. We have now reformed the club with a new committee, management and players. For the first time in a long while there is an air of optimism and expectancy of bigger and better things to come at Lees Lane. As one of the old committee members said “it’s just nice to see football being played here again”. That enthusiasm bore fruit last season when the club were promoted to Step 6 of the football pyramid and were accepted into the East Midlands Counties League. We hope to keep the momentum going and hopefully achieve further success. The clubs reserve team were also accepted into the Notts. Senior League in season 2014/15 to open another chapter in the clubs history.

Closing the gap on league leaders St Andrews are BARDON HILL who recorded their seventh home win of the campaign with a 4-1 triumph over GEDLING MINERS WELFARE. Ashley Garner gave them the lead after 32 minutes, Steve Hart completed the scoring two minutes from the end. Between times Rich Hanslow continued his march towards the League’s Golden Boot with a brace of goals and Mitch Slawson got a consolation for the Miners. ST ANDREWS continue at the helm though thanks to a 2-0 win at KIMBERLEY MINERS WELFARE with second half goals from Leon Doughty and Dan Henfrey. BLABY & WHETSTONE ATHLETIC consolidated third spot with an emphatic 8-2 home win over AYLESTONE PARK with eight of the game’s ten goals coming in the second half. Stuart Verrall after five minutes and Lee Barrett after 22 gave Blaby a 2-0 interval advantage. Verrall completed his hat-trick in the second half and Brett Marvin grabbed a second half threesome as well with Aaron Preston getting the other. Two goals in two minutes when they were trailing by seven from Mark Preston and Linford Harris put a little tiny bit of respectability on the scoreline. And Isaac Minnot was another hat-trick hero as his threesome hit GRAHAM STREET PRIMS for their ninth home league defeat. Minnot’s first came on 20 minutes and Tony Howard levelled fifteen minutes later, but his second half brace and one from returning striker Cory Bowler saw HOLBROOK SPORTS stay in contention. ASHBY IVANHOE suffered a 3-0 home defeat to BARROW TOWN for whom Dave Coleman and two from Chris Davis scored in a seven minute spell either side of the interval. And a pair of goals from HOLWELL SPORTS’ Mr Reliable, Scot Mooney, both inside the first sixteen minutes of the game, accounted for ELLISTOWN & IBSTOCK UNITED at Welby Road. RADFORD are making goalscoring a habit as their revitalised form continues. Now up to the dizzy heights of seventh in the table they recorded their seventh home win of the campaign with a – yes, you’ve guessed it – a 7-0 win over a BORROWASH VICTORIA side for whom nothing seems to be going right of late. Even more surprisingly was the fact that all the goals came in the second half with Joe Meakin, Phil Hinton, David Udoh, Sheriff-Deen Babatunde, Hemagou Kevin, John King and an own goal making up the numbers. And no doubt you will have noted – seven different goal scorers! Now how often does that happen? Ashley Whitt goal the only goal in the first half at Lees Lane, but Rob Fretwell and two from Shane Newton added to that in the second half for SOUTH NORMANTON ATHLETIC as they beat ARNOLD TOWN 4-1. Warren Hatfield got the Eagles consolation. Stacey Coore put ANSTEY NOMADS into the lead on their visit to the Recreation Ground after 64 minutes, but Matt Gamble levelled nine minutes later for RADCLIFFE OLYMPIC to ensure that it was the day’s only drawn game.

Anstey Nomads are to commemorate the centenary of one of the most iconic moments of the First World War - the 1914 Christmas Truce – as part of a week of remembrance activity in December 2014. This will involve our partners Anstey Swifts represented by their junior teams playing small side games prior to the main match warm ups. Before today’s first team game, all players involved will pose together in a mixed group photograph as a mark of respect to those on both sides that took part in the 1914 Christmas Truce. We are also hoping that our local British Legion will be in attendance to sell raffle tickets & raise valuable money to assist those who have given so much for their country. Please give generously. 'Football Remembers Week' will take place from 5-14 December. A joint collaboration between The FA, the Premier League, the Football League and the British Council, the aim is to engage football fans and players at every level about what took place on... (continued on the next page)
Christmas Day one hundred years ago on the battlefields in Belgium. On 25 December 1914, soldiers from both sides put down their weapons and crossed into ‘no man’s land’ to share in an impromptu ceasefire. First-hand accounts from the time include references to football being played and photographs taken. All photos uploaded to social media using #footballremembers will be automatically uploaded to a special website – www.footballremembers.com. The site shall act as a moment of record of football in 2014, a century on from the First World War, and will be preserved for future generations. HRH The Duke of Cambridge, President of The FA, said: “It promises to be a powerful way to engage and educate young people about such an important moment in our history. We all grew up with the story of soldiers from both sides putting down their arms on Christmas Day, and it remains wholly relevant today as a message of hope over adversity, even in the bleakest of times.”
