SATURDAY 27TH DECEMBER 2014 ANSTEY NOMADS F.C WELCOME BARDON HILL F.C. TO DAVIDSONS HOMES PARK FOR TODAY’S LEAGUE GAME Bardon Hill History: Bardon Hill Football Club resides on the slopes of the highest point in Leicestershire, At 912 feet or 278 metres which ever you prefer, Bardon Hill is indeed only 88 feet short of being a mountain. The football club can trace its roots back to the late 1890`s when it played under the name of St.Peters Church. The club has played under various titles over the years including Bardon Hill Granite and Bardon Hill Sports Club. The decision to change the club name to Bardon Hill was taken in 2008. The club has played in various leagues during its 120 year existence , mainly local Coalville leagues and the Leicester & District League and The North Leicestershire League . The club moved to the present ground in 1990 when the quarry needed the old ground behind the church for expansion. The facilities demanded a higher level of football and the club committee , with John Tomlinson and Stuart Hagger in charge of the team decided the time was right in 1994 when the club applied for and was accepted into the Leicestershire Senior League. The club gained promotion into the Premier Division of the LSL in 2005 after coming runners-up in Division 1 under the guidance of Gary Irons. The club finished 5th in 2008 granting them a place as one of the founder members of the newly formed East Midlands Counties League. The club is run by a small and very dedicated band of volunteers who work tirelessly to try and move the club forward, this has seen the facilities at Bardon Close improve beyond all recognition and has culminated in the award of a £50,000 grant from The Club Futures Scheme to put new bar and kitchen facilities within the ground. We hope that in the near future we will be able to climb the “Mountain” of promotion and take the club as far as it can go through the non-league system.

AROUND THE COUNTIES by STAN WILTON Saturday’s games saw BLABY & WHETSTONE ATHLETIC move up to third in the table thanks to Brett Marvin’s 48th minute winner at ANSTEY NOMADS which proved to be the only goal of the game. But it’s still ST ANDREWS clear at the top and pounding out another good result with a 3-1 home win over RADCLIFFE OLYMPIC. Ben Stephens got them off to the best possible start with a goal in the first minute, followed by a double up of the scoreline from Dan Henfrey on 28. Lee Potts cut the advantage on 68 minutes but Ste[hen’s second of the game on 76 minutes confirmed the Saints win. ASHBY IVANHOE moved up into fourth spot having come from behind to claim all three points at BORROWASH VICTORIA. Jim Slack gave Vics the lead midway through the first half, but two second half goals in the space of 14 minutes from Chris Waldrum and James Fisher saw the points leave the Asterdale. And you would need to call RADFORD queue jumbers, for they are now up to fifth – their highest every position in the East Midlands Counties League I believe. They too had to come from behind to beat visiting STAPENHILL, for whom James Disney had given them the lead three minutes into the second half after a goal-less first period. Sherriff Deen Babatunde levelled on 69 minutes and Carey Knight ensured the points stayed at Selhurst Street with a late winner eight minutes from the end. HOLBROOK SPORTS dropped out of the top five for the first time this season following a thrilling home defeat by HOLWELL SPORTS. Isaac Minnot and Kyle Hazeldine put the Brookies two-up inside the first 25 minutes but Scott Mooney cut the advantage with four minutes remaining to the break. Mooney levelled things up three minutes into the second half only for Minnot to strike again for the home side on the hour. Mooney restored parity and completed his hat trick in the 69th minute which left Kieran Foster with the game’s winner on 76 minutes. Joy at last for GRAHAM STREET PRIMS as they won 3-1 at BARROW TOWN with goals from Michael Coyle after half an hour, Michael Fitzhugh six minutes later and Graham O’Reilly poaching the winner on 71 minutes after Francis Finnemore had tried to make a game of it with his 68th minute goal for the hosts. GEDLING MINERS WELFARE’s second narrow victory of the week saw AYLESTONE PARK return home from their visit to Plains Road empty handed thanks to Ricky Law’s 61st minute winner. Elliott King and Ant Gregory put KIMBERLEY MINERS WELFARE into a two goal lead at the break on their visit to GREENWOOD MEADOWS. Jordan Sharp’s goal three minutes into the second half looked to start a home come back only for King’s second goal of the game to put things beyond them. Ash Cheetham got a late consolation in stoppage time but not enough to change the result. The game between SOUTH NORMANTON ATHLETIC and ELLISTOWN & IBSTOCK UNITED was abandoned due to a power failure with no score.
