TUESDAY 28TH OCTOBER 2014 ANSTEY NOMADS F.C WELCOME ASHBY IVANHOE F.C TO DAVIDSONS HOMES PARK FOR TODAY’S LEAGUE GAME
ASHBY IVANHOE FC CLUB HISTORY Ashby Ivanhoe Football Club was founded in 1948 and play their home matches at the NFU Sports Ground, Lower Packington Road, Ashby de la Zouch in Leicestershire. This is the clubs new home from the beginning of the 2012/2013 season. Since being founded in 1948 up until the end of the 2011/2012 season the clubs previous home was at Hood Park also in Ashby de la Zouch. The club currently consists of three adult teams and a youth team. The first team play in the East Midlands Counties League, with the Reserves in the Leicestershire Senior League Division One. In the 2008/2009 season the club formed a Youth Team (Under 18’s) side who play in the Leicestershire Midweek Floodlit Youth League on Wednesday nights. A Sunday team was reintroduced for the 2012/2013 season and they play in the Burton Sunday League Division Two. The club also has 11 junior sides ranging from Under 9’s through to Under 17’s who play in the Burton Junior Football League, Tamworth Junior Football League and the Derby City League. The junior section came after the club merged with the David Hunt Soccer School at the beginning of the 2009-2010 season. In February 2004, Ashby Ivanhoe became an FA Charter Standard football club. The club is very ambitious and has plans to progress further up the league pyramid system. The club is run by an experienced management team and enjoys the support of some very prestigious commercial partners. Ashby Ivanhoe had one of their most successful seasons in 2010/11 as they completed a league and cup double by winning the Leicestershire Senior League by nine points and also lifted the Coalville Charity Cup for the very first time after producing a superb second half comeback to beat Bardon Hill 3-2 in the final. They have also reached successive Leicestershire Senior Cup finals in 2011/2012 and 2012/2013 but had to settle for runners-up on both occasions losing 3-1, firstly to Ibstock United and then Aylestone Park. The 2013/2014 season saw the first team achieve a long-term ambition as they won promotion into the Step 6 East Midlands Counties League for the 2014/2015 season after finishing third place in the Leicestershire Senior League. It was a close title race with the top three all finishing level on points with Ashby third on goal difference. The Reserves were also promoted to the Leicestershire Senior League Division One.

AROUND THE COUNTIES
By STAN WILTON
ST ANDREWS continue to lead the table and their 5-0 win over BARROW TOWN confirmed their four point advantage. Tom Downing gave them a fourth minute lead and further goals from Toby Warner, Leon Doughty and another from Downing gave them a comfortable advantage by the break. Warner added a second almost immediately after half time before the Saints took their foot off the gas. HOLBROOK SPORTS got over their midweek slip by thumping GREENWOOD MEADOWS 5-1 at Shaw Lane to move up to second. Matt Harris started the ball rolling in the 16th minute and further goals from Jake Dodds and Vaughn Hallsworth saw the interval advantage commanding., Dodds went on to complete his hat-trick in the second half with Jerome Barracks getting a consolation for the Greens. ASHBY IVANHOE dropped down to third place following their 3-0 defeat to ARNOLD TOWN at Eagle Valley. Jim Price gave the Eagles the lead on the half hour, and two goals in the last ten minutes from Warren Hatfield and Richie Royes completed the victory. SOUTH NORMANTON ATHLETIC went down by the odd goal of five on their visit to HOLWELL SPORTS who are starting to put some consistency into their season. Shane Newton scored the only first half goal giving the Shiners half time bragging rights. But Scott Mooney and Graham Wells reversed the score line early in the second half. Newton restored parity on 78 minutes but Mooney had the last say with Holwell’s 86th minute winner. ANSTEY NOMADS moved out of the bottom four with a 3-0 home win over managerless BORROWASH VICTORIA who have more than form on the field to contend with at the moment. Joe Hartopp opened the scoring after ten minutes; Darren Taylor extended things two minutes before the break and Hartopp got his second goal of the game in the last minute. Improving RADFORD suffered their first defeat for a while at ELLISTOWN & IBSTOCK UNITED where Tom Rowell put the home side ahead in the first minute. He added a second on the hour before Hemagou Kevin cut the lead on 71. Within a minute, however, Jim Smith had opened up the two goal gap and confirmed the 3-1 win. RADCLIFFE OLYMPIC are finding things a struggle this season and went down 5-2 at GEDLING MINERS WELFARE. Ken Reeves gave them an early lead which was cancelled out before half time by Luke Stanley. Mitch Stevenson put Gedling ahead for the first time two minutes after the interval and Matt Gamble levelled it up again with ten minutes left. But not for the first time this season Olympic went to pieces in the last few minutes and goals from Jack Hopper and a brace from Ricky Law gave the Miners three points. Another club finding things tough are GRAHAM STREET PRIMS and they went down to another big defeat this time at home to BARDON HILL. Ryan Pearce and Dan Chatfield had the visitors two goals up inside the first fifteen minutes. Toby Howard got one back for Prims only for Steve Hart, Rich Hanslow and Andy Fell to complete a nap hand for the Quarrymen. The only draw of the day was at the Stag Ground where Liam Honeyman’s 69th minute equaliser for KIMBERLEY MINERS WELFARE cancelled out Joe Preston’s 34th minute opener for BLABY & WHETSTONE ATHLETIC. Jordan Stevens gave STAPENHILL a good start in the eleventh minute and Jamie Disney added to the score twenty minutes later. Keaton Towers pulled one back for AYLESTONE PARK on 71 minutes from the penalty spot but Stapenhill held out for the points.

Post-Match with Rob Harris 3-0 A great result today Rob, a big turnaround from last week where we lost 3-0 at Radford, what are your general thoughts on today’s game? Yeah it’s totally different from last week with an inversed score-line, I thought last week was pretty awful to be honest and we deserved a 3-0 defeat but today tables turned, we were good today, we deserved a 3-0 and we probably should of beat them away as you know, but yeah I’m very happy. What do you find are the key differences that caused us to win 3-0 today instead of lose 3-0? Good question, the game last week we went out there with no tempo, no organisation, today we’ve had a couple changes to personnel and we responded really well and it worked today. Tuesday we face a strong physical side Ashby, last time out we lost 2-0 so what are you going to do to insure that this time we get 3 points? I think if we start out like we did today, last time we played Ashby we were a little bit intimidated but the second half at Ashby if we took our chances then there would have been no reason why we wouldn’t have won. I haven’t seen their result today but Ashby are on the back of a good run at the minute as Borrowash was today so maybe we’ll be the team that puts a thorn in the side of these teams that are on good runs. Do you have any final comments Rob? It’s great to get a win and it’s good to see everyone in the clubhouse happy and smiling. Perhaps last week’s little “moral boosting” trip to Hooters, which I’m sure you enjoyed, has done a world of good. Haha yes it’s worked wonders! Thanks Rob. Thank you very much. -Post-Match Interview &Transcript by Reece Preston-Hayes
