President’s Corner Dan Doyle - President
Hello to all!! Although not a March event, I felt it worth mentioning the Carlin Park Picnic/ Charity Event on February 25, 2018. What a wonderful day it was for everyone who attended! Even better, those who where there were able to support a worthy cause. Thank you all for your contributions! We also had a DE at Homestead-Miami Motor Speedway on March 24-25 and an AutoX on March 25 at BB&T. It was an action-packed weekend for sure but everyone who loves speed and handling had a great time! We also had a major race event occur in the 12 Hour Race at
Sebring International Raceway on March 17. What an awesome race! Thanks to all who attended the PCA tent at the race and who helped staff it. Coming up this month (April) we have an AutoX on April 7 at Sebring. I hope you all get a chance to drive your cars at this event as there is probably no better way to learn car control. Thanks to Steve and Dottie Kidd for all you do. As usual, Porsches & Pancakes is on the first Saturday of the month. Please take the time to join other Porsche fans and talk about your favorite subjects: your car and Porsche! Also, we have our Thursday

melia Island was the place to be again this year for the 2nd annual PCA Werks Reunion. As you can see from the cover photo capturing just a portion of the sea of beautiful Porsches that covered the greens for the PCA family to display and view on Friday. Steve and Dottie Kidd displayed their 944 and also volunteered to setup and work the event with other PCA volunteers with the national PCA staff. One of our members, Dennis Dinsmore provided a great photo of the Porsches on display for the public to enjoy. The Kassette welcomes your photos, articles, and artwork. Next month

we will be featuring the artwork from one of our new sponsors, Ted Jacobs owner of Pixel Movr. Ted donated his artwork to the best in show winner at our Carlin Park Charity Picnic. More on that event along with the DRT Charity event in our next issue. Enjoy the photos from the DRT event and stay tuned for more news about the charity events that Goldcoast is involved with. We will have many photos from the Carlin Park event that was very successful. It was good to see so many members at the Jupiter location just off of A1A just across from the ocean.

Amelia Island Werks Reunion Part II Last year I wrote an article that included bits and pieces of the 1st Werks Reunion at Amelia island. The 2017 event was beyond everyone’s expectations and a success right out of the box. For 2018 Dottie and I had the pleasure of attending as volunteers, serving as judges, and displaying one of our 944s2’s in the corral area. And yes ...we drove our 27 year old Porsche with 164,000 miles up and back ….almost 1000 miles with no problems. Werks is not a coucours, but a gathering of beautiful Porsches. Because the event was on a Friday, March 9th, Werks “only” had about 550 cars. ...about 150 judged cars and around 400 in the corral. The corral was simply a place to park your Porsche with like types and enjoy the camaraderie of others that have the same model. The corral occupied one long fairway of a prestigious golf course and each model had a row, or rows, of 944’s or 356’s or early 911’s....you get the picture. The Judged class was limited in number and was about presentation rather than how shiny each bolt was polished.
For the judged cars, there was a 1-page scoring form, filled out by a judging team for each group of like cars. The judged cars occupied another long fairway which also various motorsport vendors had (including but not limited to PIRELLI TIRES) and impressive displays from PCNA and PCA. The Werks “gathering” represents a big difference from Parade level concours where the judging form is a very busy 7-10 page, with scoring down to 1/10 of a point. Dottie and I judged..... you guessed it transaxle cars, where we had examples of 944’S, 928’S, 968’s and a 924 turbo.....all beautiful and each with a unique story. As the event wound down, trophies were presented to top class winners. These were not just any trophy....they were exquisite Werks gear style examples that would serve to be a center piece on any trophy shelf. Some of the notables taking home trophies were ….surprise....Peter Bartelli, showing his beautiful 1963 356 Carrera 2000GS coupe and Tom Browney showing his silver Panamera GTS.

For the full listing of winners and event pictures, please see the Werks link from the PCA website. So for 2019 …..we’re hoping to get more Gold Coast members to make the trip up to Amelia Island and show their Porsche, have fun, and hopefully bring home some nice hardware. The Werks event is slated to be the week before the 12 hours of Sebring... most likely Friday March 8th for 2019.....so mark your calendars and start thinking of hotel rooms soon as this is a very busy weekend with the Amelia Island Cars and Coffee, Auctions, and Concours on Saturday/Sunday....depending on weather. The magnitude of Werks preparation and logistics was mind boggling. However, to the participant, it was just another great PCA event that members have come to expect. This is one of four PCA National level events to come to Florida, so if you want to expand your PCA horizons, come on out to one of these events and meet PCA members from all over the country.....Speaking of National events, remember the Porsche Parade is coming to Boca Raton in July 2019...more on that later...... Autocross Update Autocross event #2 was back at BB&T and we were blessed with a good turnout and fabulous weather. While we did everything within our power to kick off live timing for the March event, the tech gods said otherwise and we will need to wait another month to preview the latest advances in autocross timing technology. For those that have never heard of live timing, its real time access to autocross results, updated every minute, and available on your smart phone. If you are a competitor, this means you can watch your competitions times flash on your cell phone screen so you don’t have to hoover over timing and scoring to see if you beat your competition....or if they beat you. It also means that spectators and participants don’t have to wait for printed results to be posted on the trailer. If you are really lazy it means you can stay at home, assume the couch potato posture, log onto the GCR website, go to the live timing portal and see how your friends are doing while you enjoy your day off. Speaking of results, please check our GCR website for final results from event 1 and 2 under the autocross tab. For event 2, the battle for FTD was extremely close ...and you will have to go to the website to see who won the battle between Porsche and Mazda. Gold Coast Region (GCR) has one of the most progressive autocross programs within PCA. If you have never seen or tried autocrossing come on out and visit an event. We have some of the best and most patient instructors, as well as loaner helmets for 1st timers. Don’t be afraid if you aren’t quite ready to compete....The focus is on being safe and having fun. We all start somewhere on the learning curve, but the key is to keep doing more events and learning. We provide more runs than most clubs and have a reputation for friendliness, safety and efficiency. Event 3 April 7th at Sebring on the concrete strip for a fast course on really grippy concrete. I wish more folks would make the trip out to Sebring as this site is similar to Buckingham field and we usually get 16-20 runs due to smaller turnouts. There will also be a mini school for 1st times …..please see the event options for the April Autocross if you want to register for 1 of only 10 student slots Event 4 May 13 a Sunday event at BB&T. This will be our 2nd of 4 events at BBT and our 1st of the year on a Sunday. This will be our Porsche Mothers day special....stay tuned for more. This will be the last of our winter / spring Autocrosses, with action picking back up in September, October and November.

As always a big thanks to all our regular participants, instructors and team of volunteers that organize, set-up, tear down and do 100’s of behind the scene details that make these events possible. This month’s salute goes to Ian, Jake and Steve for the monumental effort spent trying to kick off live timing. Waiting thru hours of Tech support is never fun, but we are almost there and the results will be highly appreciated when the bugs are worked out of the system. New comers Chuck and Wendy Limroth donated another speaker to the PA system they donated a few months ago and are stepping up to work in timing and scoring. Also thanks to Rivas Motorsports for storing our Autocross trailer and to Foreign Affairs and Ernie Bello Motorsports for loaner helmet donations. And how can we forget Paul Raben who comes out and provides a lunch option. Chef Paul tries to mix up the offerings and this month he had roast turkey breast sandwiches....as well as hotdogs, snacks and drinks. News, reminders and 2018 updates: • Everyone is now required to pre register for any AutoX on Clubregistration.net… Please consult the GCR website and Kassette for all Autocross photos & results. • Porsche classes are loosely based on the PCR’s for medium size regions, with minor regional adjustments. The major difference will be the addition of SN (stock car/ novice driver) for men and ladies. These classes are strictly for newcomers only. Please see Steve for any car class questions or if you wish to run as a novice. We reserve the right to make additional class/rule changes as needed. • Our 2018 series are planned to be 7 events. To be eligible for an end of the year award, competitors must run in at least 4 events in the same class. Each competitor’s top 4 finishes will be calculated and an end of the year class champion and possibly runner-up (depending on class size) will be chosen. In case of a tie, additional events will be added until the tie is broken. Year-end class champion awards will be presented. • No passengers except for an approved AX instructor driving or in the car instructing. • Questions…..call Steve or Dottie Kidd 954946-3196 • For 2018 our advise is please register early. As a reward, early registrants will see no increase in price, however those registering the last week before the event will see an increase in event registration price. While we typically do not allow on-site registration, if we do, your registration fee will increase to a minimum of $55.The best advise is to register early, as some events to have caps and we charge a premium fee if you register 1 week or less from the event date.
