Rennbow, the Porsche Color Wiki, is the largest collection of Porsche images on the Web, all organized by color. It’s interactive too, you can upload images of your car and make them part of a database of over 4,000 images that grows every day. Each color has commentary about the color and a rareness rating. Rennbow is also the home of Porsche Color-centric content that is updated regularly.

President’s Corner Steve Kidd - President
2020 has not been the year any of us imagined when we rang in the New Year. We have all felt the sense of uncertainty caused by COVID-19. Never have we felt less in control, personally and professionally. These new challenges have forced big decisions. Our dedicated Board of Directors has contemplated numerous options for our 2020 events. After internal discussion and review, we have decided we cannot, prudently, host close quartered events in the near future. Hopefully things will improve and we can resume a modified schedule around September. The health, safety, and well-being of our members is our number one priority. Without a clear picture of how the virus will be impacting lives come the fall, and with no influence or control over potential new or ongoing safety processes, we have concluded that we cannot confidently provide a safe environment for a large indoor gathering of Porsche enthusiasts at this time. Thank you for your continued patience as we proceed to work through the challenges brought forward by the COVID-19 pandemic. Our plan continues to be… monitor current conditions and proceed with caution. This is especially important in light of the fact that there has been a recent spike in COVID-19 cases, with mandatory mask requirements in many areas and businesses being fined or shut down for not following social distancing protocols. Miami-Dade, Broward and Palm Beach Counties persist on having the majority of COVID-19 cases and deaths in Florida and the tri-county area continues to be a hot bed for risk. With the latest turn of events, it appears that social distancing; face masks, sanitizer and Communicable Disease Waivers/releases (CDW) will be with us for awhile. The CDW will only be required at events that are held in controlled access spaces. This eliminates the complication of completing waivers in a public space such as a parking lot at a coffee shop or at a concours. Controlled access events are moving car events or social events where you have pre-registration and/or collection of registration fees. Given these procedures, some smaller PCA regions in areas less affected by the virus have put on successful outdoor events
recently, most notably track events and autocross. Additionally, Club Registration recently announced that PCA approved eWaivers for ClubRegistration.net event registrants. This free service can be enabled through the Admin menu by clicking My Account-Edit Club. Once turned on it applies to all current and future events. A Waiver report can be exported through the Report Builder to see which Registrants have eSigned both the CDW and General Event Waivers. The registrants are required to perform a few steps. 1) Enable eSigning through their Profile. 2) Request the document link via email after registering. (This is done through the Dashboard screen) and 3) Sign the waiver. More information about this service will be available in the future Despite the situation, PCA members still have a number of options to enjoy activities which include, but are not limited to, electronic events, webinars, sim racing, on-line tech tactics, Rennbow, impromptu drives among small groups of friends, and of course our very own 9XX project and virtual car shows and happy hours. A big thank-you to all those members that organize these new types of endeavors. We will continue to communicate regularly to keep members informed about fresh activities. Moving forward, here are some ideas to help keep our Gold Coast members involved: A regional photo contest similar to what we see on e-brake news every Tuesday. Photos can be of Porsches, club members, or a Porsche activity. We will need members to submit photos and probably ask for a few volunteer judges. Most likely there would be multiple categories and the pictures could be published on the GCR website, the Kassette or e-mail blasts. If this really took off we could have prizes and recognition for the best of the best. More articles from members about what they are doing to stay engaged during the pandemic. Most likely a bi monthly e-mail blast with a paragraph about what individual members have done to keep their innermost Porsche soul alive. Some examples we have heard about include: A modification or upgrade to your Porsche….Tell the readers why you chose this project, if you did the work yourself and if yes, what were the biggest challenges
to the work and of course, the results. Another topic might be any road trip you recently took in your Porsche….Tell us about where you went, why you chose that location, and any excitement you may have encountered on route (could be that beautiful waterfall you encountered or the flat tire that presented unexpected challenges). A final example could be any innovative or public service oriented projects that have sprung up and flourished during the crisis….Did you help with a food drive, did you make masks or other PPE, or did you assist in any efforts for the good of the community? Another activity might be to further recognize those on the front line in the battle to minimize the coronavirus. The front line could be doctors, nurses, first responders, researchers and any other group that is doing all they can to make a difference. These groups are much more at risk than most of us and should be continually thanked for their service during these difficult times. Again, if you have an activity or idea to help Gold Coast Region advance thru these unprecedented times, feel free to give me a call at 954 946-3196. Looking forward we hope to offer a few activities in September, including the new member social / Hagerty youth car judging contest. This will be contingent on getting the park or facility to re-approve the revised concept, deal with possible size limitations, and revisions to food /beverage arrangements. If this event can’t proceed as planned, alternative options are being considered, such as a drive to see the murals in Lake Placid, with possibly 3 departure points and staggered arrival times. For those that remember the last time GCR did a Zonefest about 5 years ago, we had a very popular tour of these murals. It’s a great drive, the murals are fantastic, and it could be structured to practice social distancing. In October we are hoping to offer an AutoX at Sebring on October 10th, a DE at Homestead on October 31/ November 1 and the popular road trip to North Carolina mountains around October 2225. November and December have a few plans in the works; however a lot can change depending on the course the coronavirus takes. Stay safe and hoping to see everyone at an appropriate time. Steve

Editor’s Notes
I
would like to thank all of the members who are providing articles, ideas, and feedback to help thru these times of no PCA events. Please check out our Mission 9XX participation and artwork submitted by our members. Cynthia who was busy as a bee and Christy have provided details about the project. The phone has been non stop with feedback on the artwork provided by automotive artist and good friend to the club David Chapple. While we can’t go out and enjoy our normal driving events members are enjoying the artwork David shared with us and the virtual Internet events
Roger Fabel- Editor
that Ian our webmaster is creating. More events are planned and we will be providing training for those that are not virtual event savvy. David has provided more artwork for your enjoyment. We have also started back with a short tech quiz scheduled for each month. A good way to practice for the next Parade. Times have been tough on us all, Some of our advertisers are taking a break as business has slowed down. Please visit our advertisers who help to support our region with their strong support. Some have been with us for more than twenty years such as Foreign Affairs Motorwerks located in
Pompano Beach. As a thank you to our advertisers we are developing an Advertiser section that will be rolled out on our website in the next few months. Keep your ideas flowing and share your Porsche stories with us like the lucky couple Susan and Norm Snesil who won the PCA raffle. I hope you also enjoy the cool cruise that Chip took in his Macan and trailer out west, what a way to travel. Stay tuned to our e-mail blast as we plan to safely open our social program after the summer. Stay safe an we hope to see you soon,
Roger

PCA Raffle Winners by Susan and Norm Snesil
Would you believe....... We have been PCA members and Porsche owners for many years and have always purchased tickets for the PCA raffle. In December, with time running out, we were debating whether to purchase one this time. Susan’s birthday was the next day and she has always wanted a Boxster, so we ended up purchasing one. Fast forward to a Sunday in January
10
Die Porsche
when Susan found the ticket receipt and, thinking we were out of luck, Norm decided to build a Boxster for Susan on the Porsche Car Configurator. The next morning, to our surprise and amazement, Vu Nguyen, PCA Executive Director, and Steve Kidd, President Gold Coast PCA and Dottie Kidd, Secretary, Gold Coast PCA showed up at our door (like Publisher’s Clearing
Kassette | Aug 2020
House) with the announcement that we had won third place in the raffle. Their timing was unbelievable as the night before, we made the decision to buy the Boxster. Needless to say, we were in shock. We have never won anything! Once the shock of winning subsided, we began our research into a new Boxster. With the knowledge that the
new build Boxsters would not be available until late summer, we began a search for a 718 Boxster GTS we could get quickly. After an exhaustive search, we were able to find the perfect car, a 718 Boxster GTS, that checked off the important boxes on our car build including the colors we had picked! Vu Nguyen from PCA was extremely helpful in explaining how to claim the car and to conclude the purchase through Braman Porsche Palm Beach. We took delivery on
Valentine’s Day and have been enjoying the car ever since! The car is GT Silver Metallic with a Black top, black leather interior with carbon fiber trim. It has the PASM Sport Suspension, safety bars in exterior color and many other options. While we needed to kick in some extra money for the car, it has made us both very happy. Susan has laid claim to it and drives it everywhere! Long trips have been curtailed for the moment as the virus struck right after delivery, but there have been
some fun trips on the Turnpike and I-95 just to see what the car can do! Let’s just say that the car handles like a dream and is very fast and responsive. We are enjoying every day of our new 718 Porsche Boxster GTS and are looking forward to a long road trip in the near future! We’d like to thank Steve and Dottie for their help and insight and also Vu Nguyen for his professionalism and expertise. Their assistance and support made this very exciting event even more enjoyable for us.

Completed - Deemed A Success! Project facilitated by Ian Gerada and Christy Spangler “The Gold Coast Region has embarked on a mission! - A noble mission, a mission of hope.” The current events have touched all of our lives and this has been a difficult time for many. As social distancing and stay at home orders were coming into full swing, the May board meeting was held via conference call. I attended as a member to see what was happening and how our region was responding to what was going on. Our region activities were being cancelled or postponed, and the board began to brainstorm on how to keep our membership, you all, engaged. Ian Gerada had seen a project done by the Potomac Region where their board members sent a message to their membership and suggested that we do a similar project. I had also seen that project and volunteered to covertly assist Ian to make it happen. We immediately got to work.
Ian and I wanted to tailor a message to our members as well as include them (you) in this project. We decided to use a Mission Impossible theme and Ian came up with “Mission 9XX.” We then brainstormed what the message would be. While walking my dog, Titan, I was able to formulate a message. Ian broke the message down into 30 words and phrases so that we could recruit 30 volunteers to participate. “Mission Details Received and Understood;” the 30 volunteer agents were in place. Agent Ian assigned them a word or phrase and it was up to them to interpret and be creative with that word or phrase and submit photo evidence. Agent Ian received the images and created a collage poster of them and the following message came together: ‘The Gold Coast Region appreciates our members and recognizes that these challenging times are separating us. If you are an essential worker, choosing to stay at home or out for a drive in your Porsche, be safe and stay healthy until we can drive
together and be together again. Remember, it’s not just the cars, it’s the people.” A poster will be printed and framed for auction to raise money for one of our charities. Unframed posters may be available for purchase with the proceeds also going to one of our charities. Agent Ian and I would like to thank the Gold Coast Region agents who bravely volunteered to take on this very important mission. Editor: “What is the story behide your eye catching creation?” Cynthia: The Boxster & 911 are yellow and bees have always enjoyed the color as they try to mate with the cars or at least pollinate them. Bees are very important in nature & try to help and save The Bees campaign. I also enjoy eating honey regularly. So stay safe for me became “Be Safe” and due to my love of bees, I just happened to have the Cool stuffed bee and necklace— hence my photo.

Behind - the - Scenes by Christy Spangler For Mission 9XX, I was assigned the word “people.” With a graphic design background, my creativity began to flow. Do I illustrate people in a crowd? Do I illustrate faces? Then it hit me - the people are us, the members of the Gold Coast region. I’ll create a photo collage of us. I took a deep dive into the back of my closet and found my art supplies that have been sitting there for who knows how long. Poster board, check. Matboard, check. Xacto knife and sharp blades, check. Glue, check. I hand drew the letters “PEOPLE,” then cut them out on the poster board.
Next, I combed through my photos of GCR events as well as the GCR Facebook page photos and printed a whole bunch of them out. While having random movies on in the background, I began cutting and pasting and putting together the collage of photos within the “PEOPLE.” letters. Well, I enjoyed working a creative project with my hands and thought, why don’t I layer this up? So I glued the “PEOPLE” collage on top another sheet of poster board and cut around it to create a border. Then I thought, how about some dimension?
I created blocks of matboard and glued that to the back of the “PEOPLE’’ collage then affixed it on the black matboard backing. Finally, it was time to take the photo which was a challenge in itself since it was raining. I set up my iPhone on a tripod and after several takes with and without my dog, Titan, I finally got it! Mission 9XX completed! The next time we get together, perhaps I will bring the collage along.

Autocross Update by Steve Kidd, Autocross Chair As many of you know, GCR had a very challenging “first half” autocross season. While events 1 & 2 went as planned, events 3& 4 were canceled due to Corona virus concerns. A new event 3 is being rescheduled for Saturday October 10th at Sebring in conjunction with the Suncoast Region DE. While this is a long ways away, there are a few options to get your AutoX fix. You will read about the option Dottie and I tried recently. Luckily, autoX is an outdoor activity and it's easier to social distance than indoor restaurant type events. To get an idea of what our future autocrosses might look like, we attended Peachstate Region's 1st autoX of 2020 on June 27 on our way up to Tennessee. First of all, I need to compliment Peachstate Region (the large region in the Atlanta Ga area) for their preparation and obsession to keep everyone safe. They had canceled earlier AX events and appeared concerned with getting it right with their 1st event under Covid19 precautions. Here are some of our observations, and many of the practices we will utilize at our next event: • Only one entry point was utilized and pre-registration of registrants and guests was mandatory. • Dottie volunteered to greet folks at the gate and made sure they were on the registration list and had a mask. If they did not have a mask, she gave them one. All entrants and guests were handed a packet with a pen, 3 waiver forms to sign, driver meeting notes/new safety protocols, a wristband and a bottle of hand sanitizer. Entrants were told to pit their cars, sign the forms, and leave the signed forms on the windshield in the plastic pouch. Additionally folks were told to make sure their numbers were on the car and the car was cleaned out for tech. • A masked and gloved tech team came by later, checked the car, picked up the signed forms, and put a tech sticker on the car. • Social distancing was a must for course walking and most walkers wore masks. • There was social distancing everywhere....from the driver meeting to the timing table to the line for the porta-potty. Masks were strongly recommended when appropriate...(no need for a mask when driving). • Only 1 person in the car at a time. Timing wore masks at all times. All radios were brought in after each session and sanitized before the next worker groups took them back out. That's an overview of the safety side. Operationally, things went equally well. The course was long and fast ...similar to the type of course we see at Buckingham Airport, 3-4 cars on the course at the same time, 2 groups... everyone was either running or working with 10 runs provided on a course averaging around a minute. By the way, did I mention that this AX event was held in one of the parking lots at Atlanta Motorsports Park? The lot used is huge, open and has no parking bumpers or islands....more like an airport than a parking lot. Another observation....most of the 70 participating cars were Porsches...some like us were from out of region...as far away as Chicago. BMW's seemed to be the next biggest group, as the BMW club uses the AMP lot for their events also. By far the biggest group seemed to be the Boxster/Cayman platform, followed by 911's. There was one other 944, a 914, and even a 550 spyder replica. The moral of the story is: AutoX is alive and well outside of Southeast and Southwest Florida, Take a look at other regions and consider a road trip ...in our case it was fun and we have a really good idea of best practices to utilize in the future. As for GCR's plans for future events, we are fairly confident our October 10 event will happen and hopefully 1-2 other events. Bottom line...our 2020 AX series could be as few as 3 or as many as 5 events...... BTW...we are still looking for additional AX sites ...could be this misfortune could open up other large paved areas for us to try...If you know of such an opportunity give me a call Steve

From the Members Summer Vacation in my Macan by Chip Kalkhof
Last summer I went cross country to visit friends and family. Kansas City Kansas, Colorado and Bend,Oregon Were some of the great places I stayed with friends. From Oregon I went to stay with relatives in Benicia California where we visited several wineries in Napa Valley. I then went to Yosemite where I took this photo on the right. I stayed in numerous RV campgrounds in between staying with folks. Heading back East I visited an old friend on Lake Norman, Cornelius North Carolina. I was gone for six weeks traveling on my own. It was a great trip. Not sure about this year, we’ll see what happens. The first pic I took on a road behind an RV Park I was staying in. I remember it was 105 f on the dashboard. The pic below almost looks like I was moving.

Gold Coast Re-
Gold Coast Region History by Mike Roblin, DE Chair
by Steve Kidd, GCR Historian
Let’s look back to 1963. Porsche Club of America was about eight years old and there were approximately 50 PCA Regions, mostly in large metropolitan areas. At the start of 1963 two chartered regions were in Florida: the Central Florida Region (at the time headquartered around New Smyrna Beach) and Suncoast Region (that listed their address of record in St Petersburg Florida) Back in those days, the predominate street Porsche was a 356 with the 911 still in the pre-production stages. South Florida did have a fair number of Porsches and the process to start a new region was relatively easy because there were lots of areas in the country that were not included in an existing region. Today new region formation is more difficult because all areas are included in existing regions and any new region would have to be carved out of an existing region. Earliest indications suggest a group of South Florida Porsche owners were regularly getting together and discussing the possibility of forming their own region. The first formal meeting of this group was believed to be held at the Satellite Motel in Pompano Beach somewhere around September 1963. A document in our files indicates that what was to become Gold Coast Region made application on November 15, 1963, to PCA National President, T Kendall Twig, regarding formation of what is now Gold Coast Region. The petition reads in part “The undersigned, all members in good standing of the Porsche Club of America, herewith petition for recognition as a “Chartered Region” of the Porsche Club of America. The name of the Region will be PCA, Gold Coast Region, and the official mailing address will be (street omitted) Delray Beach Florida. If Charter is granted, the PCA, Gold Coast Region will observe the requirements and objectives set forth in the By-Laws of the Porsche Club of America and will conduct itself in such a manner as to be a credit to PCA and the Marque” The initial boundaries of Gold Coast Region were to include the following counties: Dade, Broward, Collier, Lee,

Hendry, Charlotte, Sarasota, Desoto, Glades, Highlands, Okeechobee, Palm Beach, Martin, St. Lucie, and Monroe. As we are aware, Gold Coast no longer has all these counties as some were given up to Suncoast and others were spun off to form Big Cypress Region (which later became Everglades Region) The end result was the issuance of a PCA Charter to Gold Coast Region on December 14, 1963. Over the years things have changed and we grew from a small group of about 25 enthusiasts to a region with over 3,000 members. All chartered regions were listed in the Porsche Panorama and Gold Coast was formally listed as a chartered region sometime in early 1964. The following members should be acknowledged as our founding officers: Charles Wick, President Frank Sclawy, Vice President Richard Morrison, Secretary T. N. Wilder, Treasurer

Back in the early 1960’s much of the early GCR paperwork is hand written. The Porsche Panorama was starting to use some color and greytone. In the July 1964, the Panorama was up to 24 pages . Gold Coast Region is in this issue of Pano and listed using Richard Morrison as the point of contact and the address of record in Pompano Beach, Fl. In the mid 60’s, Pano was was mostly technical articles , with very little advertising, however if someone did want to place a ¼ page ad the cost was $15.00.One of the most interesting articles in July 1964 Pano was a test of the 904 GTS ,(considered by some to be the best looking car Porsche ever built). Did you know you could buy this super car for $7200. at the Porsche factory! Any idea of what those cars are worth today? When they do come up for sale most sell for well over a million dollars. Besides being beautiful the 904 was really quick...the article indicates the 904 could go from 0-60 5.6 seconds ...very quick for the day. Want to learn more about GCR’s roots???Stay tuned for more articles from our early history, most likely every other month. Steve Kidd ,PCA member since 1972
About the Cover artwork by David Chapple
Ribbon Candy emerged from my "love affair" with the 917K. David created it for his first Automotive Fine Arts Society exhibition at the Pebble Beach Concours in 2013. Many of his sculptures are based as linear forms. The line form also flows throughout his benches, tables and my wall sculptures. When creating Ribbon Candy, David’s purpose was to start at the front of the 917k with each piece shaped the same. As the sculpture flows to the back of the car, each piece has a different flair to show depth and air flow as if the 917 were morphing with the speed. The sculpture is hand painted acrylic on wood with clear coat. Each sculpture is hand created as an original, one of a kind piece of art. 22" w x 20" h x 4" d. This is the second cover that David’s artwork has been featured on Die Porsche Kassette. Thanks to the members and other PCA members for your feedback on David’s artwork and thanks to David Chapple for sharing his artwork and stories behind his creations.
