FIRST TURN Peter Olliviere, President

HAPPY HOLIDAYS and Happy New Year. It takes a bit of a mental adjustment since I am writing this in November, and you won’t see it until December, still on time, but requiring this adjustment on my part as to what is going on in the region. Right now, we are in the middle of planning for Thanksgiving, and I hope you have a lot to be thankful for. The Gold Coast Region has lots of things on the grateful side of the ledger. Several Dine and Drive events, going for Stone Crabs, a very successful tour to North Carolina, runs to the Keys and the Poker Run around Miami. We have had a very successful year, and it is not over yet. We still have the Holiday Luncheon on December 2nd, and the Treffen Cruise leaving on December 9th for the Caribbean. What a great way to top off a year!

One of the things I am really looking forward to is the Diecast Concours. This event was held on last year’s cruise which I was unable to attend, but when I heard it would be back this year, nothing was going to make me miss this event. I have been a modeler all my life, from remote control scale model airplanes, to racing scale hydroplanes competitively on the East Coast. This love of modeling worked well with my love of cars because it allowed me to collect an array of highly detailed Diecast model cars that always appealed to my love of timeless design. When I decided to enter, my biggest challenge was to choose a car. When you are limited to one brand of car, it is difficult to choose something unique and different. I decided to go back

to the sixties and chose a highpoint in the history of Porsche, the 1962 Porsche 804 Formula One Race Car. This was Porsche’s only attempt in Formula One Racing with the car driven by Dan Gurney who won the French Grand Prix and went on to win two more Grand Prix victories including the Nuremberg Ring in Germany. Porsche never withdrew from Formula One, but those cars never raced again. So, I have entered a highly detailed 804 racing car which I have to carefully transport to the cruise ship and home again afterwards, but it’s all worth the effort. Win or lose I’m looking forward to the gathering of highly detailed models to view and appreciate.

SHIFT INTO SOCIAL Article by Christy Spangler, Social

While the rest of the country bundles up for winter, GCR members have the pleasure of enjoying December drives under the warm sun. There is a unique charm to the Porsche lifestyle in the Sunshine State during the holiday season. Whether you are cruising along the beach, enjoying the holiday lights with the top down or headed off to holiday festivities, this is a wonderful time of year to enjoy the Porsche life. This year is quickly coming to an end. We held over 17 social events, almost to the amount we had pre-COVID days. The Social Committee has already begun to look towards 2024 to start planning events and drives.

KEY STROKES Roger Fabel, Editor

How did we go through the year at Porsche speed? They say, “ time flies when you are having fun,” and we have witnessed a year full of fun events. Our social team has been hard at work providing many more events than we have seen in recent years. As more volunteers get involved, the program is able to grow.

open for volunteers; sign up early and reserve your spot in this great racing event at Sebring. We will have an article next month about volunteering to help new members understand the event. Page 5 has a flyer about the event. For more details contact Paul Raben, Volunteer Chair or Sherry Fabel, our Track Volunteer Coordinator.

Besides social events, our driving events increased with the Drivers Education program coming back from a break. Great planning, hard work and volunteer support from a group of dedicated PCA members got Gold Coast back on track at HomesteadMiami Speedway.

We hope you are enjoying the Kassette, our monthly club magazine. If you have an interesting article about your Porsche experience, please share it with our team. Member articles are always welcome. We can also use event and member photos. Some of our fantastic cover photos have come from our members, just like our current cover which may be a contender for the national newsletter best cover competition.

We also had an increase in sponsor support at the 48 Hours at Sebring event last year. Registration is now

Regarding our Kassette magazine, we have a professional and hardworking staff but we are always looking for more help from our talented GCR members. Last year we filled the replacement position for Copy Editor. In 2024 we are looking for a Graphic Artist to help with the magazine layout. If you have a graphics background and would like to volunteer your time and talent, please contact the editor. We are always open to your feedback and suggestions, so don’t be shy. Our objective is to provide our members with interesting and educational news about Gold Coast. Congratulations on being part of our 60 year PCA history!!!

START YOUR ENGINES PCCB Brakes: The Pinnacle of Automotive Stopping Power Ian Gerada, Membership Chair

In the world of high-performance automobiles, every component is meticulously designed to offer the best in terms of performance, safety and efficiency. Among these components, brakes play a pivotal role ensuring that the vehicle can decelerate rapidly and safely. Enter PCCB brakes, or Porsche Ceramic Composite Brakes, a cuttingedge braking system that has set new standards in the automotive industry. What are PCCB Brakes? PCCB brakes are a type of ceramic composite brake system developed by Porsche for their high-end and performance-oriented vehicles. Unlike traditional iron brake discs, PCCB brake discs are made from a composite material that includes silicon carbide, enhancing their durability and performance. Advantages of PCCB Brakes Weight Reduction: Ceramic brake discs are significantly lighter than their iron counterparts. This reduction in weight improves handling, acceleration and deceleration of the vehicle.

Durability: PCCB brakes are known for their longevity. They are resistant to wear and can last longer than the traditional brake systems, especially under high-performance driving conditions. Performance: With their ability to handle high temperatures, PCCB brakes offer consistent performance, even under extreme braking scenarios. This ensures that the braking force remains consistent, reducing the chances of brake fading. Reduced Brake Dust: One of the notable benefits of ceramic brakes is the minimal production of brake dust. This not only keeps the wheels cleaner but also reduces environmental pollution. Are there any drawbacks? While PCCB brakes are exceptional in terms of performance, they come with a hefty price tag. Replacing ceramic brake discs can be significantly more expensive than traditional iron discs. However, given their longevity and performance benefits, many highperformance car enthusiasts see it as a worthy investment.

My Thoughts on PCCB brakes PCCB brakes represent the forefront of braking technology, offering unparalleled performance and durability. While they might be an expensive option for those seeking the pinnacle of automotive performance, PCCB brakes are hard to beat. Whether it is for the racetrack or the open road, these brakes ensure that drivers have the stopping power they need, when they need it the most. New Member Numbers As of November 1, 2023, our Gold Coast Region is thrilled to host a robust membership of 3,329 individuals. This count comprises 2,217 primary members, 1,112 comembers and an excited group of 286 PCA Juniors. For all the newcomers amongst us, we would like to express our heartfelt welcome to you, and we eagerly anticipate meeting you at an upcoming PCA event.

GCR North Carolina Adventure Article by Ed Blair, Tour Chair

The Gold Coast Region Porsche Club’s annual trip to North Carolina was an overwhelming success for 2023. Altogether there were 30 attendees and 17 cars.

The Switzerland Inn never fails to impress. The setting is right off the Blue Ridge Parkway and the long views from the back of the hotel are breathtaking.

This year we stayed at the Switzerland Inn, just northeast of Asheville in Spruce Pine, North Carolina. Driving consisted of spectacular scenic touring punctuated by bouts of spirited driving. There was something for every skill level. During the drives, the fall leaf colors were incredible. We visited the Sierra Nevada Brewing Company, Grandfather Mountain, Linville Falls Winery, The Kitchen at Grace Meadows Farm and the Tennessee Hills Distillery, just to name a few.

I started putting these trips together in 2019 and they only seem to get better and better each year. I would like to take this opportunity to thank the members that made it out this year. You are what makes these trips so special. I would also like to take a moment and thank Ian Gerada for scouting out a fantastic restaurant to cap off an epic drive and to everyone that contributed photos. I will soon be working on our 2024 trip and I look forward to our next North Carolina adventure together. Have a wonderful holiday season!

When Lee Walton, Carolynn Ditrichs, Christy Spangler and Mike Manke stopped at a scenic overlook, they were greeted by a beautiful rainbow.

Christy Spangler congratulates Ed Blair, the tour organizer and leader, for another great trip to North Carolina

Not So Spooky Social Tavolino Style Article by Social Team

On Saturday, October 28, PCA/GCR Board Member Mike Del Pozo was at it again as he brought his Tri-County Porsche Social Tour to Tavolino Della Notte in Coral Springs. Located in North West Broward, Tavolino’s is a contemporary Italian restaurant that offered a unique venue for our “Porsches, Potions & Pumpkins” October social. Many Porsches (and Porsche drivers) were decked out in true Halloween fashion with spiders, ghosts and skeletons. The judges made their rounds and voted Mike Del Pozo as the winner of the “Fan Favorite” decorated PCar with Christy Spangler voted as the runner up.

ziti, chicken marsala, sausage and peppers, hoagies and much more. As an added bonus to the fantastic food, the first 50 PCA members to check in at the event received a free drink ticket. We would like to offer a huge thank you to Chef Bruno and his Tavolino team for going above and beyond for this fun event. And a special shout out goes to Damon Davis of Davis Cigars 1276 for providing some great cigars.

The sun was shining and the music was pumping as the amazing DJ kept the energy going while close to 50 Porsches and 80 GCR members showed up to display their prized possessions and celebrate all things Porsche. In grand Italian style, Chef Bruno offered a never-ending Italian buffet that included tasty meatballs, baked

AROUND THE by Steve Kidd

Our last event of 2023 was held on October 19 at Port St. Lucie Fairgrounds in Fort Pierce. We were extremely lucky to be blessed with excellent weather, a great group of competitors and some fabulous volunteers that helped make this event possible. Also noteworthy, is the fact that everybody had the opportunity to get 12 runs if they wanted to, and the course was relatively easy to follow with few off courses.

16

Special thanks to Tom and Guy for helping me set up the course, to James and Julie who are always there to support our events and do timing and to newcomers Mark and Paige for jumping in and working where needed. The teardown crew did a remarkable job of getting the cones picked up and the trailer packed in record time. The fastest time of day went to Ed Young driving his 2019 GT3. While Ed had the fastest time, everybody saw improvements as the day went along in addition to lots of smiles and bonding with their cars.

Die Porsche Kassette | December 2023

Your GCR autocross team has two events scheduled at Port St. Lucie Fairgrounds on May 11 and October 19. The first AX event of 2024 will be at Sebring on January 6 using the skid pad and a familiar course, so mark your calendars. Congratulations to our class champions for 2023! The results are on the GCR website and special awards are planned. Remember that if you run our autocross series, you will need to compete in at least four of the seven events and hopefully beat your competitors.

FINDING GOLD Mitch Weinberg He plays with cars and airplanes… Member Feature by Mark Johnson His passion for Porsche, lots of Porsches really, started at the early age of nine years old. Mitch Weinberg read every issue of his dad’s car magazines. As a kid, he knew from his readings that Porsche autos were built to a higher standard, they were much cooler than the other cars in his Matchbox car collection and they were the first choice on his annual gift list for either his birthday or the holidays. Mitch’s dad, Herb Weinberg, suggests that his son’s love of Porsches became a bit of a family joke. Porsche was number one on every gift wish list from the time he was nine until he was twenty-two years old. Putting a Porsche at the top of the list before new blue jeans (probably not underwear or pj’s), was laughable to the Weinberg family. The top spot on the list did not change for years. It commanded the number one spot right up to the point of Mitch’s graduation from the University of Denver School of Business (DU). After graduation, a Porsche was no longer placed at the top of the list. It was time to find a job.

Mitch Weinberg with a thought we can all cherish! corporations that offered a higher level of compensation. It was a substantial difference, but dad suggested that joining him in the business would be a better move. The compensation at the family business would be somewhat less, but the bonus/hook was that dad would help Mitch acquire his first Porsche. That became quite a signing bonus, and Mitch joined the company immediately.

Mitch Weinberg is the President of the family business, International Herb wanted Mitch to come to work Aircraft Associates, Inc., which is with him. Mitch had several offers from a commercial aviation jet engine parts provider that is celebrating 45 years in business. Mitch did not start at President, though, he started at a much lower level, sweeping floors and making deliveries for the company at a substantially earlier age. He started at the entry level and rose to the top based on his work ethic, learning the business at every Minty, the 1992 Carrera RS & Mitch

18

Die Porsche Kassette | December 2023

level and smart decision making based on the advice of his superiors. The starting point for his success began as a kid; shoveling snow, painting houses, cutting grass, paper routes, grocery store clerk and bag boy; basically, anything to generate income to buy a 10-speed bike (first), and then for his first car, a 1968 Pontiac Firebird Convertible. The jobs developed the work ethic. The car developed his feeling and appreciation for automobiles. This love was stoked by Herb Weinberg with Mitch at his hip. Together they worked on several cars to give his son an appreciation for the car and how they operated, and what maintenance and care was required to achieve perfection and total enjoyment. The work on cars started as a 3-year-old. Later, dad brought home a ’64 Corvette Convertible when Mitch was 15 years of age. A general restoration effort followed, it kept Mitch out of trouble and led to his driver’s license and becoming a member of the Corvette Club, as their youngest member.

Mitch and his GT3RS visit the “Launch Pad” at Lake Okeechobee The reading of the car mags, the work with dad on the Firebird and Corvette, the knowledge of the quality and beauty of Porsche led him to the purchase of his first PCar, a 1982 911 SC in Pewter. Dad’s “signing bonus” was sourced at a dealer in Vermont while living in Florida. Mitch flew to Bradley Field in Windsor Locks, CT. The dealer met him when he arrived and delivered the SC at the airport parking lot after he landed. Mitch had no clue that the ignition key was on the left side of the steering wheel or that the pedals were hinged differently. The dealer simply gave Mitch the keys and bid him adieu. He figured out the Porsche basics and drove home to Florida. That was Porsche #1. Today, Mitch is now at Porsche #87 and climbing. Mitch met his wife Pascale, on a blind date. He was driving a 1984 Metallic Black 944. Pascale did not know what kind or type of car it was. It was the third Porsche for Mitch. But SHE WAS THE ONE, as she was not like most of the other ladies in South Florida. They have been married now for thirty-six years with two sons and

two very cool cats. Both boys are in their early thirties with one in the family aviation business and the second living in Portland, OR. The oldest son drives a Macan, and the younger son drives a Subaru while working in the video game industry. The Subaru thing is a bit territorial being in a tree and mountain area, not uncommon with the Subaru impact in the North Carolina, Colorado and New England areas. Pascale and Mitch call southwest Broward County their home. It is a short commute to the company business location in Miramar. What about the EIGHTY-SEVEN Porsches mentioned above, and counting? Let’s just say, for now, that it has been a list of beautiful new and pre-owned Porsches that have taken the sports car passion to a totally different level. We will get to the list soon enough. Through International Aircraft Associates (IAA), the company dad founded, Mitch has grown the company to service a global customer base. The customer list includes many companies that service the world’s airlines. Mitch stood on dad’s shoulders and took the company to a

very high level of operational success, literally and figuratively. A major consideration of IAA and the family is their commitment to philanthropy. Mitch offered warehouse space last fall to collect the Hurricane Ian donations made through PCA Gold Coast to support those fellow Floridians impacted on the west coast. GCR filled a U-Haul trailer full of supplies at our Octoberfest 2022 and these were held at IAA with other donated supplies until they were loaded into two tractor-trailers bound for Naples and Fort Myers. An IAA business partner, MD Turbines, supplied the trucks packed with water, food, toiletries and other needed materials to support the health and recovery of the people living within those areas devastated by Hurricane Ian. His company is truly flying. This success allowed him to play with cars, especially the Porsche marque. The current Porsches in the Weinberg fleet consists of a brand spanking new 2024 Dakar in Ice Grey delivered by Porsche West Broward in early October. Then there is the 2023 GT3RS in Artic Grey and a 2022 GT3

for the older Porsches which might be acquired, Mitch has become somewhat of a purist, and he places great efforts to retain all factory parts and appearances.

Airplane wings are this big! Touring in PTS Grey/Black equipped with a full Sonderwunsch spec “Special Wishes” Porsche program, also through PWB, more on that later. The collection also includes MINTY, the 1992 Carrera RS. This European Porsche model provided the basis for the RS America. Mint Green is a very rare color and even more so on the Carrera RS. Another recent addition includes a 1984 944 in Guards Red. There are a couple of other nonPorsche toys in the collection, but as they are not PCars, they will remain unidentified. Mitch prefers vehicles to be purchased as full stock condition, albeit with the myriad of standard and exclusive options and customization offered by Porsche A.G. die Manufaktur. As

With his business travels to Europe, he had the opportunity to see and understand the ROW (Rest of World) Porsche design differences, such as lower suspensions, clear side marker lights, sports seats and roll bars. So, in the early ownership days he often ordered ROW springs and had the car lowered and aligned which substantially improved the driving dynamics of the original U.S. spec vehicles. Of course, roll bars, sports seats and other tasteful modifications were included in various upgrades and personalization. But eighty-seven - patience grasshopper. Driving Porsche furnishes the primary passion. “Our cars are meant to be driven, not polished”, Ferry Porsche. Hence, Mitch and his vehicle of choice mesh perfectly. “I become connected to the car, steering, suspension, brakes and power; no other car can create the same experience!” He has piloted many exotic brands (American, German, Italian, British and Japanese) to see if any other vehicle can provide the same experience. Mitch’s verdict, “None do!” They may be fantastic and phenomenal vehicles, but none compared to a Porsche. “There is no substitute” is a true statement.

Die Porsche Kassette | December 2023

Mitch, Pascale and Herb have participated in multiple PCA and Porsche related events, from autocross, to driver’s education on many racetracks. He has attended tons of picnics, fun rallies, car shows, lunch drives with each being exciting and adventurous. Mitch suggests that the most exciting part is, “being around people with the same passion.” He is continually making new friends and has kept many lifelong friendships all while experiencing a wide variation of personalities and Porsches. Porsches and people, where have we heard that before? One of his PCA mentors is Mr. Kyle Rathbun, past GCR President and current Gulfstream Region President. Kyle is a seriously good driver having competed in both the Daytona 24hour race and at the 12 Hours of Sebring. He is also a PCA National DE instructor, and talented autocrosser. Kyle became a mentor to Mitch when he purchased his second Porsche. He was such a great instructor that the student rose to achieve the “B Stock Champion” in autocross competition with his ’83 944 – two years in a row! Mitch transitioned to driver’s education (DE) in 1985-86 when Ken Fengler, another PCA GCR Past President, and his pal Derek Bell began the DE events for our region. With his increased skill as a driver over many years and a successful career, Mitch began a quest in 2009 to procure a new GT3 Cup Car from Porsche

Mitch and speed and a day at the track!

which documents the Porsche, year acquired, model, color and new vs. pre-owned (see sidebar on page 22). The vehicles are arranged in chronological order based on purchase date. It is stunning. Pick one – any one, and be happy. Just to view the list is amazing. To have owned and driven each Porsche is damn near unbelievable. Yet, he has owned each one.

Eddie Fiuza, Mitch and David Schnorr at the Vault with the #5 Coca Cola 962 Motorsports to use in various DE events. This quest was stoked by a good friend who raced in Porsche Club Racing and suggested that Mitch’s lap times were too fast for a car built for street use. He would be quicker yet, and most definitely safer in a proper race car with full protection. Mitch and Herb were traveling throughout much of the east coast, towing a car to the many DE’s held by the different Regions. The GT3 would be used in this pursuit and would satisfy a boyhood dream of owning and driving a true race car. The solicitation of Porsche Motorsports took a full two years when the Motorsports folks acquiesced and made a 2009 GT3 Cup Car available. In an early drive, Mitch was coached by Rodger Hawley of Orbit Racing and Guy Cosmos. In the first stint on track, Guy drove the GT3 for twenty minutes with Mitch riding shotgun. He watched, learned and gained a totally new perspective and expertise. “Driving a Cup Car is a 100% different experience than a street prepared machine. There are only two driving settings. The first is Gas Full On! And the second, Brakes Full On! Between the two, it is car control and learning how to be smooth despite full threshold braking at the last possible moment.”

Given Mitch’s DE and autocross experience he claims to have mastered the Cup Car and finished each track day all smiles and sweat. Mitch has been a Gold Coast Region PCA member since acquiring his 911 SC in 1982, which makes him a very soon to be 42-year member. That is rare for our Region. During that time his “childhood dream became a lifelong passion, hobby, obsession and reward system.” The recipe that Dr. Porsche concocted was magic to Mitch and so many others. It is an automobile brand that keeps Mitch excited, motivated and even young. Having a supportive wife who equally enjoys the hobby and participates in his “madness” is the lift under his wings. Madness? Not really, but a true desire to experience Porsche’s continuous drive for perfection and creativity. Trips to Germany, visiting with Porsche A.G and U.S. management, Mitch has been told he is their perfect customer and he “has to have the next one, and the one after that, and the one after that!” It’s no wonder that Porsche West Broward (PWB) considers Mitch a premier and highly preferred customer. EIGHTY-SEVEN? Yes, that is the current count. Starting with the 1982 911 SC and then currently at the 2023 Dakar it is an impressive reckoning. Mitch has kept “THE LIST”

An outsider might wonder how a guy could purchase and keep that many Porsches. The truth is that Mitch does not keep any individual car that long. During the “unwrapping” of his 2023 GT3RS that Mitch acquired from PWB on June 25, 2023, his Thursday Night Porsche Pals had the opportunity to participate with Mitch and his dad in taking the wraps off the car. Knowing of Mitch’s penchant for buying and selling his vehicles, primarily to enjoy the next one, we asked Herb on the “over/under” for the GT3RS. Herb suggested six weeks! Mitch must certainly like the GT3RS, he’s still driving it five months later with no prospect of selling this one as of yet. At the same time, the Dakar has just found its way into the collection so everyone is guessing which Porsche might bid farewell. It probably won’t be Minty. With 41 years as a PCA member, and 87 Porsches acquired, it averages to over two new/different Porsches per year, but who’s counting? Mitch, do you have a favorite Porsche? A reader might suggest “the next one,” but it is the GT3 models that arrived in 2004 that resonate. “They were a perfect blend of American Muscle and European go-kart handling/braking.” The GT3 models provide a perfect balance of horsepower and suspension, to the point that it is quite easy to power drift thru corners with great control.” Mitch continues, “Today’s GT cars have such powerful HP and Torque that the car can quickly bite you, one must be delicate with the right foot so as to keep the car damage free.” We might liken the handling of the modern Porsche GT3RS to a

“THE LIST” (it will grow) military jet fighter, armed to the teeth with power, poise and unbelievable handling characteristics. A fighter pilot understands, and Mitch understands. Jets and Porsches, planes and cars, what great toys! He is still a young man. We wonder if Herb has set the over/under on hitting 100? Whether he reaches 100 Porsches is not at all that important, because he is not a collector - he’s an “enjoyer”! Listening to Mitch speak about the car, the brand, etc., is to hear a passionate owner talk about how incredibly special Porsche is. His goal is not several cars, although he hopes to inspire others to become an ambassador and believer in the brand. It is a passion, love and respect for Porsche that was kindled by a supportive father and a life partner who each believed in Mitch. Obtain a solid foundation through your education. Set goals, develop work ethic, work to achieve the goals you have set professionally and personally. Become satisfied, but not completely, as one can always reach higher. Learn to live at various altitudes. There will always be someone higher up the chain, or further down the trough. They each bring value and deserve respect. Mitch is a humble guy, once you get to know him. There are no “putting on airs”. Mitch is a regular guy who wears jeans and a company t-shirt in the office, unless of course customers are involved. His Thursday nights are spent at various local spots around Ft. Lauderdale, Hollywood and north Dade County with a multitude of friends who drive the brand and like to talk about all things Porsche. He has been married for 36 years and is a very long term PCA member. He sets goals then works to achieve them. He values being around successful and positive people. These traits are frequently seen within Porsche owners. Will he reach 100 Porsches purchased? That is not a goal, but it is certainly within reach. Nonetheless, we are certain that his next Porsche is already on a birthday or holiday wish list.

60th Anniversary Mystery Poker Rally Article by Steve Kidd - Photos by George Plucienkowski While Gold Coast Region is not known to be big on rallies, we stepped up to offer our members a mystery poker rally on November 4. The poker rally component is pretty straight forward, that is, each rally team would get a poker card when checking in at the first stop and then at each of the four remaining stops. The winning poker hand would be determined at the end of the rally when everybody showed their hand. The mystery part was a lot more challenging. Each rally team was given a quiz to complete while they navigated the rally route and there were questions at each of the five stops. The questions were about Porsche history, Porsche cars and of course, some Gold Coast Region history that could be found at the various locations. Speaking of locations, I would like to identify and thank each of the five locations/hosts that served as check-in points:

Jagermeister on display at Parkhaus1

Parkhaus1 served as our kickoff location and provided great support (again) and were very enthusiastic and welcoming to the Gold Coast Region members. Detail Garage in Miami not only provided hospitality but a place where car enthusiasts could spend lots of money on car cleaning products. First Class Auto served as a rally stop on this event as well as previous events and is a longtime Kassette advertiser. They also provided snacks, beverages and rides in a GT3 RS.

Fairchild Gardens Botanical Park was chosen due to the fabulous drive along Old Cutler Road, with gorgeous tree lined canopies and plenty of parking and restrooms. For this event, they provided t-shirts, snacks, adult beverages and facility tours.

advance team, scoring the quiz and whatever else needed to be done. Least I forget our great photographer, George Plucienkowski, who provided all these great pics. DO YOU FEEL LUCKY? If so, stay tuned for another rally in 2024. Ana Hildebrand at Parkhaus1 waiting to deal rally cards

The other mystery component was that rally participants would be given a yellow slip with either an address or a set of turn-by-turn instructions to get to the next stop. The teams were instructed to depart to find the next location, pick up the next poker card, enjoy the facility for 30 minutes and then pick up the next yellow slip for the next location. Upon arrival, the plan was to have the teams greeted by GCR volunteers and given instructions on what to do and how to proceed next. At each stop the host was recognized with a very nice commemorative trophy as a thank you for their participation and support. At the last stop, the final poker card was drawn by each team and the winning hand was presented by Mario and Lissette Gonzalez who had won a GCR poker rally several years ago. The mystery quiz was challenging, and the teams had a limited amount of time at the final stop to turn in their quiz. When the mystery quizzes were scored and totaled, the winning team was Bobby and Vanessa Varela. Judging from the folks we talked with throughout the day, everyone loved the mystery at each stop and enjoyed the challenge of getting there to find the right answers. We in turn, would like to again thank our hosts and just as importantly our GCR volunteers who helped with registration, serving on the

Porsche - More Than Just A Car or Hobby Alec Druth submitted this photo of his 2004 Boxster S and his dad’s 1999 996. From early childhood, Alec’s dad Steven instilled in him a love for Porsche, not only as a brand, but as a car and a lifestyle of fun with a car. To the Druth family, Porsches are more than just cars or hobbies. They are a connection to a community that loves and values the same ideas, raw thrills and the pinnacle of driving. Growing up, Alec’s dad owned a few different 911’s (930 Turbo and a few different 996’s), and met his mom Tina, when he put a deposit on his first Boxster. A few years ago, Alec got the opportunity to get his first Porsche, and everything aligned in the right way to get this amazing 2004 Boxster S. Alec said, “The Boxster was responsible for me being on this planet, so it was fitting to have this be my first entrance into the Porsche life.” The other Porsche in this photo is his dad’s 1999 996. The Druth family lived in NYC for about eight years and during that time they no longer had a need for a fun car. Fast forward a few years, and separate unconnected relocations of Alec and his parents to Florida, Steven bought a Z4. When Steven drove Alec’s Boxster, he remembered the thrill of a Porsche and needed one again. Out of chance, a friend in Massachusetts recommended this 996 that was being sold by an acquaintance. A few days later, Steven got on a plane, picked up the car and had a fun road trip back down to Florida. Alec’s Boxster is currently at 130,000 miles and he has been learning a lot about the joys of maintaining a car of this caliber. Alec does a lot of general maintenance himself, which has been a blast for him, but it also has given him a more thorough knowledge of how and why these cars react the way they do when you whip them around. Alec took this photo with a Nikon D500. Have a cool picture of your Porsche? Then submit it with a description and short story to gcr.photofinish@gmail.com
