I offer you my company’s full service
TV & Video production services at a significantly discounted rate. You see, it really is amazing to be a member of a very unique group of men and women who appreciate performance, style and the thrill of managing a sophisticated piece of machinery traveling at the ragged edge on a beautiful road somewhere in the world! Moreover, to the uninitiated, words do not communicate the feeling you get when the outline of the oncoming car becomes obvious, lights flash, heads nod as a brother or sister go screaming past. I
have had the distinct pleasure of enjoying thousands of those sweet moments as the very proud owner of a 1969, 912 ... that I purchased (as a very young guy) in 1970! Yes, I owned my 912 for over 46 years and YES, if that car could talk ... Through many years of SCCA/IMSA racing and thrashing my street 912 in every conceivable manner my love for our pedigree has only grown stronger and deeper. I appreciate excellence, performance and balls-to-the-wall fun, which is one of the reasons I have been
involved in a multi-year complete restoration of the 912 with the great folks at Foreign Affairs Motorsport. If you have any TV or video needs, please contact me to discuss your project. My company can produce anything from a 30 second commercial to a Web promotion to a full-blown two-hour documentary. We have our own independent studio in Lake Worth, Florida with a soundstage and complete green screen chroma-key facility that enables live studio programs we can broadcast anywhere in the world.
Bottom Line: My team and I promise you the same performance that we owners expect from our personal Poorsh ... oops, I mean from our beloved PORSCHE!!

Hello, everyone! We made it through another summer month here in Florida. Congrats to all! Although there weren’t many events in July, they were significant for their importance to the club. The Porsche Parade went off without a hitch from July 9-15 in beautiful Spokane, Washington. As many of you know, Parade is the annual national convention for Porsche Club of America. Club members showed up from all over the U.S. and Canada to participate in a week of fun-filled events and to socialize with other members. Although I didn’t get to attend this event, I heard it was fantastic from those who did attend. At the end of the month we all had a chance to go to the
Larry Wilson Collection tour. What an amazing collection of cars! Please try to attend next year if you were not able to attend this year. You won’t be disappointed. My personal thanks to everyone that helped to put on the July events. I can’t say it enough, GCR would not be what it is without you. August is that slow time of the summer. Never fear, however, on August 19-20, we have a drive and dine to Conchy Joe’s in Jensen Beach, Florida. Great food and good times for all! Many members are staying the night in the area to get the most out of this event. As usual, Porsches & Pancakes is on the first Saturday of the month. Please take
some time to join other Porsche fans and talk about your favorite subjects: your car and Porsche! Also, we have our Thursday Socials on the third Thursday of every month where you can do the same thing! Please check your emails and the calendar on our website for updated times and locations. I encourage all of you to reach out to new members at each of these functions and make them feel welcome! Hope to see you all soon! Drive smart and safe!

Editor’s Notes How can we already be in the last month of summer? It seems that as we age and gain wisdom, time seems to accelerate. The one life lesson we should learn is to enjoy every second of life because it does speed by. Maybe I am saying this because I have four grandchildren in college; wasn’t I just teaching my boys how to play soccer and drive? I hope you have been enjoying your summer months. As you and your family make those special trips and memories in your Porsche be sure to share your adventures with the members by writing an article and sending photos. Going to press as Parade was proceeding we do not have the competition results for the newsleter contest but will have them by the next issue. I did find out that our cover was one of six finalist. Out of all the PCA regions, that is an accomplishment. More details to follow next month.
Roger Fabel- Editor
Check out the very special car on our cover owned by GCR member David Cleary. This is the second time his Porsche GT3 RS that was converted to a one of a kind street legal RSR has made our cover. David took first in class at the Werks Reunion this year held at Amelia Island. Congratulations David. Being an inaugural event, slots sold out quickly and those that attended were amazed with the sight of over 700 Porsches. Don’t miss the event next year when you attend the Amelia Island Concourse De Elegance. I hope you enjoy the photographs in this issue and on our web site. The weather was perfect and the Porsches were displayed on a golf course. Special thanks to Tom Provasi, Werks Reunion Chair, PCA National, and all of the PCA volunteers that helped to make this first event such a success.

Please note we have updated the Drivers Education schedule for the 2017 season along with a special “First Timers DE Event”. If you have experience in Autocrossing your car and are ready to try the track, this may be the event for you. We do not race but teach you how to control your car on a track with a PCA instructor. We stress safety and learning at your pace. Once you have learned skills from Autocross and Drivers Education you will gain more enjoyment from your Porsche and be safer on the highway when you encounter problems. Next month we will publish the slate of members running for a board position along with their bios. The best way to enjoy PCA is to get involved. Come to the next event and find out about all of the activities we offer. Enjoy the drive.

PCA Thursday Night Social New Miami Location
Our New location in Brickell-Miami for PCA Social Thursdays was a total success this past Thursday!!! In the middle of all high-rise buildings and the heart of a growing city, Casa de Montecristo by Prime Cigar & Whisky Bar hosted us, and welcomed the PCA Members to their home. It was 6:00 P.M. when members started to show up, complimentary parking was provided for our PCA members only in front of the building. It was definitely the perfect combination for the ones that love cigars, whiskey, great people, and lovely Porsche’s. Feedback from some members. “I always enjoy going there and last night was special, joined other 911 Addicts.” Jose A. Suarez “Awesome it was a great time” Jason Laffrey See you soon at our next PCA Social Thursday!!!!!!

Werks Reunion Amelia Island: First time's a charm Article by Rob Sass After just three years in Monterey, Porsche Club of America’s Werks Reunion has become a must-attend event for club members and Porsche enthusiasts during Monterey Car Week. In response to demand to replicate the show on the East Coast, PCA has taken its winning formula to Amelia Island, Florida. On Friday March 10, 2017, Werks Reunion featured over 670 Porsche vehicles, 160 of which appeared in judged classes. Porsches came from 32 states plus Puerto Rico to celebrate the Porsche marque as
Photos by Damon Lowney well as the 20th anniversary of the popular Boxster two-seater sports car. Porsche Cars of North America and the Ingram Collection brought over 20 display cars, while Pirelli Tires made free espresso for attendees at their tent. “Registrations officially sold out over two weeks prior to the event,” said Vu Nguyen, PCA’s Executive Director. “Even though spaces in the judged classes and the corral were sold out, Porsche fans still wanted to come and support the event. The general event parking was filled with

Porsches as well. Our goal was to take what we’ve learned in Monterey and bring this great event to the East Coast to allow club members and Porsche fans on the other side of the country to participate,” said Nguyen. Attendance was free for spectators. Awards were given to winners in 15 different classes, plus eight corporate awards. Attendance was free. Presenting sponsors were Pirelli, Porsche Cars of North America, and Hollywood Wheels Auctions, which held a sale in conjunction with Werks Reunion.

Autocross Update
by Steve Kidd, Autocross Chair As many of you know, GCR had a very successful “first half” autocross season. Event 4 was rescheduled from 6/10 to 6/17 because our auto cross site was flooded for several days before the event with a possibility of more rain. Luckily weather on June 17 proved to be good and everyone got 8 dry runs. Event 4 proved to be another challenging course, with an assortment of sections for both the fast cars (think turbos and late model high horse power cars) and momentum cars (such as Miatas and 944’s). Check out the results on the GCR website under the AX tab and see how close the competition really was! As most of the regulars know, we don’t schedule AutoX events in July or August as it’s just too hot and usually a high prospect of rain. As we move toward cooler months, GCR will pick up the pace with lots of AX action, not only GCR events, but also events run in conjunction with other PCA regions and events hosted by Zone 12. The first of our “fall” events will again be at Sebring in conjunction with a DE held the same weekend. This event offers an AutoX school in the morning and a competition event in the afternoon. We do a hard break around noon to let anyone who wants to do a tour of the Sebring Racetrack participate with several low speed touring laps around the track….no helmet, passengers welcome and a small donation which goes to an established charity. Also the AutoX School is not to be missed for those thinking of learning more about Autocrossing. This school is limited to 10 beginner students and offers a great way to learn from the pro’s, in a noncompetitive environment, at a fraction of what many other schools would charge. While all of our autocrosses offer patient & experienced instructors, the school is geared toward building a solid foundation of event structure, principles of shaving seconds off your time, and terminology/lingo/expectations. So come on out and join the fun on Sept. 16 at Sebring…While the drive is a little further than BB&T (depending on where you live)….you will be rewarded by more runs than usual….possibly 16-20… at a lower cost. Here’s our proposed schedule for the second part of 2017, which is subject to change: Saturday Sept. 16 at the “concrete strip” in Sebring …Registration is open now on club registration… also prior to the AutoX, there will be a autoX mini-school from 9:00-11:00 This will be geared toward 1st timers, limited to 10 students and has a separate registration Saturday October 14th at BB&T Center in Sunrise. Usually one of best attended events…Register early to make sure you secure one of the 75 spots. Sunday November 12th at BB&T Center in Sunrise. Our season finale and annual PCA Ladies go free day (must drive a Porsche and be a PCA member or associate member to go free) Saturday October 28th Zone 12 AutoX Zone challenge in conjunction with the Oktoberfast club race 2017 at Daytona. This will be a zone challenge event run at the Daytona kart track. Registration is open now on club registration….(find by date or key word Oktoberfast….it’s under Zone 12 events) We anticipate trophies for class winners at this event so hoping Gold Coast Region participants will be well represented in the winner’s circle. News, reminders and 2017 updates: • Everyone is now required to pre register for any AutoX on Clubregistration.net… Please consult the GCR or Zone 12 website and Kassette for all Autocross photos & results. • Porsche classes are loosely based on the PCR’s for medium size regions, with minor regional adjustments. The major difference will be the addition of SN (stock car/ novice driver) for men and ladies. These classes are strictly for newcomers only. Please see Steve for any car class questions or if you wish to run as a novice. We reserve the right to make additional class/rule changes as needed. • Our 2017 series is planned to be 7 events. To be eligible for an end of the year award, competitors must run in at least 4 events in the same class. Each competitor’s top 4 finishes will be calculated and an end of the year class champion and possibly runner-up (depending on class size) will be chosen. In case of a tie, additional events will be added until the tie is broken. Year-end class champion awards will be presented. • Cheers! Hope to see you at one of our late season Autocrosses

Tech Corner :
My Right Seat Coach Article by Pedro P. Bonilla, Tech Editor
My Dad had been a successful Gentleman Racer in his younger days and that’s why I’m passionate about racing as well. I remember riding with him to some of his races. Back then you drove your car to and from the track! I was awed by, and still remember looking at, the speedo in his car which had a max speed indication of 300 KPH. His car of choice at that time was a 1958 Mercedes Benz 300SL Roadster. He had traded in his 1954 300 SL Gullwing for the Roadster because the latter was lighter.
With his help, I got into karting at a very young age and Dad and I had a lot of fun tinkering with what was then a new fad. We modified and greatly improved the brakes, the clutch, the engine and tweaked it after every race with what we had just learned. Just before every race we would have a strategic meeting and after the race a debriefing, going over my best and worst moments of the race. I got to be pretty good at it, eventually winning two consecutive National Championships in the DR. Dad, as an engineer, studied the intricacies of 2 cycle expansion chambers and got so immersed in it that he designed and hand-made a different one for my kart for each track! But as good as that was, the times I spent together with my Dad in a car, or better

yet, in a racecar were the best. He taught me how to drive a stick by age 10. I couldn’t reach the pedals, so he built wooden extensions for me. Every time there was a chance, he would let me take the wheel and I was quite experienced by age 12. We would go drive in abandoned dirt roads where he taught me to drift the car into the turns mainly using the handbrake since our ride was a very underpowered DKW 3=6 with a 2-cycle, 3 cylinder engine probably making 50 HP. One Saturday morning (it must have been 5:00 AM) he came into my room, woke me up and told me to quickly pack for three days and that I was coming with him. I later learned that the previous evening his best friend and pilot of their dedicated rally car (a 1965 Alfa Romeo Giulia ti) had been admitted to the emergency room and could not participate in the 2-day Rally of the Mountain III (Rally de la Montaña III) for which they had worked so hard prepping the car and doing all of the route calculations, etc. I got in the car with him as we headed down to the starting point of the race. He was explaining to me how the tandem Heuer stopwatches and the Alpina hand-cranked calculator that were bolted on the dash worked. All the info was just going over my head.

Shortly after 8:00 AM we took the green flag and off we were! Within the first 5 kilometers I had managed to get us lost. My Dad stopped the car and got out. He paced for a few seconds and commanded: “Move over, you’re driving!” All I could say was “Yes Sir!”. With his total control of the navigation we quickly got back on-track and on-time without having lost any points. It was a tough 2-day event crossing the high sierras of the Dominican Republic where we were living at the time. Dad was the copilot now so he had his time/ distance/ speed calculations but he was also coaching/ instructing me as well. The first day we finished a respective fifth overall but still close to 2nd, 3rd and 4th places in penalty points. Before going to bed I remember that he sat down with me for over an hour and we had a debrief just as in our karting days. The next morning we took the green with much more confidence and finished the day 2nd overall giving us the 3rd place of the event due to the combined results of both days. At the awards ceremony we were called to the podium and just before the 3rd place trophy was handed to us there was a commotion and everything stopped. We got off the podium and about 30 minutes later the Chief Steward announced that there had been a disqualification and it was car number 7 driven by Pedro Bonilla and co-piloted by Pedro Bonilla Jr. It was
further explained that the fourth place car had protested. The protest was declared valid. They pointed out that according to the rules, any Rally pilot was required to have valid driver’s license and at the time I was about to turn 15 so I didn’t even have a learner’s permit. The third place points and trophy were being stripped from us. But then, something incredible happened. Most of the other 192 participants (there had been 100 cars) got up and started chanting our names. Many were upset at the now official 3rd place finishers telling them that “the kid” had beat them all and that they shouldn’t be sore losers. In the end the organizers held the awards ceremony again and gave us the 3rd place trophies, but gave the points to the 4th place finishers. That Rally has been one of the most memorable events of my life. I was mostly into dirt bikes after that and then with college and later raising a young family most of my 4-wheel racing came to a halt for a while, although I had managed to keep a Porsche in my garage continually since my college days. When Mondays were literally too painful due to the off-roading on the weekends, I gave up the bikes and started
Autocrossing and DE’ing my ’98 Boxster. That felt much better! My Dad passed away 15 years ago but I still feel him sitting and instructing me from the right seat (even when there is no right seat) and I can swear than in more than one occasion he has physically intervened to save my behind when MB sole entry at 1960 12 Hours of Sebring I’ve done something stupid at the track.
