President’s Corner Steve Kidd - President
January was a very active month for Gold Coast Region. The 1st weekend offered our assortment of Porsche and Pancakes socials ...and thanks again to our breakfast coordinators. January is the best time to enjoy your Porsche....if you live in South Florida. The traditional January tour to the Florida Keys is one of our 1st major events every year. For 2020 it got even bigger and better as over 100 Porsches and 200+ members made the drive from one of 3 meeting points on the “mainland’ and headed to the Islamorada Fish House. For those that need a geography refresher, the Florida Keys is an archipelago of islands connecting mainland Florida (think Miami) to Key West....the southernmost point in the United States. US 1 is the only road from south Miami all the way to Key West over a series of bridges with fabulous water views on both sides. As planned, all participants arrived between 11:30-noon and found seating in a beautiful open air area overlooking the water and enjoyed great seafood. A BIG thanks to the organizers, points of contacts, safety teams, and tour leaders / sweeps. Also in January...you know those raffles that PCA has several times a year where you buy $50.00 tickets in hopes of winning a new Porsche? Well in happened again for a lucky Gold Coast couple.. This time the lucky winners were Norm and Susan of Boca Raton, who have their choice of either a Boxster T or Cayman T. Now here is how it works....PCA National likes to “surprise “ the winner by showing up at the winner’s home or business with a similar car, big sign, balloons and ribbon. PCA National tries to enlist the help of the winner’s family members and a few regional officials (in this case Dottie and I) and show up unannounced for a grand presentation. The car presented is a like model to the one the winner can select with their choice of color and options. As
the plot unfolded, Vu from the National office asked us to gather up the sign, balloons and ribbon, while he attempted to work some magic to surprise the winners. The morning of the presentation Vu and Damon (one of PCA’s official photographers) flew down to South Florida and we all met at Champion Porsche who was kind enough to lend us a white Cayman for the presentation. As we found out soon, the winners lived in a gated community with extensive security and Vu had to work his real charm to get us in. Lucky Norm and Susan were home and the presentation was a complete surprise! In later conversations we learned Norm and Susan had been looking at Boxsters the day before and were just about ready to finalize their selection when this good fortune was presented. You will probably read more in Panorama or E-Brake news... but again congratulations to Gold Coast Region’s very own Norm and Susan on their new Porsche. The final few days of January and the 1st weekend of February brought us the 27th running of the 48 Hours at Sebring Club Race. For those of you that have not attended, this is a must do bucket list activity. For starters, it’s the biggest and best run Club Race in all of PCA, spanning 4 days of Porsche-only racing, with an advanced solo and autoX added to the mix. The 48, as it is known by most folks, has been co-sponsored by Gold Coast and Sun Coast regions since the inception and is one of the longest running multi-region events within PCA. There most likely will be a future Kassette devoted to Club Race, however, I hope this small “trailer” will get you psyched for what is to come at next years club race. One of the best ways to learn more about this event and Club racing in general is to visit the website www.48hoursatsebring.com. In addition to 4 days of track activity there are
several banquets and more socializing than you can imagine. There are track tours and auctions to raise money for Ronald McDonald House and the Boy Scouts. To make this more legendary is the fact that the entire event is handled by volunteers. A staff of 30 plus committee members each handle a specific function,,,,and each committee member is very good at what they do. Additionally, several hundred volunteers that work specific shifts at different jobs such as helping on grid, in tech or at a corner assisting professional corner workers. Each volunteer gets a t-shirt and lunch during the days they work, but more importantly is a sense of being part of a really great event. Plan on volunteering next year if you have never tried it. You can work 1 day or multiple days and sign up to volunteer on the Club Race website. Our thanks to all the committee members and coordinators who start working on this Club Race in September. Some spend a whole week at Sebring not only doing their own specialized job but also helping with the logistics, material handling and set up/tear down that requires a huge number of man hours. Also as a reminder, we are still looking for a Community Service Project...not to be confused with our charity efforts such as Joe DiMaggio Hospital. At Parade 2019, this is one of the most distinguished awards and focus seems to be more on helping those in need directly rather than collecting cash donations.... Lots of rewarding sweat equity. Got an idea in mind.?...Give Steve a call...954 946-3196...Also we’re still looking for a new AutoX site. Not just a suggestion... someone with an “in” or knows the decision maker at the property. Looks like BBT may not be back for 2020 so any help will be appreciated. See you at an event soon.........Steve

Editor’s Notes W
e are off to a great start this year with our PCA club activities. The 27th annual 48 Hours at Sebring club race was a great success. What does that mean you might say? Well the event was well attended by racers, vendors, and volunteer workers. Many of the new sponsors were very impressed and are signed up to support the 2021 event. The same response was voiced by new volunteers, “When can I sign up for next year?”. One of our new volunteers wrote an article about his experience working two of the corners with professional corner workers that work famous races around the world. His article will be placed on the 48 Hour at Sebring web site along with photos from this years race.

The cover this month was taken at our 3rd Annual Carlin Park picnic. The event is located near the beach in Jupiter and is a great time to display our Porsches, socialize with our PCA family and enjoy some fantastic BBQ. The attendance continues to grow so a larger area in the park will be in the 2021 planning. Speaking of Gold Coast social, check out the new flyers in this issue for the month of April. Sign up now to reserve your spot. If it seems like we are doing more events than we did several years ago you are correct. Our membership continues to grow as you can see the long list of new members on the previous page and to meet the demand we have grown the social team to help support more events for the increasing membership. Being a
technical person, I always enjoy tech sessions. Just below my notes you will see a flyer for our next tech session, tour, and lunch. I will see you there. We know that new members may be overwhelmed with all of the activities that PCA offers. To help understand the club we are planning a new member orientation to help you learn what the club offers and how to get involved. We all started in the same place so let us help you get started on your journey to maximize your Porsche experience. Some of you will be helping others with the same questions years down the road. We are all volunteers and helping to educate new and old Porsche members is what we do. Check out the new member flyer and join us at Tradewinds Park for a great event. See you at the park, Roger

WOW! About sums up how we feel about this year’s Carlin Park Car Show and Barbecue Picnic. While the previous two Carlin Park Car Show events were well attended, this year’s show surpassed attendance by more than 45 participants to more than 150. Our best estimate puts the number of Porsches in the show at 68 plus three classic Porsches graciously displayed by Gordon and Kate of 9 Automotion. They brought a pristine 1965 911, a ‘70s tribute 916, and an awesome 914 powered by a 3 liter boxer engine. For the third year in a row, the weather cooperated and provided the crowd with warm ocean breezes and ample sunshine. It was perfect. Southern Pig once again did

an outstanding job of serving their famous pulled pork, baby back ribs, and the best southern cornbread in the south. Members were also entertained by a handmade corn-hole game that had two large Porsche Emblems painted on their faces to help guide the way into the holes. Special thanks to our member Robert Polasek for bringing it to this event for everyone to enjoy. Peter was on hand again this year to tabulate the votes of this year’s People’s Choice Awards, and to hand out the awards. The winners this year are posted on page 17. Congratulatios to all of the entrants who displayed their Porsches. Nancy, Linda, and Lorena cheerfully

welcomed each and every member who attended and were happy to present the fantastic raffle prizes including a 50/50 raffle grand prize was won by Therese. Joe and Anita Wexler also donated two giveaways; a Porsche car cover and tickets to Artigras. It was amazing to see how many members sacrificed their Sunday morning and arrived early to help set up this event. Our sincerest thanks. A special thank you to everyone who attended, we truly cherish these times we spend together with good friends. As with everything we do, it is important to note that it is because of the volunteer spirit of our Gold Coast family that we are all able to have these events.

AUTOCROSS UPDATE
Steve Kidd, Autocross Chair
The big news for February was our Club Race AutoX
challenge, held in conjunction with the 48 Hours at Sebring Club race Jan. 29-Feb. 2. This is always one of the most competitive events and it brings out autocrossers from all over Florida and beyond to vie for bragging rights and great trophies. This year was particularly challenging because we had rain, puddles and extremely slick skid pad and a revised course design. For those of you that have run the skid pad when dry, try to imagine that portion of the course wet....no very wet....Despite the bad weather in the morning everyone still got 4 runs, followed by a lunch break and/or track tour on the Sebring race track. Competitors were treated to 4 more runs in the afternoon, and while not dry, the rain had lifted and times were quite a bit quicker. FTD went to Cory Corona of Suncoast region. For complete results check the GCR website or the 48hours at Sebring club race website. We hope to have some Autox pictures in the newsletter and on the website. AutoX site...we need a BIG parking lot, air strip or similar piece of pavement in the Tri-County area to hold our AutoX events. In the past we have used shopping center lots, sporting and gaming venues and school/government parking facilities. We most recently used the BBT Center parking lot which was great...big, centrally located and reasonably priced. A repaving project put an end to that lot ...hopefully temporary, but it very well could be permanent. What we need is an “in” someone that has a connection to a suitable property and can help us get our foot in the door. Do you know of a site?...are you the person with the “in”? Please call me at 954 946-3196 if you can help out finding a new AX site. In 2019 many of our AX events were at Sebring in conjunction with Club Race or a regional DE. While this has proved doable, members have expressed a preference not to drive so far. Are you that person with the “in”??? Give me a call if you are.

The major difference will be the addition of SN (stock car/novice driver) for men and ladies. These classes are strictly for newcomers only. Please see Steve for any car class questions or if you wish to run as a novice. We reserve the right to make additional class/rule changes as needed. • Our 2020 series is planned to be 5-7 events, depending on site eligibility To be eligible for an end of the year award, competitors must run in over half the events in the same class. Each competitor’s top finishes will be calculated and an end of the year class champion and possibly runner-up (depending on class size) will be chosen. In case of a tie, additional events will be added until the tie is broken. Year-end class champion awards may be presented. • No passengers except for an approved AX instructor driving or in the car instructing. • Questions…..call Steve or Dottie Kidd 954-946-3196 • For 2020 our advise is please register early. As a reward, early registrants will get the best price. However, those registering the last week before the event will see an increase in event registration price. While we typically do not allow on-site registration, if we do, your registration fee will increase to $55.The best advise is to register early, as some events do have caps and we charge a premium fee if you register 1 week or less from the event date.
