FIRST TURN
Peter Olliviere , PresidentThe other day when I was looking for an old picture, I came across a scrapbook with pictures of cars that I previously owned, and I was truly surprised at the list. I was told that you could look at the list and get a good idea of a one’s personality, and if that is the case, have a look at the following list:
72 Trans AM, 92 Volvo 760 Wagon, 96 Volvo 850 Turbo Wagon, 86 Supra, 73 Mercury Montego GT 428 Cobra Jet, Saab 900 Turbo, four Corvairs including a turbo charged Monza Spyder, Superformance GT 40 Replica,
Mercedes AMG E550, Porsche 928, two Porsche 968 Cabriolets, Porsche 981 Boxster, Pontiac Transport Van, 88 Corvette, Volvo S80 Turbo, 72 BMW 530I, two 2006 BMW 7 Series, Datsun 240Z, Ford Taurus Station Wagon, Mercedes Benz E350 Wagon, Toyota Tacoma pickup, five Mazda CX5’s and a Chrysler minivan.
When I looked over this list I was struck by a couple of things. For one, I don’t seem to have much of a love affair with American cars. The Smoky and the Bandit Trans Am and the Corvette seem to be the only American performance cars I was ever into. No Mustangs at all, but Ford is well represented by the Superformance GT40 Replica that I had for several years.
That car stood alone, with a fully built fuel injected 306 CI V8, with the potential of hitting 180 MPH. Ford also breaks through with my 72 Mercury Montego GT powered by a 428 Cobra Jet, built by Motion Performance in Long Island, New York.
Other traits are revealed as you look over the list. Most of the cars I owned were either sports or sporty cars or had the ability to carry cargo. The best combination of that was the Volvo Turbo Wagons with the ability to haul in more ways than one. I look back with a level of pleasure at the different driving experiences that I have had the pleasure to enjoy. Each car was a point in my life with a story attached. Take a moment to check out your list.

KEY STROKES
This month, we are saluting the ladies of the Gold Coast Region with several articles written by and about these special members. Sometimes in a car club, the ladies are overlooked, but not PCA. We have some very hard-working ladies that have helped build the club.
When my wife and I joined the club in 2001, we went to observe an Autocross event to learn more about the club activities. We met Diana Hansen who was helping with the event and was also the Social Chair. She gave us an overview of the club and mentioned that we could attend the region Zonefest in two weeks. At Zonefest, we met PCA members from other regions who discovered that we owned a great Porsche and we had joined a great new family, the PCA.
We became more involved with GCR activities and two years later cohosted the 2003 Porsche Parade in Tampa with Suncoast Region. At Parade, we were asked to help with both Rennsport events at Daytona. Two years later we were asked to be on the tech team at the 50th anniversary Porsche Parade in Hersey, PA. We were also enjoying many of the GCR activities and zone 12 events.
My wife worked with many of the GCR social events and I was asked to join the leadership. Much of our enjoyable PCA experiences happened because a special GCR lady took time to help us get involved in PCA.
Roger Fabel, Editor RogerWhile selecting gifts to present to our chairs, directors and officers at the GCR Awards Banquet I decided that the wives worked as hard if not harder than their husbands who were receiving the thank you gifts. My solution was to present a Presidents award to each of the wives of chairs, directors and officers. Each of the wives was given a hand engraved body fragrance set from Lady Primrose.
We are very appreciative of the time and dedication the ladies provide to the region. The articles were challenging and although we could not list all of your names, we thank you all for your contributions. Happy Mother’s Day.

Unveiling Demographic Shifts in PCA Gold Coast Region
Ian Gerada , Membership ChairThe latest age analysis of PCA Gold Coast Region members unveils intriguing insights into the evolving demographics of our community. Across Miami-Dade, Broward and Palm Beach counties, the data paints a dynamic picture of our membership base, revealing trends that could shape our future endeavors.
In Miami-Dade County, where 324 members were analyzed, the average age stands at approximately 43 years. Broward and Palm Beach counties present a slightly older average age, hovering around 45 years. However, the median ages in Broward (48 years) and Palm Beach (47 years) indicate a mature yet diverse membership spectrum.
What is driving this shift? Several factors could be at play. First, the
influx of younger members in the past year suggests a targeted approach to attract a more diverse demographic. Enhanced outreach efforts, particularly through social media and community engagement initiatives, seem to have resonated with younger enthusiasts, lowering the overall average age significantly.
Moreover, improvements in data collection and processing might have contributed to a more accurate representation of our membership demographics. By rectifying anomalies and errors, we ensure a clearer understanding of our community makeup.
The expansion of events and tailored offerings also plays a pivotal role. By diversifying our activities and aligning them with the interests of younger

generations, we create opportunities for greater inclusivity and engagement. This strategic evolution not only enriches our community but also fosters a dynamic environment for Porsche enthusiasts of all ages.
As we embrace this demographic shift, it’s essential to remain agile and responsive to the evolving needs and preferences of our members. By leveraging insights from our age analysis, we can chart a course that celebrates our rich heritage while embracing the excitement of the road ahead. Together, we’ll continue to drive the passion for Porsche across the Gold Coast Region and beyond.
Safe Driving.
IanPUMPS, PEARLS AND PURSES... IN PORSCHES
Story by Alicia Laya, Staff WriterMother’s Day is a very special day. It is a day of celebrations to honor the remarkable ladies in our lives for their dedication to their families and their boundless passion and nurturing; a testimony of their strength and love.
The stories in this May issue celebrate and recognize all the Gold Coast Porsche-loving ladies, showcasing an ensemble of ladies who not only navigate life’s curves with their families and careers but also with their cars, with a little Porsche panache.
The PCA Gold Coast Region ladies are more than just Porsche drivers; they’re aficionados, deeply involved with their cars, matching the pride and zest of their male counterparts at every turn of the wheel.
For those of you who know Peggy Raben, a stalwart of the Gold Coast Region since 2007, you’ve probably heard about Peggy and her husband Paul’s amazing road adventures across the country in their 356C and 996. They love sharing their road trip
sagas, especially the stories of meeting some great folks from all over the country and the world. Paul writes about these road adventures in “The FOGLight”, a Porsche 356 Florida Owner’s Group newsletter. Peggy occasionally contributes as a writer for The FOGLight newsletter and has her own column which is titled “Thoughts from the Passenger’s seat,” mostly directed to the women of the FOG. Hopefully, she says, one that offers tips and humor from a woman’s point of view on the many road trips in their 356C. She is also very active in the 356 Florida Owner’s Group and serves as the treasurer.
Porsche enthusiast, gifted her a 1987 Targa, sparking her lifelong love affair with its handling and performance.
Raised in New Jersey, Peggy’s infatuation for cars dates to when she was a young girl, influenced by her dad, a skilled mechanic who had his three daughters tinkering in his shop and opening the world of car engines to them. Peggy shared that she always had a love for just being around cars. Peggy’s journey with Porsche began when her husband, Paul, also a
Peggy says that the thrill lies in the speed and precision as evidenced in all their cars, a threefold collection starting with their Silver 1964 356C, a Pacific Mist Blue 1986 930 and a Seal Grey 2002 996TT.
Thanks to a fun and robust retirement, Peggy and her husband Paul have the luxury of time now to do some spectacular traveling exploits driving from the high to low deserts to national parks. They especially love camping trips, even though Peggy said, “They are dwarfed by the gigantic RV’s parked beside them, however, their 356 attracts all the attention at all the campgrounds.” Peggy added, that although most of the campgrounds have hot showers and real toilets, they still need that occasional visit to a hotel for a soft bed and a TV in between national parks or a quick stopover. Their 996 packs quite a bit of camping gear she added and has the most safety on these road trips.
This spirited grandmother of 5 grandkids has competed in several PCA Gold Coast Region autocrosses throughout the years and has attained several accolades to prove it. She was a regular at the autocrosses with Steve and Dottie Kidd and boasts several trophies, awards and a championship jacket. Although Peggy hasn’t autocrossed in a few years, she expects to be back on the course soon.
While their road adventures are indeed exhilarating, back home Peggy finds refuge doing volunteer work helping women use spirituality to get sober from drugs and alcohol.
To keep up with such a busy life, Peggy actively stays in shape, pursuing Pilates, biking and gardening.
Althea Pemsel wasn’t even looking to buy a Porsche. When Althea walked into the Broward Porsche dealership, she instantly gravitated to a beautiful Sapphire Blue Bentley with cognac interior. But after a test drive, the Bentley just wasn’t a fit. She continued to look at some other cars, but still she had no interest in making a purchase. She then test drove a Panamera. Ahh, now this one was a fit, with its sleek style, long lines and loads of comfort. She forged ahead and offered her best price. However, the dealer stood audaciously firm on his price. Althea thanked him and walked away.
But time was on Althea’s side! Two months later she got a call from the dealership. The dealer rep confessed everyone that has test driven the car has loved it, but nobody has bought it! “Clearly this car was meant for you Althea,” he exclaimed. “Come pick up your car.” They settled on a mutual price and terms and the Panamera 2012 in Yachting Blue came home with Althea. The rest is history or herstory.
Althea, or Dee as her friends and family call her, has had a lot of experience with European cars in the past. She lived in Germany for nearly 20 years. She remembered driving on the autobahn with all these different European cars she once owned, but once she finally owned a Porsche, now this was the ultimate Fahrvergnugen, she said, which means “driving pleasure!”.
A native Michigander with a General Motors family background is what fueled Althea’s love of cars but even way before then, she always had a love for cars, but proudly shared that Porsche helped her love how cars perform.
Althea recalled that since becoming a member in 2017, Driver’s Ed has become one of her favorite Porsche activities. Participating in her first Driver’s Ed and nearly every subsequent Driver’s Ed thereafter are some of her most inspiring moments of owning a Porsche.
She loves learning to find her drive lines and hitting the apexes. She said, “It is such a wonderful experience.” Althea has now accomplished an intermediate level driver status.
Althea has also participated in the autocross at the Palm Beach International Speedway with her Panamera. She was shown how the power of the Panamera can perform in an autocross, just like a sports car.
Althea’s Boxster is her daily driver, which she shared, clearly matches her driving style and best works for driving the city streets and freeways. “The response, smooth handling, how it speeds up and idles down quickly, it’s great, after all, I live in South Florida,” she said.
She is an accomplished career woman, working as a Procurement Officer for many years now.
Professionally, Althea thrives on teaching, presenting and doing lectures. Leisurely, she looks forward to attending as many cars shows as she can, like the Concours and the annual Porsche Parade.
When fitness and play time calls, it’s about going on long, scenic walks but playing volleyball is her favorite sport.

Christine Dali`s Cayman in Delaware
Her name was Lola. No, not the showgirl in Barry Manilow’s Copacabana song. Lola was the name of Christine Dali’s first Porsche car.
Her love of Porsches started in 2006, when her husband Sam bought his first Porsche and they both became PCA Club of Delaware members. Throughout the next eight years, Christine’s husband Sam held several positions on the PCA Delaware Board, as an officer, treasurer, vice president and president.
Once their children were getting their driver’s licenses, she gave them her Jeep Liberty and she bought her first Cayman. A 2008 Cayman with Basalt Black exterior and a sand beige interior.
Her delight in Cayman models continued and she purchased her second Porsche, a 2015 Cayman, with Agate Gray exterior and a dark gray interior. “This 2015 Cayman had a wider body, a little more horsepower and just had a different presence,” she said.
A few years passed and she soon realized that her 2015 Cayman was now out of warranty, reaching the 50,000-mile mark and was going to need some work. An SUV was calling for Christine and about a year ago,
she welcomed her third Porsche, a 2022 Macan S in Gentian Blue with pebble gray interior. She shared that the Macan has the most luxurious features with full leather, folding mirrors and the fancy door lights.
Chris, as she prefers to be called, was born in Pennsylvania but lived most of her adult life in Delaware. She claims all her Porsches have been daily drivers, even in the Delaware snow. She always had winter tires, so she was able to drive her Porsches yearround up north. Both her adult children still reside in Delaware with her grandbaby, Miss Sloane a precocious 6-month-old.
Over the years, Chris and her husband have been able to attend several Driver’s Ed specials at the New Jersey Motor Sports Raceway. At these Driver’s Ed events, they both drove the autocross and the racetrack with various vehicles. Chris said she loves both her Caymans. They are true sports
cars and they’re great at handling the curves and turns. But she loves her Macan S too, with all its power and the speed.
She shared that on a recent trip to visit her family in Delaware, she had no choice but to rent a car, a Nissan Altima. “It was bad and cheap inside, handled awful and had zero pickup.” It made her really appreciate her Macan so much more.
“Every Porsche she owned has its own appeal,” Chris said. Her 2008 was her favorite, because undeniably it was her first Porsche, which she named Lola. No big screen, but clean lines, beautiful color and when she washed it, the car sparkled like a diamond, she said.
Chris has accumulated 17 years of experience in the banking industry and 14 years as a real estate agent. In her free time, she enjoys knitting, crocheting and sewing. For outdoor fun, Chris and Sam share a passion for cycling, enjoying both road and mountain biking.
She ended on whimsical note and said, if she should win the lottery; her fantasy car would be the GT4 RS in dark green with a saddle interior. “Oh, to dream,” Chris said.
CAUTION, CURVES AHEAD…
Women and Their Porsches Throughout the Years…
Story by Alicia Laya, Staff WriterThe year was 1949. Her name was Jolantha Tschudi. She was the first female customer of the Porsche brand and purchased a 356 Cabriolet in dark blue.
A pioneer Swiss amateur pilot, she flew gliders and traveled to far away places like Africa and the Orient. Jolantha’s first solo flight was at an impressive young age of 18, which left an indelible mark in the skies and on the ground.
Jolantha’s historic connection with Porsche shows how excellence shined in every facet of a remarkable life, a monument to her taste and free flying spirit.

Bianka
“Bibi” Steinfeldt
Helping minds, bodies and perhaps cars move…
Member Feature by Mark JohnsonAs a young lady, Bianka Steinfeldt was a fan of Pippi Longstocking. Pippi was a fictional nine-year-old Swedish girl with a free-spirited nature. Bianka’s family apparently recognized a few of the same character traits and such as that, they nick-named Bianka “Bibi.” The name stuck. Fast forward a few years and Bibi Steinfeldt is still exhibiting a tremendous amount of exuberance and enthusiasm in every facet of her life.
Professionally, Bianka is a secondgeneration Pilates Master Instructor, with skills and knowledge of TRX training, Integrative Movement and a Reiki Master. She owns the Pilates Hub Studio in Ft. Lauderdale, FL (www.pilateshubstudio.com). As she believes, it is her job to help people improve their health and give them the opportunity to do things that they enjoy. The term rewarding comes to mind, as do peace, tranquility and health. She can say, “I love my job!” That is good fortune, energy healing.
Happy Anniversary Bianka & Frank!
Bianka and her husband, Frank Steinfeldt, have been married 20 years. Their wedding anniversary was April 27th having married in 2004. The Steinfeldts flew to Nashville, TN for their wedding anniversary getaway. They experienced NASCAR driving on the local track, and while it wasn’t a Porsche event, it was exciting, nonetheless. Bianka won the NASCAR experience in an auction that benefitted breast cancer efforts.
The Steinfeldts are European born. Bianka is originally from Vorarlberg, Austria in the city of Hard. Hard is a small town on Lake Constance that is on the water, in the mountains, and surrounded by Germany, Italy and Switzerland. It is a recognized slice of heaven. Frank was born in Germany in the “City of Porsche,” which is
Stuttgart. The opportunity to grow up in central Europe, at the intersection of Porsche automobiles and phenomenal driving, it is no wonder that Porsche vehicles are the key source of transportation for the family.
Her love relationship with Porsche began as a teenager, at about 14 years of age for Bianka. It was a friend with a 911 Turbo who took Bibi for rides in the Alps and on the Autobahn. We should all be so lucky to have had friends like that, in the Alps no less. That experience led to an unquenchable desire to own a Porsche herself. Fast forward two score and four years (44 years) and Bibi acquired her first 911, a brown beauty that became known as “BadAss.” Her license tag could have been read as seen BadAss from a distance, and smiles followed along with the car’s name.
Bianka Steinfeldt: Style, Speed, & Grace combine for this
She also offers a quick story about the selection and source of this first 911. “We started looking for Porsches locally and online. No luck. Then one evening we watched an older commercial on YouTube with a little boy who dreamed of his Porsche. Many years later he got one in Anthracite Brown Metallic. As he drove down through beautiful mountain roads as an adult with two other friends in Porsches, it was like ...
...‘this is me.’ I knew this was my car. About a week later, my husband found the 911 online at a Denver Porsche dealer waiting for me. Never thought a commercial could come true. The dealership was great to work with. We got the car inspected, shipped, and two weeks later my 911 arrived. It was meant to be.”
Frank is the trusted mechanic/ technician who works on two beloved Porsche babies: BadAss, the 2013 911 Carrera in Anthracite Brown Metallic and a 2014 Cayenne Turbo S in Jet Black. Having a loving husband, who loves Porsches, is from Stuttgart and who enjoys working on the family vehicles is a match made in Germany, Heaven in the Alps and Heaven in South Florida.
Bianka and Frank do not have children, and while they were caretakers of two cats they are currently pet free. The two felines were Max and Stupsi. Stupsi loved the 911 and was quite the observer/helper when Frank was working on the car.
The couple currently lives in Pompano Beach, with the Pilates studio not too far away on Oakland Park in Ft. Lauderdale. Porsche entertainment is
a large part of their lives. Bianka loves taking the 911 Carrera to many of the PCA events held by the Gold Coast Region. They participate in the social gatherings but also take to the track for driver education events and to improve handling skills by running the cones with GCR as administered by Steve and Dottie Kidd. Autocrossing is assuredly on their list for 2024.
As time and location allows, Bianka will also participate in a DE with the club. She was introduced to the track experience by a former client, Linda Leo. It was before she owned a Porsche. Linda and husband Roger Boyce are deeply involved in Porsche racing, driving and instructing. Roger took Bianka under his wing and let both Frank and her drive his Boxster S at Sebring. A love for racing and high-speed performance driving was kindled that day.
During the last GCR high-performance driving education event at Homestead last September, Bianka drove with instruction provided by Steve Kidd. They had fun. Bibi Steinfeldt highly recommends that prior to getting on track for a DE that everyone drive in an autocross event or two. That way the driver has a better understanding of acceleration, braking, handling and even understanding the concept of taking a correct line before you get to the higher speeds on a true racetrack.
Bianka and Frank have been members of our Region since 2020. Future Porsche vehicles on her wish list are a 911 Turbo or the 718 Cayman GT4. Those are not the only two, of course as the list is quite long. They are at the top of the list though. For Bianka it was a quick and easy decision for her all-time favorite Porsche, the 1960 356B (T5) Roadster. It is a stylish choice.
Bianka Steinfeldt likes to drive. She also enjoys painting and drawing, dancing, learning and traveling. Her last retreat took place in Barbados, and she is planning a trip to Hawaii. Just a scant eighteen months ago Frank and Bianka visited the Leipzig Porsche Experience. The trip took place in September 2022. The Leipzig Porsche Experience is a Porsche owned track that mimics some of the most famous curves in the motorsport world. Driving corners form Monza to
Monaco and the famous Nürburgring Carousel is quite enlightening. Selecting a modern Porsche to drive, and then follow an instructor on the circuit for a 45-minute period is thrilling. Bianka “had the best time”.
Also at the Leipzig facility, there is the opportunity to switch vehicles and do some off-roading. This was Frank’s turn to shine in a Cayenne. Navigating a six kilometer course nestled in a private nature reserve it was necessary to negotiate fifteen special and unique tests of the vehicle capabilities. Two of these tests encompassed a 100-meter-long water ditch and an extreme ramp with a monster 80% inclined gradient which was quite challenging! After the drives, they took a guided tour of the production facility where Panamera
and Macans are built. The day would not be complete without a three course gourmet meal and drinks. Put the Leipzig Porsche Experience on your European bucket list.
Back in South Florida, Bianka and Frank enjoy all things PCA GCR. These include the many socials, trips to the West Coast of Florida and the Keys, hitting a brewery event or the simple cars and coffee. Although Bianka still wonders, “why do they say coffee – most of the time there is no coffee.” They have taken in a movie with the Club and have participated by volunteering for several events. The REVS Institute was a great trip.
Other Porsche bucket list adventures include driving BadAss to North Carolina for a Tail of the Dragon and mountain road experience, or a trek to California for the canyon carving and roadside vistas along the route.
Health, Peace, Camaraderie and Companionship. Mindfulness! Each have a cherished place with this exceptional member of Porsche Club of America Gold Coast Region. We are fortunate to have Bianka “Bibi” and Frank Steinfeldt with us, sharing their passion and enthusiasm.
Bianka & Frank, A Porsche Match of 20 Years and counting Bianka and BadAss the Anthracite Brown 911 are equally comfortable on road, and at the Homestead tracka Part of It!
The objective of a PCA Rally is to follow a course from point to point, usually on public roads, to the precise detail specified in the rules - it can be competitive or for fun. Competitive Time Speed Distance (TSD) Rallies dictate a certain time schedule for the checkpoints along the way. Gimmick Rallies, also competitive rallies, may include a Gimmick (Poker Rally, regional interest). New to Rallying? Parade is a great time to give it a try!
AROUND THE CONES
Our Most recent AutoX was held on March 24 at the Sebring skid pad. Thanks again to our partners at Suncoast for allowing us to piggyback on their event and use the skid pad on Sunday.
Some may note that most of our AutoX are held on Saturdays, however this weekend Suncoast held a TRSS Event at the skid pad on Saturday. Most of you may wonder, what is TRSS???? TRSS stands for Tire Rack Street Survival. Tire Rack Street Survival is a program for new drivers, mostly teens, that goes way beyond typical high-school driver education programs, which put more focus on classroom theory and parallel parking than controlling a 2-ton vehicle at speed.
The primary emphasis of the Tire Rack Street Survival program is a handson driving experience in real world situations. Teens use their own cars to teach them about the handling limits and how they can control them. The students will become more observant of the traffic situation that they find themselves in. They will learn to look far enough ahead to anticipate unwise actions of other drivers. As the students master the application of physics to drive their cars, they will make fewer unwise driving decisions themselves. What does this have to do with AutoX you may ask? The answer... everything. All the skills one might use at an AutoX, and then some, are taught to teen students in a one-on-one series of car control exercises. Things like emergency braking, obstacle
avoidance, wet surface skid/car control on the wet down section of the slippery part of the skid pad, and of course a favorite.... the slalom course. I served as one of the 30+ coach/ instructors and Dottie helped with the administrative end of the event, keeping everything organized like she does at our AutoX.
Could GCR do this? We would love to if we had a dedicated site, like Suncoast and Space Coast with a track and a place to do the classroom portion.... and GCR would have to round up 20-30 instructors. More on TRSS in coming months.
Regarding March AutoX, weather was sunny, but very windy, claiming another pop-up tent. Seems we go through 2+ of these each year. Everyone got 12 runs on a challenging course that provided something for both the faster cars and the momentum cars. The fastest time of the day went to Michael Drake of the Everglades region driving a well prepared GT3. However, a number of cars with far less HP were within one second of the best time verifying that the course was well matched for all cars. Also, we had several new teen drivers, Tim, Joey and Ian, that learned from some of our seasoned veterans and had a blast. Hopefully more young folks will join in the fun and carry on the AutoX

News, reminders and 2024 updates: Everyone is now required to pre-register for any AutoX on Clubregistration.net… Please consult the GCR website and Kassette for all AutoX photos & results.
Porsche classes are currently based on the PCR’s (Parade Competition Rules), with minor regional adjustments. We understand rule changes may be in the works, but we will continue to use the current AutoX rules throughout the 2024 season. The major difference will be the addition of SN (stock car/novice driver) for men and ladies. These classes are strictly for newcomers, either Porsche or non-Porsche only. Please contact Steve for any car class questions. We reserve the right to make additional class/rule changes as needed.
Our 2024 series is planned to be 5-7 events, depending on site eligibility. To be eligible for an end-of-year award, competitors must run in over half the events in the same class. Each competitor’s top finishes will be calculated and a class champion will be recognized. In the case of a tie, additional events will be added until the tie is broken. Year-end class champion awards may be presented.
No passengers except for an approved AutoX instructor driving or in the car instructing.

Luc - Founder of PermagardThese two Porsches, 25 years apart in age, were both treated with Permagard Automotive. Can likely will not. That’s what Permagard can do for your Porsche. It can take a 1998 Carrera S or a 2023 Carrera S, and make them both shine like Permagard acts as a durable, sacrificial layer that is added on top of your original paint to protect 100% of the paint’s thickness over its lifespan. Permagard’s added layer, combined with 100% of your paint’s thickness, is what gives that Permagard is famous for. Our competitors require wet sanding, compounding, and clay barring before their products can be applied. All of these processes remove layers of your original paint, therefore, reducing its thickness. Using our competitors’ products will result in reduced depth of gloss and protection, as the paint you are trying to protect will get thinner and thinner over time. Choose Permagard if you want to durably protect 100% of your depth of gloss. Call our Permagard Headquarters today at (305) 662-5070, to experience the Permagard your beautiful Porsche!

HELP WANTED
GCR Autocross Chair
After 20 + years of running the AutoX program, we are looking to retire, most likely sometime in 2025. Dottie and I will be looking to train and mentor the next generation of AutoX chair and registrar. Please contact us if you have an interest in being trained and possibly carrying the AutoX torch in the years to come. Over the next few months, I will cover some of the most pressing situations that future AutoX managers will face.
This Month, Equipment-Part 1, which will talk about the AutoX trailer. Next month I’ll discuss timing equipment.
Towing and maintenance of the trailer has always fallen on the plate of the AutoX chair which can be time consuming, especially if the chair is also participating as a driver. I would suggest that in the future, alternative ways be explored to deal with the trailer. The trailer contains most of the things needed to run an AutoX!

Breaking Barriers:
A Woman’s Accelerated Drive in the World of Motorsports
Vanessa Varela, GCR MemberThe first time I saw a woman behind the wheel at an autocross event, I was utterly captivated. My older brother had been my gateway to the racetrack, but it never occurred to me that I could be the one in the driver’s seat. What started out as a casual interest, quickly turned into a full-blown passion. I found myself eagerly anticipating every track event, immersing myself in the exhilarating world of roaring engines and highspeed chases. In between these adrenaline-filled weekends, I would seek out car shows, filling the void with anything that could keep me connected to this vibrant community, even if it meant showing up in my trusty Toyota Camry.
When I turned 16, instead of dreaming about extravagant parties in fancy dresses, my heart was set on Sebring
Raceway, surrounded by my three closest friends. Convincing my parents was a feat in itself, but somehow, we made it happen. We spent a night in a haunted hotel, complete with a murder mystery that ensured none of us got a wink of sleep. But the real adventure began the next day at the Sebring track, where I experienced the pure joy of driving on a race track for the first time. That moment was transformative, but it also marked the beginning of a difficult conversation with my mom, leading to a temporary ban from the tracks. It was a heartbreaking setback, and I couldn’t understand her fears until I became a mother myself.
Years later, marrying into a family where Porsche was more than just a brand, it was a legacy. It reignited my passion for motorsports. Learning from my husband Bobby, and my father-in-law Bob, it opened my eyes to a whole new level of racing. I immersed myself in the world of real track events, car shows and Porsche Club of America (PCA) gatherings. Joining the PCA in 2018 felt like finding my tribe, a community where everyone shared a common bond over the love of cars.
As my daughters grew up, I wanted them to know that this exhilarating world wasn’t just for boys. Introducing them to the Porsche community, I saw their eyes light up with excitement, a reflection of my own passion. We have since spent countless days at track events and Porsche gatherings, creating cherished family memories.
However, as we explored this world together, we noticed that something was missing. It wasn’t about the merchandise or the need to shop; it was about representation. Walking through these events, we saw countless men proudly wearing their favorite vehicle model on their shirts, but there was a glaring absence of anything that spoke to us, to women who shared this passion. It wasn’t about finding something to buy, it was about seeing ourselves represented in this community we love so dearly.
We started to brainstorm, not with the intent to launch a product line but to spark a conversation about inclusivity in motorsports.
We wanted to highlight those women that are a vital part of this community, with a love for cars that runs just as deep. It’s about more than just merchandise; it’s about feeling seen and acknowledged in a space that we have come to cherish. Follow along on my journey and join the conversation on my Instagram - RWB_girl. Let’s drive together, one racetrack at a time.

Elevating Porsche’s Shine: Professional Paint Correction with Dry Ice Cleaning
Ian Gerada, GCR DirectorHave you ever wondered how to get that showroom-worthy shine for your Porsche? One of the secrets that lies in paint correction is with dry ice cleaning—a process that brings tired surfaces back to life while preserving their timeless appeal. But let’s be clear, this isn’t your typical weekend DIY project.
Paint correction is the meticulous process of restoring a vehicle’s paint finish to its original, flawless state. This involves addressing imperfections such as scratches, swirl marks and other blemishes that detract from the overall appearance of the vehicle.
Dry ice cleaning is a top-tier method for achieving paint correction. It works by blasting solid carbon dioxide pellets at high speeds to clean and prepare surfaces. When it comes to Porsche vehicles, where every curve and detail matters, paint correction becomes a game-changer, giving your ride that extra oomph it deserves.
The Steps of Paint Correction:
Checking the Surface: First things first, your professional detailer would examine your Porsche’s surface. Every scratch, swirl mark and imperfection gets a once-over, setting the stage for what’s to come.
Prepping for Perfection: The sleeves are rolled up, and your detailer gets to work prepping your Porsche for its makeover. That means covering sensitive areas, clearing away any loose gunk and setting up shop for the magic to happen.
Unleashing the Dry Ice: Now, let’s dive into the fascinating process of dry ice cleaning in action! Picture a specialized machine designed specifically for this task. It’s equipped with a nozzle that releases solid carbon dioxide pellets at high velocity, powered by compressed air. These tiny pellets, made from compressed carbon dioxide, are as hard as a rock, yet they vanish into thin air upon impact, leaving behind no residue. As they hit the surface of your Porsche, they work their magic, zapping away contaminants and imperfections without the need for harsh chemicals or abrasive scrubbing. It’s a gentle yet highly effective method that preserves your Porsche’s pristine finish while rejuvenating its appearance.
For visual information on dry ice cleaning in action, check out this informative video by PCA.

With the surface cleaned up, it’s time for some fine-tuning. Think of it like giving your Porsche a spa day. Swirl marks disappear, scratches fade away and the paint gets its groove back, all thanks to the skilled hands of your detailer.
Protecting the Shine: Finally, the deal is sealed with a protective coating. This not only makes your Porsche’s shine pop but also shields it from the elements, keeping it looking sharp for miles down the road. In essence, paint correction with dry ice cleaning is more than just a makeover—it’s a love letter to your
Porsche. When it comes to your prized possession, trust professionals to ensure every detail is handled with care. Their precision techniques, ecofriendly solutions and commitment to maintaining your Porsche’s timeless appeal make them the go-to choice for paint correction services. With every scratch erased and every swirl mark smoothed out, your ride gets the VIP treatment it deserves.
With dry ice cleaning, you can rest assured that your Porsche is in good hands. Using a team of experts that is trained to handle even the most delicate surfaces will ensure that your vehicle emerges from the process looking better than ever.
Perhaps the biggest benefit of paint correction with dry ice cleaning is the boost it gives to your Porsche’s resale value. A well-maintained exterior is a surefire way to attract buyers and command top dollar when the time comes to sell or trade in your vehicle. So why wait? Give your Porsche the treatment it deserves and watch as it shines brighter than ever before.
When it comes to your Porsche, every detail matters. From the sleek lines of the body to the shine of the paint, every aspect of your vehicle contributes to its overall appeal. That’s why it is essential to choose a paint correction method that not only restores your Porsche’s beauty but also preserves its value for years to come. With dry ice cleaning, you can achieve both, ensuring that your Porsche remains a symbol of luxury and sophistication for miles down the road.
Best regards, Ian

Uncorking the Charms of a GCR Wine Tasting Event
Event coverage by Alicia Laya
Many would say a good day starts with a great cup of coffee but ends with a fine glass of wine.
Afterall, there is something very special, almost magical about wine. It leads us through different tastes, aromas and stories from around the globe.
On the evening of Sunday, March
17, host Juliet Paulet graciously welcomed over 50 GCR members for its first Wine Tasting Event and Dinner.
Nestled in the charming ambiance of the Trattoria Pampered Chef Italian Restaurant in Miami Lakes, the elegant stage was set for an unforgettable wine and dine experience of Porsche devotees accompanied by their beautiful automobiles.
As the GCR members arrived at the restaurant, they were greeted with soft guitar strumming music as a backdrop, setting the perfect tone for the start of the event.
An exquisite lineup of seven beguiling and vibrant wines from around the world awaited the GCR members. The impressive, hand-picked wines presented by the chef originate from the richest soils and the oldest wineries of Sicily, Argentina, Spain and Chile.
The impressive selection of widely loved red wines featured Cabernet Sauvignon and Pinot Noir, complemented by Sauvignon Blanc, Chardonnay and Pinot Grigio which were among their white wine offerings.
First served from the enticing menu were delectable antipastos, paired precisely with a choice of red or sparkling rose wine. Next, the authentic Italian main entrees were served with their impeccable paired robust red and wine wines. Topping off the sumptuous meal with decadent desserts that matched perfectly with sweet wines.
Each guest felt invited into the world of wine, no matter what their wine experience level.
Amidst laughter and good cheers, the evening ended with the coveted raffle of the best bottle of Bordeaux wine in the house, courtesy of Juliet and Osvaldo Paulet.
The GCR is especially grateful to Chef Ghobrial for his warm hospitality, for the dishes, that graced the tables and for the impeccable service provided by the wait staff. His dedication to presenting delicious foods and pairing them with superb wines truly made for an unforgettable evening.
Juliet Paulet assures the GCR members to be on the lookout for the next Wine Tasting Event, which promises a lineup of French wines paired with amazing dishes.
The GCR wishes to congratulate and thank Juliet Paulet for a great event or as they say in Italian, molte grazie Juliet!
Thank you to all the GCR members who came out to celebrate an evening as fulfilling as the wines and delicious food shared.
Special thanks for their contribution to this successful event go to Osvaldo Paulet, Mario and Lissette Gonzalez, Ian Gerada, Christy Spangler and Kevin Jones.

PHOTO FINISH
Christy Spangler, Photo EditorMy All-Time Favorite Car: My 993
Linda Bowyer submitted this photo and remembered when she first saw the (soon to be hers) 993. “I was driving at a PCA track event at New Hampshire International Speedway in 1996,” says Linda. “It was love at first sight!” At the time Linda was driving her 1989 944 Turbo S, a great track car, except for the turbo lag. She had been wanting to upgrade to a 911, but her heart was now set on this specific 993.
This 993 was a Polar Silver Metallic 1995 911 Carrera 2, with a Porsche aero kit and cloth seats with Porsche written on the diagonal. It had been lowered, had wider wheels, turbo brakes and a sound kit that gave it a great throaty sound. As luck would have it, the owner, who seemed to buy a new Porsche almost every year, put it up for sale in the winter of 1997. Linda immediately jumped on it and bought it without ever driving it. The car was located in New Hampshire and Linda was living in Boston at the time. That winter, there was snow on the ground so it wasn’t until spring that Linda was finally able to take possession of her 993. Since then, she has driven the car at track events, autocrosses, rallies, rambles, drive-n-dines and on normal day-to-day commutes. Linda says, “It has always been a sheer pleasure to drive.”
Linda has been a PCA member since 1995. Originally a North East Region (NER) member, then briefly a Potomac Region member. She moved to Miami last summer with her 993 and BMW and is now a member of the Gold Coast Region.
Linda took this photo with a Canon PowerShot SD750.
