Why will I study Spanish?

At Prince Henry’s you will work alongside professionals who have a wealth of experience in their field and are passionate about the languages that they teach. We create a learning environment in the classroom that motivates and encourages students to communicate, as far as possible, in the target language, and incites them to take on challenges as well as risks with their learning. We employ different teaching methods that actively engage our students in meaningful and experiential learning as well as trigger their curiosity.

The Modern Foreign Languages course will give you a comprehensive foundation to become an outstanding NQT and teacher of Modern Foreign Languages.

What will I study?

The breadth of the MFL National Curriculum will be explored, together with relevant and current Teaching and Learning Pedagogy. You will have the opportunity to test ideas and various teaching strategies in a supportive environment, gradually developing your classroom skills. From focused observation of teachers in the classroom and working together with teachers in lessons, you will gain insights into the successful planning and delivery of MFL lessons and other classroom organisation and management issues. You will be provided with all of the tools in order to empower the students in the four skills of Listening, Reading, Speaking and Writing.

How can I prepare?

Think carefully about your subject knowledge and how current it is. Try to plug any gaps in your grammatical knowledge and have a look at some of the exam board websites such as AQA and Edexcel. At A level, students have to study a novel and a film, have a look at the prescribed choices, how would you feel at the prospect of having to teach one of these?
