Do you love Mathematics and want to share your passion with others? Are you able to break a problem down and explain mathematical rules to people who find it challenging? Mathematics is a hugely valuable subject and one that all schoolchildren must study so it is important to be able make it accessible, relevant and interesting. It develops problem solving skills, logical thinking and resilience all of which are extremely important moving into the world of work. We want to train teachers who are the very best subject specialists to inspire the next generation.
How can I prepare?
Strong subject knowledge is important and although there will be plenty of opportunity to develop this once you have been accepted on to the course, the more you have done before hand the better. Gaining school experience will also help you decide if Mathematics teaching is for you.
What will I study?
You will have the opportunity to become part of a secondary school Mathematics department. Here you will observe experienced teachers, experience classes at all levels and build up to teaching groups collaboratively and independently. Alongside this, you will be learning the skills needed to be a successful teacher. You will have subject session to enhance your understanding of the curriculum, assessment and teaching strategies to support your teaching practice.
