If you want to use your passion for sport to shape the lives of children, Physical Education is a great course for you. You’ll be able to follow your interests in sport, health, wellbeing and working with young people by training as a PE teacher.

Get first-hand experience of working practically and in the classroom during your time in school. While on placement, you’ll develop the skills needed to deal with the demands of secondary school teaching in today’s world.

At Prince Henry’s we believe that Children need PE teachers who can inspire and motivate them through a range of innovative and creative lessons, empowering their class to get involved with sport by bringing physical activity to life. If you are similarly enthusiastic about the subject and if you aspire to make a real difference then choose PE!

What will I study?

The course is active and practical, allowing you to develop professional competencies through work undertaken in school. We explore the difference between teaching practical PE compared to the theoretical side of the subject. You’ll also work with subject specialists, young people, develop expertise in your specialist subject area, share and discuss educational issues and study relevant educational research. The course is just the beginning of what we hope will be a process of continual professional development throughout a challenging and rewarding career.

How can I prepare?

A PE SCITT Trainee is expected to have a strong working subject knowledge of a range of different practical sports and activities. You will also be exposed to the theoretical side of the subject. Therefore, revising your practical skills and addressing gaps in your subject knowledge is advisable. Obtaining coaching qualifications in different sports is a traditional path taken by many prospective PE teachers and is strongly recommended.

“I have a love and passion for Sports and I would like to pass on my enjoyment for Physical Education to students.”
