Student finance if you’re eligible Is Business for me?

The course focuses on preparing you to become a teacher in either Business or Economics (or a teacher of both). You will learn the necessary skills to become a secondary teacher of GCSE and A level content, as well as the specific considerations for how to excel in the subject areas.

In Business you will learn how to provide pupils with a clear understanding of how businesses work in the modern world. There is a focus on the effect topical issues have on businesses and how that generates change. Whilst in Economics, you will learn how to give pupils an excellent grounding in Economic theory, but also the development of marketable skills like analysis and balanced judgement in a world of infinite variables.

For this to be the right choice for you, you will need to be interested in the world of Business, feel motivated to evangelise the advantages pupils can gain for their future lives in understanding the world of work and have the adaptability, patience and energy to lead (and sometimes keep up with) a class full of young minds.

If you have the business knowledge, energy and enthusiasm, we have the experience and know-how to train you for the rewards and challenge of what is a wonderful vocation.

Economics • Engagement – ideas for lesson content and teaching approaches in Business and Economics • Differentiation – practical ideas how it can be done in our subject • Assessment – exams and in class • Planning a scheme of work in Business and Economics

How can I prepare?

Become familiar with what the pupils study in the courses and how they will be assessed. Take a look on the exam board websites, find the course specifications and familiarise yourself with the content.

Have a look at past papers, mark schemes and examiner reports, and get an idea of what skills and students are expected to gain (and what level within the course they are expected to teach.

Keep abreast of the topical news stories that apply to the world of business and Economics. You will be looking to apply the theory to real life examples that are current and therefore of interest to pupils.

“I always like to exchange opinions and ideas with students.”
