Statement: It has been a privilege to serve our community in this position. I have listened, changed course when necessary, asked hard questions, and secured new leadership to successfully prepare students for their next endeavors. I will tirelessly continue that effort. I am boots on the ground, researching and connecting with all stakeholders to prioritize student learning. While acknowledging the impacts of the pandemic on students, much was still accomplished with CTE programs, technology upgrades, teacher support, and capital project completions, adding over 100 classrooms. Spending your tax dollars with fidelity and transparency is paramount to enriching education. Students deserve greater than a basic education. Vision, strategic thinking, collaboration, and timely implementation is essential.
Next year holds unique challenges. It’s obvious students thrive in the physical classroom. This is my focus heading into fall 2021, however, we must extend our vision to ensure students thrive for generations. I will be mindful of their needs beyond this pandemic, including district growth, safety, academics, and equity in education. We are a district of excellence with deep roots and tradition. I will continue to make sustainable decisions that are student-centered and I would be honored to be your voice on the Puyallup School Board. Community Service: Continuously look for ways to help others where they are. Direct assistance to the community increases benefit for the needs of others without “Administration Fees”.
Statement: I your consideration to represent your children
Having been a resident within the Puyallup School District since 1992 provides me with history and a broader knowledge of past decisions made as well as the effects thereof. I know my decision making can be objective with my historical knowledge. My 2 older children attended our Puyallup Schools in the 90s. My wife and I currently have 2 children (one special needs) attending in PSD. We, as well as many of you, have personal interest in our district’s success. I support sound Education options without bias which will benefit every parent and child.
All children should receive the greatest level of education and a safe learning environment for the staff and students alike. Educational success requires a strategic and effective school board coupled with accountability. I will stand strong for District Policies focused on educational success. I support Public Instruction that emphasizes mathematics; social, physical, and life sciences; civics and history; geography; arts; health and fitness.
Financial responsibility is paramount to balance taxpayer contributions and provide a highly successful learning environment. Taxpayers have been tasked with more financial support without increase in academic success. I will be your voice

Elected Experience: None
Other Professional Experience: N/A
Education: Product of the public school system.
Community Service: Christmas in April, Habitat for Humanity, Strong supporter of the St. Francis House of Puyallup.
Statement: “One way or another, we all have to find what best fosters the flowering of our humanity in this contemporary life, and dedicate ourselves to that.” – Joseph Campbell
Jacob Koukel has dedicated his life to this theory: From serving in the United States Navy, to being a devoted father to his foster daughter and step-children, to his commitment as a Life Safety Engineer. Jake does everything with the belief that there are more ways to give back, room for one more at the table, and finding the humanity in others.
Jake is a living example of the successful college alternate track that is sorely lacking in schools today. In order to navigate the world we live in, children must learn to think critically. College is often, but not always, the answer, and our children deserve the right to not only have all of the information, but know how to use it.
His tenacious spirit, drive for doing the “right thing” and the idea that no one is left behind is what motivates Jake to run for the Puyallup School Board. What better way to foster the flowering of our humanity than by voting Jacob Koukel for Puyallup School Board!

Statement: I am qualified to run for the position of Puyallup School District No. 3 Director Pos. 1 because I am a promoter and an activist for learning with an experienced understanding that a child’s success in education may be contingent on having breakfast at school, access to additional help in core curriculum, parental support for learning and/or the ability to participate in after school activities. As an educator it is my mission to produce ‘self-reliant lifelong learners and the infrastructure to support student success academically and personally in school, in the community and in the home.
I knew that I wanted to be a teacher when I was in the 3rd grade and managed to not only achieve that goal but to be an educator for a variety of ages and subject areas from Pre-school through post graduate students, including K-12 school administration. I think the things that attracted me to be an educator is an integral part of my character - tenacity, creativity, organization, empathy and service.
