The Story of All of Us
Like many good things, the idea of this magazine came to be over a few rounds of alcohol with friends at a local pub. For over three years, we’ve published The Prague Visitor magazine, which is available in over three hundred locations across Prague – mostly in hotels. We aim the magazine at Prague's visitors looking for real and authentic experiences without having to worry about the tourist traps that always seem to sometimes plague any touristic city. We wanted to promote the best restaurants, the best bars and the best things to do. We vowed we wouldn’t take advertisers that had low ratings, bad reviews or who had a bad reputation. And we’ve stuck with that idea, even if we sometimes have

turned away business. We crafted the magazine to be like having a local friend who would give recommendations. Fast forward a few years later and a few beverages into a summer evening when one of our local friends and long-time Prague resident said “I read your magazine as often as possible, but it’s hard to find outside of hotels, and sometimes I wish the content weren’t so tourist specific.” Turns out a lot of people felt that way, including our advertisers. Speaking of, we’d be remiss if we didn’t invite like-minded advertisers who are looking to reach an expat audience to join us on our mission. Advertising in the magazine starts at less
than 100kc per day. So, welcome to our first issue. Our goal is to tell the stories of the people, places and events that make Prague such an amazing city to live, work and play. As we’ve developed the idea of this magazine over the past several months, the one thing we’ve decided is that we want you to be a part of it, our reader. Over the coming months as we speak to you with each issue, we hope to hear from you once in a while as well. Your ideas and suggestions are always welcome – after all, this is the story of all of us. Here’s to a happy and prosperous 2019.

Catching up with the man behind Manifesto Market Martin Barry is a man on the move, literally. As the Founder and Chairman of reSITE, a nonprofit that fosters the exchange of ideas for more lovable and livable cities, Barry is no stranger to travel. Constantly criss-crossing the globe and flying to projects around the world, Barry has led multi-disciplinary teams on complex urban projects in North America, Europe, Asia and the Middle East. Closer to home, Barry is known as the mastermind behind Manifesto Market, a culture and gastro market designed from shipping containers in the center of Prague on a formerly abandoned site. We caught up with Barry at the Prague Airport with his wife and son on his way to NYC to spend some quality time with his family. [PR:] Your projects at your former firm W Architecture won many awards and you recently received the national community service award from the prestigious American Society of Landscape Architects (ASLA). Growing up, did you always want to become an architect? [MB:] I think that every kid wants to be an architect at some point. In 2nd grade I drew a picture of myself as a construction worker. My teacher said “maybe you want to be an architect instead?” I
8
PRAGUE RESIDENT | JANUARY 2019
shrugged my shoulders and said “okay.” I never looked back. [PR:] Favorite past projects you’ve worked on? [MB:] Manifesto, which started as a relatively simple design and culture project with a real estate business model, but in the last 7 months as I’ve pursued a bigger vision for the project, I’ve also had to study and learn more about proptech and fintech and the gastro industry. reSITE is my nonprofit project and organization, it’s a constant learning process to identify hot topics and the most effective ways to impart real change to use design to improve the way we live. We organized over 160 culture events, mostly music, at Manifesto this year, all for free and paid for by my company. We want to expand that and develop the model more this year. [PR:] Your Fulbright Scholarship brought you to Prague, what about the city drew you in and inspired you to stay and found reSITE? [MB:] I’m most interested in solving challenges. Initially, I saw a huge opportunity to help solve issues associated with development of the city, to make Prague more sustainable and livable. Improve parks, and the riverfront. Prague is big enough to be an influential European city, but
small enough where you can get to know the right people fairly quickly. I love that. Inherently, the city also offers a pretty high quality of life, right? [PR:] Favorite spaces in Prague? [MB:] Franciscan Monastery Gardens in New Town. Or, Manifesto Market near Florenc. (Laughs) [PR:] How has Prague evolved since you’ve been here? What do you hope to see in the coming years? [MB:] We are now partially in the gastro concepts. I established Manifesto because I saw a need for higher quality and a more diverse food offer with good service. That said - since 2011 when I first came to Prague temporarily, the food scene was still really basic, with only Ambiente and Aromi Group setting new standards. That’s totally changed now, which made it the perfect time to open Manifesto. [PR:] In a previous interview you said you’d like to see more partnerships between the public and private sector as a way to improve public space in Prague – has this been realized at all? [MB:] Not really. I think the municipality and private sector have learned a lot from reSITE events, essays, advisory and our expert partners about this - but there’s a long way to go for both sides to be able to trust win-win partnerships. There is a lot of mistrust, and folks work too hard to identify problems. We will keep going to identify solutions. That said, at Manifesto we have succeeded to bring together many diametrically different types of partners and collaborators to make it possible.

involved in different ways and on different levels in urban design. You can find them as an open resource on reSITE.org. Warning: it’s fascinating! You can spend quite some time watching them.
Manifesto Market captivated residents and visitors from the very start, even garnering attention from The New York Times.
[PR:] You’ve defended the future Zaha Hadid project and commented on how Czechs refuse anything new, especially in the historic centre – how do you propose architects and designers branch this gap of paying homage to the incredible history of the area while also taking the city forward into the modern future? [MB:] It’s such a critical but difficult balancing act. A city - by nature - is about moving forward and development. We must continue to build if we are to provide and improve the quality of life and affordability of the city. To build, is to advance. Developers and architects should ask themselves “have I listened to the concerns of my public? Is this of a quality and density of other buildings or cities I admire? Does this add any significant value to the city?” [PR:] What can we look forward to at next year’s reSITE conference on Urban Regeneration?
[PR:] What projects are you working on now, with reSITE, City Crew, or otherwise? [MB:] reSITE is working on new event formats with Meyer Sound that we aim to kick-off in San Francisco in the middle of 2019. The creative team is also working on new series for The Atlantic Citylab about cities of course that will kick-off in the US or Western Europe in late 2019. We have a surprise in store for Prague, because we decided to completely rethink our flagship conference here and transform it into a different event format. We will announce that soon. Manifesto is expanding abroad and in Prague. We are building a new digital loyalty and payment system, integrating a new point of sale system, app and website, and in pre-development for two new locations. So, I hope to transform the company from a food market to a global proptech player in 2019, working with interesting new investors to do it.
[MB:] We didn’t know what to expect. I knew we had a good idea and we’ve executed exactly what we promised. The public reaction has been overwhelming, honestly. We are so humbled and have a high bar to pass in the coming years!
[MB:] You’ll likely have to come to Lisbon for that as we are finalizing a license agreement with the City for our main event. However, we will announce a surprise new reSITE project early in 2019 here in Prague.
[PR:] In Fujimoto’s talk at reSITE he mentioned the “fundamental similarity between nature and the messy city” and that Tokyo and nature are structurally the same… What is the structure of Prague? How would you describe Prague’s mix of deeply historical and sleekly modern spaces?
[PR:] What is your overall philosophy, the core of what you hope to accomplish in all that you do?
[MB:] My answer will be insanely boring for your readers! But who wants to think in depth of how the cities are created, organized, planned and designed should check our library of talks including Fujimoto’s lecture. We have produced more than 150 videos with thought-leaders
[MB:] My mission is to solve challenges with design and high-quality experience. I collaborate to do that. I like working with people who understand the value of a win-win. I try to do it all by being a good person and asking myself, did I add any real value to the conversation or world this year? If I am not running businesses that help solve a quality of life or quality of a city problem, I am doing something wrong.
[PR:] How do you choose your projects, what inspires you to get involved or to encourage others to take part? [MB:] It’s a secret. :) [PR:] Manifesto was designed by students who won a competition - what do you look for in your architects and designers, anything specific? [MB:] Ability to be flexible while also having a strong value system. I want people around me who are smarter than I am, and who think quickly, react to changes, and aren’t afraid to fail. [PR:] Manifesto has been a massive success, were you expecting such an amazing reaction? How was the alternative Christmas Market?
Manifesto didn't hybernate for the winter, even featuring heated igloos which could be reserved by patrons.

Humanizing History
Czech video game takes an educational approach to history It’s undeniable the 1942 assassination of Reinhard Heydrich by Czechoslovak army-in-exile soldiers was a pivotal moment of resistance to the Nazi regime. Heydrich, the Reich-Protector of the Nazi-occupied Bohemia and Moravia territory (and who was aptly nicknamed “The Butcher of Prague”), was the highest senior Nazi leader to be assassinated during WWII. The operation, codenamed “Anthropoid,” is still revered as the first successful demonstration to Nazis officials that they were not beyond the reach of allied forces and resistance groups. Attentat 1942, a new Czech video game, addresses this era in Czechoslovak history through a unique and virtually unheard of take on war-themed video games. “The civilian perspective is typically missing in warthemed games,” says Vít Šisler, the game’s lead designer and Associate Professor of New Media Studies at Charles University. “Attentat 1942 shows the profound impact the war and the totalitarian regime had on the lives and minds of ordinary people.” Using documented personal testimonies and research conducted by professional historians, the game “immerses players in living histories of personal tragedy and pain” while also sharing a message of “extraordinary hope and courage.” The content creators combined interactive comics, video-interviews featuring eight survivors, atmospheric mini-games and archival film footage from WWII to draw players in and depict the war “through the eyes of its surviving civilians.” Attentat begins with the discovery that your grandfather was arrested by the Gestapo after Heydrich was assassinated. You then follow the plot to discover what role he had in the attack, why you were kept in the dark and if it was all worth it. Although the plot may be fictional, the historical story surrounding the game is entirely accurate so those playing learn about the reallife events of Operation Anthropoid. One way you navigate the game is through conversations with eyewitnesses. You click on what to say and a real life, cinematically filmed person responds. The characters look directly into the camera, right into your eyes, making it feel as though you’re not watching a character in a game but instead actually talking with them. You even witness characters going about their day, answering the door, tidying up the kitchen and sipping tea, as if you were right there in the house with them. While the interviews are filmed in the style of a documentary, the flashbacks appear in comic bookesque drawings of grey, brown and black colors. The lack of color adds to the seriousness of the mini-challenges, which include burning damaging belongings or hiding a gun before the Gestapo burst in and catch you. The events of the flashbacks involve the singlemost devastating assassination of a Nazi official and its extreme repercussions, ordered by Hitler himself. During Nazi rule, Heydrich served as the General of Police, chief of the Gestapo and founder of the Security Service, which neutralized any Nazi threat. He was the main architect of the “Final Solution of the Jewish Question” and described by Hitler as “the man with the iron heart.”
It was under his authority that the Czech concentration camp Theresienstadt was established and the Holocaust was carried out. The British Special Operations Executive and Edvard Beneš’s Czech government-in-exile organized Operation Anthropoid, training Czech resistance members to carry out the assassination. The agents parachuted into Prague and rolled a hand grenade under Heydrich’s vehicle – eight days later he died from his wounds. Although the agents were able to hide in the crypt of the St. Cyril and Methodius Cathedral for over a week, they eventually died in a massive shootout with the SS. You can now find a memorial for the fallen agents in the church’s basemen crypt. The game’s introductory video montage includes images from this time and even footage of Heydrich himself. It addresses how the SS falsely linked the nearby villages of Lidice and Ležáky to the Czechoslovak soldiers who carried out the assassination, burning the villages to the ground. About 340 of Lidice’s 500 residents were murdered; all men over the age of 15 were executed and the women and children were sent to concentration camps where many of them died in gas chambers. The game also includes clickable sidebars that share the facts of the specific events and cultural entities your character talks about with interviewees. For instance, you learn about places like the Theresienstadt concentration camp or how print media dwindled down from 2,000 different publications to only 238 by the end of the war. Through these depictions and explanations, Attentat “offers a stark reminder of the dangers of fascism and political radicalism,” says Shawn Clybor, the game’s translator and content localization specialist. It attempts to gracefully but poignantly navigate the impact the war had on every civilian, whether they were involved in the resistance or not. Attentat 1942 is actually a significantly enhanced remake of the game Československo 38–89: Atentát (Assassination), which was made for high school students and won the “Best Debut” category of the Czech Game of
the Year Awards in 2015. While Československo was only released in Czech, Attentat can be played with English, German and Russian subtitles – an extraordinary feat considering the linguistic intricacies involved in keeping the facts historically accurate. “The Czech version of the game is heavily contextual so in many instances the translators had to rewrite the text in order for it to make sense to a non-Czech audience,” says Šisler. “All these changes have been consulted with us and our historians in order to avoid schematizations.” Attentat was developed by Charles University and the Czech Academy of Sciences. Šisler led a team of more than twenty-five designers, programmers, historians, animators and others to create the game that has gone on to win multiple awards, including Best Czech Game of the Year, 2nd place in the Game Development World Championship, Best Learning Game in Games for Change, Most Amazing Game with A MAZE and Finalist in the international Independent Games Festival. Šisler’s own research focuses on the “intersection of culture and digital media.” He has been a Research Fellow and Fulbright Scholar at top universities and is also the managing editor of CyberOrient, “a peerreviewed journal of the virtual Middle East.” Šisler and his team created Attentat out of the desire to “make a serious game about the contemporary history of Czechoslovakia.” “The events of the second half of the 20th century have fundamentally shaped our contemporary society, yet are not really critically reflected in video games,” says Šisler. “We wanted to show recent history from personal, intimate, and diverse perspectives.” Although this is the main goal of the game, the key message to Šisler is a bit more complex. “When we think about history, we often perceive it as something distant and definite. Nevertheless… it is our daily decisions and actions that create history,” says Šisler. “Democracy can’t be taken for granted and the time might come when we have to fight for it.” JANUARY 2019 | PRAGUE RESIDENT

Bar and Books
barandbooks.cz Bar & Books is the first overseas extension of the famous New York family of bars, with two locations in Prague (the casual hangout in Mánesova and slightly more formal experience in Týnská). The tiny little bar at the top of Wenceslas Square near the National Museum has a delightful speakeasy vibe to it, though it’s quickly becoming a popular secret. If you should luck out and discover the nearly unmarked entry, inside you’ll find an intimate, dimly lit bar with old jazz and R&B records playing and amazing craft cocktails served in antique glassware. +420 777 200 015 for Reservations.
Crazy Daisy
Václavské náměstí 4, Prague 1

Schody Home Bar
Zámecké schody 8, Prague 1
Recently opened bespoke cocktail bar and sister to one of our favorite cocktail places, Parlour. Located right on the stairs (schody) leading to the Prague Castle, like Parlour it's also hard to find but well worth the search. Once you're inside, tell the mixologist what flavors you like and he'll fix up your dream cocktail. No website, no number - it's a cozy hidden secret and they're trying to keep it that way.

Boudoir Talk Billy Rayner is a singer who could not care less if you actually listen to him sing. “People have a lot more fun when there’s no pressure,” says Rayner. “I just want everyone to relax and have a good time in a pleasant, theatre-lounge setting.” Whether you’re looking for an entertaining performance or a cozy spot to hangout, Rayner’s show, Royal Boudoir, is the perfect Saturday night scene. “This is one of the only places in Prague where you can hear quality live music with a charismatic showman,” says Rayner. “I want people to say, ‘Let’s go hang out with Billy,’ not ‘Let’s go watch his show.’” Half lounge-style singing, half stand-up comedy and playful banter, the show is nostalgic for past eras of showmanship while still seeped in decadence and modern humor. This all began just one year ago, when Rayner started working as a backstage helper for the popular Prague Burlesque show. Quickly advancing from a behind the scenes aid to choreographer and dancer, Rayner found a mentor and theatrical partner in David Jahn, a.k.a. Sonny Vargas, founder of Prague Burlesque. “We teamed up and were a good match, really bumped up the show,” says Rayner. “He has the vision and I’m his glasses. I sharpen his vision.” Rayner was a lounge singer in his spare time and realized the genre was missing in Prague’s nightlife. With the support of the theatre and Jahn, Rayner brought Boudoir to life to fill this void. “I’d like to bring that performance back where you can watch if you want to or just let it be pleasant background music,” says Rayner. “I think lounge music is very much dead right now.” Rayner’s love for lounge music has been an ever-present part of his life. Growing up in Queens he dedicated his life to theater early on, attending the renowned LaGuardia High School (the arts school the movie Fame is based on). “I’ve always had a penchant for older times,” says Rayner. “Because of the honesty and charisma of the performers. I can’t stand modern music

and entertainment, with performers just flippantly showing up in t-shirts and DJs playing for themselves in corners.” Dressed in a vest and tie for our afternoon drink at Bullerbyn, Rayner certainly looks the part, emanating a modern-day Frank Sinatra. “It’s a step back to a simpler time when every place had a band and a singer who’s connected with the crowd,” says Rayner. “I like to be very ironic, have some fun with it – I’ve got my bottle of tequila next to me, I’ll drink with the audience, saunter through the crowd, sit on their laps and play with their hair.” To Rayner, the show is an intimate, personal and comedically entertaining interaction with the audience. He tailors his jokes to current events and people in the crowd, addressing them directly. “I want them to feel the performer cares about them,” says Rayner. “I give everything to my audience, making every show unique and personal. Everyone leaves with a cheers and a little chuckle.” Rayner and his partner, pianist Robin Finesilver, not only cover classics but also rock songs from artists like Guns N’ Roses, Radiohead and even Cher. “[Finesilver] definitely has my back,”
says Rayner. “I throw him a lot of weird requests. He’s amazingly versatile, always changing keys for me. He loves playing Blues and Hard Rock but I have him doing Liza Minnelli and Bette Midler.” Their relationship is a big part of the show as well. They banter back and forth, taking sad songs, like the Eagles’ “Desperado,” and turning them into comedy gold. “I choose the songs and set the tone, but without him doing the heavy lifting behind the scenes I would be a total mess,” says Rayner. The historical ambience of the theatre lends itself perfectly to this nostalgia for a past era and “deserves quality vintage entertainment” according to Rayner. Founded in 1929 and known at the time as one of the largest and most modern cinemas in Prague, the Royal Theatre and Club Chic is a portal into Czechoslovakia’s most iconic time, the First Republic era. Much of the theatre’s original furnishings and architecture still remain, including the stained-glass windows, elaborate lighting fixtures and marble-detailed stairs. Even the original woodwork from the 1920s remains, lining the balconies and walls. In 2014 Frenchman JeanChristophe Gramont took over the theatre, helping the space to regain
its original popularity – it was recently named as one of the top six bars in the Czech Republic by Elle magazine. Besides Prague Burlesque on Fridays and Royal Boudoir on Saturdays, the theatre also hosts concerts, film screenings and art exhibitions. Gramont, who is a writer, director and film enthusiast himself, is incredibly supportive of the Royal’s shows and performers. “What I love about the Royal is they’re really ambitious,” says Rayner. “They’ve given us full reign and assurance that the budget will grow with the show. I’d like to bring in comedians and other quality performers, we’re really blessed to have the support to do that.” Although the song selections change every week, Rayner always ends the show with Sinatra’s “One for My Baby (and One More for the Road),” an ode to the stories he’s shared and created with each audience member. “We’re drinking my friend, To the end, of a brief episode. So make it one for my baby, And one more for the road.” Catch Royal Boudoir every Saturday at the Royal Theatre in Vinohrady, Vinohradská 48, Prague 2. Doors open at 9PM, music starts at 10PM.

Her Majesty Elizabeth II is the lead character of Peter Morgan’s play, centred on her weekly audiences given to Prime Ministers. It is in a way a fairy tale about monarchy in the modern world and even though it presents the major British premiers, from Winston Churchill to David Cameron, it is theatre about politicians and everyday politics and all its attendant gimmicks, juxtaposed with a certain timeless archaic principle of control over the democratic government. Play, Centre, Modern world, Fairy tale, Drama

Choderlos de Laclos was a French army officer unable to satisfy his military ambitions. Hence, he began devoting to literature. He wrote a number of poems and librettos but is best known for the novel _Les Liaisons dangereuses_ (1782), composed entirely of letters by the various characters to one other. The veracity of its action makes it the greatest work of its ilk. Almost 200 letters depict the relationship between two rakes who deform the noble ideas of philosophical libertinism into
moral perversion. For the sake of their amusement, the Marquise de Merteuil and Vicomte de Valmont interfere in other people’s lives and hatch schemes that ultimately bring about their downfall. Libretto, Ballet

Queenie:
MUSIC
Bohemia's Rhapsody While the new biopic Bohemian Rhapsody encouraged a rush of renewed enthusiasm for Queen around the world, Prague has had another reason to love Queen for quite some time – Queenie. Branding themselves as concert theatre, Queenie looks and acts the part, with lead singer Michael Kluch sporting Freddie Mercury’s signature mustache and guitarist Rudy Neumann’s flowing Brian May-esque mane of hair, not to mention the musical talent each member possesses and the often handmade costumes. Lead singer Kluch, who is exactly forty years younger than Freddie Mercury, wasn’t always interested in music. In fact, growing up he was more interested in ice hockey. It wasn’t until middle school when a friend shared an album with him that Kluch discovered his love for music. “I remember having heard a greatest hits album for the first time and realizing that all the top hits I knew from the radio were from the same band,” says Kluch. “I was 12.” That band was Queen, who he had never heard of before that moment. After this moment, Kluch realized how brilliant Freddie Mercury was. “I found out that Freddie was a gifted singer,” says Kluch. “I knew it was not easy to sing his songs, but I did it. I have practically the same voice range.” This discovery led Kluch to the idea of performing as Freddie. However, learning his love for music did not deter Kluch from his studies. He had planned to study math and continued his schooling, ending up working at an insurance company and a bank before ever seeing Queenie as a viable hobby to pursue. “I have never thought of it as a career,” says Kluch. “I just did what I enjoyed and what I was the best at.” By 2006 Kluch formed Queenie with fellow students in Prague, including bassist/multiinstrumentalist Martin Binhack, guitarist Rudy Neumann, Petr Baláš on drums, keyboardist Michal David and sound engineer Martin Med. “It was a gradual process. In the beginning, we did not want to make a tribute band, but as we met for the first time (thanks to an ad on the Internet), we knew we all loved Queen and started playing their music,” says Kluch. “We’ve stayed there. Since then, however, the band has changed to its present form. Today it is a professional project, although we still enjoy it very much.” Their first show was a graduate party at Neumann’s school, quickly followed by their first open air public concert. The band has come a long way from that first performance, establishing themselves throughout Prague’s music scene. Neumann is a founding member of the Czech
alternative psycore metal band Dymytry, while Petr “Bali” Baláš founded the Czech pop-rock band LOLA. David has played the keys for various Czech bands and singers, and Med has worked for local venues including Chapeau Rouge and the Rock Café, arranging concerts for world-renowned bands such as KISS and Alice Cooper. He was also involved in Pope John Paul II’s visit to the Czech Republic. To the members, Queenie is a performance in which each must perfect an act as his respective band member. They realize that Queenie is “concert theatre,” not a cover band, and that “each member in his specific role represents the work of another artist.” They base their approaches to the project on “music authenticity and live performance” in order to keep every show as realistic, energetic and entertaining as possible, all while performing the music of Queen perfectly. “We practice our instruments every day,” says Kluch. “We also must understand the original artist in order to perform him on stage in accordance with the essence of his work.” This approach has made Queenie one of the most beloved and successful tribute bands in the world. They’ve sold out concerts not only in Prague but also in Barcelona and Stockholm. In Prague they have performed in all the top venues, from Lucerna and the National Theatre to the
Municipal House and the massive O2 Arena. “Our favorite venue in Prague is the O2 Arena of course,” says Kluch. “But from time to time we have concerts at the Kalich Theater, which we really love.” In 2008 they performed at the Freddie Mercury Memorial Day in Switzerland. The band was personally invited by Peter Freestone, Freddie Mercury’s personal assistant for over a decade. Although the band has not met Queen members in a working context, Kluch is the godfather of the Pirate Swing Band’s Queen cover album, which was endorsed by Brian May himself. “In the last year we’ve played about 150 performances in 20 countries around the world,” says Kluch. “Including an invitation to perform at Queen Elizabeth II’s official birthday celebration.” This past year the band has also performed as the main role in the new musical novel, Freddie. Each member not only performs Queen’s music as they do in their solo shows, but also acts the part of each band member. “Even if only for a moment fans feel that they have met the energy that Queen music contains, the mission is fulfilled,” says Kluch. Catch Queenie on stage at the Kalich Theatre on January 28 and in the musical Freddie at Radek Brzobohatý’s Theatre on January 21 & 22. JANUARY 2019 | PRAGUE RESIDENT

BY Bektash Musa Mission Impossible (1996) The first of what is now a six-movie series spanning twenty-two years, produced and starred in by American actor and stunt-man Tom Cruise. The series focuses on a highly specialized security team called the Impossible Missions Force. In the first installment, an American agent, under false suspicion of disloyalty and the murder of the rest of his team, must discover and expose the real spy without the help of his organization – and the 26

adventures begin. This scene was shot at Platnéřská street which boasts a breathtaking view of the Prague Castle from across the Vltava River in Old Town. Nearby you can check out the Municipal Library and the beautiful Clementinum Library. The Municipal Library is not only the oldest public library in Prague, it is also home to a surreal mind-bending book sculpture and an art gallery upstairs. The library of the Clementinum complex is a Baroque masterpiece, regarded as one of the most beautiful libraries in the world. This library dating back
to the 18th century is filled with floor-to-ceiling books, giant antique globes and an overload of Baroque architecture – well worth a visit! Turkish photographer Bektash Musa fell in love with Prague at first sight. A fan of media, Musa also wanted to show the world the beauty of the city through the eyes of directors who filmed here, pairing photos of actual places with scenes from movies, television shows, documentaries and music video where they were originally shot.
