course if you're from a Western country, it's the time of year when Halloween is celebrated. Just starting to gain popularity here in Prague, there's lots to do this month with Halloween in mind - especially in the bar and club scene. But, just in case you're wanting a scarier night out, we've included a few ideas that encompass fear themed bars, plus a ghost walk that's sure to give you some scary dreams. This month we also give you some ideas on where to take the kids, including a pumpkin patch as well some other great Fall Festivals. In Food & Drink, we celebrate a decade of great Mexican food from Las Adelitas. It's hard to believe that just ten years ago, the guys became not only the first notable Mexican restaurant in Prague, but
also one of the first pop-up restaurants - a trend that 's extremely popular these days. Get out and enjoy yourselves this months (colder weather is around the corner). Be sure and mark SIGNAL festival in your calendar . We included a nice starter article to get you going, but we really do recommend buying the app and accessing everything SIGNAL has to offer. And speaking of SIGNAL, this month we have a nice chat with Martin Pošta, the co-founder of the festival who tells us where it call from, and where the event is heading. Have ideas for us? We'd love to hear from you! Just email us editor@praguevisitor.eu. See you next month!

PROFILE
Martin Pošta
Signal Festival's Illuminating Co-Founder By Nicole Ely In autumn 2010, a crowd gathered around the Astronomical Clock in Old Town Square to celebrate its 600th birthday. The sky darkened. The clock’s face illuminated, recounting the structure’s centuries old history as onlookers watched in awe. For Martin Pošta, one of the organizers of the anniversary videomapping, it was like working behind the scenes of a Rolling Stones concert. “You can see all those people gathering there, because you did something,” he says. He could feel the goosebumps. As cofounder of Signal Festival, the annual outdoor interactive festival entering its seventh year, Pošta has come a long way since his debut at Prague’s clock tower. From 10–13 October, he and a team of 200 people will transform Prague into a canvas for innovative works of videomapping, light projects and installations. Videomapping’s popularity in Prague and other European cities has bloomed since the Astronomical Clock celebration. In the last year alone, Praguers have witnessed the Apollo 11 mission launch off the Zizkov Television Tower and the 100-year evolution of the Czechoslovak state projected on the National Museum. Even Prague City Hall recently announced that it would ditch traditional fireworks in favor of this popular visual display for New Year’s Eve. “It is great to see what impact Signal’s had on the popularization of digital art in general,” Pošta says. Pošta’s first job in this business was when he was 14 years old working grunt jobs at the Karlovy Vary Film Festival. Years before, his family had moved to Prague from Zagreb when war in Yugoslavia broke out. His Croatian father worked as a director of photography. This and KVFF introduced him to his love of film. Referring to himself as a “serial founder,” Pošta went on to launch several business ventures, many of which incorporated film production. From the mid 2000s, he produced the international Fresh Film Festival, a design supermarket, and a hip-hop documentary called Czech RAPublic. He’s currently in production on an animated film to be released late next year. It was at a pop-up bar in his design supermarket several years ago where he became a co-founder of Signal Festival by coincidence. There he got involved with Jan K. Rolnik and Amar Mulabegovic, who were originally considering a videomapping project for the Church of the Most Sacred Heart of Our Lord in
Jiřího z Poděbrad. Then the city approached them to do the Astronomical Clock anniversary. “It was my first videomapping ever,” Pošta says. “We ran it without any tests.” The event’s success led to more job offers. Pošta soon found himself traveling to Liverpool, Dubai and Paris to produce both commercial and artistic events. Eventually, he co-founded Signal Festival in Prague, which has grown from 250,000 attendees to 600,000 since its inception seven years ago. “This job has been such a good marriage between being a geek and loving art,” he says. This year, the festival draws inspiration from the 30-year anniversary of the Velvet Revolution and its impact on society. Some installations will look specifically at 1989 and the fall of the Iron Curation, while others examine more contemporary takes on this theme. “We want to focus on the duality of revolution,” Pošta says. “It can be positive but it can also be violent… You add what’s happening with technology and we’re experiencing smaller revolutions on the day-to-day.” One of the highlights of the 2019 program will be “Intensive Reflections on Modernity” by Jakub Pešek. The largest installation in the festival’s history, this laser show will connect the left and right banks of the Vltava River at Smetanovo
nábřeží. Other can’t-miss installations include the 3D videomapping “R-Evolution” at Tyršův dům and “Space & Possibilities” at Kostel sv. Cyrila a Metoděje (see Your Guide to Signal Festival). While attendees can enjoy the majority of the festival for free, some of the installations are paid entry. Pošta and his team introduced this in an effort to cut down on lines. Festival goers can pay for entry or get a festival pass for access to all six paid installations. Festival passes are 200Kc in advance, 300Kc at the festival, and can be purchased online on the Signal Festival and GoOut websites or at the Gallery zones located at several sites. Pošta was already busy planning next year’s festival before this year’s even started. He has big plans for the future. While he didn’t want to share too many details, he did say that he wants to focus more on sustainability and mobility. In the short term, he hopes the festival goers will get goosebumps just like he did at the Astronomical Clock almost a decade ago. “I know it’s a cliche,” he says, “but I want to give them a sense of wonder. That’s the convening power of the arts, that feeling of getting out of in front of the television and experiencing your city in a new light.”

The Mysteries of Life
A bizarre double-murder case, a baby conceived in prison and a new porn feud have been headline news in the Czech tabloids By Samuel Beckwith, PraguePig.com Singer Karel Gott’s heartbreaking revelation that he has acute leukemia was the big story in the Czech tabloids last month, but two unsolved mysteries also received plenty of coverage. The first involved the disappearance of 72-yearold Marie Drašnarová and 57-year-old Přemysl Herzán, a Prague couple who were last seen alive in June, at a motorway rest area near Čechtice, Central Bohemia, supposedly en route to Moravia. On September 8, Prague police announced that the couple’s blue Renault Fluence had been found in Esztergom, Hungary, around 500 kilometers from their Prague 6-Bubeneč home. Adding to the mystery, the car had been stripped of its license plates and all personal belongings, and the interior covered with what police described as an “unidentified chemical”. Over the following days, pieces of the puzzle began to fall into place. One day later, two 24-year-old men were arrested in Prague in connection with the case; one on suspicion of murder and one of fraud. According to TV Nova, the cops thought the couple had been killed as part of a plot to illegally take possession of their home, valued at 10 million crowns ($426,000), but have yet to find their bodies. Soon, tabloid newspaper Blesk began to dig up more details about the suspects and the investigation. According to the paper’s source, the two men lived together in Bubeneč and were students at Charles University: the murder suspect at the Faculty of Mathematics & Physics, his alleged accomplice at the university’s medical school, training to become a doctor. One man, a neighbor told a reporter, was “arrogant and cocky,” the other “seemed nice and polite.” The murder suspect had also stood (unsuccessfully) as a candidate in last year’s communal elections in a small town in the Vysočina Region, representing the center-right Civic Democratic Party (ODS). More evidence of a Vysočina connection emerged on September 12, when Blesk discovered that “tens” of police had carried out a search of the area around Hněvkovice over the summer holidays, apparently because the village’s base station had been the last to pick up one of the missing couple’s mobile phone signals. Perhaps significantly, Hněvkovice is only a few kilometers from the rest area where Marie and Přemysl were last seen. The investigation continues.
Locked up and knocked up
On the cards
How does a woman get pregnant while she’s in prison? That’s the question that’s gripped journalists since June, when convicted murderer Petra Janáková’s 30-year jail sentence was, in accordance with Czech law, suspended for 15 months because she was—somehow—expecting a baby. Janáková initially said that the pregnancy was the result of her being raped by three prison guards at the remand prison in Hradec Králové. She gave birth to a baby boy in hospital on August 30, at which point GIBS, the government agency responsible for overseeing prison officers, carried out a DNA test. The results show that neither of the accused guards is the baby’s father. Two “independent sources” have since told Nova that the father was a prisoner who served food at the Hradec Králové remand prison. The exact circumstances under which Janáková was impregnated remain unclear but there’s speculation that she did the deed herself, with an improvised syringe. Back in June, Nova reported that a samizdat publication titled “Jak přežít vazbu” (“How to Survive Remand”) was circulating in Hradec, and included advice on getting pregnant to avoid prison. In the latest development in the case, Janáková changed her name to Petra Nová on September 20, to avoid, she says, the stigma associated with her old name.
Not everything is as mysterious as it seems. That was the case with “Edita”, a clairvoyant and cardreader who persuaded at least 112 people that they should hand over money to help lift a curse. In reality, “Edita” was 23-year-old Ostrava resident David Kotlár who, in addition to netting 1.7 million crowns from his online readings, also claimed nearly 300,000 crowns in benefits. Kotlár, who used 1.2 million crowns of the money to pay for a lavish wedding, was given a suspended sentence on September 10, not because he conned people but because he operated without the appropriate licenses. And finally… Attentive PraguePig.com readers will remember the violent confrontation between porn stars Daisy Lee and Silvia Dellai in a Prague club back in April. Now, it seems, Miss Lee (real name Karolína Urbanová) has a new beef, after Drahomíra “Lady Dee” Jůzová threw eggs at her beloved pink BMW. Incensed, Daisy took to Instagram Stories (where else?) to challenge Lady Dee to a fight. In response, Lady Dee suggested the two ladies duke it out in in a regulated boxing match. So get ready, sports fans: On 9 November, at Erotický veletrh, the annual sex-industry trade in Prague 9-Letňany, the two rivals will have it out in the ring. (No pun intended.)

Feliz cumpleaños!
Las Adelitas celebrates a decade serving Prague By Nicole Ely Most days, you can find David Zamorano tapping away on his laptop while enjoying a burrito at Las Adelitas on Americká street. The brand and marketing director has been with the popular Mexican restaurant since it opened 10 years ago. From its genesis, Zamorano has watched it grow from a delivery service to a multi-chain business, and with it Prague’s culinary landscape. “We’re not the only ones who were involved in this change,” he says, “but we were part of it.” Originally from Mexico City, Zamorano first came to Prague in 2006 and discovered a small but tightly knit community of Mexican expats. On most Wednesdays, he and his friends often found themselves grabbing beers after a game of football and lamenting their homesickness for good tacos. “Mexican people are very nostalgic about food and family,” he says In the mid-2000s, it was difficult to find Mexican food in the Czech capital. Authentic products like corn tortillas were expensive for businesses concerned with keeping costs low. Rodrigo Flores worked in many restaurants, none of which allowed him to cook traditional recipes. So Flores and fellow expat Patricio Ibargüengoitia teamed up to start a delivery service, where family, friends and other customers would place food orders through email. “I was one of the first to order from them,” Zamorano says. “It was around the end of 2007.” Soon, the city’s taste and demand for their delicious tacos, burritos and quesadillas grew. By 2009, Flores and Ibargüengoitia hired Fernando Larios to help expand the delivery service. Zamorano joined the team when they opened their first restaurant on Americká street that same year, and Luis Arronte came on as executive chef soon after. The five partners make up Las Adelitas’ core team. While some of them had experience in food service, none had experience in running a business. In the beginning, they worked 17-hour days doing everything from bussing and bartending to community outreach, a change from Zamorano’s background in film production and advertising. Their first restaurant required massive renovations, most of which they undertook themselves. They gutted much of the interior to make room for more seating, painted the walls, and designed and tiled the tables to evoke Mexico’s historic style. They chose the name Las Adelitas as a tribute to the women who cooked food and
often fought alongside the men in the Mexican Revolution. Despite their lack of experience, Zamorano says he was never afraid of filling the restaurant’s 30 seats. In the first few weeks of business, he remembers getting a reservation from a couple who drove all the way from Ostrava to eat at their restaurant. “Their honeymoon was in Mexico, and they were coming because they had heard we serve authentic Mexican food,” he says. The Las Adelitas team entered the restaurant scene at a time when Prague wasn’t known for its culinary flair. As the years passed and Las Adelitas opened three more locations, the guys witnessed the city begin transforming into a destination for foodies. Lokal, a popular beer hall specializing in Czech dishes, opened not long after Las Adelitas, and burger joint The Tavern soon followed. “Ten years ago, there wasn’t a place to find a good burger,” Zamorano says. “So imagine Mexican food.” Now you can not only see a variety of nationalities, from Italian to Vietnamese, but also a variety of dining concepts, such as pop-ups like Manifesto Market or eating while dangling above the Prague skyline like Dinner in the Sky. Mexican restaurants are no exception. While some eateries have come and gone, Prague now has several spots where you can enjoy a margarita
and a taco al pastor, a dish that every Mexican man would miss when far from home, according to Zamorano. These include Agave in Old Town, Little Mexico in Vinohrady, Alebrijes near Kampa, Kukulkan Taqueria at Manifesto Market, and even 24-hour fast-food spot Burrito Loco. Las Adelitas also recently opened the smaller La Taqueria near Namesti Miru, which has a few seats and only serves tacos. Zamorano attributes this proliferation partly to the growth in student exchange programs and tourism marketing between the Czech Republic and Mexico, but Las Adelitas definitely played a part. Places like Little Mexico and Alebrijes were started by their former employees. They also host many cultural events, such as foriegn film screenings and Dia de los Muertos parties, to bring the community closer together and celebrate their culture with others. As their business’s first decade comes to a close, they’re looking at what the next will bring. Now, the five men are focusing on transforming their family-like rapport into a more structured company environment as they grow. They also plan to open more smaller businesses like La Taqueria, with limited menus that spotlight certain dishes. “It’s been a journey to watch the food scene change and we feel proud to be part of this change,” Zamorano says. Coffee imrvére Olšanské nám. 1785/5, 130 00 Žižkov www.coffeeimrvere.cz Monday - Thursday 8 am to 7 pm Saturday & Sunday - Closed Around the corner from the Olsanske tram stop on the way to the Flora mall, there is a little eye catching cafe called Coffee Imrvére. People who ride the 15 or 5 tram between Olsanske and Flora will have noticed this coffee house as it sticks out in an area more suited for foot traffic, and indeed, coffee to go is the more common order as people don’t usually stay long at the establishment. This means that there are almost always seats and tables available for anyone who wants to stay. The interior is vastly exposed as the front of the cafe is basically a giant open door to the outside street. The cafe is surrounded by a sleek wooden frame, which futhers this impression of it being one big open door. Little wooden chairs and tables are set
Kavárna Cafioca Revoluční 18, 110 00 Petrská čtvrť www. kavarna-cafioca.cz Monday - Friday 9 am to 9 pm Sunday 12am - 8 pm
Located near Palladium, Kavarna Cafioca is the perfect escape for an afternoon coffee or tea, or even better, a starting point for the day. The neighborhood around Cafioca has experienced a bit of a surge in recent months, with notable openings like Wine Office happening just around the corner, perhaps spillover from nearby Dlouha's notoriety as being the foodie street. The café is white and cheerful, with bright pastel colored accents throughout. As you walk in, the focus remains on the front counter which houses a variety of confections. It’s surrounded by clean, white walls and seating outfitted with plush, velour-like seating. Breakfasts start with both savory and sweet options. Eggs are free range from Farm Dvorak. The menu features a variety of European breakfast options,

out front which again adds to the feeling that one is almost on the street itself. The first thing one notices when entering, is that the cafe uses real imported beans. This is obvious from the leftover burlap sacks used to transport beans (easily recognizable to cafe goers) that are being used as part of the cafe’s decor, such as seating cushions. The quality coffee is in fact the main reason one should visit this cafe. Coffee Imrévre has a wide selection of coffee beans from Ethiopia, Guatemala, Brasil, Peru and other iconic caffeine Meccas. The baristas prepared every drink skillfully, with diligence by using thermometers for correct temperature and ensuring an even distribution of water over the grounds, and above all, there is a focus on the crema and oils. The majority of the coffee comes from a roastery in Amsterdam called White Label Coffee, though the cafe ensures that all the beans are always freshly roasted. Customers can also buy bags of whole bean coffee from White Label Coffee at the cafe to take home. In addition to great tasting coffee, Coffee Imrévre offers tasty homemade treats like cakes, pancakes and paninis. What’s on sale depends on the time of year as the cafe constantly rotates their inventory depending on what ingredients are available during that time of year. It’s enjoyable to expect something slightly different every time but with the secured knowledge that whatever it is, it is sure to be delicious.
coupled with Asian-influenced options from Hong Kong and Vietnam. The Asian influence spills over to the coffee as well, and we opted for a Vietnamese coffee which was amazing. Downstairs, the seating is even more plentiful and the brightness is carried through, warding off any misconceptions you might have that a basement can’t be cheerful. We ordered the waffles, and weren’t disappointed. The portions were just perfect and it’s what a waffle should be – light and fluffy and crispy on the outside. There were plenty of things to intrigue us on the lunch menu as well – but if you’re breakfast-minded, you won’t get to that – since Cafioca serves breakfast until 9pm.
PRAGUE RESIDENT | OCTOBER 2019
Prague has thousands of cafés. we check them out, one cup at a time.
Kavárna Prazirna Lublanska 676/50 Prague 2 www.kavarnaprazirna.cz Mon – Fri: 8:30 - 22:00 Sat/Sun: closed
The Vinohrady area of IP Pavlova is quite congested with the connections of the underground metro and the multiple tram lines. So, finding a quiet place in the middle of this hustle is great for anyone looking to catch their breath in the hectic location. Located on the same street as the tram lines, Kavarna Prazirna is visible by a small train logo on the outside of the entrance. Entering by going downstairs, your first stop is the coffee bar, where you are greeted by not only the scent of fresh coffee and sweets, but also by the friendly workers waiting to take your order. The name translates to “café roasters” and true to its name, it has its own roasting machine, and roasts
selected beans from around the world. Currently they are roasting beans from Ethiopia, Colombia, Brazil, and Rwanda. The menu boasts a great lineup of drinks: hot coffee classics from Espresso (43kc) to Flat White (65kc), iced drinks from Iced Batch Brew (55kc) to Iced Latte (75kc), as well as a selection of lemonades, juices, beer, and wine. If you are looking for something to nibble on with your drink of choice, choose from a variety of options: sausage, cheese, nuts, toast or any of the sweets on offer (from Coconut balls for 20kc to homemade cakes for 65kc). But, don’t go JUST for the coffee and snacks, go for the ambiance as well. The kavarna is made up of brick walls surrounding and separating the 3 rooms of seating options. Each room has small tables and chairs, and one of the rooms even has armchairs situated next to the bookshelf full of books to read at your pleasure while enjoying a drink or snack. On your way out, you can even purchase your own fresh bag to take home to make yourself, enjoying their coffee even longer.

Wait, what? Why is this on the list? While Gran Fierro is moving to a larger and new location on Myslíkova early next year, the current news is they're now open for breakfast. Known for its authentic Argentinian steaks and sophisticated cocktails, Gran Fierro’s new breakfast menu will teleport you to the streets of Buenos Aires. Crispy churros, fresh salmon, dolce de leche croissants and fluffy eggs are served with the utmost attention to detail speak to Gran Fierro’s upscale dining experience.
It seems like Ramen restaurants are all the rage these days these days, and when we find one that does it right - it's worth mentioning. Our first visit to Takumi is the epitome of quality food and quality service. As soon as you walk into the bamboo-colored restaurant, you’ll find yourself greeted by multiple chefs and wait staff eager to serve. Takumi’s steaming bowls of ramen, fresh seafood, and sticky rice make Takumi’s our new go-to for Japanese cuisine.

OUT & ABOUT
A Spooky Night Out...
Halloween is a relatively new concept here in the Czech Republic. But, with it's dark and winding lantern lined streets, here are some ideas to fill a dark evening
PRAGUE FEAR HOUSE
Have you ever wanted to “experience real horror in person”, or better yet to pay a little extra so a friend can be kidnapped and unknowingly, at first, put through the same thing? That’s what you get with the Hardcore and Kidnapping Hardcore packages, higher-end offerings at Prague Fear House, which is located near the Václavské náměstí station right next to Lucerna. A regular ticket will guide you in a small group through catacombs, where the characters you fear most – attendees select those at the beginning – are waiting to terrify you. The Hardcore version makes you do this alone and even recommends a change of clothes because of the more hands-on experience. There’s also a more family-friendly experience available called the Prague Legends, which is approved for ages 6 and up (the Fear House is 15+). The 45-minute experience features actors that offer a closer look at legends like the Golem of Prague or Karbourek the Water Sprite. Address: Vodičkova 32 110 00 Nové Město Hours: 3-10 p.m. Tu-Th; 2-10 p.m. Fr; 12-10 p.m. Sa-Su; closed Monday Time: 20-45 minutes Cost: 290-1,500kc/person Phone: +420 606 065 110 Web: www.praguefearhouse.com
MUSEUM OF ALCHEMISTS AND MAGICIANS OF OLD PRAGUE Including the bar – and it’s always important to include the bar – there are three parts to the Museum of Alchemists and Magicians of Old Prague, which is located near the Golden Way just under the stairs going down Nerudova Street.
The ground floor is where you get into the student’s mindset, learning through interactive exhibits and reading stories about the old alchemists and magicians who used to practice in Prague. Then, progress up a set of 60 stairs that’s one of the oldest and most narrow spiral staircases in Prague and you’ll find the laboratory of famous alchemist Edward Kelley. Kelley, who reportedly designed the staircase himself in the 16th century, lived there for the last three years of his life, and a guide will explain all of the history that happened in, and emanated from, this attic. And don’t forget to drop into the Kellyxír Alchemical Lab Pub on your way out or in (or both) for some smoky, lab-inspired drinks. Address: Jánský vršek 8, 118 00 Malá Strana Hours: 10-8 p.m., M-Su Cost: 90-220kc/person Phone: +420 257 224 508 Web: www..muzeumpovesti.cz
THRILL HOUSE
“No words are needed. Faces of our visitors say it best.” That’s the line on Thrill Park’s website above an array of photos that prove their case. Whether it’s the guy ready to punch whatever murderer jumps out at him, groups huddling together for safety or a woman formulating the first consonant of an expletive, these people clearly got the fright that they paid for. Located in between the National Museum and the I.P. Pavlova station, Thrill Park offers three options: two VR experiences (one shooting zombies, the other solving a mystery to stop a psychopath) and the traditional dungeon of horrors. With nearly 700 reviews, Thrill Park has a 5.0 rating on TripAdvisor. And don’t forget to pick up that photo of yourself cowering in the corner or screaming your head off. Address: Žitná 1691/44, 120 00 Nové Město Hours: 4-10 p.m. M-F; 2-10 p.m. Sa-Su Time: 15-30 minutes Cost: 250-535kc/person Phone: +420 774 413 313 Web: www.thrillparkprague.com
TAKE A GHOST & VAMPIRE TOUR You finish your beer and head to the corner of Pařížská and Staroměstské náměstí where a woman donning a black gothic costume and oil lantern is waiting for you. You are about to embark on a dark journey through Old Town, where some of Prague’s most famous legends were born. “I only ask you to follow the light,” the woman says, “and let the tour begin.” Your guide’s name is Lara, and she walks you through the narrow alleyways of the city’s historic center, recounting tales of murder that intertwine history, religion, superstition and imagination. She works for Mysterium Tours, a company which offers two-hour walking tours at night that show Prague’s macabre side. They draw on well-known local legends featuring ghosts and vampires that haunt the city’s dark corners. Have you ever wondered why Kinský Palace protrudes in Old Town Square compared to the other buildings? Listen to a story about how a count’s arrogance led to the sacrifice of an innocent. Or if you find yourself wandering down Ovocny trh between the Estates Theatre and Karolinum, you might want to look twice if a beggar wearing a cloak asks you for a few Czech koruna. Have you ever noticed that a 400-yearold mummified arm dangles from the ceiling of St. James the Greater? It is a ghostly warning to thieves. Those who are interested in touring Prague’s gothic churches, convents and medieval residences can enjoy beautiful sites while also getting a good campfire tale. These stories include a corpse bride whose wedding day ended in tragedy, a chancellor who experienced his worst nightmare, star-crossed lovers and their quest for redemption and a Jewish mythical creature that lays in wait. But don’t worry if you think all these stories end in sorrow. As Lara reminds everyone: “Time heals all wounds, even in the case of ghosts.” Mysterium Tours operate in Prague, Budapest, Krakow and Madrid. If you are interested in booking a tour, visit their website at www.mysteriumtours.com or call +420 776 101 952.

bullerbyn.cz Inspired by Astrid Lundgren’s Bullerbyn stories, this unique bar takes you on a trip down memory lane. On top of cocktails they serve amazing lunch and dinner dishes, and brunch on the weekends. +420 723 970 761 for Reservations.
SHRINK’S OFFICE
CASH ONLY BAR
shrinksoffice.cz AnonymouS’s smaller, more intimate sister. This cocktail therapy bar comes in the form of a hidden, calming cellar inbetween the bustling Wenceslas Square and Národní třída areas. After ringing a bell to get in, you will be given a Rorschach test which the mixologists will use to prepare your drink. +420 608 911 884 for Reservations.
cashonlybar.cz Just around the corner from its older sibling Hemingway’s, this little gem is making its own name with cocktails like PinUp Martini, made with passion fruit, vanilla and champagne. CAFÉ BAR PILOTŮ
barandbooks.cz Bar & Books is the first overseas extension of the famous New York family of bars, with two locations in Prague (the casual hangout in Mánesova and slightly more formal experience in Týnská). Like its New York counterpart, the bar evokes the feeling of a gentleman’s library. Dim lighting, heavy woods, ornately framed paintings, and of course books (mostly for visual aesthetics). Reservations online.
The spacious Café Pilot feels like your grandad’s study with leather upholstery, tables modeled after billiards and floor to ceiling bookshelves. Relax with the sounds of blues and jazz and enjoy heavenly cocktails from the bar’s mixologist – the best Vršovice has to offer. +420 739 765 694 for Reservations.

Even before our first drink, we fell in love with the 1920’s feel of the interior, complete with a Muchainspired stained glass window towards the back of the bar. The signature drinks all come with their own history, which the bartender is always happy to explain. If you’re feeling a bit more bubbly, try a selection from L’Fleur’s expansive champagne list. +420 734 255 665 for Reservations

PARLOUR
Krakovská 15, Prague 1
parlour.cz Maybe Parlour doesn’t want to be found – and that’s fine with us. The tiny little bar at the top of Wenceslas Square has a delightful speakeasy vibe to it, though it’s quickly becoming
a popular secret. If you should luck out and discover the nearly unmarked entry, inside you’ll find an intimate, dimly lit bar with old jazz and R&B records playing and amazing craft cocktails served in antique glassware. +420 777 200 015 for Reservations.
SCHODY HOME BAR
Zámecké schody 8, Prague 1
Recently opened bespoke cocktail bar and sister to Parlour. Located right on the stairs (schody) leading to the Prague Castle, like Parlour it’s also hard to find but well worth the search. Once you’re inside, tell the mixologist what flavors you like and he’ll fix up your dream cocktail. No website, no number - it’s a cozy hidden secret and they’re trying to keep it that way.

Ke Sklárně 15
The exhibition seeks to get a broad and ambiguous grasp of Laterna Magika, perceiving it as a phenomenon of many facets and ambivalences. The subtitle The Memory of an Experiment alludes to the focus on experimentation which has always created and still creates Laterna Magika, to the continuous and unceasing experiment out of which it is born; and which, paradoxically, can be the cause of its stagnation. At the same time, MeetFactory is an ideal multimedia space to be transformed into a “laboratory” of Laterna Magika to further revive the memory of experiments. Exhibition

Performed in English with native English actors this brilliant comedy , set in 1910, tells the story of a small Czech theatre company who, having lost some company members, recruit the renowned Czech actor, Karel Infeld Prácheňský, as the The Stand-In for the premiere of a new play, Vlasta . As Prácheňský is unable to remember his lines, the names of the other characters or indeed which play he is performing in chaos inevitably ensues.
