Technology

RapidBend

Turbo charge your press brake.

Flexible part profiles

RapidBend technology adapts to work with a wide range of part profiles including box bending with side flanges.

Save up to 3 seconds per cycle

RapidBend technology can reduce the cycle time by as much as 3 seconds to significantly enhance your productivity.

Ultra-low speed change

RapidBend technology can reduce the minimum speed change point to 0mm above the sheet, eliminating unnecessary slow speed travel to minimise the machine cycle time.

While ensuring user safety is critical for both press brake manufacturers and operators, it is equally important to maintain machine performance. In general, traditional safety and optical protection methods can restrict machine performance and interfere with part production that can result in significantly reduced productivity.

Press Brakes with embedded RapidBend technology utilise high speed progressive muting that enables the tools to close safely at high speed until the punch is only millimetres above the material. This reduces the slow speed travel distance on every cycle for both flat profile parts and box profile parts with side flanges.

RapidBend technology is available in two performance levels - RapidBend and RapidBend Ultimate - to boost machine performance and significantly enhance your productivity.

RapidBend

The entry level RapidBend option enables the press brake to close safely at high speed until the punch is just 4mm above the material. During approach to the pinch point, the machine travels at maximum closing speed with dynamic sensing enabled for various part profiles for uninterrupted closing and shorter deceleration to forming speed minimising the slow speed travel distance to the final 4mm above the pinch point.

RapidBend Ultimate

RapidBend Ultimate technology changes the game by enabling press brakes to operate without restriction to achieve maximum safety and performance. Through a high-speed dynamic muting process and in conjunction with BendShield technology, the tools can close safely at maximum speed, then transition to bending speed right at the material pinch point. This effectively reduces the minimum speed change point to 0mm, eliminating unnecessary slow speed travel to minimise the machine cycle time. RapidBend Ultimate works with a wide range of part profiles including box bending with side flanges.

With time savings of as much as 3 seconds per cycle, RapidBend Ultimate boosts machine performance to significantly enhance your productivity.

Press Brakes equipped with RapidBend technology provide users with higher levels of safety and performance that consistently outperform any other machines on the market. Only press brakes with embedded RapidBend technology can guarantee higher levels of performance, so consider RapidBend or RapidBend Ultimate when purchasing your next machine.

RapidBend technology is available on selected models from these manufacturers:

Technology

BendVision

Real-time bending analysis - unlimited possibilities.

What is BendVision?

BendVision is an advanced high-speed image processing technology that provides real-time analysis of the bending process. The technology is incorporated into the existing hardware of the press brake optical guarding system so no extra components are required, resulting in an efficient and cost effective solution.

What does BendVision do?

BendVision processes images of the press brake tools and material during the bending process and transfers a range of information to the CNC via SmartLink, including raw and processed images, material bend velocity and live angle data. Press brakes equipped with BendVision can make use of this real-time data to provide users with a wide range of customised functions.

BendVision for angle measurement

BendVision technology provides a range of angle measurement data that includes the inside and outside angles of the material, average angle, material warp angle from machine deflection, material spring back angles for various material types, thickness and grain direction, plus end of relaxation angle once the bend has been completed.

BendVision for angle control

The ability for the CNC to receive BendVision angle data opens up a wide range of possibilities for real-time angle control. Instead of just confirming angles are within tolerance, the CNC can use the live angle plus a measured spring back angle to control the bending depth for flexible active and dynamic angle control solutions.

Find out more

The features and functions that are available with BendVision equipped press brakes will differ and are unique to each press brake make and model. Contact our partners for more information and to learn how BendVision technology can improve your production efficiency, speed and accuracy.

Press Brake Catalogue Hybrid Press Brakes

When deciding to purchase a new press brake, there are many factors to consider. One important factor is selecting the type of machine drive system that will suit your production requirements, purchasing budget and running costs.

Hybrid press brakes combine both hydraulic and electric elements, achieving a more energy efficient drive system with improved performance.

Hybrid press brakes use a bi-directional servo electric drive system to pump oil to the hydraulic cylinders. Compared with a traditional hydraulic system where the pump is running continuously, even when the machine is idle, a hybrid system is only working when motion is required.

This means that hybrid systems consume very little energy when idle and are more energy efficient when working.

BENEFITS

• Lower energy consumption since the pump is only running when the machine is moving and when bending force is required.

• Improved control and bending accuracy.

• Faster acceleration and deceleration which results in shorter cycle times.

• Lower noise levels.

• Use less oil than hydraulic machines.

• Economical to maintain.

We recommend that you consult the press brake manufacturer or your machinery dealer for more information prior to making any purchasing decision.

For Electric press brakes go to page 46

For Hydraulic press brakes go to page 66

Hybrid systems use a smaller hydraulic oil tank, leading to a more efficient design and lower maintenance costs when an oil change is required.

When it comes to noise output, hybrid systems are quieter than hydraulic machines due to the lower sound levels of the servo electric drives compared with traditional hydraulic pump motors and that they are only running while the machine is being operated.

TYPICAL APPLICATIONS

• Suitable for a wide range of bending applications that require pressing force up to around 500 tons.

• Suit a range of bending lengths up to around 9 metres.

• Ideal for high-volume production where speed, accuracy and efficiency are required.

Press brakes are operated by an inverter that, combined with a highperformance pump, controls the main motor and activates it only when the machine starts running: this means zero consumption during standby. However, energy savings are also guaranteed during operation thanks to the Pressure Control system that only provides the necessary force for the bending step with a reduction in cycle times. With the CNC, consumption and operating pressure values can be viewed in real time.

Discover the Fourth Generation

Salvagnini’s presence at EuroBLECH 2024 sets out to become a new milestone in the sheet metal working market.

Always focusing on innovation, the company will be presenting the new generation 4 (G4) of its whole range of technologies. The goal is to offer a new perspective to go beyond manufacturing and meet the market’s most urgent requirements, including labour shortages, and look for ever-more efficient solutions to maximize productivity, ensure increasingly high product quality and reduce errors and consumption.

With the new generation 4, Salvagnini presents innovative solutions for improving the simple use and repeatability of jobs, eliminating low-added value activities, reducing lead times and optimising production flows for lower product costs and increasingly high business competitiveness.

To achieve these goals, at EuroBLECH, Salvagnini will exhibit a complete range of solutions: machinery, automation, software, and services. At booth D94 Hall11, with multi-level automation, two different factory proposals will be on show, able to operate with different production strategies: in line with the possibility of standalone processing and with single technologies that, when necessary, work collaboratively.

Embrace a more sustainable future and measure the difference every day, with Impacts

All Salvagnini systems are lean, their energy absorption is smart and limited to the actual job needs. Yet, in an evolving world that pays increasing attention to sustainability, we have to objectify energy efficiency with precise data. This is why at EuroBLECH the consumption of all the systems on the Salvagnini stand as well as, a new world premiere, even single machine programs, will be measured by Impacts. Impacts measures the consumption of electricity, compressed air and assist gas in Salvagnini systems. It is the first step towards calculating volumes of CO2 equivalent of each single manufactured component. The way Impacts aggregates data depends on the services used to view them: FACE, the Salvagnini HMI interface for the whole product range, and LINKS, the Salvagnini IoT solution that monitors system performance, or an OPC UA interface. In perfect Salvagnini style, Impacts is also a flexible product that can customise data collection according to specific needs.

What are the benefits guaranteed by Impacts?

• Impacts is used to monitor and become aware of our own consumptions, to optimise and reduce them. It increases profitability because reducing consumption means reducing running costs.

• Helping to optimise and reduce consumption, Impacts ensures greater environmental sustainability and greater corporate social responsibility.

• Impacts helps to comply with the latest environmental standards.

• Impacts helps to obtain financial and tax incentives available to companies investing in high energy-efficiency machinery often linked to the update of national regulatory frameworks.

Multi-level automation: the enabling factor for factories of the future

Salvagnini’s many multi-level automation solutions are applied to both individual production steps and to eliminate low-added value activities and bottlenecks:

• the punching-shearing centre is equipped with a multipress head with tools always available; it eliminates setups while ensuring high-quality machining and reduced cycle times;

• the panel bender is equipped with universal bending tools that automatically adapt to the size and shape of the part to be produced, in cycle and without machine downtimes; it does not need re-tooling and processes the whole range of machinable thicknesses and materials;

• the laser, with single-optic cutting head to machine all workable thicknesses and materials, requires no adjustment and speeds up production changeovers.

• P-Robot, with the new artificial vision system, maximises the cell autonomy without affecting flexibility;

• with the ATA, ATA.L, MVM and AU-TO devices, the series of press brakes adapt automatically in re-tooling and in managing tools according to what has to be produced, extending its flexibility and autonomy.

In production contexts marked by low volumes and rapid production changeovers, connecting automatic loading/ unloading devices to the systems helps to recover efficiency.

Lasers, punching machines, and panel benders are extremely fast systems, and loading and unloading increasingly creates risks and creates dangerous bottlenecks.

This is why Salvagnini’s extremely wide, modular range of automation has naturally evolved over the years to configure each system differently depending on production needs and includes:

• automatic loading/unloading and sorting devices that reduce idle times for sourcing the sheet metal and the risk of error or damage to the material during stacking;

• automatic loading devices that eliminate waiting times for incoming sheet metal and improve production rates;

• robotised unloading devices that ensure the immediate availability of the machine for the next job, making the part immediately available for downstream operations, even on non-Salvagnini stations;

• intermediate automation devices – transfers, turnover units, etc. – that balance material transfer times from one station to the next;

• a wide range of simple, user-friendly software solutions that facilitate the production process by reducing errors and operator intervention times.

B3.G4-ATA: the press brake combining productivity and flexibility

B3 is the ideal Salvagnini press brake for dynamic production, perfectly combining productivity and flexibility. Designed to combine the features and benefits of the electric and hydraulic solutions available on the market with the in-depth business skills of automation, software, mechanics, and electronics, B3 is available in 19 models, from 2 to 6 meters long and from 80 to 400 tons.

The B3 press brake presented by Salvagnini at EuroBLECH to complete its Flexible Smart Job Shop is 3 meters long with 135 tons of force. Equipped with ATA and ATA.L devices, B3 automatically adjusts the length of the upper and lower bending tools, saving time and recovering production efficiency. Changeover is fast, taking just a few seconds, and programming is simple and intuitive. ATA is an exclusive, patented device that guarantees full flexibility in terms of the tools used to manually integrate standard WILA or special tools, such as flattening tools, on the line.

What makes the Salvagnini B3 press brake particularly interesting are the adopted technical solutions, including Direct Drive and KERS, which help to respect humans and the environment without reducing productivity. With Direct Drive technology, the ram movements are driven by two independent direct drive brushless motors, which allow to achieve both fast approach and fast return, with speeds as high as 250mm/s. On the other hand, the KERS energy recovery system is used to recover energy waste and reuse it in subsequent steps, accelerating and reaching higher speeds with the same consumption.

Visit Salvagnini at EuroBLECH 2024: Hall 11, Stands D94-G93

All the B3 press brakes are equipped with MAC3.0 – a set of integrated adaptive technologies that make the system intelligent and cancel out waste and corrections.

S-Crowning is the intelligent crowning system that ensures consistent bending angles along the entire bending length: as the parameters – material, thickness, length and therefore the required bending force – change, the effective curvature of the lower table is measured and compensated in real-time without any operator intervention. TFC2.0, Total Frame Control, prevents deviations in the bending angle using an algorithm derived from the FEM study of each model. TFC2.0 compensates for any in-cycle deformations of the press brake structure according to the variations of the characteristics of the part being processed. AMS is a laser angle measurement system that detects and corrects variations in the bending angle due to sheet metal spring back. Regardless of the length of the press brake and the part being bent, the angle is always measured in one single point: this approach helps reduce the cycle time without compromising precision.

B3 can be programmed on the machine, but programming in the office maximises its efficiency: the STREAMFORMER software automatically creates the bending sequence, setups, and bending stations, integrating perfectly with ATA devices to enhance performance. Programming in the office also increases productivity, as while the programmer deals with the programs in the office, the operator continues to bend. STREAM maximises the performance of the press brake, allowing it to communicate with the other systems in the Salvagnini Flexible Smart Job Shop.

Two press brakes, one robot and a lot of innovation: ACCURL will bring a powerful press brake from the EUROMASTER series and a fully automated, all-electric bending solution based on the eB ULTRA series to EuroBLECH 2024 (Hall 13, Stand E138). "With our innovative product solutions, we cover the entire range of different applications in the field of bending technology. At EuroBLECH, we will be showing an excerpt of this that is quite something: Anyone who wants to find out how to be able to bend particularly precisely, efficiently and reliably in the future should definitely visit us," explains Cameron Lee, CEO of ACCURL CNC Machine Tools.

The EUROMASTER series stands for top quality and maximum reliability – for the entire life of the machine. ACCURL engineers have consistently relied on 3D CAD software and the latest generation of FEM analysis tools during the development of this series, thus achieving maximum structural stability.

The EUROMASTER is an extremely reliable and highly efficient press brake, economical to purchase and offers many possibilities even in the high-quality basic equipment with Delem control technology. The series is equipped per se with a highly efficient and extremely economical electro-hydraulic press drive from HAWE Hydraulik. In addition, it has movable support arms in the basic package as well as ACCURL® quality tool clamps, type PROMECAM. Alternatively, the EUROMASTER can also be equipped with tool clamps and crowning systems from the renowned manufacturer WILA. With a press force of up to 4,000 kN and a working area of up to 4,200 mm in length, it is also equipped for larger tasks. For particularly efficient work, material handling to and from the system can be automated in combination with a robot.

and fully bending cell

At EuroBLECH, the system type will be experienced live in action with the following equipment: Four meters bending length, 3,200 kN press force, 69S flagship control from Delem including the new dual screen, 6-axis backgauge with pneumatically movable supports,

hydraulic tool clamping and CNCcontrolled crowning from technology leader WILA, angle measuring system

iMeasure from ACCURL, laser bending line as well as CNC-controlled bending aids, Lazer Safe safety device IRIS and much more!

cell

At the EuroBLECH, the homogeneous interaction of an ACCURL robot type ER35B with a press brake with a press force of 450 kN and a bending length of 1,250 mm and many other systems can be experienced.

Bending cell live in use: Robot loads and unloads all-electric press brake

A highlight of automated, dynamic bending technology can also be seen in Hall 13: a fully automated bending cell will be presented. The sheets are guided into position by a robot and precisely shaped by the all-electric press brake of the eB ULTRA series. The robot then picks the bent parts and places them on the designated storage surfaces. "This is a highly efficient system that pays for itself quickly, especially for larger batch sizes," explains Cameron Lee.

The 100 percent electric press brake is highly efficient, extremely precise and works incomparably fast due to its innovative drive system, among other things. The eB ULTRA reduces cycle time and energy consumption to a minimum compared to a system that is operated purely hydraulically and is therefore extremely economical in operation. Even in the basic version, the series has movable support arms as well as pneumatically operated ACCURL Air® quality tool clamps, type PROMECAM. Alternatively, the series can also be equipped with tool clamps and crowning systems from the renowned manufacturer WILA. The dynamic press can be configured with a press force of up to 1,250 kN and a length of up to 3,050 mm.

At the exhibition, the homogeneous interaction of an ACCURL robot type ER35B with a press brake with a press force of 450 kN and a bending length of 1,250 mm and many other systems can be experienced. Among other things, with upper and lower ACCURL tool clamping (the latter allows both WILA and PROMECAM tools to be clamped as well as multiple dies), high-precision ACCURL Ultra wedge crowning, angle measuring system from IRIS Plus from Lazer Safe, two adjustable supports and integrated tool storage.

Award Participant: Laser high performer with 60 kW power

At EuroBLECH, ACCURL will present itself with its sales and service partner MicroStep Europa, which is responsible for the Germanspeaking countries and linked by a close research and development partnership. The duo will also be showing something unique in the laser cutting sector at the exhibition: With the high-power version of the MSE SmartFL laser series, the technology partners will be presenting a cutting system in action that is equipped with a 60 kW laser source.

Among other things, the system allows extremely fast processing of very high material thicknesses and was designed with further technology partners such as RAYCUS and BOCHU. Mild steel with a material thickness of 20 mm, for example, can be cut at a speed of up to 11 m/min.

Material thicknesses of up to 200mm can be processed at its peak. This combination of laser system and 60kW laser source, shown live for the first time so far, has been nominated for the EuroBLECH Award 2024 in the field of cutting technology. Innovative products and solutions are awarded.

"In 2024, we will present an excerpt of our enormous technological diversity, which we are bringing to the European market together with ACCURL, to the specialist audience in the exhibition halls in Hanover. Visitors can be sure that we will provide them with cutting-edge technologies that are precisely tailored to their applications. In combination with our digital solutions, we equip customers from a wide range of industries to be able to produce highly productively, reliably and flexibly in the long term," says Johannes Ried, Managing Director of MicroStep Europa GmbH.

New innovations for precise bending from Aliko

Finnish Press brake manufacturer Aliko is known for innovative product development and flexible design. Aliko’s Finnish made Press brakes and tooling solutions present cutting edge technology and quality. The customers benefit from the advanced and comprehensive solutions for machining heavy materials. Aliko press brakes are manufactured in Finland according to customers’ specifications and requirements.

This article highlights couple of the latest innovations. These are Aliko KMJ Angle measuring devide, Aliko CNC Vario crowning 400 and Aliko CNC Vario die.

CNC controlled and servo driven measuring with Aliko KMJ Angle Measuring Device.

When the bending pressure is released from the material, it will tend to return to its original shape. This effect, which will result as a bend that isn’t at the desi¬red angle, is called the springback. This makes overbending necessary in order to achieve desired angle. With an CNC controlled Aliko KMJ angle measuring device it is possible to measure the springback effect and automatically calcula¬te a correction in real time to reach the desired angle.

• Typical measurement accuracy better than +/-0.1 °

• Can be used with 1V lower tools or CNC vario dies

• Can be cleaned pneumatically

• Change of lower tool won´t affect the measuring nor does it make moving the measuring necessary.

• A covered parking space at the bending table.

• Has a blue beam, making all the lights on the bending bed to be in diffe¬rent colors

• Collission protection for safety

Aliko CNC vario crowning 400 makes adjusting crowning easy

Aliko CNC vario crowning 400 is construction of servo driven self-locking wedges. These wedges are adjusted by servomotors from the control panel. The wedges are located every 500 mm, and each can be managed with the accuracy of 0,01 mm. Being able to adjust crowning in this detail is ideal when bending demanding materials and when aiming for flawless bending result.

Due to the deflection that occurs on upper and lower beam when pushed against each other, the accuracy of bending angle will be affected. Aliko cro¬wning system is designed to compensate the deflection of upper and lower beam, so that accurate bending angle can be achieved throughout the length of the bending material. CNC control calculates needed compensation automati¬cally after which operator can make adjustments based on the bending result. With Aliko vario crowning 400 those adjustments can be made with uttermost precision.

Fast V-opening adjustment straight from CNC control

Aliko has developed a very durable and fast CNC lower tool for press brakes. With the CNC lower tool, the V-opening change occurs in seconds and is completely automatic through the CNC control of the press brake. Due to the speed of the adjustment, the production of small series is cost-effective and much preferable compared to standard bending tool solutions.

The design of the tool pays special attention to durability and precision control. V-opening adjustment range and tool length can be customized according to customer needs:

• Motorized V-opening adjustment, precise positioning every 10 mm

• Fast v-opening adjustment straight from CNC-control

• Strong and durable construction; excellent load resistance

• Possible to add rollers at the corners of the V-opening For more information about Aliko go to www.aliko.fi

New TRUMPF laser cutting machine generates bevels while cutting

The new machine from TRUMPF prepares components for welding while cutting // The TruLaser Series 3000 Bevel Cut Edition automatically creates bevels on the components // This solution is suitable for medium to thick sheets and enables a wide range of edge geometries.

At the EuroBLECH trade show in Hanover, TRUMPF is launching a new machine that automatically prepares components for welding. The TruLaser Series 3000 Bevel Cut Edition can produce beveled cutting edges (chamfers) on the top and bottom edge of the component while cutting. This ensures optimum preparation of the welding edges and saves the otherwise necessary downstream work step. “With the TruLaser Series 3000 Bevel Cut Edition, users get a particularly productive universal machine with which they are able to integrate downstream process steps into laser machining,” said TRUMPF Product Manager Patrick Schüle. The new TruLaser Series 3000 Bevel Cut Edition can apply chamfers to sheets of up to 25 millimeters thick.

“Thanks to the unique design of the cutting unit, the machine can create chamfers of up to 50 degrees, depending on the sheet thickness, which is more than the 45 degrees that were previously standard in the industry,” explained Schüle. The machine can also handle complex bevel geometries with ease. The solution is particularly suitable for mild and stainless steel.

For the 2D processing of components without bevels, users still have access to all the proven TRUMPF lasercutting functions, such as Highspeed Eco for gas consumption reduction, FlexLine for the reliable processing of different material grades and EdgeLine Bevel for the rounding of the upper sheet edges.

High flexibility in bevel design

For this solution, TRUMPF has equipped the cutting unit of the TruLaser Series 3000 Bevel Cut Edition with two additional rotary axes, particularly compact drive motors and a nozzle specially developed for bevel cutting. Thanks to the special design, the cutting head can be tilted in all directions up to an angle of 50 degrees. As usual, the cutting unit regulates the distance to the sheet, minimizing the risk of collision despite the steep angle. The TruLaser Series 3000 Bevel Cut Edition is also equipped with TRUMPF collision protection.

Thanks to the high flexibility of the cutting unit, it is possible to create bevels in different geometries. In addition to the classic V and Y edges, edge geometries in which both sides of the component edge are provided with bevel cuts, so-called DV and DY edges are also possible.

This flexibility in the edge geometry is particularly advantageous when complex components or groups of components are to be welded. To meet the high demands placed on the preparation of complex bevel cuts, TRUMPF has developed a new, particularly simple and intuitive programming system. It contains a preselection of all the processing strategies, which the user can flexibly adapt as required. There are also predefined cutting parameters for the special bevel cut nozzles. This does not reduce the high productivity of the TruLaser Series 3000. TRUMPF is launching this solution at EuroBLECH. Find out more about TRUMPF at www.trumpf.com

Pictured Left: The TruLaser Series 3000 Bevel Cut Edition prepares the welding edges optimally by automatically generating beveled cutting edges on the contours of the components while cutting.

The TruLaser Series 3000 Bevel Cut Edition also produces complex bevel geometries and countersinks without any problems.
