Con los cerezos de Central Park en pleno apogeo de color (en la foto), diferentes instituciones botánicas de la ciudad organizan rutas para disfrutar de la naturaleza y celebrar la floración. En el Brooklyn Botanic Garden, por ejemplo, los días 23 y 30 de este mes no solo habrá visitas guiadas por sus valiosas especies en su máxima explosión cromática, también actuaciones de música y danza y hasta charlas con los jardineros del parque.

Pálení carodejnic, la quema de la bruja, es una mezcla entre carnaval, Halloween y un mercadillo de Navidad. Esta fiesta pagana llena el centro de Praga de salchichas, cervezas y música. Los checos se disfrazan de brujas, lo que, sumado a la arquitectura gótica de la ciudad, da a la fiesta un aspecto de aquelarre. Nada más lejos de su intención, la fiesta fue heredada por los checos de sus antepasados eslavos, que creían que las fuerzas de la oscuridad estaban en su apogeo el 30 de abril. Aprovechaban ese día para purgar la tierra del mal quemando la efigie de una bruja. Desde entonces, los checos despiden el invierno con una buena fogata y olor a bruja quemada.

Pálení carodejnic, or the burning of the witch, is a blend of Carnival, Halloween, and Christmas market. This festival fills Prague with sausages, beer and music, and with the locals dressed as witches against the backdrop of the city’s Gothic architecture, you’d be forgiven for feeling as if you’d actually stepped into a coven, though that couldn’t be further from the festival’s original purpose. Inherited by the Czechs from their Slavic forebears, who believed the forces of darkness were at their height on April 30th, the day was used to purge the land of evil by burning the effigy of a witch. Since then, the Czechs have made a tradition of bidding farewell to the winter with a bonfire.

Ever since it opened in 1870, first as a little shop and then as a large department store in Paris, La Samaritaine (Rue de la Monnaie, 9) was always a place where you could buy luxury goods.

This building, owned by the LVMH group, mixes elements of art nouveau and art déco, and after 16 years of restoration work, a few months ago it reopened its doors. Today it is not only the largest beauty retail area in Europe, but also a historical monument that bears the mark of one of its promoters, Baron Haussmann. Its large glass roof and wrought iron balustrades are also a reminder of the Belle Époque at its best.

‘I’d like to sleep in the Atacama Desert (Chile), where views of the sky, a mattress and a warm blanket would be enough. I also know that the place has hotels with transparent domes that I would love to try. A good landscape is a bonus’, she says, as the singer from Málaga goes straight to the point when it comes to looking for a hotel where she can spend a holiday. ‘Good views, peace, good service and even better food. And when I go to my room, I usually put down my guitar and my suitcase, and I put on music to relax’.

Si hay un lugar mejor que el Museo de Orsay para ver el arte modernista de la Exposición Universal, ese es el Petit Palais (Avenue Winston Churchill). Además de albergar el celebérrimo retrato del anarquista Proudhon con sus hijas, cuenta con suelos espectaculares de mosaico nacarado y grandes ventanales de arcos dorados. Y es gratuito. Para contemplar obras algo más irreverentes, siempre queda Rivoli 59 (59, rue de Rivoli), un edificio entero con talleres de artistas que a la vez es una casa okupa de bien. Salvo por las noches, está abierto a todo el que quiera entrar para curiosear o charlar con los presentes: algunos, fijos y famosos en sus círculos, oscilan entre lo intelectual, lo sardónico y lo esotérico; otros son itinerantes, y muchos, llegados del extranjero. Quien desee alejarse del centro y busque algo menos esnob puede acudir al Parc de Sceaux (RER B, parada Parc de Sceaux en Antony), en la banlieue. Con su château, sus fuentes, su lago y sus avenidas lineales, es un vasto y bello ejemplo de auténtico jardín francés. David Insua: Una vida ha pasado... Al principio era

D. I. A mí sí, me encanta. Es genial, ver lo agradecida que es la gente cuando ven que intentas aproximarte a su cultura, cuando das los buenos días en su idioma o intentas defenderte a la hora de hacer la compra. Creo que es parte de la experiencia de viajar y de inmersión cultural. A mí incluso me gusta coger los periódicos locales y leerlos. O intentarlo.

¿Cómo es viajar siendo gay?¿Mejor destino LGTBI? D. I. Me acaba de sorprender Estambul que, al ser un país musulman, esperarías más rechazo. Pero he ido con mi marido y la gente es muy respetuosa, en los restaurantes, los bares, incluso con banderas LGTBI en los balcones.

¿Os planteáis la posible homofobia a la hora de viajar?

D. I. Yo procuro no viajar a países que no reconozcan mis derechos. Mi marido me planteó hace poco ir a Abu Dabi y me negué, no voy a ir a un sitio donde ser yo mismo esté penado. También me encantaría ver San Petersburgo y no voy a ir mientras esté Putin. Al final intentas cumplir con ciertos estándares morales que te impones tú mismo.

D. A. Cuando he viajado a lugares como Hungría o Polonia no lo he acabado de disfrutar. Al final vas con pies de plomo.

David Andújar and David Insua are the creators of Menudo Cuadro, an interview podcast that analyses the world of celebrities using Generation Z’s language. Their guests range from well-established members of the celebrity scene, to Til Tok superstar content creators, politicians, singers and writers. The Davids, as they’re starting to be known, justify this eclectic mix explaining that only “pop icons” get near their microphones. Well they may be icons, but they’re the nice ones - one of their rules is that they only interview people they’d want to go for a coffee with.

You began two years ago from your living room. In that time, how have you managed to get everyone talking about your work and your methods of communication?

David Insua: A lifetime’s passed…At the beginning it was more like a try out, “let’s just do it and see how it goes”. Now it’s become a job. The focus of the programme has changed as well. We used to talk more about what was happening on TV, now we’re searching for the human side of our guests. I see it more as getting to the heart of someone, rather than just doing celebrity gossip.

David Andújar: We began the programme at David Insua’s house. Just imagine, taking a famous presenter into your living room. Us with our 20 euro Amazon mics, that you could barely hear. To go from that to Podium Podcast, and the Cadena SER studios...

What’s your Big Trip (Menudo Viaje) section all about?

D. A. It’s fabulous. We travel with each guest to an Air Europa destination. We have to call a random number at the destination and persuade whoever answers the phone to say “Menudo Cuadro”. And of course imagine us having to do it in German, in French…

And what about travelling in real life? Are you the types who like to learn a few phrases in the local lingo?

D. A. I find it hard. I’m terrible at languages.

D. I. I am that type, I love it. It’s great, seeing how grateful people are when you try to learn a bit of their culture, when you say good morning or try to get by doing a bit of shopping. I think it’s part of the experience of travelling and cultural immersion. I even like getting the local newspapers and reading them. Or trying to.

What’s travelling like when you’re gay? And the best LGBTQ destination?

D. I. I’ve just been pleasantly surprised by Istanbul, which I thought would be less tolerant, being a Muslim country. But I went with my husband and people were very respectful in the restaurants, the bars, they even had LGBTQ flags on the balconies.

Do you ever think about possible homophobia when travelling?

D. I. I try not to travel to countries that don’t recognise my rights. My husband suggested going to Abu Dhabi and I refused, I’m not going anywhere that being me’s a crime.

And I’d love to see Saint Petersburg but I’m not going while Putin’s around. At the end of the day you try to keep to certain moral standards you set yourself.

D. A. When I’ve travelled to places like Hungary or Poland I haven’t really enjoyed it. You have to drag yourself there. Those trips are like taking a step back, almost like going back into the closet. And there are so many other places to go.

When the volcano of San Juan, on the island of La Palma, woke up 1949, the lava erupting from Llano del Banco poured towards the western side of the island. A river of lava was formed that began flowing from inside the rock, creating a lave tube that has become a natural monument, declared a Site of Natural Interest by the UNESCO. Cueva de Las Palomas is 560 long and three metres wide, and has over 10 openings that provide natural light throughout the tour.

On the plateau in the centre of the island of La Gomera, in the municipality of Vallehermoso, there is huge volcanic rock formation with steep sides, large cracks and a plateau at the top. It has an altitude of 1240 metres and its slopes are home to several endemic species of flora, such as houseleeks and cornflowers. The fortress was used by shepherds as a shelter and was considered sacred territory.

En la costa norte de Tenerife, surge este islote canario de cinco hectáreas, protegido desde 1987. Es una formación geológica volcánica que quedó aislada por la erosión marina. De escasa vegetación, aquí solo encontrarás cardones y tabaibas; eso sí, la nidificación de las aves migratorias es su mayor cometido: petrel de Bulwer, la pardela chica o el paiño de Madeira paran en el roque para ser contemplados y respetados.

This islet has been a protected site since 1987. It has a surface of five hectares and lies off the northern coast of Tenerife. It is a volcanic geological formation that was left standing on its own due to sea erosion. It has scarce vegetation, meaning that here you’ll only find Canary Island spurges and honey spurges, although its greatest mission is to provide migratory birds with a nesting place: Bulwer’s petrel, little shearwater and the Madeiran storm petrel stop on the volcanic rock formation, where they are watched and respected.

Transparent water surrounds the mountain to the delight of snorkelling or diving enthusiasts. The beach that borders this stone mountain is made up of rocks and pebbles, which makes it easier to directly access the water and enjoy some wonderful sunsets.

It is one of the best examples of recent volcanism, perfectly conserved and covered with Canary Island pines, and standing next to another geomorphological structure, the Pinos de Gáldar.

En los municipios de San Mateo, Tejeda, San Bartolomé, Santa Lucía y Valsequillo se ubica este monumento en el que se refugian especies amenazadas y endémicas como el lagarto gigante de Gran Canaria o la lisa rayada grancanaria. En la cabecera del barranco de Tirajana surgen estas paredes erosionadas durante siglos por aguaceros que dan lugar a un paisaje de extrema belleza.

En 1971, el volcán Teneguía irrumpió con fuerza y cubrió de lava parte del extremo sur de La Palma, justo al lado del volcán San Antonio. A este conjunto de volcanes se los declaró Monumento Natural y hoy es un lugar mágico para hacer rutas hasta la cumbre e, incluso, sentir aún el calor de la tierra.

It was the last volcanic eruption on the surface of the Canary Islands. In 1971, the Teneguía Volcano burst into action and covered part of the southern end of La Palma in lava, right next to the San Antonio Volcano. This set of volcanoes has been declared a Natural Monument and is now a magical place for walking up to the top and even feel the warmth of the ground.

This monument is located in the municipalities of San Mateo, Tejeda, San Bartolomé, Santa Lucía and Valsequillo. It is the shelter for threatened and endemic species such as the Gran Canaria giant lizard and the Gran Canaria skink. The walls emerge at the head of the Tirajana Ravine, eroded for centuries by downpours that have created a landscape of extreme beauty.

NUNCA ANTES HABÍA ESTADO EN LONDRES, pero hasta aquí volé, con 28 años, una maleta y sin saber casi inglés, dispuesto a descubrir la cocina de otras latitudes. Nada más aterrizar en el aeropuerto de Gatwick, supe que este país me enamoraría porque era un espacio para la diversidad, la cultura y la mezcla. Aquí se respiraba libertad: la gente paseaba por la ciudad sin importarle el qué dirán, sin estar pendiente de la mirada ajena. Después de 24 años residiendo en la ciudad, mi opinión no ha cambiado en absoluto. Por supuesto, no he perdido mis raíces extremeñas: Talaván, el pueblo de Cáceres donde nací, sigue muy presente en mí.

Pero Londres es también mi casa. Aquí siempre me he sentido muy querido, apoyado y respetado.

Tengo que dar gracias a esta ciudad porque me ha abierto las puertas y me ha ayudado a mostrar mi cultura y mi identidad a través de la cocina que hago, me ha dado la oportunidad de ser yo.

I HAD NEVER BEEN TO LONDON BEFORE, but I flew here when I was 28, with a suitcase and a smattering of English, ready to discover the cuisine in other latitudes. As soon as I arrived in Gatwick, I knew that I would fall in love with the country because it was a place for diversity, culture and mixture. There was an atmosphere of freedom: you could walk around the city without worrying about what others would say, without taking notice of what other people were looking at. After living for 24 years in the city, I haven’t changed my opinion at all, though of course I haven’t lost my Extremadura roots: Talaván, the village in Cáceres where I was born, is still very much in my mind. But London is also my home. Here I’ve always felt very loved, supported and respected. I have to thank this city as it has welcomed me and helped me show my culture and identity through my cuisine, as well as giving me the opportunity to be me.

SERÍA UN PECADO PERDERSE…

IT WOULD BE A SIN TO MISS…

Hotel The Ned [1] (27, Poultry). Uno de los mejores cinco estrellas donde alojarse en plena City. Cuenta con una espléndida gastronomía y exclusivos bares. Entre todos ellos, recomiendo The Ned’s Club: situado en el sótano del edificio, ocupa la antigua cámara acorazada del banco que fue. Y una curiosidad, su puerta blindada fue replicada en la película Goldfinger.

Bermondsey Antique Market [2] (Bermondsey Square). En el mercado de antigüedades más grande de Londres, especializado en porcelana, cristal y plata, los curiosos deben revolver bastante entre la mucha mercancía que guardan sus tiendas y puestos; pero merece la pena si te llevas a casa alguna pieza de la época victoriana o eduardiana. Está abierto todos los viernes, aunque es recomendable ir pronto porque, a las 13.00 los comerciantes echan el cierre.

Berry Bros. & Rudd [3] (3, St. James Street). Reconocida por la mismísima Casa Real británica, esta centenaria tienda de vinos –se mantiene en la misma ubicación de cuando abrió sus puertas, en el año 1698– tiene todas las referencias que puedas imaginar.

Fortnum & Mason [4] (181, Piccadilly). Aquí el té es una religión, y esta tienda de Piccadilly, uno de sus más reconocidos templos. Además de comprar la infusión británica por excelencia, galletas, dulces de frutas y otras delicatessen, ningún visitante debería perderse su afternoon tea, servido con toda la clase que la ocasión requiere.

One of the best five-star hotels for staying in the heart of the City. It has magnificent gastronomy and exclusive bars.

Out of them all, I recommend Ned’s Club, located in the basement of the building and housed in a former bank vault.

Incidentally, its vault door was reproduced in the film, Goldfinger.

Bermondsey Antique Market [2] (Bermondsey Square).

This is London’s largest antique market, specialising in china, glassware and silver, and bargain hunters need to do quite a bit of searching among the items hidden inside the shops and stalls. However, it’s worth the effort if you find something from the Edwardian or Victorian period to take home with you.

It opens every Friday, although it’s a good idea to get there early because all the shops close at 1.00pm.

Berry Bros. & Rudd [3] (3, St. James Street). Recognised by the British Royal Family itself, this 300-year-old wine shop, which is still housed in the same shop that opened its doors in 1698, stocks all the labels you could imagine.

Fortnum & Mason [4] (181, Piccadilly). Here tea is a religion, and this shop in Piccadilly is one of its most renowned temples.

Besides buying the quintessential British infusion, biscuits, glacé fruits and other delicacies, no visitor can miss having afternoon tea, served with all the class the occasion requires.

is inside a magnificent building that dates back to the beginning of the 20th century that started off as a showroom for luxury cars and then it was used as a bank headquarters. I adore this place because of its aesthetics and flawless service.

Little Venice [7] (Paddington o Warwick Avenue). Strolling around this area is quite appealing, especially at the weekend.

Children will have a great time in the Puppet Theatre Barge, a puppet theatre in a boat, and the older folk will enjoy tucking into a Sunday roast.

Selfridges & Co. (400, Oxford St.). I haven’t been able to find a better shop than this for renewing my wardrobe. The quintessential department store also sells one of my favourite sandwiches: salt beef with lots of mustard.

Borough Market (8, Southwark St.). How can I fail to recommend the city’s most famous market? Locally produced produce and a touch of international cuisine, like in Brindisa.

Bob Bob Cité (Leadenhall Building, 122). La más deliciosa cocina francesa en un espacio espectacular y uno de mis restaurantes favoritos. En esta brasserie todo apetece: el caviar, las ostras y un solomillo Wellington increíble. Eso sí, la cuenta puede subir más de lo que te gustaría.

TO FEEL LIKE A GENUINE ‘LONDONER’

The Golden Heart [6] (110, Commercial). One of the most genuine British pubs in London. With its extensive variety of beers, there is a very

church is one of London’s oldest Christian temples and it has appeared in films like The Other Boleyn Girl, Sherlock Holmes and Robin Hood. Walking around its nave in silence is an incredible experience.

National Portrait Gallery [9] (St Martin’s Place). It appears in guide books, although not many people are aware it exists.

And it’s one of the best museums in the city!

River Thames. A walk along the riverbank from London Bridge to the Tate Gallery is something I recommend to everyone.

Personally, I like going at night when the city is peaceful and you don’t come across anyone.

Holland Park (Ilchester Place, Kensington). This small and welcoming park is one of my favourites. Particularly the Kyoto Garden and Fukushima Memorial Garden.

White Cube (144-152, Bermondsey). Lo que ocurre en esta galería, que representa a Damian Hirst o a mi amiga Tracey Emin, resulta una experiencia única. Aún recuerdo la cena que organicé en ella como homenaje a los artistas Gilbert & George.

Gymkhana (42, Albemarle St.).

Es un estrella Michelin para seguir saboreando comida india bien preparada. Me encanta ir allí desde mi casa, en Kennington, atravesando Green Park.

Gong Bar (31, St Thomas St.).

Situada en la planta 52 de The Shard, el edificio de Renzo Piano, esta coctelería tiene unas de las mejores vistas de Londres.

PLACES WHERE YOU NEED TO BE SEEN

The Cinnamon Club [8] (30-32 Great Smith St.). The former Westminster Library is home to one of London’s best Indian restaurants. The chef, a great friend of mine, is Vivek Singh, who has redefined the traditional cuisine of his home country without losing its essence. His game and fish dishes are delicious.

Bob Bob Cité (Leadenhall Building, 122). The most delicious French cuisine in an amazing setting and one of my favourite restaurants. You fancy 40

eating everything in this brasserie: caviar, oysters and an unbelievable beef Wellington. However, you need to be careful, the bill might be more expensive than you had planned.

White Cube (144-152, Bermondsey). Everything that happens in this art gallery, which represents Damian Hirst and my friend, Tracey Emin, is a unique experience. I can still remember the dinner I organised there in honour of Gilbert & George.

Gymkhana (42, Albemarle St.) This is a Michelin-starred restaurant where you can continue to savour very well-prepared Indian food. I love going there from my home in Kennington, walking through Green Park.

Gong Bar (31 St Thomas St.).

This cocktail bar on level 52 of The Shard, the building designed

by Renzo Piano, offers some of the best views of London.

LUGARES PARA DESCONECTAR

St. Bartholomeu The Great.

(Cloth Fair, Barbican). Esta iglesia es uno de los templos cristianos más antiguos de Londres y en él se han rodado películas como Las hermanas Bolena, Sherlock Holmes o Robin Hood.

Pasear por sus naves en silencio es una experiencia increíble.

National Portrait Gallery [9] (St Martin’s Place). Aparece en las guías, pero no hay mucha gente que la conozca. ¡Es de los mejores museos de la ciudad!

Río Támesis. Pasear por su orilla desde el Puente de Londres hasta la Tate Gallery es algo que le recomiendo a todos. A mí me gusta hacerlo de noche, cuando la ciudad está en calma y no encuentras a nadie en el camino.

Holland Park (Ilchester Place, Kensington). Este parque, pequeño y acogedor, es de mis favoritos. En especial, sus Kyoto Gardens y su memorial de Fukusima. Aquí hay pavos reales y otras aves que viven relajados sin ruido de coches.

LAS DALIAS. En los años 80, Juanito de Las Dalias y la galerista inglesa Helga Watson-Todd decidieron montar un mercadillo hippie en el jardín del restaurante Las Dalias. Muchos pensaron que un lugar tan remoto, cerca del minúsculo pueblo de San Carlos, sería difícil de llenar.

Y vaya si se equivocaron. Las Dalias es hoy uno de los mercadillos más famosos de Europa. Y una parada obligatoria para quien visita Ibiza.

Carretera Eivissa-Santa Eulària-Sant Carles, km 12. lasdalias.es SLUIZ. Irse de compras es mucho más agradable si se hace con un cóctel en la mano y el sol en la cara. Todo esto es posible en Sluiz, una tienda con jardín, bar y un interesante calendario de eventos. Sus más de 6000 metros cuadrados sirven de cajón de sastre del diseño, un lugar imposible que se engloba bajo el concepto de compras creativas y que incluye joyería, ropa, muebles y decoración. La tienda pertenece a Yvonne y Hans, una pareja de holandeses que, además, diseña buena parte de lo que venden.

SAL DE IBIZA. Vas a por sal y acabas comprando vino, unas alpargatas y hasta una alfombra. Es lo que tiene ir a Sal de Ibiza, la tienda donde puedes encontrar lo más auténtico de la isla. Cuenta con tres locales, uno en Ibiza, otro en San José y otro en Santa Eulalia. Aquí es posible encontrar sal (por supuesto) y todos los productos gourmet que han hecho famosa a la marca más allá de la isla, pero también lo último en decoración y moda.

Carretera Santa Eulalia, km 3. saldeibiza.com OLEOTECA SES ESCOLES. Esta antigua casa de campo se alza en los márgenes de la carretera de Sant Joan.

Su ubicación, en una encrucijada de caminos, hizo que en el pasado fuera un concurrido colmado. Algo de aquello ha quedado, aunque sus dueños han decidido que tenga al aceite de oliva como protagonista absoluto. Completa la oferta un atractivo restaurante de kilómetro cero.

CHARO RUIZ IBIZA . There aren’t many places in the world that can claim to have launched an actual style of dressing, but Ibiza gave the world Adlib (ad libitum, or freedom in Latin) and Charo Ruiz can take some of the credit for that. The Sevillian fashion designer came to Ibiza in the 70’s and simply never left. The hippies, closely followed by the jet set, were seduced by her white, ethereal dresses, adorned with crocheted lace, voiles and frills. Her children Pablo and Paloma currently lead the Charo Ruiz brand, which began on market stalls and now has three dedicated stores, and is sold at more than 200 retail points throughout the world.

Air Europa apunta hacia la sostenibilidad Air Europa sets its sights on sustainability Su apuesta por la flota Dreamliner y las prácticas responsables activadas avalan su compromiso medioambiental Convertirse en referente sostenible de la industria aérea es un objetivo destacado en la hoja de ruta de Air Europa que, en su más firme compromiso medioambiental, impulsa nuevas prácticas responsables que avalan su declaración en favor de la protección del entorno. Con el foco puesto en el cuidado del medioambiente, Air Europa trazó un plan para reducir un 10% el consumo de combustible en su flota de larga distancia, y alcanzar igualmente una reducción del 10% de las emisiones de los Boeing 737.

Las múltiples medidas adoptadas en pro del entorno y del crecimiento eficiente, que tienen como máximo exponente su apuesta por la flota Dreamliner, han permitido a la aerolínea mejorar la eficiencia de los vuelos un 2%, cumpliendo así el objetivo estratégico de la Aviación Civil Internacional (OACI).

Los Boeing 787 Dreamliners despuntan por

su incomparable y excepcional rendimiento medioambiental al reducir en un 20% tanto las emisiones como el consumo de combustible. A la que es considerada la flota más eficiente se añade toda una batería de acciones activada por la aerolínea, que incluye programas de optimización de rutas; el uso del Electronic Flight Bag para la documentación del avión, o el programa de lavado de compresores de los motores, que también permite reducir el consumo de combustible.

Igualmente, para liberar carga, se han sustituido los carros de catering por otros más ligeros, ajustado la carga de catering a las necesidades reales, cambiado las maquetas de los aviones y se ha reforzado el ajuste de equipaje y mercancía para afinar aún más el peso que transporta el avión. Todo, junto a la creación de un comité de gestión de combustible, para alcanzar los logros medioambientales fijados.
