No le quepa duda: la aviación es el sector del transporte más seguro que existe. Encontrará muy pocos ámbitos con más controles y medidas para garantizar la protección del usuario. Esto no se refiere sólo a lo que implica la operativa de vuelo de un avión; la obsesión por ofrecer la máxima seguridad al pasajero se extiende a cada punto de contacto de una aerolínea con el cliente.

Fruto de este propósito y del interés que tenemos en ofrecerle el mejor servicio posible nace, de entre más de un centenar de iniciativas que estamos trabajando para mejorar la experiencia de nuestro cliente, un nuevo e importante avance tecnológico. Se trata del acceso biométrico que, en colaboración con Aena, ya tenemos en servicio en los Aeropuertos de Palma de Mallorca y Madrid para los vuelos de Air Europa entre ambas capitales. En breve, lo encontrará en más destinos, como Barcelona, Ibiza, Las Palmas o Tenerife.

¿En qué consiste la biometría y qué puede suponer para usted? Se trata de la metodología que permite, mediante sistemas digitales de captación y análisis de imágenes, establecer el reconocimiento exacto de una persona gracias a la identificación de sus rasgos físicos, como las huellas dactilares o el rostro. La aplicación de métodos biométricos está ayudando a mejorar dos aspectos clave: la capacidad para garantizar la identidad de los usuarios y evitar su suplantación, y el tránsito por las puertas de acceso. Ambos casos redundan en beneficio del pasajero.

Hace cinco años, Air Europa ya fue pionera con la primera prueba piloto llevada a cabo en España de un sistema de acceso biométrico en un aeropuerto nacional. Ahora, entra en funcionamiento para los vuelos entre Madrid y Palma. Su uso no es obligatorio y no exime de llevar con nosotros la documentación oficial que nos identifica. Sin embargo, hace mucho más cómodo el tránsito y eleva los niveles de seguridad.

The result of this aim and our commitment to offering you the best possible service is the launch of a new and highly significant technological advance, one of the more than one hundred initiatives we are working on to improve our customers’ experience. Th is is the biometric access which, in collaboration with Aena, is already in service at Palma de Mallorca and Madrid airports for Air Europa flights between the two capitals. Soon, you will find it in more destinations, such as Barcelona, Ibiza, Las Palmas, and Tenerife.

What is biometrics and what could it mean for you? Biometrics is the methodology that allows, through digital image capture and analysis systems, to establish the exact recognition of a person thanks to the identification of their physical traits, such as fingerprints or face. The application of biometric methods is helping to improve two key aspects: the ability to guarantee the identity of users and avoid impersonation, and transit through access gates. Both are in the passenger’s interest.

Five years ago, Air Europa was already a pioneer with the first pilot carried out in Spain of a biometric access system in a national airport. Now, it is being implemented for flights between Madrid and Palma. Its use is not compulsory and in no way does it exempt us from carrying our official identification documents with us. However, it does make it much more convenient to go through security controls and boarding gates, while at the same time boosting security levels.

Desde 1912 lleva celebrándose el festival de flores más importante de Reino Unido: RHS Chelsea Flower Show. Del 21 al 25 de mayo, la Royal Horticultural Society (RHS) organiza en los terrenos del Royal Hospital Chelsea de Londres esta exhibición y concurso de jardines al que asisten siempre miembros de la casa real británica. Un evento que incluye muestras de jardinería de vanguardia de grandes del diseño horticultor en el mundo, y que también reivindica las especies de flores más famosas del mundo, como la Rosa Peace, creada por el francés Francis Meilland entre 1935 y 1939 durante la invasión nazi, y que se puede contemplar en estos jardines de 45.000 metros cuadrados. ENG The RHS Chelsea Flower Show is the United Kingdom’s biggest flower festival and has been running since 1912. From 21 to 25 May, the Royal Horticultural Society (RHS) holds this garden exhibition and competition in the grounds of the Royal Chelsea Hospital in London, and the event is always attended by members of the British royal family. The Show includes samples of avant-garde gardening from great horticultural designers across the world and also showcases the world’s most famous flower species, like the Peace Rose. The rose was created by Frenchman Francis Meilland between 1935 and 1939 during the Nazi occupation of France and can be seen in these more than 45,000 square metres of garden. More than 150,000 people every year attend this great festival that has such strong connections with fashion and art.

“I’ve been with my mother, with friends, with colleagues... The Hoshino Resorts KAI Hakone in Japan is a beautiful place surrounded by nature,” says the designer. Kim, who lives in Amsterdam, recommends the Conservatorium Hotel, “its restaurant, Taiko, serves incredible Asian fusion food”. He also likes the Andaz Seoul hotel, where they know his tastes and, of course, The Karl Lagerfeld Macau, the brand’s first hotel, where Karl himself “designed the interior [...], his love for art deco mixed with traditional Chinese details are remarkable”.

¿Cómo aumentamos la vegetación en la ciudad ante la falta de agua? Es la pregunta que los arquitectos Lys Villalba y Lluis Alexandre Casanovas se hicieron antes de crear su instalación Tres ensayos de paisaje: ecosistemas móviles para climas futuros en Madrid. Se trata de un proyecto piloto a través del cual han ideado tres islas o jardines flotantes que representan un ecosistema específico para las nuevas condiciones climáticas. Incorporan desde vegetación mediterránea a otras plantas pirrófitas que, cuando hay sequía, hacen del calor su modo de supervivencia. Lo novedoso de estas instalaciones, además, es que son móviles, y formarán parte del patio del Centro de Cultura Contemporánea Conde Duque, un espacio vacío que ahora está ocupado por estas islas para mejorar el diálogo de la programación al aire libre de danza, música o performance.

ENG How can we increase vegetation in the city if there’s a water shortage? That’s the question architects Lys Villalba and Lluis Alexandre Casanovas asked themselves before creating their installation Three landscape essays: mobile ecosystems for future climates in Madrid. This pilot project has created three floating islands or gardens that represent a specific ecosystem for new climate conditions in the future. They include Mediterranean vegetation as well as other pyrophytic plants that make heat their mode of survival in drought conditions. Plus, what’s new about these facilities is that they’re mobile and are part of the Conde Duque Contemporary Culture Centre courtyard, a previously empty space now occupied by these islands with the intention of improving the dialogue between open-air dance, music and performance programming.

Amor a primera vista es lo que sintió Carmen Jordá (Alcoy, Alicante, 1988) la primera vez que, siendo una niña, se puso al volante del kart de su padre (el piloto José Miguel Jordá). El recuerdo de la combinación de velocidad, competitividad y adrenalina que vivió en ese momento fue determinante para despertar la pasión que siente por los coches y que, como ella cuenta, “es algo que llevo en la sangre”.

Desde niña ha estado a los mandos de un vehículo. ¿Cómo se prepara una carrera?

Dependiendo del campeonato, la preparación puede ser diferente. Aparte de los entrenamientos físicos, la recuperación y alimentación son una parte fundamental para rendir al máximo y estar preparado cuando tienes que dar el 100% de ti. La fuerza, la resistencia y los reflejos son una parte que tienes que entrenar casi a diario.

¿Quién ha sido su gran referente en el mundo del pilotaje? Uno de mis grandes referentes en la Fórmula 1 ha sido Michael Schumacher. Admiro la capacidad de adaptación a cada circuito y lo gran profesional que era con su equipo. Y eso le llevo a ganar siete campeonatos mundiales.

Fórmula 3, Fórmula 1, incluso Indy Lights. ¿En cuál de estas competiciones se ha sentido más cómoda?

Quizá en F3 es en el que mejor me he sentido, ya que el coche no es tan exigente físicamente como otros más grandes.

¿Ha pensado dejar los circuitos y pasarse a los rallies? Nunca lo he considerado, ya que, aunque pertenezca a la misma disciplina, pilotar en un circuito es totalmente diferente a hacerlo en un rally. Siempre he tenido afinidad por los circuitos, y creo que mi estilo de conducción ha hecho que me gusten más. Nunca me llamó la atención.

Es una firme defensora de crear una competición solo para mujeres… ¿Por qué cuesta tanto que una mujer despunte en un circuito?

Si, y me siento muy orgullosa de que por fin un campeonato solo de mujeres (cuyo nombre es F1 Academy) vaya a ser realidad esta temporada en F1. Al final, como en todos los deportes, hay una parte física muy importante y es donde las mujeres no estamos en igualdad de condiciones. Por eso, tener un campeonato femenino, como en la mayoría de los deportes, es una manera de crear más oportunidades para nosotras.

En una profesión como la suya, ¿tiene un algún truco para preparar el equipaje?

Sí, porque viajando constantemente la planificación es esencial. Tengo un sistema organizado para preparar mis maletas, mis suplementos que me ayudan a mantener la energía alta y un neceser con mis cremas favoritas (soy adicta a ellas). Siempre tengo listo mi set de viaje, y cuento con la ayuda de Carla, mi asistente, que me recuerda si me falta algo.

ENG Love at first sight is what Carmen Jordá (Alcoy, Alicante, 1988) felt when, as a child, she got behind the wheel of her father’s kart for the first time (her father is former racing driver José Miguel Jordá). The memory of the combination of speed, competitiveness and adrenaline that she experienced back then was decisive in awakening her passion for cars, which she says “is something that’s in my blood”.

You’ve been at the controls of a vehicle since childhood. How do you prepare for a race?

The preparation can vary depending on the championship. Apart from the physical training, recovery and nutrition are a fundamental part of performing at your best and being ready to give 100% of yourself. Strength, endurance and reflexes are a part that you have to train almost daily.

Who has been your greatest role model on the motor racing scene?

One of my biggest role models in Formula 1 has been Michael Schumacher. I admire his ability to adapt to every circuit and what a great professional he was with his team. That led to him winning seven world championships.

Formula 3, Formula 1, even Indy Lights. In which of these competitions have you felt most at home? Maybe F3 is the one I’ve felt the best in, as the car isn’t as physically demanding as the bigger ones.

Have you ever thought about leaving the circuits and moving on to rallies?

I’ve never considered it, because although it’s the same discipline, driving on a circuit is totally different from rally driving. I’ve always had an affinity for circuits and I think my driving style has meant that I like them more. Rally driving never really appealed to me.

You’re a strong advocate of creating a competition for women only... Why does it take so long for a woman to shine on the circuit?

Yes, and I’m very proud that finally a women-only championship (known as F1 Academy) is actually going to happen this season in F1. In the end, like in all sports, there’s a very important physical part and that’s where women aren’t on an equal footing. That’s why having a women’s championship, in line with most other sports, is a way of creating more opportunities for us.

In a profession like yours, do you have any tricks for packing your luggage?

Yes, because when you’re constantly travelling, planning is essential. I’ve put together a system for packing my bags, my supplements to help keep my energy up, plus a toiletries bag with my favourite creams (I’m addicted to them). I’ve always got my travel set ready, and I also have help from Carla, my assistant, who reminds me if I’m missing something.

La música, el cine y la literatura son señas de identidad de una ciudad enraizada a sus tradiciones que se abre al mundo desde la amplitud del Río de la Plata que tanto venera. Entre letras y milongas celebra su 300 aniversario. // ENG Music, film and literature are hallmarks of a city rooted in its traditions and opened up to the world from the expanse of its beloved Río de la Plata. En su poema Montevideo, Jorge Luis Borges definió la ciudad como si predijera el futuro: “Ciudad que se oye como un verso…”. Casi 100 años después (el poema es de 1925), Montevideo sigue siendo la misma, suspendida en el tiempo y encantada de poner en relieve el valor de su fértil pasado artístico y literario. Ahí siguen las dulces aguas turbias del Río de la Plata y su inseparable Rambla por la que transitan montevideanos con su termo y su mate, librerías centenarias como Más Puro Verso (Sarandí, 675), cafés sin prisa como el Brasilero (Ituzaingó, 1447), que fue durante años la segunda piel de Eduardo Galeano, versos de Idea Vilariño (poeta determinante del siglo XX), Benedetti (una leyenda), la plaza Alfredo Zitarrosa (que universalizó el folclore uruguayo) o la placa en el edificio de Juan Carlos Onetti (Premio Cervantes). Esa inevitable inclinación literaria nos hace entrar en la librería Escaramuza (Pablo de María, 1185) para encontrar al narrador y poeta Horacio Cavallo (Montevideo, 1977), autor de obras premiadas como El silencio de los pájaros, Fabril, Oso de trapo o Invención tardía, que quiere tanto a su ciudad que se ha atrevido a convertirla en escenografía de sus ficciones. Resulta que “el vínculo es tan fuerte que sucede lo mismo que cuando se quiere escribir sobre alguien a quien se ama: sale cursi”. No obstante, Horacio sí le ha dedicado crónicas en el libro La tacita de plata, un paseo (junto al arquitecto Mariano Arana) por diferentes barrios ensamblado por recuerdos: “Mis lugares son la Rambla en el Barrio Sur, el copete del Palacio Salvo asomando, la sombra de los árboles del Prado o del Jardín Botánico”.

Sobre la tradición literaria de Montevideo, la crítica literaria y ensayista Alicia Torres, autora de libros como Humor a la uruguaya o La Gazeta de Montevideo (1810-1814), tiene claro que “Onetti es el paradigma, pero hay más: los legendarios cuentos de Benedetti en Montevideanos, que retratan a la clase media con un realismo que convierte a los lectores en cómplices, o La ciudad de todos los vientos de Carlos Liscano, que reflexiona sobre el exilio y se burla de la imposibilidad de escribir una novela latinoamericana a la europea”. Experta como es en la materia no olvida títulos recientes como Mugre rosa, el relato distópico de Fernanda Trías que narra la historia de una mujer que “sobrevive a una peste mortífera en una ciudad con reminiscencias de Montevideo”.

Pensando en vínculos entre trabajo artístico y ciudad, el cantante y cineasta Joaquín Peñagaricano cree que el detalle que marca la diferencia es la capacidad de Montevideo de acercar a la gente: “Aquí no hay barreras entre los artistas más reconocidos y los menos reconocidos. Esa comunión entre generaciones facilita un enriquecimiento cultural mutuo”. Tanto su disco Coplas del mar (una hermosa revisión del folclore) como su película Mateína tienen una mirada profundamente montevideana, pues plantea un futuro apocalíptico en el que el mate está prohibido, la peor pesadilla para un uruguayo. Montevideo celebra su nacimiento en 1724 con exposiciones y música, tan esencial para entender su origen guaraní y las influencias afrourugurayas.

Estuario de los ríos Uruguay y Paraná, que desembocan en el Río de la Plata, Montevideo es un lugar de confluencias y culturas. Los historiadores sitúan su origen en 1724 y al militar vasco Bruno Mauricio de Zabala como fundador. Festeja su 300 aniversario con diversas exposiciones y eventos culturales en los que faltará la música, expresión crucial de su identidad. Y es que Montevideo sigue siendo un puerto rioplatense que ha ido asumiendo culturas (sumadas a la indígena guaraní, que ya tomaba mate) y emigraciones. Como sostiene el músico Joaquin Peñagaricano: “La tradición negra de los afrouruguayos que llegaron como esclavos trajeron los ritmos de África de los que surge el candombe. Esos ritmos influyeron en la milonga y el tango”.

In his poem Montevideo, Jorge Luis Borges described the city as if predicting the future: “A city that sounds like a verse...”. Almost 100 years later (the poem is from 1925), Montevideo remains the same, suspended in time and delighted to highlight the value of its fertile artistic and literary past. The city still preserves the muddy fresh waters of Río de la Plata and its inseparable Rambla, the avenue where Montevideo locals promenade with their thermos flasks and mate. It’s also home to centuries-old bookstores like Más Puro Verso (Sarandí, 675); unhurried cafés like Brasilero (Ituzaingó, 1447), for years the haunt of Eduardo Galeano; verses by Idea Vilariño (an influential 20th century poet); Benedetti (a legend); Plaza Alfredo Zitarrosa (who universalised Uruguayan folklore), and the plaque in the building named after Juan Carlos Onetti (Cervantes Prize).

That unavoidable fondness for literature leads us into the Escaramuza bookstore (Pablo de María, 1185) to find narrator and poet Horacio Cavallo (Montevideo, 1977), author of award-winning works like El silencio de los pájaros, Fabril, Oso de trapo and Invención tardía and a man who loves his city so much he’s taken the bold step of making it the setting of his fictions. It turns out that “the ENG

bond is so strong that it’s just like when you want to write about someone you love: it comes out cheesy”. Despite this, Horacio has dedicated chronicles to it in the book La tacita de plata, a stroll (together with architect Mariano Arana) through various neighbourhoods connected by memories: “My places are the Rambla in the Barrio Sur neighbourhood, with the top of the Palacio Salvo peeking out; the shade under the trees in the Prado, and the Botanical Garden”.

On the topic of Montevideo’s literary tradition, literary critic and essayist Alicia Torres, author of books like

Humor a la uruguaya and La Gazeta de Montevideo (18101814), is convinced that “Onetti is the paradigm, but there’s more: the legendary Benedetti stories in Montevideanos, which portray the middle class with a realism that turns readers into accomplices, plus La ciudad de todos los vientos by Carlos Liscano, which reflects on exile and mocks the impossibility of writing a European-style Latin American novel”. As an expert in the field, she also includes titles like Mugre rosa, the dystopian novel by Fernanda Trías that tells the story of a woman who “survives a deadly plague in a city that’s uncannily like Montevideo”.

Thinking about links between artwork and the city, singer and film-maker Joaquín Peñagaricano believes the one thing that sets it apart is Montevideo’s ability to bring people closer together: “Here, there are no barriers between the most acclaimed artists and those that aren’t so famous. That intergenerational communion leads to mutual cultural enrichment”. Both his album Coplas del mar (a beautiful second look at folklore) and his film Mateína have a deeply Montevideo gaze, posing an apocalyptic future in which mate is banned, a Uruguayan’s worst nightmare. Cuando llegaron los fenicios a Ibiza, en el año 800 a.C., se dieron cuenta rápido de que la isla escondía un tesoro a explotar: la sal. Los primeros indicios de aprovechamiento de sus salinas ya vienen de esa época hasta llegar hasta hoy, cuando la sal de Ibiza se ha convertido el gran producto gourmet de la Pitiusa, con una excelente cosecha de 68.000 toneladas en el último año. “La sal de Ibiza se nutre de agua marina única, hogar de la posidonia, rica en oligoelementos y minerales que complementan nuestra nutrición y son importantes para la salud del organismo y que no podemos encontrar en ningún otro alimento”, asegura Maria Antònia Amengual Comas, responsable del departamento de Sales Gourmet y Ecológicas de Salinera Española. No fue hasta 1878 cuando dos comerciantes de Mallorca fundan la Fábrica de Sal de Ibiza, lo que después sería Salinera Española, el punto de partida para que este producto arrancara su explotación y adquiriera la fama internacional que hoy goza. Situadas en el extremo sur de la isla, en el municipio de Sant Josep de Sa Talaia, las Salinas de Ibiza ocupan 600 hectáreas, seis millones de metros cuadrados y, desde 1995, están declaradas Reserva Natural y Espacio Natural Protegido por el Parlamento Balear en 2001. “Las Salinas de Ibiza son un centro de atención medioambiental y turística que dan un valor añadido a la isla, conviven en simbiosis con la extracción salinera que, indudablemente, contribuye a la conservación de la fauna y flora autóctona de los humedales mediterráneos”, añade Amengual.

UNA FERIA DE LA SAL Y PRODUCTO GASTRONÓMICO

La localidad de Sant Josep de Sa Talaia vive, desde hace décadas, entregada a la conservación y promoción de la industria de la sal y su patrimonio. Cada año celebran la Fira de la Sal (19 y 20 de octubre), un evento para conocer la cultura e historia de este producto, “homenaje y recuerdo a la gente que trabajó en las salinas”, aseguran. Aquí se puede visitar la Torre de sa Sal Rossa, en el extremo sur de Playa d’en Bossa, en los terrenos de la parroquia de Sant Francesc de s’Estany, concebida para la protección y defensa de los cargadores de sal durante el siglo XVI y desde la que se ve divisa Formentera. También se pueden visitar los viejos muelles, la plaza salinera de la Xanga, el monumento al Salinero del escultor Pedro Juan Hormigo o el Centro de Interpretación de Sant Francesc de ses Salines; y todo, en el entorno del Parque Natural de ses Salines.

Pero el valor de la sal va más allá del patrimonio cultural, tiene un peso importante como producto esencial en la gastronomía. “El 30% se exporta al norte de Europa para salazón de bacalao, un 35% se exporta a Europa como sal para deshielo, y un 20 % para hacer productos gourmet y ecológicos que se exportan a todo el mundo”, explica Maria Antònia Amengual. La sal se utilizó tradicionalmente como conservante, para olivas o pescado secos, y aún hoy se pueden probar los huesos con col, un plato preparado con huesos de cerdo salados que sirven en algunos restaurantes típicos. Y es que el horizonte de la sal en Ibiza es casi infinito, como dijo el geógrafo árabe Al-Himyari en el año 1300 sobre la isla: “Hay una salina en la que la sal no se acaba nunca”.

ENG When the Phoenicians arrived in Ibiza in 800 BC, they quickly realised that the island was hiding a treasure to be exploited: salt. The first signs that the salt pans were in use date back to that period and work has continued up to the present day. Ibiza salt has become the island’s great gourmet product, yielding an excellent harvest of 68,000 tonnes in the last year. “Sal de Ibiza salt is produced by unique seawater, home to Posidonia sea grass and rich in trace elements and minerals that complement our diet and are important for health; you can’t find them in any other food” says Maria Antònia Amengual Comas, head of the Gourmet and Organic Salts department at Salinera Española.

A SALT AND GOURMET PRODUCT FAIR

The town of Sant Josep de Sa Talaia has been linked to the conservation and promotion of the salt industry and its heritage for decades. Every year on 19 and 20 October, the town holds the Fira de la Sal (salt fair), an event where you can learn about the culture and history of salt and that “pays tribute to the memory of the people who worked on the salt pans”. Torre de sa Sal Rossa stands at the southern end of Playa d’en Bossa in area belonging to the parish of Sant Francesc de s’Estany. The tower was built in the 16th century to protect and defend the salt loading area and is a vantage point with views of Formentera. You can also visit the old docks, the Plaza de la Sal in La Xanga; the Salt Pan Workers’ monument by sculptor Pedro Juan Hormigo, and the Sant Francesc de ses Salines Interpretation Centre, all in the area covered by Ses Salines Natural Park.

IBIZA

It wasn’t until the late 19th century, around 1878, when two merchants from the island of Majorca founded the Sal de Ibiza salt factory, which would go on to become what’s now Salinera Española. Their factory was the launch pad for marketing this product and gaining the international fame it enjoys today. Located at the southern end of the island, in the municipality of Sant Josep de Sa Talaia, the Salinas de Ibiza salt pans occupy an area of 600 hectares, some six million square metres. In 1995 they were declared a Natural Reserve and in 2001 they were listed as a Protected Natural Area by the Balearic Parliament. “The Salinas de Ibiza salt pans are a focal point of environmental attention and tourism, both of which are valuable for the island and exist in symbiosis with salt extraction, which undoubtedly contributes to the conservation of Mediterranean wetland native plant and animal species” adds Amengual.

But the value of salt goes beyond its cultural heritage, it also plays a major role as an essential gastronomy product. “30% is exported to northern Europe for salting cod, 35% is exported to Europe as salt for defrosting and 20% for making gourmet and organic products that are exported all over the world” says Maria Antònia Amengual. In the past, salt was traditionally used as a preservative for dried olives or fish, and even today you can still try bones with cabbage, a dish prepared with salted pork bones and served in some local restaurants. It can truly be said that Ibiza’s salt horizon is almost limitless, as Arab geographer Al-Himyari said in 1300 about the island: “There is a salt pan where the salt never runs out”.

Air Europa introduces facial boarding on flights between Madrid and Palma de Mallorca

Los pasajeros de esta ruta pueden beneficiarse de esta tecnología a través de la app de la aerolínea, desde la que pueden registrar su rostro y simplificar el acceso a la puerta de embarque.

Air Europa ha puesto en marcha en los Aeropuertos de Madrid-Barajas y Palma de Mallorca, un innovador proyecto de reconocimiento facial que permite a sus pasajeros enrolados en el programa agilizar su paso por el control de seguridad y el acceso a la puerta de embarque en los puntos habilitados para ello. Gracias a esta iniciativa, los usuarios pueden aligerar su tránsito en tierra sin mostrar su documentación, evitar colas y garantizar la seguridad de la operativa en todo momento.

Los nuevos dispositivos de reconocimiento facial consisten en unas puertas especiales de acceso dotadas de un sistema para la lectura de documentos y una cámara para identificar al pasajero que se haya registradop previamente. Si la ima-

gen coincide con la de la documentación en vigor, la puerta se abrirá.

El uso de esta tecnología es voluntario Para disfrutar de ella, es necesario previamente registrarse en la app de Air Europa, en la de Aena o en los quioscos de reconocimiento facial del aeropuerto. Este sistema no exime de llevar la documentación vigente, como exige la normativa, sí permitirá a los pasajeros superar los controles de seguridad y el embarque de manera mucho más ágil, cómoda y flexible.

Inicialmente, será la ruta entre ambas ciudades la que se beneficie de este tipo de acceso, que pronto estará disponible en más destinos y frecuencias de Air Europa. Así, está prevista su activación, a lo largo de los próximos meses, en los aeropuertos de Barcelona, Ibiza, Las Palmas y Tenerife.

Este proyecto confirma el papel de la compañía como una de las aerolíneas más innovadoras del sector. Su uso contribuirá a la digitalización de la operativa y a mejorar la experiencia del usuario.

Air Europa has launched an innovative facial recognition project at Madrid-Barajas and Palma de Mallorca airports, allowing registered passengers to enjoy speedier passage through the security checkpoint and access to the boarding gate at the points set up for this purpose. The initiative allows users to reduce transit time on the ground without having to show their documents, avoids queues and ensures operational security at all times.

The new facial recognition devices consist of special access doors equipped with a document reading system and a camera to identify the pre-registered passenger. If the image matches that of the valid documents, the door opens.

The use of this technology is voluntary. To take advantage, passengers must first register on the Air Europa App, on the Aena App or at the facial recognition kiosks at the airport. Although this innovative system does not exempt passengers from carrying valid documentation at all times, as required by regulations, it will allow them to pass through security controls and board in a much more streamlined, convenient and flexible fashion.

The route between the two cities will be the first to benefit from this type of access, soon to be available on more Air Europa destinations and flights. It is expected come into force over the next few months at the airports in Barcelona, Ibiza, Las Palmas, and Tenerife.

UN AÑO RÉCORD EN SOLIDARIDAD

A record year for solidarity

En 2023, Air Europa llevó a cabo 38 operativos aéreos de trasplante.

Desde hace años, Air Europa colabora con la Organización Nacional de Trasplantes (ONT) como línea aérea comercial disponible para el transporte de órganos para trasplantes. Tras el descenso de la actividad que supuso el año de la pandemia, la compañía ha ido incrementando su participación en estos vuelos hasta alcanzar, en 2023, el mayor número de operativos aéreos de trasplante realizados en un solo ejercicio, con un total de 38. Esta cantidad representa más del 12% de los trayectos realizados por aerolíneas para llevar órganos para trasplante hasta centros hospitalarios.

La labor de la aerolínea en estas intervenciones está regida por la urgencia, pero también por una cuidadosa preparación. Al primer contacto con Air Europa por email desde la Organización en el que se notifica la necesidad de habilitar espacio en un vuelo para un trasplante, le sigue la inmediata intervención del Centro de Control de Operaciones (OCC) de la compañía, que comparte la información disponible tanto a las dos bases aéreas afectadas como a la tripulación del vuelo y al centro de control de tráfico aéreo.

El órgano destinado al trasplante es lo último que embarca y lo primero que baja del avión. Una ambulancia esperará a pie de pista, junto a la aeronave, para recibirlo y llevarlo lo antes posible a su destino. El pasado ejercicio, los operativos más habituales se activaron, principalmente, para el traslado de riñones, hígados y pulmones.

Los datos de 2023 compartidos por la ONT son un ejemplo del notable trabajo realizado por esta entidad, verdadera guía a escala internacional tanto por la calidad de la labor desarrollada como por su impacto positivo en la sociedad, gracias a su labor de concienciación a favor de la donación.

En palabras de la ONT, “la colaboración de las compañías comerciales se hace indispensable para realizar muchos de nuestros traslados aéreos”. Para los profesionales de Air Europa, este trabajo conjunto representa no sólo una gran satisfacción por lo que representa para los pacientes que aguardan un órgano; constituye, sobre todo, un motivo de agradecimiento a la propia ONT por una tarea fundamental que ha convertido a España en un referente global en materia de gestión de trasplantes.

El próximo 21 de junio, Air Europa vuelve a conectar Madrid y Venecia. La aerolínea retoma esta ruta, y lo hace, además, con dos frecuencias diarias. Air Europa resumes its route to Venice in June.

From the 21st of June, Air Europa will once again be connecting Madrid and Venice. The airline is resuming this route, with two daily flights.
