H Guy's and St Thomas' NHS Foundation Trust Delivery trucks for Guy’s and St Thomas’ NHS Foundation Trust currently travel around 1,500 miles per week. To remove trucks from the capital’s roads, the trust has become the first in the country to pilot a daily riverboat delivery service as part of plans to reduce its carbon footprint. For each truck removed from the road, approximately 708 kgs of CO2 could be saved per week. The three-month pilot saw the riverboat pilot service run twice a day, five days a week, carrying parcels, which include clinical supplies for operating theatres. H The Hillingdon Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust The Hillingdon Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust currently operates the first all-electric patient transport vehicle in the NHS, taking patients to and from appointments at Hillingdon and Mount Vernon hospitals. Operated by patient transport partner HATS, the Renault ambulance has a battery capable of about a 95-mile range between charges under normal conditions and use, and the ambulance itself emits zero CO2 and is totally silent.
H Manchester University NHS Foundation Trust In an emergency, being able to land just minutes away from specialist care at MRI or RMCH is crucial. The first elevated Helipad of its kind in the North West opened at Manchester University NHS Foundation Trust in May 2021, enabling critically ill or injured babies, children and adults to be airlifted straight to Manchester University NHS Foundation Trust hospitals in Manchester city centre. It is believed that the landing site could allow as many as 300 patients to be airlifted to ORC hospitals each year.
H NHS Fleet Solutions In July, the NHS ordered 500 Nissan Leafs through its offshoot NHS Fleet Solutions. The electric vehicles are available to healthcare staff and as part of a leasing program via deferred compensation. The vehicles can be leased over a three-year period via deferred compensation. NHS Fleet Solutions is operated by Northumbria Healthcare NHS Foundation Trust and has facilitated the ordering of more than 75,000 vehicles for the NHS and other public sector organisations in the last 15 years.
H Oxford Health NHS Foundation Trust Oxford Health’s district and community nursing teams are taking part in a free trial of lower-emission pool cars to test ways that will help hit NHS national green targets and support the reduction of air pollution in communities. The teams have so far clocked up over 1,200 miles with 20 members of staff using the service hosted by Co-wheels. If the trial is a success, Oxford Health hopes to continue the use of pool cars, with the option to extend to other teams across the trust.
