Et lorsque l’on y est, on s’y sent forcément bien en n’y manquant ni des oﬀres très tendances pour le shopping, ni d’une large palette culinaire proposée par des restaurateurs tous très talentueux. Comment ne pas aimer Saint Barth et ses habitants toujours prompts à vous accueillir ? L’équipe du port de Gustavia en particulier se donne les moyens de recevoir les plus beaux méga-yachts du monde comme il se doit. Elle veille également au grain lors des innombrables régates qui se déroulent tout au long de l'année sur notre île, l’un des plus beaux plans d’eau du monde. Preuve en est de la qualité de son accueil : la confiance chaque fois renouvelée de tous nos visiteurs. Yes, in love, since it is not so simple to get to our little pearl… yet once you are here you savor every minute, aking advantage of the spectacular beaches, turquoise waters, breathtaking views, and of course, the latest trends in luxury shopping and a myriad of fine dining options offered by the island’s extremely talented chefs. How can you not love Saint Barth, where everyone readily welcomes you with open arms? Especially the staff at the Port of Gustavia, who expertly handle the most beautiful yachts in the world, both small, large and very, very large! The port staff also keeps a watchful eye on the numerous regattas that take place throughout the year in Saint Barth, where the sailing conditions are simply exceptional. Proof of the high quality of their service is seen in the fact that so many of our visitors return time after time. In this issue of Harbour, you’ll meet a few others who also love Saint Barth, such as skipper Ross Kleiman, or Bruce Brakenhoff of Perini Navi, who considers Saint Barth to be the most beautiful place on earth. The island of Saint Barthélemy, magic words that are the stuﬀ dreams are made of… but what would this island be without its crown jewel, The Port Of Gustavia, a popular harbor for thousands of visitors each year.

« Port d’excellence », sa notoriété n’est plus à faire, sa qualité d’accueil reconnue à travers le monde en fait « L’escale de rêve » par excellence, un endroit où jeter l’ancre devient magique. 2014 fut une fois de plus exceptionnelle. Les plus beaux bateaux du monde se sont côtoyés. Le baroudeur des mers y trouvait sa place entre Méga-Yachts et Grands voiliers. Beaucoup de propriétaires me disaient : « vous vivez et travaillez dans un paradis », « Encore merci pour votre accueil, c’est sûr, nous reviendrons l’hiver prochain !» Comme je vous l’ai dit, une année riche en qualité, entre régates et transats, pas moins de 7 évènements nautiques autour de la voile. Les Propriétaires, les équipages, les professionnels de la Voile ont l’impression d’être ici chez eux. L’île de Saint-Barthélemy est devenue une destination incontournable. Cette année, nous avons eu l’honneur de recevoir en plus, le rassemblement des propriétaires de bateaux « Fountaine-Pajot ». Pas moins de 20 unités se sont retrouvées durant 3 jours à Gustavia.

The excellent reputation of the port has been firmly established, and its high-quality service recognized on a worldwide basis. Anchoring in this port of dreams is truly a magical experience. 2014 was an exceptional year. Once again, some of the world’s most beautiful boats lined up at our docks, from mega yachts to magnificent sailboats. And a wide range of adventurers and world travelers consider the island their second home. Many of the owners have confided in me that they are convinced I live and work in a true paradise. They thank me for the warm welcome they enjoy, and say that they will be back again next winter, for sure. As I have noted, it was an exceptional year. From sailing regattas to the Transat, there were no less than seven nautical events at the port. Owners, crew, and sailing professionals all feel perfectly at home here. The island of Saint Barthélemy, its population, and its port are all part of a truly memorable destination. In 2014 we also had the honor of hosting a group of owners of Fountaine-Pajot catamarans from France. For three days there were 20 such boats at the dock in Gustavia.

Le navire doit être à jour de ses documents (papiers d’identification du navire et assurances). assurez-vous que toutes les personnes à bord sont munies des pièces d’identité nécessaires pour entrer sur le territoire de Saint-Barthélemy. appelez la capitainerie par VHF Canal 12 avant toute manœuvre. aucun navire de passage n'est autorisé à manœuvrer à quai et sur les bouées entre 17h00 et 07h00. Tout navire qui entre et sort du port doit emprunter le chenal d'accès. La vitesse maximale autorisée dans toute la zone portuaire est de 3 noeuds. La baignade, la pêche et tous les sports nautiques doivent s'eﬀectuer en dehors de la zone portuaire en respectant les règles propres à chaque activité. Des bacs sélectifs sont prévus pour le tri des ordures ménagères (verres et canettes directement dans le bac prévu et autres déchets dans un sac en plastique et dans les bacs). Les autres déchets doivent être déposés directement au service de propreté à Public. Les barbecues ne peuvent pas se faire sur les bateaux amarrés à quai ni sur les bouées. Pensez à ne pas déranger votre voisin avec le bruit (musique, travaux...).

All documents for the boat must be up-to-date (ID, registration, insurance...). Please be sure that all persons aboard have all necessary documents (ie: passport and visas...) required to enter the territory of St. Barthélemy. Call the harbormaster's oﬃce on VHF channel 12 before making any maneuvers. Boats are not authorized to maneuver at the dock or on buoys at night, between the hours of 5:00pm and 7:00am. All boats that enter and leave the port must use the access channel. The maximum speed allowed in the port zone is three knots. Swimming, fishing, and all nautical sports must take place outside of the port zone, respecting the appropriate rules for each activity. Household trash must be separated for recycling before left in the trash area on the dock (cans and bottles together in the container provided; all other trash in plastic bags then in containers provided). All other trash and large items must be taken directly to the incinerator in Public. BBQs cannot be used aboard boats anchored at the dock or on buoys. Try not to disturb your neighbors with too much noise (music, hammering, etc.). It is strictly forbidden to throw stagnant water from the hull of the boat into the harbor. We recommend that you shut oﬀ your radar. Only the captain of the vessel or a member of the crew is authorized to take care of entry and departure clearances.

With teammate Matthieu Vandame aboard Hotel Guanahani 2, Cammas proved his talents, beating such champions as Darren Bundock and Jeroen Van Leeuwen (Hotel Guanahani 1) who came in second, and brothers Emmanuel and Vincent Boulogne (Allianz Saint-Barth Assurances 1) who took third place.

Daily winners On Thursday, November 21, with calm seas and 15 knots of wind the duo of Darren Bundock and Jeroen Van Leeuwen, won the first day’s Design Aﬀairs Prize. On Friday, November 22, Franck Cammas and Matthieu Vandame found a steady rhythm that was the key to their final victory, winning the Allianz Saint-Barth Assurances Prize. Cette année le beau temps était au rendezvous, avec un ciel ensoleillé malgré quelques nuages à l’horizon et des vents stables avoisinant les 20 nœuds. Derrière la ligne de départ 14 bateaux étaient rassemblés, notamment Symmetry, le Frers yacht d’Abbot Brown, qui mesure environ 29 mètres et qui s’est montré le plus rapide pour ce tour de l’île eﬀectué en 2 heures, 1minute et 18 secondes.

Ross Kleiman à la barre Le skipper australien Ross Kleiman, capitaine de profession depuis vingt ans, a navigué sur Symmetry ces cinq dernières années. « Je faisais déjà des régates en australie lorsque j’étais jeune », assure-t-il en se remémorant la régate Sydney-Hobart. Comme il l’aﬃrme lui-même, la New Year’s Eve Parade « compte parmi mes meilleurs moments. J’adore pouvoir emmener à bord les jeunes du St Barth Yacht Club, qui est une association formidable, ainsi que les journalistes de l’île. C’est une régate conviviale autour de St Barth. » Kleiman aime également beaucoup naviguer à St Barth et a déjà participé à la Bucket à bord de Symmetry à cinq reprises. Ross Kleiman at the helm Australian skipper Ross Kleiman has been with Symmetry for five years, and a professional boat captain for the past two decades. “I raced as a kid in Australia,” he says, recalling the Sydney-Hobart race. Kleiman notes the New Year’s Eve Parade is “one of my favorite days. I really enjoy taking local kids from the St Barth Yacht Club, which is a terrific organization, and local media out with us. It’s a friendly island race.” Kleiman also enjoys sailing in Saint Barth, having raced in The Bucket five times with Symmetry. “There are diverse conditions,” he notes, “and wonderful vistas and scenery.” His crew for the New Year’s Eve Parade in 2013 included one of the race organizers, Mark Del Giudice, and president of the St Barth Yacht Club Benoit Meesemaecker. “I appreciate their local knowledge,” adds Kleiman, who plans on being back for the The Bucket in 2015, after Symmetry has a major refit in Maine. “It’s great to race for such a wonderful owner,” he says about Abbott Brown. “He is a terrific fellow.”

La troisième édition de cette compétition s’est déroulée du 31 Janvier au 2 Février 2014. antoine questel y a brillamment défendu son titre de champion obtenu l’année précédente, et a partagé le podium avec Taty Frans et alexandre Cousin. A local windsurfer, born in Saint Barth, Antoine Questel has risen through the ranks to become the French slalom champion in 2012 and 2103 and finish seventh in the 2013 Professional Windsurfers Association (PWA) overall rankings. He is also one of the founders and organizers of the Fun Cup, so he wears two hats throughout the event. But he puts his organizational duties aside to concentrate on his racing, and coupled with a home-court advantage, he won six out of eight races at the 2014 Fun Cup, successfully defending his win in 2013. Tout a commencé au Nantucket, une île idéale pour une Bucket. Cette régate qui connaît aujourd’hui une renommée internationale n’était en 1986 qu’une simple compétition amicale entre quelques grands voiliers. Alors que la Bucket a été inaugurée en 1995 avec seulement quatre voiliers concurrents, la 19e édition de la St Barth 96

Bucket qui s’est déroulée du 28 au 30 Mars 2014 comptait 38 magnifiques navires participants. Avec leurs grands mâts érigés vers le ciel, leur proue fendant les vagues et leur spi gonflé par le vent, les voiliers paradent royalement autour de l’île sous les rayons dorés du soleil tropical. La 20e édition aura lieu du 19 au 22 Mars 2015.

Back in 1986, a few big sailboats heading out for a little friendly competition, my how this race has grown. inaugurated in 1995 with fleet of just four boats, the 19th edition of the St Barth Bucket sailed on March 28-30, 2014, with 38 magnificent beauties on the starting line. masts pointing to the clouds, prows slicing through the waves, colorful spinnakers billowing in the wind, the boats parade regally around the island, as they race under the golden rays of the tropical sun. The 20th edition takes place March 19-22, 2015. 97

Marie en tête de la Bucket « il nous a fallu quatre ans pour remporter la Bucket, » déclare Ed Bosarge, le propriétaire de Marie, un ketch Vitters de 55 mètres qui a fait sa première apparition à la régate de 2011. Cette même année, Ed Bosarge avait fait amené quatre avions datant de la Seconde Guerre Mondiale pour un incroyable spectacle aérien. « Cela a été une aventure formidable, » ajoute-t-il. Grandement enthousiasmé par sa victoire, Bosarge a arrosé la foule d’un magnum de champagne Taittinger tandis qu’il acceptait son grand prix, arborant fièrement le fameux seau (bucket).

Cette régate unique au monde est essentiellement réservée aux yachts de plus de 30 mètres de long, qui sont divisés en 4 classes : Les Gazelles de la Mer, catégorie qui comprend 8 voiliers, dont le principal concurrent, le yacht Baltic Hetairos de 66,7 mètres ; Les Elégantes de la Mer avec 10 voiliers, Les Mademoiselles de la Mer avec 11 participants et les Grandes Dames de la Mer avec 9 voiliers. La sécurité en mer est l’une des principales préoccupations, néanmoins les conditions météorologiques étaient idéales, avec un ciel ensoleillé et 16 à 20 nœuds de vent durant les trois jours de régate.

Marie Takes The Bucket “It’s been a four-year ride to win The Bucket,” says Ed Bosarge, owner of Marie, a 180’ Vitters ketch that made its first appearance at the regatta in 2011, the same year that Bosarge brought four period WWII airplanes to The Bucket for an incredible air show. “It’s been a great journey,” he adds. Thrilled with his win, Bosarge sprayed a magnum of Taittinger champagne over the crowd as he accepted the grand prize, proudly holding “the bucket” over his head. This unique regatta is dedicated to yachts primarily over 100’ in length and divided into four classes: Les Gazelles de la Mer, with eight entries including the largest competitor, the 66.7 meter Baltic yacht, Hetairos; Les Elegantes de la Mer with 10 entries; Les Mademoiselles de la Mer with 11 entries; and Les Grandes Dames de la Mer with nine entries. Safety out on the water is a big concern, but the weather conditions were ideal with sunny skies, 16-20 knots of wind over the three days of racing. 99

In a dramatic finish on the last day of racing, the Perini Navi yacht, Clan VIII, finished a mere five seconds ahead of another Perini Navi yacht, Seahawk, in Les Grandes Dames class, preventing Seahawk from snatching the overall victory and allowing Altair to slip in and take the top spot in this class. All of this is part of the drama and excitement of The Bucket, one of the most regal regattas in the world.

SAILS INTO THE FUTURE WITH PERINI NAVI un homme d’affaire avisé Power broker Bruce Brakenhoff, directeur des opérations du prestigieux chantier naval Perini Navi aux Etats-unis, est l’un des hommes œuvrant pour le renom de cette entreprise. Brakenhoff travaille à Newport (Rodes island) en collaboration avec Perini Navi depuis que l’entreprise y a établi sa filiale américaine en 1997. Comme il l’explique lui-même, Brakenhoff était loin d’être novice dans l’industrie du yacht : « Mon père, Bruce Brakenhoff Senior, a été courtier de yachts durant 50 ans pour l’entreprise Bartram & Brakenhoff qu’il a fondé ». Brakenhoff a travaillé avec son père par intermittence, puis a travaillé pour Little Harbor Yacht Broker de 1994 à 1996, période durant laquelle il a réalisé la vente de deux nouveaux Perini Navi yachts. « J’ai passé beaucoup de temps avec l’équipe de Perini Navi, » affirme-t-il. « ils étaient à l’aise avec moi et nous somme devenus de proches amis. » C’est donc tout naturellement que le jeune courtier de yacht en est venu à représenter Perini Navi, devenant leur premier contact aux états-unis. One of the men behind the scenes—and the sails—of Perini Navi is Bruce Brakenhoff, who runs the prestigious Italian shipyard’s operations in the united States. Based in Newport, RI, Brakenhoff set sail with the company in 1997 when its American branch was launched. Brakenhoff was not a newcomer to the yachting industry by any means, and explains: “My father, Bruce Brakenhoff Sr., was a yacht broker for over 50 years with the company, Bartram & Brakenhoff, which he founded.” Brakenhoff worked for his father on and off, did a stint with Little Harbor Yacht Brokers from 1994-96, where he was involved in the sale of a couple of new Perini Navi yachts. “I spent a lot of time with the guys at Perini Navi,” he recalls. “They felt comfortable with me and we became very close friends.” It was a natural transition for the young yacht broker to represent Perini Navi and become their first point of contact in the uS. Almost 20 years later, Brakenhoff still proudly represents the Perini Navi stable and enjoys liaising with the boat owners. “There is usually an event in their lives when their clock tells them it’s time to buy a boat, like a big birthday or they sell their company,” he confides. “We take care of every detail from the sale to the design and build, from personalized details on one of our standard models, or a total custom package with a naval architect.”

The villa is like the Perini Navi club house,” notes Brakenhoff, emphasizing that Milena Perini, wife of owner Fabio Perini, is the company’s secret weapon in showing hospitality to their customers and friends.

At the 2014 Bucket, there were seven Perini Navi yachts, including the new launch, Seahawk, which won the Perini Navi Cup for best racing results at the regatta. “We love the camaraderie at the Bucket with the owners, clients, and friends,” adds Brakenhoff. “We bring in racing crews for this event and the boats get to use their big spinnakers. We also want to make sure the owners have fun and that the yachts are well sailed as well as safe. These are not usually racing boats, but that’s what makes the Bucket so special. Just participating is great, but if they win—they’re over the moon.” For Brakenhoff, “St Barth is our favorite place on earth. The people who live here make it special, and it’s intimate in a good way. LES VOILES DE ST BARTH À bord de son bateau Caol Ila R, Alex Schaerer a gagné pratiquement toutes les manches de la classe Maxi, raflant ainsi les honneurs et remportant chez lui la montre de plongée Richard Mille RM028, édition spéciale et limitée Les voiles de St Barth. Un souvenir formidable d’une régate qui s’est déroulée à St Barth et qui a attiré des concurrents de choix ainsi qu’un nombre de bateaux record, notamment le Rambler de George David et le Marten 72 Aragon de Verder van Nieuwland. La cinquième édition des voiles de St Barth a véritablement été spectaculaire. alex Schaerer won almost every race in the Maxi class, sailing aboard his Caol ila R, winning top honors and taking home the Richard Mille RM028 special edition “Les Voiles de St Barth” timepiece, one of a limited, numbered collection. what better souvenir of a regatta in St Barth that attracted a record number of boats, including such stiﬀ competition as George David’s Rambler, and the Marten 72 aragon, owned by Verder Van Nieuwland. The fifth annual Les Voiles de St Barth was indeed a memorable occasion.

Wow What Wind!

Les conditions météorologiques ont relevé du défi comme jamais auparavant durant Les voiles de St Barth. Les manches du mardi 15 et du mercredi 16 avril se sont déroulées sous un vent modéré alors que les deux derniers jours de navigation, vendredi 18 et samedi 19 avril, ont été accompagnés d’un fort vent de nord-ouest, avoisinant les 25 nœud, ce qui a représenté un véritable challenge pour tous les bateaux. De violentes rafales ont même brisé le mât du Bella Mente, qui régatait dans la classe Maxi, l’empêchant malheureusement de finir la compétition.

The weather conditions varied like never before during Les Voiles de Saint Barth. Racing on Tuesday and Wednesday, April 15 & 16 saw moderate winds, but the last two days of sailing on Friday and Saturday, April 18 & 19 experienced muscular winds that challenged the fleet, with winds from the east north-east at 25 knots. Even higher gusts brought winds that snapped the mast of Bella Mente, sadly taking this Maxi racer out of the competition.

Dans la classe Spinnaker 0, Near Miss n’a perdu qu’une seule manche, tandis que Jim Maddens, sur son J 125 Star Raving Mad, était le vainqueur de la classe Spinnaker 1. Dans la classe Spinnaker 2, la première place du podium est revenue de justesse à Jack Desmond qui naviguait sur aﬃnity, tandis que le Grand Soleil 43 Ramanessin remportait les quatre manches de la semaine, arrivant ainsi premier dans la classe Spinnaker 3. Le guadeloupéen Thierry Lefort a remporté la victoire sur les Melges 24, alors que le trimaran de Swede Calle Hennix, Seacart 26, était champion de la classe multicoque. Enfin le catamaran prototype « fabriqué au québec » Le Carré Lounge, a décroché une troisième place bien méritée.

The winners in each of the nine classes proved their mettle in all types of conditions. In the Spinnaker 0 class, Near Miss only lost one race, while in the Spinnaker 1 class, Jim Madden’s J-125 Stark Raving Mad was the winner. Partis de Concarneau en France, ils sont arrivés à Saint Barth après 22 jours, 6 heures, 17 minutes et 59 secondes de régate au cœur de l’atlantique et ont amplement savouré leur victoire.

There was great excitement in Gustavia on Monday, April 28, 2014 as the first boat in the 12th edition of La Transat AG2R La Mondiale was expected to cross the finish line at about lunchtime. At 1:17pm, a small Figaro Beneteau sailboat appeared in the port, surrounded by a flotilla of local boats, blaring horns and music, to welcome sailors Gwénolé Gahinet and Paul Meilhat aboard Safran–Guy Cotten. After 22 days, 6 hours, 17 minutes, and 59 seconds of racing across the Atlantic from Concarneau, France to Saint Barth, their victory was ever so sweet!

une transat bisannuelle Les participants de la régate transatlantique bisannuelle, La Transat aG2R, prennent la mer sur des quillards monotypes Figaro Beneteau ii et chaque concurrent doit calculer au mieux sa trajectoire. L’absence de vent a ralenti les voiliers passant par le nord et certains champions, comme Michel Desjoyeaux qui a gagné cette régate en 1992 et Jean le Cam, également un ancien vainqueur de l’aG2R, se sont retrouvés parmi les derniers et non en tête de cette régate comme on aurait pu s’y attendre. La cérémonie de remise des prix s’est déroulée dans la soirée du vendredi 2 Mai... et l’on faisait déjà des projets pour la prochaine Transat aG2R de 2016.

Every Two Years A transatlantic regatta every two years, La Transat AG2R sets sail on identical Figaro Beneteau II single-hull sailboats, so every sailor has to make perfect calculations. The boats that took the northern route were hampered by a serious lack of wind, putting such stalwarts as Michel Desjoyeaux, who won this race in 1992, and Jean Le Cam, also a former winner of the AG2R, at the back of the pack rather than the front as expected. The awards ceremony was held on Friday evening May 2… and plans were already being made to compete again in 2016.

alexis andrews is a man with a mission: to keep the traditional art of Caribbean boat building alive. One of his tools is the west indies Regatta, which takes place in Saint Barth every year on the first weekend in May, with traditional wooden boats commemorating the great days of trading by sail between the islands. 2014 marked the sixth anniversary of this charming event, with the seventh edition planned for april 30-May 3, 2015.

Des schooners et des sloops La west indies Regatta de 2014 a été gagnée par Zemi, un sloop Carriacou, suivi de près par Summer Cloud qui a remporté la seconde place, puis par Savy qui a décroché la troisième marche du podium. Parmi les participants figurait le schooner Scaramouche, qui arrive d’union, l’une des îles des Grenadines. Scaramouche est l’un des deux derniers schooners qui était chargé du commerce à l’origine. Genesis ainsi que le nouveau sloop Exodus, qui a été inauguré l’année dernière, étaient également présent. Exodus a d’ailleurs était le sujet du film d’andrew « Vanishing Sail », qui sera projeté à St Barth lors du Festival du film de 2015, qui coïncidera avec la soirée d’ouverture de la west indies Regatta. Le Marché artisanal présenté dans le port de Gustavia oﬀre une variété de produits locaux, notamment des produits biologiques arrivant de Dominique et transportés sur l’alexander Hamilton, un Schooner Nevis. un grand merci à la Collectivité de Saint Barth, à la Capitainerie de Gustavia, à l’Oﬃce du tourisme, au club uNESCO et à tous ceux qui se sont investis dans cette régate traditionnelle.

Schooners and sloops The 2014 Regatta was won by the Carriacou sloop, Zemi, followed closely by Summer Cloud in second place and Savvy in third, with the fleet including the schooner Scaramouche from union Island in the Grenadines—one of only two original working trading schooners left. Also competing were Genesis and the new sloop, Exodus, launched last year and the subject Andrew’s film “Vanishing Sail” which will be screening at the 2015 St. Barth Film Festival to coincide with the opening night of the Regatta. The Artisanal Market on the dock showcases regional products, such as organic produce from Dominica, arriving on the Nevis built Schooner, Alexander Hamilton. Le pilote des Caraïbes Mark Elliott, courtier et consultant dans le domaine des yachts, dispose d’une arme secrète, un hydravion Cessna 185 dont il se sert pour voyager d’îles en îles, pour faire la navette entre les yachts et ses clients. « Je peux amerrir juste à côté des yachts, dans pratiquement chaque mouillage et à proximité d’une station de taxi. » aﬃrme Elliott, qui travaille comme consultant et comme courtier pour l’entreprise international Yacht Collection. En hiver il dirige les bureaux de l’entreprise à St Martin et vole en direction de Newport, Rhodes island et Monaco en été.

« Je me sers de l’hydravion comme d’un outil divertissant pour emmener les clients jusqu’à nos yachts de charter, pour établir des contrats de vente ou de charter ou même pour livrer des pièces de rechange, » explique Elliott, tout en précisant que son hélicoptère a les mêmes fonctions mais que peu de yachts disposent d’un héliport. avec ses flotteurs amphibies en fibre de verre résistant à l’eau de mer, l’hydravion six places est basé à St Barth l’hiver (l’une des îles où paradoxalement l’amerrissage dans le port est interdit.). « Je reste dans les Caraïbes de Décembre jusqu’à Mai. Je travaille la moitié de la semaine à St Martin avec les capitaines et les équipages et je passe de longs weekends à St Barth, où viennent séjourner les propriétaires de yachts, » aﬃrme-t-il. « Je pourrais aussi bien les rencontrer en costard cravate à New York qu’au Niki Beach ou à La Plage autour d’un verre. L’atmosphère détendue des Caraïbes est tellement plus agréable ! » Depuis son adolescence, Eliott s’est révélé être un pilote motivé. « J’ai commencé à laver des avions à 12 ans, et à piloter à 13 », nous confie-t-il. « Le fait que l’hydravion soit basé à St Barth et que les bureaux se trouvent à St Martin représente un véritable avantage. Je peux me déplacer en un rien de temps et oﬀrir ainsi les meilleurs services à mes clients. Par ailleurs, plonger près de l’hydravion pour attraper des langoustes est aussi une expérience fantastique. Grâce a son nouvel équipage qui vient s’ajouter aux employés de St Martin, iYC est la seule entreprise à pouvoir fournir à plein temps un service de charter et de vente de yachts dans les Caraïbes. « Nous voulons être au même endroit que nos clients pour répondre à leurs besoins », déclare Elliott, qui apprécie ses clients et adore St Barth. « une île unique au monde, des restaurants formidables, des boutiques de qualité et des plages comme on n’en trouve nulle part ailleurs. Flying high Yacht consultant/broker Mark Elliott has a secret weapon, a Cessna185 seaplane he uses to hop from island to island, yacht to yacht, client to client. “I can land at most any anchorage and taxi right next to the yacht,” says Elliott, who serves as a broker and consultant for International Yacht Collection, running the St Maarten oﬃce in the winter, and heading to Newport, RI, and Monaco in the summer. “I use the seaplane as a fun tool, to take clients to any boat in our charter fleet, deliver contracts for sale or charter, or even spare parts,” Elliott explains, noting that his helicopter is a similar tool, but not that many yachts have helipads. With its amphibious floats made of fiberglass impervious to salt water, the six-seater Cessna is based in St Barth in the winter (ironically one of the islands where landing in the harbor is prohibited). “I am based in the Caribbean from December through May, spending mid-week in the oﬃce in St Maarten working with captains and crews, then long weekends in St Barth where the owners cruise,” he notes. “I could meet them in New

York wearing a suit and tie, or for a drink at Nikki Beach or La Plage. The relaxed atmosphere in the Caribbean is much better!” Elliott has been an avid pilot since he was a teenager. “I started washing planes at the age of 12, and flying at 13,” he recalls. “The seaplane being based in St Barth, with the oﬃce in St Maarten really gives me an edge, I am out there in the thick of it, providing the best possible service to my clients. And diving from the plane to catch lobsters is pretty cool.” With the addition of a new crew placement division in St Maarten, IYC is the only full-service, large yacht sales and charter company in the Caribbean. “We want to be where our clients are and be able to meet their needs,” says Elliott, who like his clients, loves St Barth: “A first-world island, great restaurants, great shopping for clothing and there is nothing like the beaches! Like the T-shirt says, “I feel free in St Barth.” I drive around on a scooter or in an electric car and feel as if the island is my private playground.” 137

Sur les sites de plongée, les bouées blanches sont réservées aux bateaux à moteur de moins de 15m et d’un poids inférieur à 10t, pour une durée maximum de 2h30. Le respect de la limitation de vitesse à 5 nœuds, garantit la quiétude des lieux et la sécurité de nos randonneurs palmés. Vous pouvez vous adonner aux plaisirs de la pêche à la ligne depuis la côte ou à bord d’une embarcation à la dérive dans les zones de protection simple de la Réserve Naturelle. Seule la randonnée palmée est autorisée dans les zones de protection renforcée. En dehors des zones protégées de la Réserve Naturelle, le respect des tailles de capture permet aux espèces d’atteindre leur maturité reproductive, garantissant ainsi la pérennité de la biodiversité marine. Certaines techniques de pêche sont également plus conservatrices. ainsi, la langouste, met très apprécié, est capturée uniquement à l’aide d’un lasso. a savoir, la taille minimale de capture pour la langouste royale est de 21 cm, contre 14 cm pour la langouste brésilienne, et se mesure de la pointe du rostre à l’extrémité de la queue. La chasse sous marine est soumise à des règles obligatoires de sécurité, mais reste interdite en bouteille. Prenez garde, nos espèces ne sont pas toutes comestibles. La pêche au lambi est réservée aux marins-pêcheurs professionnels, en dehors de la période de reproduction. La pratique des sports tractés et du jet ski est autorisée à l’extérieur des sites protégés, dans les baies protégées ils doivent rester à bord des bateaux. L’agence de l’Environnement est aujourd’hui en charge de la gestion de la ressource marine dans les eaux territoriales de Saint-Barthélemy. Natural beauty secrets To preserve the beauty and natural resources of Saint Barth’s protected zones, sailors are requested to follow a few simple rules. In the protected bays of Forchue and Colombier, there are buoys that should be used for mooring. These are accessible to boats under 65’ in length, under 25 tons, and boat owners are responsible for their usage. Anchors can be used outside of the zones where buoys are provided. A maximum stay of seven days is authorized, either on a buoy or at anchor. At our dive sites, the white buoys are reserved for motorboats shorter than 50’, under 10 tons, and for a maximum stay of 2.5 hours. One must also respect a speed limit of five knots to maintain the tranquility of these sites and the security of swimmers or snorkelers. You can enjoy the pleasure of line fishing on the shore or aboard a drifting boat in the protected zones of the Réserve Naturelle. Only swimming with fins is authorized in those zones with the highest level of protection (no fishing, scuba diving, anchoring, or commercial activity is permitted). Outside of the zones protected by the Réserve Naturelle, the catching of fish over a certain size allows species to reach their reproductive maturity, thus guaranteeing the sustainability of our marine biodiversity. Certain fishing techniques are also encouraged to reduce overfishing. For example, our tasty local lobsters can only be caught by use of a lasso. And they cannot be captured if less than eight inches long for a royal lobster, and the Brazilian lobsters must be a least 5.5” long, measuring from the point of the rostrum to the extremity of the tail. underwater hunting is regulated and illegal with the use of air tanks. Please take note, not all local species of fish are safe to eat. Conch fishing is reserved for professional fishermen, and only outside of the mollusk’s reproductive period. Sports such as water skiing and jet skis are authorized outside of the regulated sites and not in the protected bays. The island’s Environmental Agency has taken over the management of all marine resources in the territorial waters of Saint Barthélemy.
