GRACE E Named Motor Yacht of the Year at the World Superyacht Awards in 2015, Grace E measures 239.50’ (73 meter) and was built by the Picchiotti shipyard in 2014. The stylish exteriors are by French naval architect Philippe Briand, with contemporary interiors designed by Remi Tessier. Grace E is an all-around winner, taking home a number of additional prizes for exterior design, interior design, and eco-technology.

The exterior teak deck extends into the spacious salon, adding a nautical touch to the white and beige interiors, where elegant furniture and timeless design provide the ultimate in comfort. hile some islands boast of dozens of beaches, Saba only has one that appears a few months a year. The design duo of Tina Green and Pietro Mingarelli created the exterior lines as well as the impressive interior decor, which combines luxury with comfort throughout. Balinese influences can be seen in coconut and mother of pearl accents on exterior deck furniture, while the interiors sparkle with Lalique crystal, parchment, and silk. There is even a wooden Buddha for inspiration. Green and Mingarelli used over 480 Lalique crystals in the interiors of Illusion V, carrying a rose motif onto the floors, the ceiling, and the walls, as Green often starts the design process with a floral image. In spite of such elegance in the design, Illusion V is an extremely comfortable yacht, providing a true home away from home for the owner while at sea.

A Race with a History It began in the1960s. English Harbour in Antigua was a leading yachting capital of the Caribbean. Beautiful charter boats were on the horizon and ready for a race to mark the end of the season. From those first loosely organized races, the Antigua Sailing Week emerged in 1967, when the majority of the yachts were classics. Eventually, modern yachts outnumbered them and the result was the Antigua Classic Yacht Regatta, launched in 1987 with just seven boats. Tout commence dans les années 60. English Harbour à Antigua est alors l’une des capitales du yachting de la mer des Caraïbes. De magnifiques bateaux à louer jalonnent l’horizon, prêts à participer à une course pour marquer la fin de la saison. L’Antigua Sailing Week naît de ces courses peu organisées en 1967, alors que les yachts classiques constituent la majorité des bateaux. The classic yachts were now firmly back in the spotlight. In 1991, Elizabeth Meyer brought her newly refitted Endeavour, and Baron Edmond Rothschild brought his 6meter Spirit of St Kitts, boats that added to the glamour of the regatta. In 1996 the Spirit of Tradition Class was added, for “new” classics, built along the lines of the old, a chance to sail alongside their sister ships. 1999 saw the first race between the J class yachts in 60 years. Puis, les yachts classiques reviennent sur le devant de la scène. Celebrating its 36th edition on March 3-6, 2016, the Heineken Regatta made waves. The regatta set sail with the 10th annual Gill Commodoreâ&#x20AC;&#x2122;s Cup, with its largest fleet to date, comprising 84 yachts. For the official three-day Heineken Regatta, there were 193 yachts, an impressive number for a Caribbean regatta. With four different courses, the racing was challenging for the various classes, from Maxi yachts and multi-hulls to the spinnaker classes, bareboats, and beach cats.

La 36e édition de la Heineken Regatta, qui a eu lieu du 3 au 6 mars 2016, a fait des vagues. Le coup de départ de la régate fut donné avec la 10e Gill Commodore’s Cup et un nombre record de 84 participants. Les trois jours de course officielle de la Heineken Regatta virent s’affronter 193 yachts, un chiffre impressionnant pour une régate dans les Caraïbes. Avec quatre parcours différents, la course relevait du défi pour toutes les classes, des yachts Maxi et multicoques aux spinnakers et bateaux de location, en passant par les catas de plage.

With almost ideal sailing conditions, there were a lot of close finishes, with results determined in the last race for almost every class. With 13 yachts, the CSA 3 class saw Philippe Charret’s A40, Lipton, and Richard Wesslund’s J/122 El Ocaso tied going into the last race. El Ocaso took the race and was honored for the Most Worthy Performance in the regatta. Peter Harrison’s British TP52, Sorcha dominated the Maxi 1 Class, class, taking overall victory in the Round St. Maarten Race. Irvine Laidlaw’s British RP82, Highland Fling X1, was second, while setting a new mono-hull course record for the Round St. Maarten Race of 2 hours, 12 minutes and 32 seconds. Les conditions de navigation quasiment idéales ont donné lieu à des arrivées serrées, les résultats finaux étant dictés par la dernière manche dans presque toutes les classes. Forte de 13 yachts, la classe CSA 3 vit Lipton, l’A40 de Philippe Charret et El Ocaso, le J/122 de Richard Wesslund prendre de départ de la dernière manche à égalité. El Ocaso l’emporta et se vit décerner le Most Worthy Performance de la régate. Sorcha, le TP 52 britannique de Peter Harrison a dominé la classe Maxi 1 et s’est adjugé la première place du classement général du Tour de Saint Martin. Highland Fling X1, le RP82 britannique d’Irvine Laidlaw, est arrivé second pulvérisant au passage le record du Tour de Saint Martin chez les monocoques en 2 heures, 12 minutes et 32 secondes.

Another record-setter was Lloyd Thornburg's American MOD70, Phaedo3, proving once again that this high-tech multihull is a speed demon. Hitting speeds of well over 30 knots, Phaedo’s ballistic form secured the Multihull 1 Class with straight wins and an astonishing lap of St. Maarten in 1 hour, 19 minutes and 59 seconds. “We had a fabulous ride, it was wild and right on the limit of holding the J1 and the full main, so we had all the sails in the air. It was pretty exciting finding a lane upwind after rounding Plum Point as we passed a large number of the Bareboats, down the windward side of the island we were doing 30-35 knots and occasionally 37 knots, it was one of the best rides we have ever had on Phaedo3,” commented Lloyd Thornburg. Avec des pointes bien au-delà de la barre des 30 nœuds, la forme aérodynamique de Phaedo lui a assuré la victoire dans la classe Multicoques 1 avec des manches remportées sans difficulté et un incroyable tour de Saint Martin bouclé en 1 heure, 19 minutes et 59 secondes. “Nous avons fait une course fabuleuse, c’était de la folie, nous avons atteint les limites du J1 et de la grand voile, toutes les voiles étaient donc déployées. C’était plutôt excitant que de trouver un couloir pour remonter au vent après Plum Point et de doubler un grand nombre de bareboats. Le long de la côte au vent de l’île, nous avons fait du 30-35 nœuds, voire parfois du 37 nœuds. C’était l’une des meilleures sorties sur Phaedo3”, se réjouit Lloyd Thornburg.

“The weather that St Barth delivered this year was nothing short of spectacular,” says race chairman Peter Craig, about the 2016 Bucket Regatta, which set sail on March 18-20. “Wind ranging from 14-20 knots, and building gradually race day to race day is a tailor-made three days for super yachts. Sunshine and no rain only added to what many deemed “perfect conditions.” “Cette année, la météo à Saint Barthélemy a été absolument spectaculaire”, se souvient le directeur de la course Peter Craig au sujet de la Bucket 2016 qui s’est tenue du 18 au 20 mars. “Des vents de 14-20 nœuds, qui se sont renforcés au fil de la régate, constituaient une condition idéale pour les super-yachts. The only downside to mother nature that he saw was the “excessive surge and swell in the port of Gustavia, which precluded yachts from being dockside at the République and Wall House docks. The main dock had slightly less surge and hence there was a wonderful display of six yachts whose owners were kind enough to open their doors for the traditional Yacht Hop on Saturday evening,” Craig explains. New Bucket innovations this year were met with near universal praise by the owners, guests and crews: “The race committee introduced many new course options this year—courses that challenged crews with their sail handling and afterguards with strategy and tactics, notes Craig. “Some courses brought the racing closer than ever to the people of St Barth, particularly with new “Mark W” in the Bay of St Jean. This resulted in fantastic race viewing on Friday and Sunday and Bucket themed parties at the well known establishments on the Bay, functions will likely grow in popularity over the next few years.” Les innovations présentées lors de cette édition de la Bucket ont été saluées quasiment unanimement par les propriétaires, les invités et les équipages : “Le comité de course a introduit de nombreuses nouvelles options d’itinéraire cette année ; des itinéraires qui ont forcé les équipages à passer en revue toutes les manœuvres de voiles et la cellule arrière à opter pour la bonne stratégie et les bonnes tactiques”, détaille Peter Craig. “Certains itinéraires ont fait passer la course plus près que jamais du littoral, pour le plus grand bonheur de la population de Saint Barthélemy, notamment grâce à la nouvelle “marque W” dans la baie de St Jean. The racing this year was more competitive than ever, according to Craig: The new ORCsy haindicap rule and logical class breaks made for close racing with tiebreakers in many cases determining the class winners. The new Unfurled was the deserving winner of Les Gazelles class and the overall winner of the 2016 Bucket. Côté course, Peter Craig estime que la bataille était plus acharnée que jamais auparavant : la nouvelle règle de handicap et de classes a donné lieu à des courses très disputées et à la nécessité d’avoir recours, à plusieurs reprises, à des bris d’égalité pour déterminer les vainqueurs des différentes classes. Craig reports that the buzz has already started for the 30th anniversary Bucket regatta, counting from the first Nantucket Bucket, held in 1986, with the first St Barth Bucket in 1995. “We fully expect a special turnout of the world's finest sailing super yachts including a many as eight J Class yachts which will be preparing for their 2017 worlds championships later in the year. There never have been more than five J Class yachts on one starting line in history.” Peter Craig indique que le 30 e anniversaire de la Bucket suscite d’ores et déjà l’enthousiasme et célébrera la première Nantucket Bucket organisée en 1986, tandis que la première St Barth Bucket s’est tenue en 1995. “Nous nous attendons à une fréquentation accrue avec la venue de la fine crème des super-yachts, avec pas moins de huit classes J qui viendront se préparer pour leurs championnats du monde 2017 un peu plus tard dans l’année. Located at 63°3' W and 18°7' N in the north of the island and looking out towards Anguilla, sits the pleasure port of Anse Marcel. The marina was created in 1986 when Grand Étang was opened to the sea. The geographical situation of the Anse Marcel Marina makes it the ideal starting point for an easy cruise to Saint Barth, Anguilla, Pinel Island, Tintamarre, Prickly Pear, or Dog Island. The principal entry to the Lagoon is via a drawbridge that opens regularly despite its position on a busy roadway. Recently, major work was undertaken to widen the bridge, allowing the largest of the mega-yachts access to the marinas. Clearance formalities take place at the police and immigration office located at the entry to the lagoon.

The Simpson Bay Causeway is a new bridge connecting Juliana Airport and the east bank of the Simpson Bay Lagoon. With a span of 760 meters, it is the only swing bridge in the Caribbean, and supports two lanes of traffic and walkways on both sides. The two feeder roads are connected to the existing roads by round abouts.

Le Simspon Bay Causeway est un nouveau pont tournant qui relie l’aéroport de Juliana à la côte est du lagon de Simpson Bay. Avec une portée de 760 mètres, il s’agit de l’unique pont tournant des Caraïbes. Ce nouveau pont comporte deux voies de circulation ainsi qu’un passage piéton de chaque coté.
