ARAZZI D’ARTE ART TAPESTRIES Picasso e Sonia Delaunay, Fanny Viollet, Louise Bourgeois, Patrice Hugues e Eko Nugroho: artisti tutti che si sono espressi anche attraverso l’arazzo. Una mostra davvero interessante è quella che il Musée Jean Lurçat di Angers propone fino al 31 ottobre: Tapisseries?

L’arazzo, fino al secondo dopoguerra, era conservatore nella sua realizzazione tra trame che si vedono e orditi che rimangono nascosti e che seguono un disegno prestabilito. Negli Anni 60 si è sviluppata una nuova maniera che permette di creare l’opera direttamente sul supporto tessile applicandovi fibre e materiali diversi. Una rivoluzione! Tutto questo è da ammirare nell’esposizione a Angers.

Picasso and Sonia Delaunay, Fanny Viollet, Louise Bourgeois, Patrice Hugues e Eko Nugroho: all artists who have expressed themselves through tapestry. A very interesting exhibition is the one that the musée Jean Lurçat in Angers proposes until October 31st: Tapisseries?

The tapestry, until the second post World War II, was conservative in its realization among clear woofs and hidden warps and following a pre-arranged drawing. In the ‘60s a new system was developed that allowed the realization of the work directly on the textile support applying on it different materials and fibres. A revolution! All this is displayed in the exhibition in Angers.

È il calendario Pirelli, pubblicato per la prima volta nel 1964, e diventato nel tempo una leggenda glamour. Bellezze come top model e attrici hanno posato per i 12 mesi Pirelli per i più grandi fotografi di sempre. Taschen gli dedica un volume “Pirelli. The Cal - 50 Years and More” con una prefazione del curatore Philippe Daverio e foto inedite di backstage.

Twelve months of feminine beauty celebrated every year for fifty years now with the work of exceptional photographers, models and locations. Sexy and intriguing after half a century. It is the Pirelli Calendar, published for the first time in 1964, and become over time a glamour legend. Beauties like top models and actresses posed for the Pirelli’s 12 months for the greatest photographers ever. Taschen has dedicated to it a volume “Pirelli. The Cal - 50 Years and More”, with a preface by the curator Philippe Daverio and unpublished backstage photographs.

Il FIT di New York dedica all’iconica Susanne Bartsch, regina della nightlife newyorkese negli anni Ottanta con il suo locale “Copacabana” una mostra in cui sarà possibile non solo ripercorrere quegli anni stardust indimenticabili, ma soprattutto i look iperbolici creati per lei da stilisti come John Galliano, Jean Paul Gaultier, Stephen Jones e tanti altri. Anni di party in cui Susanne Bartsch riuscì a mixare subculture urbane nascenti e affermate, spingendosi sempre coraggiosamente al limite di tutto. La mostra resterà in cartellone fino al prossimo 5 dicembre 2015.

The FIT of New York is dedicating to the iconic Susanne Bartsch, queen of the ‘80s New York nightlife with her place “Copacabana”, an exhibition where it will be possible to recall not only the unforgettable stardust years, but above all the hyperbolic looks created for her by fashion designers as John Galliano, Jean Paul Gaultier, Stephen Jones and many more. Years of parties where Susanne Bartsch was able to mix up fresh and established urban subcultures, always leading fearlessly to the limits of everything. The exhibition will be on until December 5th 2015.

Sculptor of the hexagonal forms, the Dutch creator Ilja Visser has imagined new origami for new butterflies or ancient chrysalids. Every fold heightens a garment that later becomes gesture and then sense. The measures here become dismeasures.

HAUTE COUTURE, DI MADRE IN FIGLIA Haute Couture, from mother to daughter di SANDRA RONDINI

Raccontano di quando, ancora bambine, con le loro madri e tate al seguito viaggiavano tra Roma e Parigi, di atelier in atelier, per acquistare dai più famosi couturier del tempo il guardaroba di stagione che sarebbe servito per tutte le occasioni più importanti che le attendevano durante i mesi a venire.

Inaugurazioni, feste, cerimonie o eleganti pranzi nei circoli più esclusivi della città, magari a fianco del papà, anche lui sempre vestito con abiti su misura, con la camicia con le iniziali ricamate in bella vista e ai piedi scarpe inglesi perché “è dalle scarpe che si riconosce il signore”.

Le madri vestivano per lo più Dior e Chanel, ma anche Balenciaga e Lanvin, senza rinunciare a un tocco di Dolce Vita di quegli anni, con le Sorelle Fontana, Emilio Pucci, Valentino, Schubert... Si partiva con al seguito grandi bauli in pelle, stracolmi di abiti per partecipare alle colazioni, soirèe e gran balli in programma nel fitto calendario della stagione mondana per poi far ritorno a casa con nuovi abiti da sogno da sfoggiare come fossero gioielli davanti agli occhi del bel mondo. La meta principe era Parigi, la capitale mondiale della haute couture. Prima destinazione Avenue Montaigne, da Monsieur Christian Dior, con le sue sfolgoranti creazioni da New Look per poi conoscere e ammirare il suo successore, il timido Yves Saint Laurent, più rigoroso ed eclettico, ma dotato di una fantasia e di un buongusto senza pari, come anche lo ieratico e compassato Balenciaga, con i suoi abiti dal design monacale e austero, quasi inquietanti nella loro altera bellezza. Dalla Rive Gauche a via Veneto per queste nobildonne e aristocratiche il salto era breve: come rinunciare al sempre più potente e glamorous richiamo della Città Eterna e le sue eleganti boutique incastonate come diamanti all’interno dei più sfarzosi palazzi del Cinquecento e Seicento romano? Gli abiti a Roma avevano tutt’altri tagli, lunghezze, stampe...era un altro mondo, impossibile da dimenticare. Un autentico sogno che oggi, quelle bambine di un tempo, raccontano con nostalgia a chi chiede loro cosa significasse davvero l’alta moda un tempo e cosa significhi oggi per loro. Per chi ha avuto la fortuna di avere a propria disposizione premiere e sarte che su misura realizzavano il modello da loro tanto desiderato, un modello che aveva un numero e un nome evocativo negli eleganti defilès cui gli stilisti le invitavano, vivere oggi l’alta moda è quasi una sfida con la memoria, una corda tesa tra i ricordi della grandeur di un tempo e un presente in cui tocca accettare e comprendere che tutto è destinato a passare e mutare e non per forza in peggio. Atelier meravigliosi di haute couture fanno ancora sognare le clienti che hanno la fortuna di potervi entrare ed accomodarsi in salottini sfarzosi, in attesa di incontrare lo stilista e discutere con lui non più forse del guardaroba di stagione, ma dei capi cult della sua collezione, alla ricerca dell’abito perfetto che le faccia sentire sempre bellissime.

E se un po’ di nostalgia prevale in queste figlie della grande stagione della haute couture mondiale non resta loro che indossare, nelle serate più esclusive, come una Prima alla Scala, tra gli occhi ammirati di tutti, meravigliosi capi vintage senza tempo di Maestri insuperabili come Capucci, magari appartenuti alle loro madri e rendere così omaggio a un passato che non vuole e non deve passare. Perché “la moda passa, lo stile resta” diceva Coco Chanel e nulla definisce meglio queste figlie della stagione d’oro dell’alta moda il cui stile, impeccabile e raffinato, non è mai cambiato e mai passerà.

They tell us how, when they were little girls, together with their mothers and nannies following along, they travelled from Rome to Paris, from atelier to atelier to buy from the most famous couturiers of the time the wardrobe of the season which would have served for all the most important occasions that awaited them in the months to come. Openings, parties, ceremonies or elegant banquets in the most exclusive clubs of the city, perhaps next to their fathers, also dressed with tailor made suits, with a shirt with the initials embroidered in plain sight and wearing British shoes because “you can tell a man by his shoes”. Mothers wore mostly Dior and Chanel, but also Balenciaga and Lanvin, not renouncing to a touch of the Dolce Vita of those times, with the Sorelle Fontana, Emilio Pucci, Valentino, Schubert... They would leave with big leather trunks, packed with clothes to attend lunches, soirées and grand balls programmed in the full agenda of the season and got back home with new dreamy garments to show off as if they were jewels in front of the society.

The main destination was Paris, the haute couture capital of the world. First stop Avenue Montaigne, to Monsieur Christian Dior, with his New Look dazzling creations proceeding to meet and admire his successor, the shy Yves Saint Laurent, more rigorous and eclectic, but gifted with fantasy and an unparalleled good taste as well as the hieratic and formal Balenciaga, with his sober and monastic clothes almost disquieting in their proud beauty. For these aristocratic noblewomen, from the Rive Gauche to Via Veneto it was a short step: how could they give up the glamorous and always more powerful call of the Eternal City and its elegant boutiques set as diamonds into the most luxurious palaces of the 16th and 17th century? Dresses in Rome had complete different cuts, lengths, patterns...it was a whole other world impossible to forget. An authentic dream that today, those little girls, tell with nostalgia to those who ask them what really meant high fashion at that time and what it means today. For those who had the luck to have at their disposal premières and tailors that created tailor made clothes on a model that they chose, a model that had its own number and an evocative name during the elegant defilés where the designers invited them, to live high fashion today is almost a challenge with memory, a tense rope among the recollections of the grandeur of the past and a present where they have to understand and accept that everything is destined to pass and change but not necessarily in worse.

Marvellous haute couture ateliers still make the customers who are lucky enough to get in dream, sitting in sumptuous lounges, waiting to meet the fashion designer and discuss with him not even the season wardrobe but the cult pieces of his collection, looking for the perfect dress that makes them feel gorgeous.

And if a little nostalgia prevails on these daughters of the great season of the world haute couture they just have to wear, in the most exclusive nights, like the Première at La Scala, among everybody’s admiring eyes, marvellous vintage garments, perhaps belonging to their mothers, of incomparable Masters like Capucci, to pay a tribute to a past that does not and must not pass.

Because as Coco Chanel used to say “fashion changes but style endures” and nothing defines better these daughters of the golden season of high fashion whose flawless and refined style has never changed and never will.

Ma chi l’ha detto che il rosa shocking, meglio conosciuto dai più come rosa fucsia sia appannaggio esclusivo di Elsa Schiaparelli? Re Giorgio lo ha voluto sottolineare con la sua collezione nella quale le sfumature dei colori che vanno dal verde al viola, dal blu lapislazzuli al rosso hanno tutte una base fucsia. Sempre però contrastata, la base, col nero.

Insomma, Armani Privé che ha abituato il mondo intero con le sue gamme di una tavolozza neutra, stavolta esplode e sconcerta. A suo dire, voleva un insieme che fosse astratto, un puro gioco di design, dimentico della forma del corpo.

Le scintille che ogni capo emana sono un mix incredibile di ricami realizzati con fili di lamé e cristalli Swarovski su tessuti nuovi e sorprendenti: fili di seta e di ciniglia o di jacquard che creano frange inedite. Le piume applicate su giacche iper-sciancrate e dalle spalle napoletane pronunciate, si sposano a meraviglia con abiti da sera – quasi inesistenti le mise da giorno o da cocktail – dalle forme sinuose ed estremamente eleganti. A complemento dell’abito, borsettegioiello, orecchini a pendaglio rotondo un po’ disco e sandali senza tacco, danno quel giusto tocco nel quale tutto è così calibrato, così giusto per dare una ventata di gioventù ed energia alla celebre maison milanese.

Who said that shocking pink, better know as pink fuchsia, is an exclusive prerogative of Elsa Schiaparelli? King George emphasised it with his collection, where the shades of colours from green to violet and blu lapis lazuli to red have all a fuchsia basis. But the basis is always contrasted with black.

Armani Privé, which got the whole world used to its ranges of a neutral palette, this time explodes and biwilders. In his opinion, he wanted an abstract set, a pure play of design, forgetting the body shape. The sparks emanating from every garment are an incredible mixture of embroideries made by using lamé and Swarovski crystals on new and surprising fabrics: silk and chenille threads or jacquard threads creating unusual fringes. The feathers applied to jackets hyper-fitted at the waist and with pronounced Neapolitan shoulders, splendidly combine with evening dresses – the day or cocktail outfits are almost inexistent – with sinuous and extremely elegant shapes.

The dress accessories, jewelled handbags, round diskshaped pendant earrings and flat sandals, give that right touch in which all is so measured and just as to give the famous Milanese fashion house a gust of young air and energy.

«Ero intrigato dall’idea del frutto proibito e di ciò che può voler dire oggigiorno. E da come l’idea di purezza e di innocenza si opponga a quella di opulenza e di decadenza», dice Raf Simons, direttore creativo di Dior. E così ne è nata una collezione intelligente, la più perfetta tra quelle che ha immaginato e realizzato lo stilista «prestato» all’alta moda – prima di arrivare nella stanza dei bottoni della maison dell’avenue Montaigne non si era mai occupato di couture. Il tutto è partito in effetti dal trittico “Il Giardino delle delizie” del pittore fiammingo Hieronymus Bosch fino ad arrivare ai quadri floreali degli impressionisti e alla scuola del puntinismo. Un lungo percorso che Raf Simons ha tracciato, grazie al suo gusto innato della purificazione e della linea austera, del dettaglio che stupisce e della grazia radicale e sensuale, attraverso una panoplia di capi davvero eccezionali. Come non menzionare quei mantelli-cappotto in cachemire dalle architetture grafiche e asimmetriche?

Oppure quegli abiti corti i cui fiori sono disegnati a mano o ricamati con minipiume? Alle ampie gonne New Look e cinte alla vita o al contrario ai volumi sottili e corti arricchiti da cotte medievali in maglia larga di metallo a uso gilet, si aggiungono tuniche dai vertiginosi spacchi laterali fermati da catenelle d’oro. Ai piedi, queste vestali della nuova eleganza portano sandali compensati fermati da lacci quasi invisibili come a perfezionare ogni silhouette a mezza strada tra il virginale e il diabolico.

«I was intrigued by the idea of the forbidden fruit and what it may mean nowadays. And also by the contrast between the idea of purity and innocence and that of opulence and decadence», says Raf Simons, Dior’s creative director.

Hence a clever collection was born, the most perfect among those which have been imagined and created by the fashion designer «lent» to high fashion – before getting to the control room of the avenue Montaigne’s maison he had never dealt with couture. In fact, all started with the Flemish painter Hieronymus Bosch’s tryptich “The Garden of Earthly Delights” until the Impressionists’ floral paintings and the school of Pointillism. Raf Simons traced a long path thanks to his innate taste for purification and austere line, an astonishing detail and radical and sensual grace, through a panoply of really exceptional garments. How is it possible not to mention the cachmere cape coats with graphic and asymmetrical architectures? Or the short dresses whose flowers are hand-drawn or embroidered with small feathers?

In addition to the wide New Look skirts and waist belts or to the thin and short volumes enriched by large Medieval chainmails used as a waistcoat, there are tunics with dizzy side vents fixed by small golden chains. At the feet, these vestals of the new elegance wear plywood sandals fixed by almost invisible shoelaces in order to make perfect every silhouette halfway between virginal and devilish.

All’ombra del Cupolone, per la prima volta dopo 17 anni, la maison Valentino ha presentato a Roma, e non come suo solito a Parigi, la sua nuova collezione di alta moda in occasione dell’inaugurazione del suo splendido flagship store in pieno centro, a Piazza di Spagna. L’ultima sfilata romana risale infatti al 2007, quando lo stesso Valentino Garavani disse addio alla Capitale per sfilare a Parigi. La nuova collezione disegnata da Maria Grazia Chiuri e Pier Paolo Piccioli è un tributo a Roma, alla sua bellezza e alla sua storia, con toghe e minidress gladiator ispirati all’Impero Romano, le lunghe cappe asimmetriche a scoprire una spalla, dedicate a quelle regali delle nobildonne protagoniste dei fasti e degli scandali principeschi e papali. Il tutto in un elegante mixage di ricordi pagani e religiosi con colori predominanti il nero, gotico e intenso, l’oro regale e sontuoso, il rosso dei principi e il verde scuro dei cavalieri. I due stilisti hanno voluto raccontare la loro Roma, dalla loro personalissima prospettiva, la Roma del cinema, la Roma dei Papi, la Roma degli Imperatori e dei condottieri, in una lunga e avvincente cavalcata lungo la storia di una Città Eterna per definizione, in cui, però, tutto scorre, o “panta rei” come sosteneva il filosofo, proprio come il biondo Tevere che la attraversa. Come sostengono, infatti, Chiuri e Piccioli, tutto a Roma sembra restar sempre uguale, invece, come ha sempre dimostrato nei secoli, la Capitale è più che mai proiettata verso il futuro, oggi come ieri.

In the shade of Cupolone, for the first time after 17 years, the maison Valentino presented in Rome, and not in Paris as usual, its new high fashion collection on the occasion of the opening of its wonderful flagship store in the heart of Rome, in Piazza di Spagna. The last Roman fashion show in fact dates back to 2007, when Valentino Garavani himself said goodbye to Rome for Paris. The new collection designed

by Maria Grazia Chiuri and Pier Paolo Piccioli is a tribute to Rome, to its beauty and history, with togas and gladiator mini dresses inspired to the Roman Empire, the long asymmetric capes exposing one shoulder, dedicated to the regal togas of the noblewomen who were the protagonists of princely and papal splendours and scandals. All this in an elegant mix of pagan and religious memories using as predominant colours the gothic and intense black, the regal and sumptuous gold, the red of princes and the dark green of knights. The two fashion designers wanted to tell their Rome, from their own personal perspective, the Rome of the cinema, the Rome of the Popes, the Rome of the Emperors and of the condottieri, in a long and engaging ride through the history of the Eternal City par excellance, where, however, everything flows, or“panta rei”as the philosopher affirmed, just as the blond Tiber that passes through it. As, in fact, Chiuri and Piccioli maintain, everything in Rome seems to remain always the same, but, as it has always proved over the centuries, Rome is more than ever projected towards the future, today as yesterday.

Flower power. Abituati alla donna conquistatrice e un tantino aggressiva veicolata ormai da diversi anni, la nuova silhouette voluta da Donatella Versace per l’Atelier Versace stupisce un po’. Graziose figlie dei fiori dalle coroncine sottili che circondano fronti e capelli lasciati al vento: non bisogna però lasciarsi completamente fuorviare, i codici della casa sono comunque presenti quando si guardano i décolleté vertiginosi – che possono trovarsi davanti o denudare completamente la schiena – e gli stivali rock anni Settanta con tanto di zeppa portati ai piedi. Se pure la gamma dei colori si fa più tenue, gli abiti, loro, sono minuziosamente realizzati. Per alcuni ci sono voluti più di 600 ore di lavoro!

Quali per esempio? Settimane e settimane di paziente confezione sono state necessarie per dar vita al modello che ha impiegato dieci strati di leggero chiffon sfrangiato a mano e che, asimmetrici, avviluppano la donna che li porta.

Tralci di fiori si inerpicano per le mise a sirena o a tunica dove i corsetti con intrecci a canestro creano un impalpabile gioco sempre e comunque, noblesse oblige, assolutamente sexy.

Tulle e mussolina, sete e pizzi, cristalli di Swarovski e maglie metalliche: tutto è messo in campo per questa straordinaria hippy di lusso del XXI° secolo.

Flower power. Accustomed to the conquering and a bit aggressive woman conveyed for several years now, the new silhouette designed by Donatella Versace for Atelier Versace is a bit surprising/astonishing. Pretty flower children wearing thin coronets surrounding foreheads and windblown hair: but one must not let oneself be completely misled, the codes of the fashion house are still in vertiginous necklines – which can be in front or totally backless – and in the ‘70s rock boots complete with wedged heels. Even though the range of colours becomes softer, dresses are painstakingly made.

Some of them required over 600 working hours! An example?

Numerous weeks of patient tailoring have been necessary to give life to the pattern that employed ten layers of light hand frayed chiffon which, being asymmetrical, wraps up the woman wearing them. Flowers shoots climb up on siren and tunic outfits, where corsets with basket weavings create an impalpable play which is always and anyway, noblesse oblige, absolutely sexy. Tulle and muslin, silks and laces, Swarovski crystals and ring meshes: all is deployed for this 21st century luxury hippy.
