Il grande sipario sull’Expo Milano 2015, l’Esposizione Universale che l’Italia ospita dal 1 maggio al 31 ottobre 2015, si è alzato, dopo aver tenuto il mondo intero col fiato sospeso per lunghi mesi. I numeri, d’altronde, sono da capogiro: l’area espositiva sarà di 1,1 milioni di metri quadri, parteciperanno più di 140 Paesi e Organizzazioni internazionali e sono attesi ben oltre 20 milioni di visitatori. Expo Milano 2015 offrirà la possibilità di conoscere e assaggiare i migliori piatti del mondo e scoprire le eccellenze della tradizione agroalimentare e gastronomica di ogni Paese.

Inoltre, per tutta la durata della manifestazione, Milano sarà teatro di straordinari eventi oltre che di arte, musica, convegni, soprattutto di moda, come nel caso dei fashion show, molto attesi, di Giorgio Armani e della Cina. Perchè Milano è e resta la Capitale mondiale della moda, ma, in questa occasione in cui è il food il vero grande protagonista, vestirà un “dress code” molto serio e impegnato. Bando alle frivolezze: in sei mesi di questa eccezionale vetrina mondiale i Paesi partecipanti saranno impegnati a mostrare il meglio delle proprie tecnologie per dare una risposta concreta a un’esigenza vitale: riuscire a garantire cibo sano, sicuro e sufficiente per tutti i popoli, nel rispetto dell’ambiente. Milioni di visitatori invaderanno pacificamente il nostro Paese in occasione dell’evento internazionale più importante mai tenutosi in Italia, un evento che ci si augura sia una straordinaria occasione e piattaforma di confronto di idee e soluzioni sul tema dell’alimentazione per promuovere tutte le innovazioni possibili per un futuro autenticamente sostenibile. Per chi? Più che per i visitatori, paradossalmente, l’Expo 2015 è per chi non ci sarà nonostante ne sia il protagonista. Per chi arriverà in Italia non su jet e mezzi convenzionali di trasporto, ma trascinati dalle onde del mare, su barconi, in viaggi della speranza, per dare a se stessi e alla propria famiglia un futuro migliore. L’Expo Milano 2015 è per loro. È arte, moda e cultura messa a disposizione di chi non ha che se stesso su cui contare. Di chi va via con la morte nel cuore dal proprio Paese alla ricerca di un po’ di fortuna e chi se non noi italiani, “popolo di santi, poeti, navigatori ed emigranti” può capire la disperazione mista a speranza di questa povera gente? La cultura di cui noi siamo portatori indiscussi, anche grazie alle tantissime invasioni di popoli che nei secoli hanno conquistato le nostre terre, dai saraceni agli aragonesi ai turchi, longobardi, unni, normanni, franchi... la cui cultura si è innestata sulla nostra, generandone, proprio come l’innesto negli alberi, nuovi frutti, creando, grazie all’alterità e alla bellezza della diversità, valore universale da difendere a tutti i costi dalla globalizzazione imperante, nuovi modus vivendi e forme e movimenti culturali sempre più arditi e unici che hanno cambiato la storia dell’arte di tutto il mondo. Lo stesso Karl Lagerfeld, d’altronde, ripete spesso che “non mi piace la bellezza di serie, non c’è bellezza senza qualche stranezza e diversità”. Per questo l’Expo Milano 2015, che si tiene nella Capitale del Prêt-à-Porter, ma anche nella città di Leonardo Da Vinci, Alessandro Manzoni e di quel grande illuminista che fu Cesare Beccaria, autore del celebre “Dei Delitti e delle pene”, primo saggio mondiale in assoluto contro la pena di morte, noi Paese che per prima l’abbiamo abolita.

Ricordiamo anche che il 70% del patrimonio artistico mondiale si trova in Italia.

Un dato che sarebbe bene tenere sempre presente anche perché è il frutto della nostra capacità di integrare culture diverse creando, grazie a queste sinergie, un sapere e una bellezza del tutto nuova. Perché come giustamente sosteneva Pablo Picasso, non si può giudicare sbagliato ciò che non si conosce perché si perde un’occasione d’oro per spalancare le porte su un nuovo magico Stargate, una porta sulle stelle, su una galassia meravigliosa a noi sconosciuta. Non esiste, dunque, città migliore per ospitare questo straordinario evento perché la moda stessa della Milano da bere è espressione della bellezza della diversità, con tutte quelle collezioni disegnate da tantissimi stilisti stranieri, qui liberissimi di esprimere come credono la loro cultura perché nessun Paese meglio dell’Italia sa bene quanto essere etnocentrici sia l’eutanasia di un popolo. La vera intelligenza è trovare il simile nel dissimile perché un essere umano è una creatura estetica oltre che etica e la saggezza italiana è sempre stata quella di saper stare con la differenza senza volerla eliminare. Anzi, considerandola sempre nuova linfa. Come scriveva Marcel Proust “il vero viaggio di scoperta non consiste nel trovare nuovi territori, ma nel possedere altri occhi, vedere l’universo attraverso gli occhi di un altro, di centinaia d’altri: di osservare il centinaio di universi che ciascuno di loro osserva, che ciascuno di loro è”. Viva dunque la diversità, viva l’accoglienza dell’alterità e viva Milano con il suo straordinario Expo 2015.

After forcing the world to hold its breath for many months, the curtains of Expo Milano 2015 have been lifted so that this Italian exhibition can finally take place between the 1st May and the 31st October 2015. After all, its numbers are staggering: the exhibition area will be 1.1 million square metres, more than 140 countries and International Organisations will take part and predictions mention over 20 million visitors. Expo Milano 2015 will offer the possibility to try and taste the world’s best dishes and find out about the farm foods and culinary traditions from every country. In addition, throughout the length of this exhibition, Milan will be hosting some other extraordinary events in arts, music, current issues and above all fashion. Amongst the most awaited shows are Giorgio Armani’s and those from China. Milan is and will remain the world fashion capital and in this particular occasion, when food is the true protagonist, it will have a more serious and reserved dress code. Frills are banned: in this exceptional six months long world platform, all participating countries will be keen to show their best technological advancements and propose some tangible solutions to a very important issue. Healthy and sufficient food supplies must be guaranteed to all peoples in a context of respect for the planet. Millions of visitors will peacefully invade our country to attend the most important international event to ever take place in Italy. One can hope that this will be an extraordinary chance and a platform where people with solutions and ideas on nutrition can confront each other and new proposals on a more sustainable future can be put forward. Whom for? Paradoxically, Expo 2015 is not about its visitors, because its real protagonists will not be there. It is not about those who will jet to Italy or even come via more traditional means of transport. Expo 2015 is dedicated to those who are desperate but hopeful and decide to risk it all on some miserable boat and sail on a rough sea to give themselves and their family a better future. Expo Milano 2015 is for them. It is all about fashion and culture in the service of those who can only count on themselves. These are the people who leave their own country with death in their hearts, because they are looking for some kind of luck. Who better than the Italians, a community of saints, poets, sailors and migrants, can understand the mixture of desperation and hope that afflicts these poor people? Because of the many historical invasions our land suffered, we are the best examples of what the combination of different cultures leads to. Throughout the centuries, the people from Arabia, Aragon, Turkey, Longobardia, Siberia and Gallia conquered our land. Their culture impregnated ours and just like in a plant graft, it generated new fruits, as well as contrast but also beauty in diversity. The values of new ways of living, as well as those of different and increasingly courageous cultural movements must be defended from the threat of globalisation, for they are historically responsible for new artistic developments throughout the world.

Karl Lagerfeld himself has often stated “I don’t like serial beauty. There is no beauty without eccentricity and diversity”. This is why Expo Milano 2015 takes place in the Prêt-à-Porter capital, which is also the city of Leonardo Da Vinci, Alessandro Manzoni and of Cesare Beccaria, one of the greatest exponents of the Enlightenment movement, as well as author of “On Crimes and Punishments”. This was the first essay in the world to take a stand against the death penalty, which our country was also first in abolishing.

It is important to remember that 70% of the world artistic heritage is located in Italy.

This demonstrates how our capacity to integrate different cultures was also the cause behind the advent of brand new knowledge and innovative beauty. As Pablo Picasso said, one cannot judge as erroneous that which one does not know, because it would jeopardise a marvellous opportunity to open a portal to a new and magical Stargate and a marvellous galaxy that is yet unknown to us. Ultimately, there is no better place for hosting this extraordinary event, because the fashion of ‘Cocktail-crowd Milan’ is itself an expression of beauty in diversity. For a moment, let’s just think of the many foreign fashion designers who here are extremely free to express their own culture in their own way. No other country knows better than Italy that ethnocentrism can only bring about the euthanasia of peoples. True intelligence finds common grounds in diversity because humans are not simply ethical but also aesthetic beings. Italian wisdom was always able to co-exist with diversity without attempting to destroy it. On the contrary, it always saw it as some kind of new lymph. As Marcel Proust wrote “The only true voyage of discovery, the only fountain of Eternal Youth, would be not to visit strange lands but to possess other eyes, to behold the universe through the eyes of another, of a hundred others, to behold the hundred universes that each of them beholds, that each of them is”. Long live diversity then, as well as the acceptance of that which is different, and long live Milan and its extraordinary Expo 2015.

La Cité de la dentelle et de la mode di Calais dedica al grande genio della moda Cristòbal Balenciaga una meravigliosa retrospettiva dal titolo “Balenciaga, magicien de la dentelle” in calendario dal 18 aprile al prossimo 31 agosto 2015. Particolarità della mostra è il focus sull’uso del pizzo che lo stilista tanto amò e usò per creare abiti da favola. E non è un caso che la mostra si tenga proprio a Calais che è una delle capitali mondiali della produzione di questo incantevole tessuto così amato da Balenciaga al punto da riuscire a scolpirlo e a renderlo il grande protagonista di abiti dall’allure senza tempo. Pura classe e charme. Tagli perfetti, gusto teatrale per un design sempre iperbolico e aereo, che sembrava, ieri come oggi, sempre sfidare la legge di gravità. In mostra sontuose creazioni ottenute mixando l’amato pizzo anche con seta, taffetà e tulle. Nel 1937 la sua prima collezione è dedicata al Rinascimento spagnolo e, quindi, non può che essere il pizzo il tessuto dominante per rendere bene il mood della collezione. Da allora è stato amore assoluto tra i due, fino alla fine. Un amore appassionato che ha conquistato fashion icon internazionali del calibro di Marlene Dietrich, Ingrid Bergman, Grace Kelly, Lauren Bacall, Jackie Kennedy, Ava Gardner ed Helena Rubinstein. / Calais, the city of fashion and lace dedicates a wonderful retrospective to the great fashion genius Cristòbal Balenciaga. Called “Balenciaga, the magician of lace”, the exhibition will be opened from the 18th April to the 31st August 2015. It is mainly focussed on the use of lace, a fabric that this designer loved so much and employed to make many fairy tale outfits. It is not a case that this exhibition is taking place exactly in Calais, because this city is one of the biggest producers of this charming fabric, which Balenciaga loved so much that he managed to work it into the main protagonist of most of his timeless magnetic creations, with both class and charm. His outfits were perfectly cut and had such a theatrical, hyperbolic and airy nature, that today as yesterday, they can still be said to challenge the law of gravity. On display in Calais are many sumptuous creations which were obtained by mixing this beloved lace with silk, taffeta and tulle. In 1937, his first collection was dedicated to the Spanish Renaissance and nothing else but lace could have better delivered it in its rightful mood. From then on, it was love at first sight between the two. This passionate love story conquered many international fashion icons, like Marlene Dietrich, Ingrid Bergman, Grace Kelly, Lauren Bacall, Jackie Kennedy, Ava Gardner and Helena Rubinstein.

Lei e la figlia Lavinia costituiscono da sempre una delle coppie più belle e riuscite del fashion system internazionale. Dopo aver iniziato a lavorare a soli 14 anni come costumista per l’“English National Youth Theatre”, il fashion designer britannico, tra i più eclettici, sorprendenti e trasgressivi della scena fashion mondiale, si è diplomato nel 2003 come disegnatore di moda alla prestigiosa Central Saint Martins, fucina di tanti talenti, come Stella McCartney. Per il suo final work all’accademia di moda londinese utilizzò dei palloncini per evidenziare il design balloon delle sue creazioni (una tecnica che diventerà la sua cifra stilistica, al punto da averla spesso riutilizzata in questi anni di carriera). La trovata attirò l’attenzione del famoso magazine “Dazed & Confused” che utilizzò i suoi modelli per una copertina. Una pubblicità davvero grandiosa e il suo primo colpo andato a segno, anche se il suo vero debutto risale alla “Alternative Fashion Week” nel club londinese Kashpoint. Anche qui la dea fortuna non fu cieca nei suoi confronti e fu notato dai talent scout di Fashion East che lo invitarono nel 2005 a partecipare ad una loro sfilata collettiva dove fu lui solo ad emergere. Infatti, questo defilè si rivelò un grosso successo personale per Gareth Pugh perché gli aprì molte porte, permettendogli, grazie alla sua fama in continua ascesa, dapprima nel mondo underground e poi in quello più patinato dei grandi magazine sempre a caccia di new talents, di sfilare per la prima volta da solo a Londra nel 2006 durante la London fashion week, dove, ormai, è di casa. Le sue sfilate, sono “show” più che “fashion show”, nel senso letterale del termine, ossia autentici spettacoli in cui una notevole artigianalità combinata a una eccelsa sartorialità si combinano, oltre che all’inventiva e al genio ad un pizzico di sana follia che rende il tutto sempre molto teatrale e sopra le righe. Drammatico, tribale, eccessivo, primordiale e primitivo. Ogni suo capo racconta una storia a sé ed è unico nel suo genere perché è lo stesso designer ad essere unico, essendosi creato una nicchia stilistica che è sua e sua sola.

Il Palazzo delle Esposizioni di Roma presenta fino al 13 settembre 2015 la mostra “David LaChapelle, dopo il Diluvio” a cura di Gianni Mercurio. La rassegna è una delle più vaste retrospettive dedicata al grande artista e fotografo americano. Saranno esposte oltre 100 opere di cui alcune totalmente inedite, altre presentate per la prima volta in un museo e molte di grande formato (anche di sette metri per due). La mostra è concentrata sui lavori realizzati dall’artista dal 2006, anno di produzione della monumentale serie intitolata “The Deluge”, che segna un punto di svolta per l’artista. Con la realizzazione di “The Deluge” infatti, ispirato al grande affresco michelangiolesco della Cappella Sistina, LaChapelle torna a concepire un lavoro con l’unico scopo di esporlo in una galleria d’arte o in un museo, opere non commissionate e non destinate alle pagine di una rivista di moda o a una campagna pubblicitaria. Per permettere al pubblico di conoscere le “origini” del lavoro di LaChapelle degli anni precedenti a “The Deluge”, verranno esposte anche delle opere tra le più conosciute e amate dal pubblico, quelle che lo hanno reso famoso in tutto il mondo, prodotte nel decennio a cavallo tra il 1995 e il 2005, con ritratti surrealisti di celebrità del mondo della musica, della moda e del cinema.

DOPO IL DILUVIO. AFTER THE DELUGE.

From April 30th until September 13th Palazzo delle Esposizioni in Rome will host the exhibition “David LaChapelle, After the Deluge” curated by Gianni Mercurio. The exhibition is one of the most important retrospective dedicated to the great American artist and photographer. On display there will be more than 100 works of which some are presented for the first time in a museum and other are big size works. The exhibition will focus on the works realized by the artist starting from 2006, when he produces the monumental series titled “The Deluge”, which leads to a meaningful turning point in the artistic path of David LaChapelle. Through the realization of “The Deluge”, modeled after Michelangelo’s impressive fresco in the Sistine Chapel, the artist returns to conceiving works with the unique purpose to exhibit in art galleries and in museums. To allow the public to know the “origins” of LaChapelle work before “The Deluge”, the exhibition will also include a selection of some of the most renowned and loved photos that made him famous, realized during the decade between 1995 and 2005. A complete retrospective that will gather all the surrealistic portraits of celebrities, from music to fashion and movies.

Oltre 300.000 i visitatori registrati quest’anno al Salone del Mobile, giunto alla sua 54esima edizione. La manifestazione milanese ha portato in alto il nome dell’artigianato Made in Italy, attirando compratori anche dal Medio Oriente. La storia d’amore tra arte e design si consolida nella realizzazione di pezzi esteticamente perfetti ma allo stesso tempo funzionali.

Le aziende leader nell’arredamento hanno interpretato il loro concetto di abitare con proposte diversificate ma legate tuttavia da un unico trait d’union: il rimando a diverse epoche del Novecento e l’influenza della cultura asiatica e africana.

Grande protagonista di questa edizione è stata anche l’illuminazione. In occasione del 2015, l’Anno Internazionale della Luce, sono stati presentati sfavillanti impianti led che, senza rinunciare ad uno straordinario effetto scenografico, riducono drasticamente i costi. Immancabili le Home collection dei grandi nomi della moda italiani.

The number of recorded visitors at this year’s 54th Salone del Mobile is over 300,000. This Milan Furniture Trade Show raised the profile of Italian craftsmanship and attracted buyers from as far as the Middle East. The love history between art and design was strengthened through the making of aesthetically perfect objects that at the same time are also functional. Dopo Parigi il diluvio? Sicuramente, dato che ormai i giochi sono fatti e le macro tendenze globali sono già state delineate da Milano, Londra e New York. Il prestigio di essere l’ultima fashion week che sfila, nonché la più attraente per il suo innegabile charme e i grandi nomi in calendario, viene un po’ smorzato dal fatto che ormai i giochi sono fatti e i trend ben definiti, a meno di non tirare fuori dal cilindro qualcosa di strepitoso, come farebbe un mago. Le collezioni della London fashion week di quest’anno, forse esagerando un po’, sono davvero uscite fuori dai soliti canoni dello stile e dell’eleganza imponendo una tendenza bon ton che ammalia e seduce, dopo tanta trasgressione, suscitando stupore per la raffinata singolarità di applicazioni e dècor di colori diversi, mai ton sur ton, per creare contrasti vibranti, anche con patterns diverse dallo spessore macro e micro, mai scontato. Tutto ciò che è fatto industrialmente, come con sempre più moderni telai e macchinari, hanno spinto i più eclettici fashion designer ad andare verso un nuovo effettivamente definibile tale, dando un forte scossone allo stile british che, pur rimanendo di tendenza, ha saputo staccarsi dalla sua classica cifra stilistica. In passerella sono stati proposti i classici colori dell’inverno 2015-16 che incalza e che trovano in tantissime nuance di grigio il loro simbolo top, sia in tinta unita che proposto en combine con diversi inserti di contrasto, soprattutto in pelle. Notevoli anche, sempre per quanto riguarda la palette di colori, il rosa, l’arancio, il giallo, il verde e una variante di deep blue che talvolta declina nel più luminoso turchese. Queste le grandi tendenze della London Fashion Week, prevalenti in quasi tutti i fashion show presentati, un comune denominatore per il prossimo inverno. Altra tendenza non trascurabile è il ritorno a un certo stile gotico ed elisabettiano mixato con grande stile con l’austerity del vittorianesimo e a un neoclassicismo romantico, il che rende la moda di questa fashion week quasi estrapolata dai libri di storia, sebbene tutto sia assolutamente moderno e cutting edge, oltre che portabile e comfy. / This year’s collections at London Fashion Week have maybe gone a little too far and undoubtedly proposed something unusual in terms of style and elegance. After much transgression, the new approach is one that aims at charming and seducing, as well as surprising with some very fine and original applique and decor effects of various colours.

Thanks to the use of a varied range of both macro and micro patterns, these create some unusually vibrant contrasts. The increasing use of industrial machine-woven fabrics obviously motivated the most versatile fashion designers to experiment with novelty. For once this can be defined seriously original and brand new. So the British style has definitely been shaken and although it may remain trendy, it clearly moved out of its traditional schemes. For the forthcoming winter season 2015-16, the runway’s proposals centred on the colour gray in a variety of different nuances. Whether solid or combined with contrasting inserts that were mostly made in leather, gray is the season’s favourite solution. Also included in the choice of colours was some outstanding pink, as well as orange, yellow, green and a variant of deep blue that at times morphs into the brightest turquoise. These London Fashion Week’s trends were more or less shared by all featured shows and are the common denominator for the next winter. Yet another significant trend is surely the return of some styles from the past, like the interesting mixture of Gothic and Elizabethan fashion. Mixed with Victorian prudishness and romantic Neoclassicism, it all turned this week into some kind of History show. Nevertheless, everything was at the same time modern and cutting edge, as well as easy-to-wear and comfy.

Fall Winter 2015-16 Sfilando per prima, New York ha la bellezza di essere quasi una tabula rasa per il fashion system e gli addetti ai lavori curiosi di scoprire le prime tendenze della stagione che verrà. In effetti è qui che, a livello embrionale, prima che parta la fashion week di Londra e, poi, a seguire, quelle di Milano e Parigi, si notano quali saranno le macro tendenze mondiali che saranno poi riprese dalle altre settimane della moda. Come prescindere il prossimo inverno dal trend della pelliccia e dei colori vivaci? Qui è dove sorge il sole della moda che sarà, è l’Orior, mentre Parigi, che sfila per ultima, è laddove il sole tramonta, l’Occido. Tra l’alba e il tramonto, naturalmente, vi è poi di mezzo tutta una giornata di cui sicuramente Milano rappresenta il Mezzogiorno. Molti trend newyorkesi troveranno conferma globale nelle altre fashion week, altri, invece, resteranno legati all’hic et nunc del momento, al mood di una nazione che in quel momento desidera quei tagli e quei colori perché appartengono al loro patrimonio culturale e non li baratterebbero con nessuna tendenza. / First in showcasing, New York has the gift of being some sort of a blank canvas in the fashion system and insiders are always curious to find out what the new trends will be. These belong to the passing mood of a nation that in that particular moment wants those shapes and colours, for they belong to its cultural heritage and would not exchange them for any alternative.
